I have a headcannon that if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man met atsv!Hobie Brown, he’d have a crush on him.

Hear me out.

Throughout Tom’s franchise, he’s had two love interest. Michelle Jones and Liz Allen. They obviously have their similarities and differences but I’m just gonna bring up Tom!Peter’s obvious type.

They are both taller than Tom!Peter, are super intelligent since at some point, both Michelle and Liz are the captain of the Decathlon team. And they’re both black and fucking beautiful, let’s be real.

Expanding on Michelle more, she obviously has a very opinionated stance on the government and how history was run in the past. She’s all around observant and has a rather sarcastic and blunt humor.

Though, I suppose the biggest argument would be the fact that Hobie’s a man and Tom’s!Peter is also a man, and there’s no way to know if (MCU) Peter likes men. So I bring you one name to counter this.

Thor.

Now, obviously there’s no way to know for sure if Tom!Peter actually likes Thor, so I’m bringing in a little headcannon from the fandom altogether.

You know that one scene in Infinity War, where GotG meets Tony and Peter for the first time? They’re having that standoff and then Thor gets brought up. Quill brings up how he is “not that good looking” (total cap btw, coming from an asexual woman), and Tom!Peter makes that face.

Yeah, that one. Since then, people’s been making jokes that Peter just has a crush on Thor.

So now, let’s talk about Thor. He’s a total hotty god, with a tall, muscular build and a heavenly accent. Let’s be real now, who doesn’t have a crush on Thor in the MCU?

With all this, I’ve compiled a list of what Tom!Peter’s type is.

He likes them on the taller side, with a good looking face, and a nice build. He prefers a partner with high intellect, and likes them witty with a sense of humor.

Now, how do any of these mean Tom!Peter might have a crush on Hobie? Let’s compare.

Just from physical description alone, Hobie already matches Tom!Peter’s type. He’s tall, dark, and handsome all together.

He was “briefly” a runway model, having stated that in Across the Spiderverse during his introduction. He’s 6’5 in the atsv movie (though in comics he’s depicted as 5’11, which still doesn’t do anything cuz Tom is a whopping 5’8) and he’s black, obviously.He’s also very big on antidisestablishmentarianism (big word, ik) and just all around anti-govvy. His accent is also very attractive (to me at least).

So, yeah. There you have it folks. That is why I think Tom!Peter would have a crush on atsv!Hobie Brown were they to meet.

alrighty folks, i need to do a ramble. i saw infinity war, rest is under the cut of course. so SPOILERS!!!!!!

i HATED IT SO FUCKING MUCH SO FUCKING FUCIKING MUCH

alright. let’s get the big thoughts out of the way first. i am not mad people died, i also am not lying on the floor crying like so many have written they do. i feel nothing and it’s infuriating.

you know that effect when the scale goes up and up and up and it becomes less relatable in its one-upmanshit of itself? that was a typo and im not going to fix it. oneupmanshit. there you go.

thanos is a huge problem, i didn’t give a damn in the trailers, thought they might do stuff.. but.. omnipotence is just sooooo fuuuuucking boooooring and his motivations are “i do evil things because of a messed up conviction” but on the largest scale where it just seems so ridiculous and i can’t take him seriously even as he plows through the heros. his little lovey-dovey gamora moments don’t do shit considering how he raised her, set against her sister and all that. your love isn’t redeeming if it’s BIG-TIME abusive you fucking grapesicle.

okay so that’s thanos.

i think the plot and writing was exceptionally bad. everything that happens seemed to VERY obviously set up something they wanted to happen, which is how plots work but you’re not supposed to notice. and if the things that happen don’t make sense, it becomes even worse. just one example was stark’s line of we need to find vis, who might be able to find him “steve rogers might” why would he though?

steve isn’t this huge wealth of intelligence (as in knowledge and information, not smarts), if he had said natasha, that would’ve made sense. if he said wanda, that would have made sense. but no, we needed to set up the civil war talk and steve’s name had a bigger impact. bullshit.

OHOHOH, i should really talk about loki though. i got the feeling the russos just had no idea what to do with him and didn’t care. the only way his final actions make sense is if you view it as “suicide by thanos”. like. standing in front of thanos, giving him some weak drivel about pledging loyalty and then summoning a butter knife in the back of his hand, while thanos’ buddies stand behind HIM, and straight on attack? bull-fucking-shit. i could see how his final words might have been to thor, to say “hey, we’re family, goodbye” and shit.. but in his current state of mind and in that moment, it’s so out of character to do what he did.

loki would have slunk into the shadows, maybe fake being killed so that thanos might feel he had his fun and leave thor. which is what i hope happened, but somehow i don’t believe it anymore, since he would have been blown into space too, i guess. i had hopes he’d snuck onto the donut maybe, but.. nah.. probably not. though i WILL fantasize about loki being on titan too, with a very messed up tony. oh wait, quill’s alive too... right...

great scene by the way, on titan, kill all the aliens and let three human white dudes sitting there. eh, two. strange died too.

so, treatment of loki put me in a very bad headspace. they didn’t even bother showing the setup of that scene. bruce knows loki was sent by thanos. we will never know what loki actually said to them before they were borded, it’s just cast aside.

so, i am willing to attribute a lot of my grievances with this piece of shit movie to an opening scene that pissed me off ROYALLY. i wouldn’t have minded him dying per se, i was expecting it kind of, but the way they did crushed my suspension of disbelief. the bad writing continued to do that, so i was beside the movie, watching from the outside for the entire time and completely emotionally detached.

