I've finally found the piece of media that is going to make me go feral with the need to fix it fic. I've put in my AO3 account request and now I wait.

Venus Envy just has so much to answer for. It has its problematic moments in its first 600 pages / 3 years but is generally at least sane... And then the last 300 pages hit... 300 pages take take 11 years... The very final scene of the comic is 26 pages long and it goes on for literally 5 years.

And something *breaks* in that last third. The number of lost and dropped plot threads are so many... The final boss is not in any way the one the story was building up or even *really* hinting at... I feel like I'm going insane. I probably just need to write down the entire plot and try to connect the narrative tissue on plot threads finished and dropped.

Worst part is I can't join a community that talks about this thing, because it's a 2001 Trans Webcomic that has been orphaned for a decade or more.

i dont agree with every point in this essay but this kind of sums up why i like venus envy more than rain. the characters feel very real, if not just as awful as the rain webcomic characters. it just hits harder. i love rain webcomic but i do have quite a bit to say about it

yes! currently reading venus envy by rita mae brown and i definitely recommend it!!

rita mae brown is the author of rubyfruit jungle, which is kind of hailed as the first lesbian novel in popular history and is a cornerstone for any lesbian who wants to know her history/ read her dyke classics

however, having read rubyfruit, while it’s great, it’s also quite fucking weird, and very sexual , so i was a bit hesitant to read venus envy

however! venus envy for me, surpasses rubyfruit in everything but name, it’s so so good, i highly recommend it, and if you’re trying to get into lesbian ‘classics’ i highly recommend!! so so good i think everyone should read!

it’s about a woman who, upon told she is dying, writes confessional letters to everyone important in her life, where she tells them exactly what she thinks of them and more importantly, that she’s gay.

only actually, she isn’t dying, and so she wakes up the next morning full of life, and suddenly she has to deal with the aftermath of confessing the truth…
