#ventus and roxas

hi please consider after the initial awkwardness of “hmm i already have identity issues and now there’s this guy who looks just like me?” roxas and ventus face and they become friends. roxas finds out about Ven’s “just put an end to me” attempt at self sacrifice….and becomes fiercely protective of ven in a way. whenever ventus makes a self deprecating comment or brings himself down for anything related to the Xblade/Vanitas/events of BBS roxas is right there with a scowl on his face and “say five nice things about yourself right now or so fucking help me”

roxas already fought so hard for his and xions rights to exist. he’ll fight for ven’s, too, even if the one saying ventus’ existence is flawed is ventus himself.

In the actor au, were bbs and days filmed at roughly around the same time? If so, did axel, aqua, and terra get up to any shenanigans passing Ventus/Roxas around?

i’m thinking abt potential Ventus and Roxas dynamics and i keep thinking back to the idea that. like their Main Difference as characters, a part of them that really makes them almost-foils of each other despite their many personality-similarities is just. the fact that Ventus is so willing to sacrifice himself through dramatic acts of self-destruction (asking terra and aqua to kill him so the Xblade would never be forged, asking the KHUX cast to let him die to destroy Darkness) while Roxas wants so badly to live and have his friends live that he will fight for it. Roxas does not want to sacrifice his life because he sees hope despite all the crap he’s suffered through. he believes that he can try to save people, that if he goes against the organization AND returning to Sora, he can maybe bring Xion back. Ventus sees hope in a different light. That he can only bring hope to his friends with the end of his life, that maybe they can live on without him if he makes one final sacrifice. And in KHUX, he believes this sacrifice will bring him redemption. An eye for an eye, as they say, and if Strelitzia has been taken by Darkness, Ventus can even the score by taking out Darkness AND himself. Roxas is actually just as sweet, innocent, and caring as Ventus is, but he would be more than willing to fight Darkness head on to avenge Strelitzia’s death if their roles were reversed. Ventus would be more willing to join with Sora with less of a fight, if he was told it was for the greater good.

all this to say. Ventus has a very “I’ll sacrifice myself for the good of my friends” mindset and Roxas has a very “I’ll fight to defend my friends” mindset. And when Ventus remembers his past and believes he has to sacrifice himself once more to make up for it, I want Roxas to grab him by the shoulders, look him dead in the eyes, and tell him “No. You either strive to survive for repentance, or I will fight to protect us both.”

This was done before seeing Wish, but I was already in love with the reprise of This Wish. Seeing the scenario play out in the movie was very emotional.

At the time, I visualize the keyblade master’s wish or prayer in his hour of need miraculously answered across the realities. Unfortunately I forgot Riku was supposed be in Unreality as well.
