How would you interpret a vampire au?

Hmm, interesting. I’m not really sure.

Getting the obvious out the way, Mirabel, Agustín and Félix (alongside the rest of the town) wouldn’t be vampires. They would be completely normal humans. The rest of the Madrigals would be the vampires because it makes sense.

I’d have Alma bitten, pre her meeting Pedro, and it was one of her first outings when she met him. She initially didn’t tell him, convinced she’d be killed, but she did when their relationship became more serious and was surprised to find that he fully accepted her.

I wouldn’t do any of the if you get bitten you become a vampire. If you get bitten, you die. Provides a good source of angst and challenge.

…And that’s kind of it.

The rest would just continue on as normal as seen in the film.

The Madrigals secretly hiding their identities, even from Mirabel. The decision was made (after they worked out she obviously wasn’t a vampire) not to tell her, at Julieta’s request - not wanting Mirabel to feel even more singled out than she already did without a gift.

When she finds Bruno, she discovers the truth. He wasn’t making much effort to hide it in the walls. She confronted him and he admitted that it wasn’t just him, the entire family were vampires. Mirabel tabled the thought, much too focused on saving the miracle. Though, she does more very cautiously around her family afterwards.

She uses her new knowledge to bait Isabela during their argument, and then again tries to confront Abuela with it later on. Going as far as to call her grandmother a monster - though more in the regard that she’s breaking their family, than actually being a vampire, but it hurts all the same.

The truth is made known to the town during the rebuild and slowly people become accepting of the idea. Miracle comes back and you know how it goes.

Has??? Anyone seen Wolf Children. Cause that’s basically what this is. Pedro lives AU, bros struggling but he gets by. Slightly modern AU, more like??? The 70s or 80s. Perhaps 90s