i wanted to go home to watch inane let’s plays and play idle games, i did not give a single fuck. i tried, i wanted to like the movie. i even came up with all sorts of plottwists, that might have made things interesting. one of which would be a heel-turn of thor where he kills thanos and takes the gauntlet, now THAT would have been cool and actually sort of in character. i liked his heart-to-heart with rocket about not having anything left, so... i could see it.

my mind supplied all these alternate developments to try and redeem what i was seeing, but no.. aaaaaand the disintegrating. now. infinity gauntlet complete, thanos nopes out of wakanda and half the universe dies. no send-off, no context. it felt like MARVEL culling the herd, that’s gotten to big, it felt fake and random. i mean it was supposed to be random in canon, but it really jsut felt to me like feige standing there with a clipboard going “okay black panther is gonna bomb, don’t need t’challa anymore i guess.... let’s see... bucky, eeh.. let’s kill all this stucky talk. who else. vis, out. (i was gald about that one actually)”

[and would they have killed of t’challa if they had known how well bp was received? maybe they thought it would just add some one-time “flavor” and be like this “see, we can have an african lead too” that didn’t need to be made any deeper. ugh.]

like the only death that had an impact was peter, he’s the only one that got sort of a send-off. i guess bucky, because he was the first, felt special too. it was sooo lazyyyy....

it’s like, we need to kill many people, but it’s also a disney movie so it cannot feel too much like a massacre. it just fucking sucked.

romance! eh. yeah. watching a 20-year old woman with a 2-year old man who looks about 60 is just so many shades of wrong and uncomfortable, god am i glad vision is gone.

there was the obligatory bruce-nat glances, but nothing more. there was a bit of tony-pepper stuff, and i hate that ship. squicks me the f out for some reason. one of them being that they reconciled off-screen in homecoming and i have never seen how there’s anything more than friendship between them, i see the two as a brother/sister like relationship, so the forced romance and marriage and all that, ugh.

quill and gamora is actgually pretty sweet, their moments also provide character development, i like.

ooookay that was a long one and i got a lot off my chest. i just felt hollow and like i wouldn’t be excited about anything in life anymore, i still feel like it tbh. even though i tried to not get hyped about it, because i had tons of doubt, i wanted to enjoy the movie and i so thoroughly didnt, that i do not feel like seeing another marvel movie ever again, and that is some strong shit.

i have measured my life in “how long until thor2″ and “just half a year to civil war” and stuff like that, so... it feels like a huge loss. hope ill get some excitement back somehow, just now i feel nothing but cynical and jaded and i hate it. i like to like things, i like being positive about things and i tried, i really tried.

i am indeed anti tony stark. i’ve answered an ask about this before which goes into more detail so you can see my full opinions here but overall.... i cannot stand that man. he’s arrogant, rude and constantly harms other characters at his own expense (see peter parker MULTIPLE times). he’s the source of almost half the villains in the mcu (does that not tell you something alarming?) and i just think his character became irredeemable after civil war (his treatment of bucky, sam, peter, wanda (even though i don’t like her anyway) and steve is just..... so fucked). he’s got no regard for anyone else’s feelings — specifically, something that you can imagine is very close to my heart, bruce, who he treats like shit (see infinity war when bruce re-enters earth. for stans who constantly talk about how tony has suffered and deserves rest and is traumatised etc. theyre real quiet when he’s ignoring all of that in other characters for his own gain or at the expense of a joke. it will NEVER sit right with me.).

something i didn’t mention in my og post is one of my biggest peeves with him is in endgame when he literally considers NOT bringing back half of the universe because it inconveniences him. pepper has to convince him? like come on dude how are we supposed to root for this character? the avengers have always been about trying to make things right and this mf just gives up for five years. it just don’t sit right with me.

i used to tolerate him but i’m just so actively against him now and i’m sorry to any of my followers that like him. i’ll just never be able to root for a character who is inferred (and explicitly) to be so villainous.

So I read your recent post about Natasha and found it extremely interesting, especially the part about Wanda. I honestly think Wanda is one of the most complex and interesting MCU characters, but recently I ran across a post that said they found it telling that Marvel made a white woman represent justified foreign anger against the US. Now, for context, there is a lot of discourse right now about whether Wanda is whitewashed. (You don’t have to talk about this if you don’t want to btw)

Well, Wanda was always a very light skinned Roma character. Granted, most Roma people don't exactly look like Esmeralda. Most look just as European as they technically are.

Now, the comic fans annoyed that MCU Wanda isn't described as Roma are even more pissed that she Americanized over the in-story years to the point that even her Sokovian accent faded. Which becomes one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't situations doesn't it? We fight for people to believe that not every immigrant has to have a funny accent, but if they don't have an accent at all, we call it immigration erasure...

We want diversity in stories, but we also want that diversity to be easy and predictable.

Now, it's equally amusing to me that one group of people are fighting for the American audience to see Wanda's nonwhiteness, while the other group labels her white and is annoyed when MCU acknowledges her nonwhiteness.

The WandaVision joke that Wanda is European only gets under the skin of a person who really doesn't CARE how Europeans think of themselves, so they and they alone point out that Vision/Paul is "also European" when that's not how geography works. Then, they get annoyed that a White American would consider a European exotic, because they just don't CARE to understand pre-Cold War politics. They don't even care to understand how Whiteness works. If Irish and Slavic people are considered white now, then they should be considered white in a story that takes place in the 1950s. That's how history works right? You can retroactively change it to fit your modern sentiments, right? They WANT all fair skinned people to retroactively become White because some Americans created the concept, and they WANT to understand the European sphere through American ideas. They actively encourage American exceptionalism and actually think that they're being different. They are, as Killmonger was, using the very tools of their enemies, and thinking they are somehow not. So, they and they alone think there is something wrong with a Slav being the face of MCU's anti-Americanism...

