go offfff @its-murderous-business: #ok the values thing is true in theory but I went to a leadership conference in January#and one of the things we did was narrow down our top 3 core values and go around and discuss them#and ngl the other people picked ones I found buck-fucking-wild#my top 3 were justice knowledge and love#we were all given the same choices to choose from btw#The majority of people had things like family spirituality tradition inner peace etc#all things that made their lives better. not society better. and on an intellectual level I get it. we aren’t all going to be the same#but on a psychological/emotional level… (I know this isn’t true don’t hold me to this) it felt like what was wrong with society#if people value their own inner peace over justice they will turn a blind eye towards injustice that disturbs their inner peace#if you value family over love… you’ll end up with a lot of loveless family members#if you value tradition over knowledge you will live in ignorance forever#so often people aren’t working with the same values. people aren’t working with my same values anyway#and this was a leadership retreat to learn how to make structural change!!! what would that look like in the general population idek

assume the other person has different information, not different values

If you run into a place where you have different values, find a bigger value that is the same between both of you *2.5: if that doesn't work, you are never going to have a productive conversation anyway, so live your life and be happy

don't expect to see the person change their mind in front of you—brains are made of physical, organic meat and the new neuron connections will need time to grow in. Don't be disappointed if they end the conversation with "Well I still think [opinion]!" That is part of social customs, it's normal and you still probably did something helpful

The way in which I have just butchered some html to get what I wanted done has now forever changed my problem solving lexicon.

From now on I will not be saying "have you tried switching it to wumbo?" I will instead be saying "see if you can have it set splank to V."

Because "set splank to V" was an arbitrary and meaningless test variable that actually worked first try as I repurposed some dumb html link properties to work on my CYOA novel. Is there a better way to let a reader set a variable in text for harlowe without changing the page? Probably. Did click set work? Yes. I cannot believe how many days it took me to figure this out.

Queer spaces are not necessarily Safer Spaces.

But even so, Queer doesn't mean "not Cis".

Gay cis men are queer. Bi/Pan/Omni cis men are queer. Ace and Demi cis men are queer.

And A also stands for Allies, without whom we would, collectively, be monumentally screwed by society at large, and Q also stands for Questioning, which frankly all of us are at any given time, because sexuality, gender, and other aspects of identity are subject to change as we grow in being, body, and awareness.

So maybe don't boot everyone to the curb for being imperfectly queer.

that will require nonbinary people who don't ""look nonbinary"" because they look too masculine to out themselves in order to receive help

it will also alienate transfems & trans people who were AMAB who haven't realized they're trans yet from spaces that could provide them a safe place to explore gender & sexuality and be introduced to the idea of being trans

trans people are eventually going to get uncomfortable with your hatred for cis men, because people who were AMAB are gonna wonder if you secretly hate them for being "actually men" and trans mascs are gonna wonder if you hate them for being men at all

people attracted to cis men are going to feel uncomfortable when they try and bring up their love for men including cis men or bring their cis boyfriends/partners/friends to your spaces

there are cis queer men & queer men who blur the lines between cis and trans and they have just as much a right to queer spaces as you do

^ intersex men also exist including intersex cis men

there is never going to be a group of people who it is alright to blindly hate just because of circumstances of their birth or identity and every time you try you are going to end up hurting people. embrace compassion and nuance
