This is how innocent Catalan protestors are treated by Spanish police. Please, help us share it, for most media will not talk about it.

“Kill her, kill her!”: one of the imprisoned protesters reports aggressions inside the police van and fake proofs.

Xènia, 22 years old, was coming back from the demonstration on general strike day [October 18th 2019] with a friend when a group of policemen assaulted her in Barcelona city center. The judge has decreeted prison without bail for her and 5 more protestors for “attempting against authority”, “public disorders” and “damages”. They are imprisoned in Wad-ras jail. Her family has been able to visit her and has talked to this newspaper.

It was Friday at 7 in the evening. Seeing the mood was starting to get more angry at the demonstration, Xènia and her friend decided to leave. When they were walking down Jonqueres street, 5 vans of Spanish police showed up, driving at a very high speed. The officers opened the doors and ran to arrest protestors. Among the crowd, there were Xènia and her friend. Xènia’s mother explains “They got scared and started running. My daughter tripped and fell to the floor. Quickly, three policemen jumped to her. Her friend got hit by a policeman’s baton and opened her eyebrow. But she could escape. My daughter could not: they dragged her to the police van and, before putting her inside the van, they punched her repeatedly.”

Xènia has explained to her mother that, once inside the van, the policemen continued to beat her while they shouted “kill her! kill her!”. They quickly took her to the Via Laietana police headquarters. There, too, she was once again threatened and intimidated. As her mother explains, “they [the policemen] stood in front of her and said ‘you don’t have the bollocks anymore?’. Then they put her facing the wall. Later, another girl was taken there and my daughter saw how they threatened her placing a cutter in her throat”.

From Via Laietana she was talen to la Verneda; and from there, to the trials in Ciutat de la Justícia so the judge could take her declaration. During this trip, the policemen said: “Damn, you’re carrying so many balls in your bag”. Xènia’s mother explains: “My daughter was gobsmacked, of course, and answered: ‘What are you saying?’ And the policeman asked her ‘What did you plan to do with all these balls?’”. When they arrived to the trial she understood.

The police had presented as a proof of subversive objects against her a petanque ball [petanque is a popular game, similar to bowling but much smaller], glass bullets and nails. “But they’re so incompetent that the exact same petanque ball, with the same number, has appeared as an inculpatory proof in the bag of all the 6 arrested protestors”, explains her mother. Furthermore, the judge, before taking the arrested’s declaration, had already communicated to her lawyers that she would sentence them to jail without bail.

Today [October 20th 2019], Xènia has been allowed to receive the first visit from her family, who say see her strong “but at the same time indignant, and wants people to know what the police are doing to her and the other arrested protestors”. Now she focuses all her efforts in next week’s visit, in which her lawyer will ask for her release.