Why should the people from which the English word "slave" came from by loanwording the literal name of their people represent anti-Western sentiment? Is this some sort of attempt to make us feel empathy for and solidarity with them?! Never!!!!! (You know what was the easiest ways to get someone to shut up? Asking them if "gyp" and so many other words are bad and shouldn't be used under any circumstances, why do we still tolerate using the literal name of the Slavic people as the word for an indentured servant? NOTHING shuts a #Woke™ person up faster than being forced to acknowledge the suffering of European people. The Peace Corp Era has passed. Volunteering in Yugoslavia stopped being fashionable around the same time we gave up Freeing Tibet. There's only so many hashtag causes people can be outraged about at one time, and acknowledging that Brexit was England's "build a wall" issue because they STILL TO THIS DAY use Slavic people as cheap labor and English people thought leaving the EU would curb the flow of Those People into England to "steelur jewbs" would overload the American capacity to give a shit.)

But even more hilarious is if this wasn't true, and Sokovia, Zemo and Wanda weren't the linchpin of domestic conflict in The Infinity Saga, and it was a more obviously nonwhite culture instead: a non-Indo-Aryan Middle-Eastern, South Asian or African, or East Asian or native American one instead, then the same people who are annoyed by this would also hate that because they would hate a non-white culture only existing in the narrative to be destroyed and it's only characters that we meet being villains. 🤣

And with all that being said, I'm so excited for Shang-Chi this weekend. I'm so excited for another GOOD nonwhite villain. So tired of American men in suits.

Aly then told me that “hey remember that I told you that the little boy in Iron Man 3 comes back at one point? Yeah that’s at the funeral” 

STUPIDLY, I then watched the death scene on YouTube, went to bed crying, and of course, dreaming about it. I will never be okay again and I will never be ready for Endgame thank you and goodbye.

I was on a call with Aly as this happened and so I told her that I had given myself a spoiler again and that it was about Loki, and she was all like I can’t remember anything that happens to Loki hmm, and so I thought YAY it’s okay, they just meant one of the times when he fake died!!! so I went on to keep reading, but before I could read anything else Aly stopped me, remembering. She told me it would be gut-wrenching and terrible and I’m just-

it was an enjoyable movie, but like,,, a little meh? 

I feel kinda the same as I did with GOTG

but I like each of them better than the other for different reasons? idk???

the plot wasn’t very thick, like I could have gone away to pee without pausing and probably not miss too much

It was the shortest movie but it felt SO LONG because I was so bored through all of it

it just never got me hooked, I didn’t get invested in the story at all. 

there weren’t even any characters that I liked enough to want to see more

sure another infinity stone and getting to know doctor strange and shit, I get why you kinda need to watch it

but I doubt I’ll watch it again

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

just like with the first one, kinda meh

I didn’t really get into it until the last half hour or so

the music really carried this movie tho

and baby groot !!!

I love Nebula so much, such a great character

Yondu dying was really great, it did a lot for his character

I feel like it was barely contributing to the infinity saga, the only thing that’s somewhat connected is that Nebula wants to kill Thanos, and the only reason I know that’s connected is because of spoilers

because I’m not really supposed to know the significance of Thanos at this point

but then again, maybe I’ll feel differently when I’ve finished all the movies

this one falls somewhere in the middle for me

like it was good, and I enjoyed it a lot, but it just wasn’t really anything that left me all like woooaaaah omg AH you know???

I really liked how it connected back to previous movies like with Ronan and the Kree people from GOTG and the tesseract and all that jazz

my main problem with this movie is that HER POWERS MAKE NO SENSE 

like in the beginning it was kinda okay. I didn’t understand her powers, but at least they felt reasonable

then we got to the end and all of a sudden she’s flying and glowing and strong enough to stop and redirect a fuckin missile, and then she’s FLYING INTO BOMBS AND COMING OUT THE OTHER END COMPLETELY UNSCATHED?? 

OH AND THEN SHE FLIES INTO FUCKIN SPACE WITHOUT A HELMET OR ANYTHING AND SHE CAN BREATHE JUST FINE???

it just makes no sense, it’s completely unreasonable and it makes her too perfect to me. Too unbeatable. I don’t like it.

But, I actually think that knowing about Tony beforehand made it a bit easier

okay hi again, it’s the next day and I’m still sad but here are some more thoughts: 

I hated the whole Bruce/Hulk think. All the good parts about each side of his character were just erased.

I don’t even see the purpose of it. 

Okay I kinda knew that Steve was gonna go back to the 40s, but I WASN’T SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT SO SHH

anyway, I didn’t like Steve staying in the 40s, and here’s why: 

he knew that this was the single one out of 14 million times they won against Thanos, so he knew that changing anything at all would fuck it up

but at the same time, I find it hard to believe that Steve could be aware that Tony and Nat dies and not want to do anything about it

even though he knows he can’t

so wouldn’t it have been easier to just go back to the present after he returned all the stones? So he wouldn’t have to live with that dilemma?

ALSO, I WILL NOT ACCEPT that after everything he did to get Bucky back, he just leaves him. Just like that. 

Literally the only reason this makes sense is as a setup for the Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ series.

This was nice, I needed this. 

I didn’t like it as much as homecoming, but I didn’t expect to considering how much I loved hoco

it was really nice to see some more Peter Parker bc i love him but also like,,, most of it was traumatized spidey boy :((( and that was sad :(

but then I understood that that wasn’t happening so it’s all good

he’s a pretty cool antagonist. not a fave, but pretty cool. 

