Xiao sets him free after inspecting the rest of the house and finding it abandoned- the person who caged Aether likely knew Xiao was coming and left in a hurry.

Xiao takes Aether to his home as to fix up his leg, though it's clear the leg will need physical therapy.

Aether, though distrusting at first- quickly grows attached to Xiao and even after they part ways Aether finds himself consistently going back to Xiao's place as to take up his entire couch like a lap dog.

Xiao never wants to get close to anyone as he believes himself to be dangerous. But Aether is persistent.

Xiao grows to be very protective over Aether, especially when Aether gets caught in another trap. It's clear to Xiao that Aether was still very new to being a Werewolf, so he obviously has to teach him to be cautious in a world like this.

Aether is not at all new to being a werewolf, he's just curious and has no sense of caution. It's a wonder he's survived this long.