OH OH FLASH IS SO GAY FOR SPIDERMAN THO RIGHT

he actually got some real nice character development that I had not expected, that was nice

all in all, great movie, I love my spidey boy.

- etc etc what if the reason loki is unable to attack the purple dinosaur with magic is because when he tackled thor earlier, he used whatever magic he had left to spare in order to heal him

checks out cos thor goes from flat on his face to swinging his fists in the space of like 30 seconds and the only thing to happen to him in between is said bit about loki tackling him

- why does heimdall save hulk? i mean, i could understand it if he were trying to aim the bifrost at thor and somebody somehow knocked off his aim and he accidentally saves hulk, but like, we've established that heimdall's loyalty is to the royal seat of asgard upon whom sits thor's mighty ass. thor who, in this scene, has just been incapacitated by a metal eggshell(?) and is at the mercy of their assailants. given heimdall's priorities, it is baffling to the point of inconceivability that he would preferentially save fucking HULK over his own king.

- if this next scene isn't the guardians of the galaxy coming across thor clutching loki's dead fucking body floating through space then i don't know why any of us are even here

- "he sent loki! the attack on new york was thanos!" makes no sense? like, if loki's scepter had the mind stone in it, which we established it did in the last movie when we broke it open to retrieve vision, then.....why didn't thanos just....take the mind stone in the first place? cos rock collecting is and has always been his goal?

Wandavision episode 5 SPOILERS!!

So... I’ll say it and I won’t apologize for it Wanda IS a terrorist!

And she is supposed to be. She’s supposed to turn into a villain! A villain! Not an anti-hero like Loki, but a villain.

I’m just getting a bit tired that FBI/SWORD/SHIELD/CIA are always place in these series/movies to bully them. Sure, they’re bureaucratic and annoying but sometimes that is necessary, otherwise the arrogant superheroes cause a Civil War! The Director of SWORD had every right to call on Wanda’s danger.

When Director Hayward was calling her a terrorist, I was so mad that Monica defended her. I found it ridiculous. She described the experience inside Westfield as “excruciating, terrifying and a violation”. And when Hayward reminded her Wanda blasted her out of the town, she responded saying that at least she didn’t killed her. To me, it sounded as if let’s say a woman is hit by a man, seriously injured by him, oh but everything is fine because he didn’t kill her.

Maybe she still has traces of Wanda in her mind and that’s why she defends her.

Then, that same scene I felt like it was a very good (though unintentional) slap on WW84. One of the things that upset people the most about WW84 was the use of “handsome man”’s body to bring back Steve. Diana raped that guy! And Wanda is doing something similar but at a larger scale because she’s controlling thousands of people. Actually, thinking about her and Vision and the fact that they have flirted and even implied to be doing more... well I think we all know what that is called... UGH.

Did anyone noticed how Monica wasn’t able to explain where the twins came from??? She says that everything is real, but Jimmy was asking for the twins actual identities. If everyone has a life outside Westfield, shouldn’t the kids come from some other family?? They are Wanda’s kids for sure, but where do they come from?? She needs raw material to create them.

I’m disappointed that the twins don’t have their powers yet. Apparently in the X-men universe, mutants only get their powers until the reach puberty. But Wiccan was able to give life to the butterflies from inside the womb. So...

An wasn’t Wiccan controlling Sparky when he was showing off his training???

Also, and I have to credit my sister for this theory, the energy liberated during the snap cause the Mutants. Monica got her power through Wanda who got her own powers through an infinity stone.

Also, who is the neuroscientist that Monica called??? My bets are on Shuri (my sister’s theory), cause she’s the only one who has tried to work on Vision... right before he died. I think it could also be Dr. Strange, though he’s a neurosurgeon...

BTW, what the hell is an neuro-spatial engineer???

On to Captain Marvel. It seems like she’s not dear Aunty Carol anymore.

Now, again to Director Hayward. I don’t blame him at all for sending a drone with a missile. Wanda is a global threat, they have to get rid of her. It may have been a little too much, wanting to put up with the most powerful avenger, but I don’t blame him for trying.

Now, back to the children. Agnes says earlier on the show that you can’t control children. That’s why her twins don’t buy her excuses. And that’s also why there are no more children in the town. At first I though Wanda had some sort of ethic or moral compass that kept her from hurting children (because as the guy in Vision’s office said, it hurts!). But it’s not that, it’s that she can’t risk anyone rebelling.

I know some people are trying to defend Wanda, but to me she’s full villain already. I think it is looking for goodness where there is none. The Wanda who was kind is gone, if she ever was at all. I’ll write another post about this because this is too long already.

My Proposal For “Black Panther 2″

TL:DR; Black Panther 1 was about criticizing Wakanda for staying out of world affairs. Black Panther 2 will be about what are the consequences of Wakanda reentering it.

This is a very rough idea.

It has been two-three years since “Endgame”. We learn that during the years between “Infinity War” and “Endgame”, Wakanda began taking a more active role in Eastern Africa. M’Baku temporarily governed Wakanda alongside Okoye and Queen Ramonda, since T’Challa and Shuri were both dead at the time. Unfortunately, rifts quickly appeared between the Wakandans and their African neighbors, particularly in the nation of Niganda. There, Wakandans were disgusted by their Westernized brethren, feeling they had lost their true essence. Among those who lost family in the war was a young woman named Zenzi. (How do you feel about Michaela Coel as Zenzi.) It is during an attempted slaughter of her church that Zenzi discovers her potential magic powers.

In order to “liberate” them, a rogue group of Wakandans attempt to overthrow the Nigandan government. The civil war kills several Nigandans. T’Challa helps put down the rebels, at the cost of his own life, only a short while after “Endgame”. The violence, along with the international backlash, has several Wakandans thinking they were better off when the world forgot they existed.

It is into this uncertain void that Shuri enters. Her main rival for the kingship is M’Baku, as he represents the popular Isolationist Party. There to offer his well-wishes is the new American Ambassador to Wakanda, Everett Ross. Also there is the Belgian ambassador, Dieter Steinhauer. It is during the coronation that Zenzi begins her attacks on Wakanda, with several supporters among the numerous immigrants to Wakanda among other Africans. Her cry is that Wakanda is just another colonial power, seeking to mold their fellow Africans in their image. The usual Marvel stuff ensues, and Shuri defeats her in combat. However, throughout the movie it is implied she has outside help. It is revealed her mysterious backer is Steinhauer, working with a rogue faction of the CIA. Ross did not know. The big subplot of the movie is him and Nakia realizing this.

When asked to justify this, Steinhauer cites Ross’ own report. According to Ross, Killmonger, an anti-white extremist, nearly took over Wakanda, starting a war that would have killed millions. By driving Wakanda back into isolation, Steinhauer seeks to keep Wakanda from attacking Europe. BTW, he now has superpowers, due to taking a copy of Dr. Erskine’s formula. Nakia and Ross have to defeat him, largely alone. Fortunately, Shuri arrives at the last minute, beating him.

The movie ends with Shuri reassessing Wakanda’s role in the world, hoping to work on a more equal relationship. Finally, Nakia confronts the head of the CIA. She thinks the CIA knew about, and was backing Steinhauer. She says she can’t expose them, as she doesn’t know for sure. However, she warns the Director, she will be watching to make sure they don’t try anything again.

I am not anti Carol in the sense that I don’t want her in the MCU. But I do not hold her up as the be-all end-all and think I that the presentation of her is incredibly flawed.On that note, I also LOATHE how the fandom worships her to the extent that she can do no wrong, and anybody who dare criticise her (or Brie) in any way is actually the Devil Incarnate™.

Issue #1: She is too young

In my opinion they should have cast a much older actress in the role, if only because her iconic romance in the comics is with RHODEY, who is played by 54-year-old Don Cheadle.But apparently Captain Marvel, the most powerful superhero, can only be played by a 25-year-old (that’s how old she was when cast). 

That is honestly just as bad to me as Whedon insisting that the 26-year-old Elizabeth Olsen with her cleverly displayed cleavage was actually only 15 years old.And I adore Lizzie, even though I also have some issues with Wanda’s character (which I 1000000% blame on Whedon btw), but her supposedly being 15 in Age of Ultron was just… very infantilizing. 

And I really thought Marvel would have done better than that with Captain Marvel.I really thought we were going to finally get a badass superhero who is “past her prime”, and close to (or even over) 40. (@ Marvel, please don’t let me down with Janet Van Dyne. She is my girl and I want more of her). But no. We had to get someone in her 20s.

So yes, my first major issue with Carol is she is just too young. 

I would have KILLED to get Emily Blunt, Anna Torv, Lauren Cohen, or Miranda Otto in the role. Actually, if Michelle Pfieffer had been cast as Carol (even though she’s the most perfect Jan EVER) I might have died on the spot.And honestly? I’m still hoping we’ll see a grown up Monica show up played by Rutina Wesley and she’ll take over the Captain Marvel mantle on earth while Carol is off doing stuff in space. (somebody get on that please? Give me Rutina Wesley as Monica Rambeau asap).

Issue #2: and this is going to be the one that’s gonna get me a shitton of anon hate I don’t think Brie Larson was right for the role

Carol Danvers is supposed to be a very commanding and imposing presence, and while Brie is a good actress I don’t think she’s good at that. Her voice alone makes it difficult for me to take her seriously.As an audio professional who has done quite a bit of vocal work (both in performing and coaching), I can tell you that there are different ways you can use your voice, and Brie is just not using her voice effectively. If I just listen to her performance, she’s more believable in a teen romcom than as Captain Marvel. To me, she would be more believable as a superhero more akin to Tony Stark - someone who’s main superpower is his genius brain - as opposed to characters like Steve Rogers or Thor, whose superpower is physical badassery.

And there are definitely ways that women can utilize higher/lighter sounding voices in order to sound more commanding. My own voice is naturally very high and light sounding (unfortunately often even veering towards shrill), but through a lot of training I have learned how to make it sound appealing and still draw the attention of everybody in the room.

And all of that is nothing against Brie. The voice is just a tool. But unfortunately, because Brie doesn’t seem to be as proficient in using this tool as other actresses are, it’s incredibly difficult for me to find her performance believable (or to take her seriously). Maybe she could have been coached to make it better, or performed her differently. But whatever it was, it just didn’t work for me.

She also doesn’t have a lot of screen presence. She is very good at smaller, more intimate moments (my favorite Carol moment was when she saw Nick had died. It was such a small moment but I FELT that), but doesn’t have the charisma to draw the eye in larger moments like RDJ (who she is reportedly replacing as the face of the MCU) does.

Issue #3: Her powers

Now I’m not saying that I have an issue with how powerful she is. Quite the contrary. I’m all for powerful badass women.

But I am reminded of something I saw where people were criticizing Endgame because “if Carol can fly through a ship, why can’t she just ram into Thanos and kill him”?

And that is more an issue with her than with the writing. She doesn’t have to struggle with her powers. In fact the struggle in her movie was learning that she didn’t have to suppress her powers.She was made so powerful that there should never be any threat whatsoever in the MCU. And she didn’t even build up to that (like Thor did in Ragnarok and Infinity War). There was no learning curve. She just has it.

So it begs the question: why should there ever be any stakes again? If Captain Marvel is that powerful, how is there any villain that can stand a chance against her?And if the guy who literally wiped out half of all life in the universe is less powerful than her, and I doubt they’re going to repeat the brainwashing plot, how is she going to have any villains in any of her future movies? If she’s that powerful, any movie that she’s in should be over in five minutes.

Name one MCU villain who is more powerful than Thanos, and I guess I might find that person a believable villain for her to go up against.But as it stands, I don’t see how they will ever be able to do interesting stories with her or develop her in interesting ways if there is no struggle, no learning curve, and no setbacks.

Issue #4: Fandom

Honestly? Y’all need to chill. 

Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs for thinking that other characters are more powerful than Carol.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs for not liking Carol.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs if they have issues with how her movie was written, how her character was written, or how her character was performed.Stop acting as if people are sexist pigs if they think that the guy who wiped out half the universe (and was about to wipe out the entire universe) is more powerful than she is.

You can disagree with people all you want, but the instant you start belittling people or calling them sexist pigs for having those opinions I personally stop wanting anything to do with you. (wow. what a horrible threat. I have such a high opinion of myself that I think you all will change your opinions if I say I want nothing to do with you. Clearly I need to take several seats)

And on that note, I am going to wait for a bunch of hate mail to start coming in.And for a lot of blogs to start blocking me because, even as a woman, I have been informed that I am not allowed to dislike Carol Danvers in any way shape or form.

As I responded to one anon in my inbox, most of the time I ignore anon shit like I'm getting right now... people that come at you with hostility and have to hide behind anonymous, they're generally not worth the time. For example, and let me be clear that I'm not *just* talking about rn with the Endgame drama, I've had anons call me a "Dyke ass fag lover", tell me I'm delusional for shipping Stucky, laugh at me and other Stucky fans being devastated over Bucky getting dusted in Infinity War, etc. Hell before Endgame, I got an anon telling me "Bitch kill yourself, the movie is called Endgame because Steggy WILL be endgame!" (This was after I argued that Steve cares deeply for Bucky, and saying that he obviously loved Bucky like a brother at the very least, when a Steggy/anti Stucky tried saying Steve doesn't give a shit about Bucky 🙄)

I know what being attacked on here is actually like. Please don't tell me that responding to someone who is rudely generalizing and name calling is somehow ME attacking.

Shuri’s Greatest Adversaries, #2: Proxima Midnight

First Encounter With Shuri

New Avengers Vol. 3 #11

Background

A member of Thanos’ infamous Black Order, Proxima is arguably the greatest warrior in Thanos’ army. She is known for her great power, ruthlessness, and cruelty.

Abilities

-Superhuman strength

-Superhuman speed

-Superhuman endurance

-Master combatant.

Importance

I once said that Proxima was arguably Shuri’s greatest nemesis and there are a lot of reasons to feel that way. Proxima was directly involved in three major moments in both Shuri’s reign as queen and Shuri’s life.

It was Proxima that lead the charge to successfully breach Wakanda’s walls during the events of Infinity, a feat no other opponent has achieved in all of Wakanda’s history. It was Proxima who essentially destroyed all hope of T’Challa and Shuri stopping the Cabal from wreaking havoc in Wakanda and elsewhere, and thus all hope Wakanda had left.

It was also Proxima that “ended” Shuri’s life.

Yet, after much thought, I couldn’t put her at number one of Shuri’s greatest adversaries. That is reserved for a special someone (longtime BP fans should have a pretty good idea of who I’m talking about).

That said, I can say that Proxima is hands down Shuri’s most dangerous opponent. Proxima couldn’t be stopped and is perhaps the only character that forced Shuri to retreat on more than one occasion.

Proxima’s presence also helped confirm the strong suspicions most Wakandans had of the outside world. As Klaw has done with T’Chaka, another Black Panther fell at the hands of an outsider. In addition, the Cabal (composed of Thanos, his Black Order, Terrax, Maximus the Mad, and Namor) managed to black mail the world: we will spare you from world-ending incursions, but you must give up Wakanda. When Wakanda got attacked and sought assistance, no one came.

It will be very interesting to see if Shuri and Proxima will interact in the MCU, as both are set to appear in Infinity War.

Conflict

Thanos sought the infinity gems and discovered that they were on Earth. He also knew that T’Challa was within the presence of one of them. Thus, he sent the Black Order and the rest of his army to invade Earth and especially certain locations, one of them being Wakanda.

The Wakandans managed repeal the first wave led by Black Dwarf, but things weren’t over. Unexpectedly to them, a second wave appeared soon appeared (remember this tidbit, btw. It’s extremely relevant to the next “Adversary” post). This time, Proxima led the charge, and she would not be denied.

Her charge was relentless. To make matters worse, the Wakandans were somewhat caught off-guard, due to them not knowing the reason why Thanos’ army showed up in Wakanda in the first place (T’Challa continued to keep his pact with the Illuminati and thus didn’t divulge his knowledge of the infinity gem to Shuri or the rest of the Wakandan government). They expected a second wave, but they did not expect such a determined presence compared to the previous one. Thus, Shuri ordered her forces to retreat.

Later on, the Cabal, gathered by Namor, was unleashed to help stop incursions that threatened the existence of the Marvel Universe. The Cabal procured planetary anti-matter bombs and decided to blackmail the governments of Earth: give up Wakanda if you want us to stop the next incursion.

The governments of Earth agreed and Wakanda was left to its own devices again Thanos, his Black Order, and his army. Wakanda stood no chance after another major attack so soon from such a powerful foe. Thanos’ forces committed something akin to genocide--only a few thousand Wakandans left alive--and destroyed the country.

As a last ditch effort, T’Challa and Shuri tried to steal the anti-matter bombs while the Cabal was apparently handling an incursion. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a set-up, as Proxima, Maximus, and notable amount of combat drones appeared, ready to finish the panthers. 

T’Challa and Shuri barely escaped and retreated once more. As T’Challa contacted other Illuminati members to inform them of the failed plan, Shuri decided to stay back and allow T’Challa time to escape, preferring to go down fighting on Wakandan soil instead.

Thus, Shuri spent her final moments as queen in battle.

Coming Up

Shuri has had several adversaries, but never had as much bad blood as she did with this fellow…

Sigh* I’m not doing anything else today soooo...

Sour Sharon’s seem to be under the impression that we’re angry, but the truth is they are the bitter ones. Yeah, the kiss repulsed most people. It was disgusting and disturbing and took Steve out character. But guess what? Marvel is about to pretend it didn’t happen. Marvel is about to pretend that Sharon didn’t happen.

Why did you say this? What was your point here? Because even so, it doesn’t change it happened. Much like how they can pretend Betty Ross or the entirety of The Incredible Hulk didn’t happen (extremely underrated btw), but it’s still a thing that happened. Bruce/Nat (also universally hated) was a thing- and as much as people hated that and/or ignored it- it didn’t change the fact it happened. Trust me, Marvel won’t forget about it as much as people like to take about it whether they hated Staron or not.

She’s not going to be in Infinity Wars. She and that kiss were universally panned by audiences and critics alike. That’s a fact! Read any review. And producers had to come out and clarify that Staron wasn’t technically incest because audiences were so repulsed. Which after the release of CW was all they ever said about Sharon and Staron. Hardly a statement of belief in the character or “relationship!” New merchandise didn’t stem from Sharon’s appearance in the MCU.

More rambling as if it’s going to change how I’m supposed to change how I felt about the kiss. You’re right, universally hated I’m afraid I have to admit, but why do we have to reminded? I’ve seen the reviews- and I still don’t see much problems with it, the movie all together was a mess but no one’s talking about that- instead we’re all still pressed over this kiss as if the movie revolved around it. More important things happened in this movie that I wish more people would talk about, but we’re still arguing over a kiss.

Most Marvel women don’t get merchandise... Where’s your outrage over that? Marvel hates making female merchandise, given how Maya Hensen role as the IM3 villain was dropped because Marvel said she wouldn’t sale. #wheresmygamora? Remember that? People still want more Black Widow merch and a movie, Marvel’s second most popular female to Peggy, and even she gets shafted to side in the execs hands.? Marvel favored Peggy for a long time and I get the hype was real with her TV show and her cameos on AOS, Age of Ultron, Ant Man or wherever else. But if you all can’t see she’s being favored over other Marvel women who are shafted then that’s sad. You’re privileged, of course be proud.

The actress who played her has never been invited to a convention as a guest. If anything, playing Sharon hurt her career. She was out of work for year and had to return to TV as a supporting player, not a lead. And even in the comics now, Sharon is being written as an antagonist, maybe even a villain, for a beloved character. And if anyone should try and read her there now, that’s what they are going to see of her: Sharon bullying a young black girl.

I think saying CW hurt her career is a bit harsh, if she finally got some work then that’s good for her, granted it maybe isn’t what she hoped but from what I last read she’s still under contract with Marvel they could very much decide to use her again some time- especially when they go with the BuckyCap arc she could be a supporting player who knows. Emily was put in a bad position, if she had more screen time prior I think most people would’ve warmed up to her, Hollywood would possibly see her as a saleable actress and will sign her for projects left and right. It is not soley Emily’s fault she’s been thrown under the bus because of CW.

Yes, Marvel is making everybody assholes now if you haven’t been paying attention- if I recall they made Magneto HYDRA, of course Cap as well, if they’re going to touch Sharon with that mess then that’s unfortunate that an overall well-loved character would be written in such a way. Congratulations, you may have legitimate reasons to hate her now.

but guess what Sour Sharon’s – YOU LOSE. You can blame misogyny and sexism and ship wars all you like, but Sharon had her shot to move into the mainstream and people hated her. The character will never recover from being Peggy’s poor substitute, her incestuous niece. Sharon Carter is either completely forgettable or completely hated by mainstream media, and I’m glad. Be sour – sour Sharon’s because no one liked your fav.

Anyway, If you weren’t so mad then why did you make this confession? And why is it in the tag? And why are you still pressed over how we feel? We’re here in this tag because we’re mostly a community that loves Sharon and it’s you guys who are coming here and telling us why you don’t like her or why we should hate her, you’re trying to make yourselves heard to a group of fans who are going to refute you? Which I don’t understand it honestly. Hi, internet. How’s it going?

So, unless you live under a rock, you’ve noticed the starkers vs the antis issue going around.

If you haven’t here’s a brief summary: starkers are people who ship MCU Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland)/MCU Tony Stark (played by rdj). Those details are very specific because in the MCU, Peter is a young boy (age 15 or 16 during infinity war) who is still in high school and Tony Stark is a wealthy business man in his forties. The antis are so strongly against this ship because the see it as pedophilloic and even inscestual. Starkers, obviously, disagree with this. There have been threats toward starkers and overall hate involving this. So I decided to make a general statement about this.

As a fan of the MCU and a supporter of all types of creators, i have come across Starker in my time on tumblr and AO3. Honestly, I don’t have a problem with it. (Tbh I’ve seen waaaay worse lololololol) I’ll keep my specific opinions to myself, but, for the record, I don’t give a shit what Starkers produce. It’s like all opinions; as long as they’re not shoving it down my throat and telling me that it’s the only canon ship in the entire MCU, I’m fine with it. I know there is going to be ships in every fandom that I don’t personally ship, so I keep my distance.

But

I’m sorry, but some of the stuff the antis are doing concern me. Like some of the stuff some of them say about Starkers and the ducking threats make me extremely worried. Like, this is kind of off topic but idfc, I saw a list of antis sorted into columns based on “how anti-starker” you are. And there was a blog, who shall remain nameless, that had tagged “fuck st*rkers” but they were in the column that was “has in bio and said Starkers DNI” or something like that. That may have just been a small error, but for some reason, it really made me mad.

I get it. It’s your blog. You can do whatever the fuck you want to do on it. It’s yours. But, not to sound like your second grade teacher, there’s nicer ways to phrase “fuck starkers” in your bio. You can add something like “pls don’t tag my stuff as a ship thanks!” See how mcuh more friendly it sounds?

And side note, what’s the deal with the * in place of the a? Like I said, somebody tagged a post “fuck st*rkers”. I think saying fuck on your blog is a little worse than saying starker. I just don’t get it.

And pls don’t get me wrong. There are a fair number of starker blogs and fanfics I have major issues with. But you know what i do?

I ignore them

I scroll right through them

I don’t search them up just to get mad

Wow, crazy, I know.

Bc starker stuff comes up in my dashboard even though I don’t ship it. Tons of random ships just appear on my dashboard bc I’m so deep into the marvel fandom that Tumblr won’t let me even try to get out now lol.

But I don’t give threats to the creators! I don’t write fucking novels on why I hate one side or the other. I just keep scrolling. Because what’s the use of adding fuel to the fire? (This Spies to both Starkers and antis btw).

I hope this post is a middle ground for starkers and antis. I’m trying not to favor either side too much because the thing I don’t want to do is cause something else. June is fucking pride month, a month meant to celebrate acceptance and happiness towards each other as humans. And, as far as I know, it seemed to get worse this June.

I’m not asking for everyone to hold hands and sing fucking Kumbaya. I’m just asking for everyone to try to be tolerant of everyone.

Top 5 Movies of 2018.

Here’s something I thought of for a while now, my 5 favorite movies of this year, plus some noteworthy mentions:

5. Venom- This movie is honestly intriguing, what with having famous Spider-Man villain, Venom be a something of a hero. The Venom symbiote was a hilarious voice in Eddie’s head and honestly, this movie was 1000 times better than Fallen Kingdom.

4. Hotel Transylvania 3- This movie was fun and hilarious, just like the other movies! I actually actually like movies these movies despite what people say, maybe it’s because Genndy “I help put Cartoon Network on the map” Tartakovsky Directed the movies and even got to write for this one! Also fun fact: The plot of a Dracula falling in love with the descendent of Van Helsing was an early idea for the first movie!

3. Wreck it Ralph 2- This movie is just a metric ton of fun! I loved everything about this film! I even loved Vanellope’s musical number! I even saw Nick, Judy and Rocket Raccoon make cameos! The post credit scenes are probably one the funniest I’ve seen. Btw, now that this movie exists, YOU CAN’T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE EMOJI MOVIE ANYMORE BECAUSE NOW WE HAVE A BETTER ALTERNATIVE! LET THAT FILM BE LOST TO THE SANDS OF TIME!

2. Ready Player One- This is a really good movie and I will stab anyone who disagrees! This movie is the good kind of nostalgic, even how the movie plays out feels nostalgic! It also has so much cool references to geek culture, you could watch it a 10th time and STILL find a new reference you didn’t see the other 9 times so this movie has good rewatch value!

1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse- This movie is, by definition, a work of art! It has the art style of a comic book, it’s characters are all likeable, the music is fantastic, also it knows that literally almost EVERYONE knows something about Spider-Man. This film/movie/work-of-art just works on SO MANY LEVELS! It’s like the anti-Ice Age: Collision Course, both franchises had their first movie come out in 2002, both made constant movies about them and about 15 years later they end up with different results, in where Collision Course was the textbook definition of disappointment and where Spider-Verse is the textbook definition of a Work of Art!

Now for noteworthy mentions:

- Avengers: Infinity War- This was a hilarious film. Also, part 2 is most likely going to undo those deaths people, STOP CRYING!

- Wrinkle in Time- It was nice. Honestly, I feel like this a movie I needed to see to feel better.

- Pacific Rim: Uprising- It has a lot of good ideas and I like it for that.

- Incredibles 2- Was it worth the 14 years? Yes and no. No because the Violet subplot could’ve been handled better and Screenslaver wasn’t as fun or entertaining a villain as Syndrome or even Bomb Voyage And Underminer for that matter! However, the yes DOES outweigh the no.

- Deadpool 2- Hilarious as you’d expect. Not much else to say.

- Black Panther- This one was alright, I like Kilmonger as a cautionary tale of becoming the very thing you hate.

- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom- THIS MOVIE SUCKS! It’s like it was written by some idiot SJW with a Twitter account! Everyone was fine in the first half but it fell apart after the second half.

-Ant Man and the Wasp- It was alright. The running “Truth serum” bit was funny.

I look forward to seeing the movies in 2019.
