Overall, ICT has countless applications that make life significantly easier and more efficient in so many aspects. It’s amazing how technology has streamlined so many aspects of life, making daily tasks simpler, faster, and more convenient. I’m sure many of us can agree that ICT has made our lives more connected and efficient. Whether it's for work, education, or personal needs, the ways in which technology improves our lives are limitless, and its role in our day-to-day activities will only continue to grow in importance.

In our generation, we are often referred to as "Digital Natives" because we were born into a world filled with various digital devices such as computers, laptops, and smartphones. These devices grant us easy access to different types of media and information with just a few clicks. Personally, I use a variety of media sources, including broadcasts, games, films, shows, and social media. Having this access is very helpful in our daily lives.

As a student, media is a huge part of my daily routine. On average, I spend more than 10 hours a day using media both for educational and entertainment purposes. For instance, when studying, I go to various social media platforms when I need help with my academics as there are tons of  people and channels that post tutorials to help students better understand their lessons. I also use media for entertainment during my free time, like watching movies and shows or playing games on platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo. I also listen to broadcasts, such as AM and FM radio, for news updates and entertainment while on car rides. Lastly, Social media platforms, like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, is my main source of entertainment, and I use it regularly during meals, breaks, or before bed.

Since I spend most of my time in the media, I often encounter various types of information, such as celebrity news or other trending topics like rumors. To make sure that the information is accurate, I double-check its authenticity on news pages like ABS-CBN or GMA or on broadcast channels like AM radio before believing it.

Being a student in today’s digital age, I also use a variety of computer software and apps to help me with my studies. I use Google Docs to take notes and draft papers. Microsoft Word is another tool I use for writing papers and taking notes.  For creating posters, presentations, and reports, I always use Canva. When preparing for quizzes, I use Quizlet to make flashcards and help me with my revision for incoming exams. These apps and websites help me be more efficient and effective in completing my tasks and studying. 

For entertainment, I enjoy watching Netflix and Disney+ and using social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Communication has also been more convenient through apps like Messenger, Viber, and WeChat, which are very convenient for us to communicate with family and friends especially if they are far away. Being in another city, province, or even country with our loved ones could be hard but because of the presence of the internet and all these social media platforms, we feel as though distance might be shorter between us. 

In conclusion, I think that it is safe to say that the media has a significant impact not just on our generation but also on other generations. Media has been a part of our daily lives and it could affect us in so many ways. From waking up every morning and checking your phone for messages or any social media updates to saying good night to our loved ones from miles apart, our lives would not be the same and much more complicated without it.

I never know what to call these, esp. with this one, but the ending result will be this:

I never actually saved the exact PSD for this edit, so this example may be a little different when it comes to the colors, but the idea is still the same. for this tutorial you will need:

basic gif and photoshop understanding

other then that it’s pretty simple, and doesn’t take too long so here we go~

You’re gonna first start with making you gifs. If you don’t know how to make one, I made a detailed tutorial on how to make a gif

here

. Keep in mind for best results you’ll want to choose scenes that have a decently solid background, and what ever is black, the top layer will show up on. Once you make your gifs we’ll have this:

Once you make your gifs, save it like would be ready to post it online, and then reopen them in photoshop again:

once you open both gifs, you’ll want to change it to timeline again:

once you made it to timeline, highlight all of the layers and convert it to a smart object:

once you convert both gifs to a smart object in timeline, take one of the gifs and drag the layers onto the other:

next this we’re gonna do is highlight and duplicate the top gif. if you’re unsure which one you want to have on top, for this example the top layer is the one that has the white lines. wherever black is on the top gif will reveal what’s under it. now the layers should look like this:

for this next step we’re going to make the lines on the top gif. with the top layer highlighted, we’re going to apply a smart blur. to do this go to filter > blur > smart blur:

then this window should pop up:

for the line effect we want change the quality to hight and the mode to edge only:

now it looks like this:

then change the blending mode for the later to lighten:

then we should have this:

next we’re going to add the gradiant map for the top layer:

for this top one i made it yellow and black:

and the layers should look like this:

for this next part we’re going to apply the gradient map to only the top gif layer by creating a clipping mask. highlight the gradient map layer, right click, and click create clipping mask:

after this change the blending mode to the top gif later to exclusion:

now the gif should look like this:

next we’re going to add a gradient map layer for the first gif layer. for this layer i choose a blue/green color with black:

now the gif looks like this:

now just add the text on top:

What do you typically have for breakfast? I skip breakfast Monday to Friday. On weekends either of my parents will usually make fried rice served with 3–4 of the following: eggs, hotdogs, corned beef, dried fish, ham, longganisa, and luncheon meat.

Where do you purchase most of your clothes? There’s a tiangge at the local mall where they will change up the collection of clothes being sold every couple of weeks. They have trendy choices at really low prices so that’s where I liked getting clothes back when I went out more.

What are you currently streaming? I have an episode of (surprise!) 2D1N turned on, but it’s paused.

What do you typically order when you go for coffee? Iced caramel macchiato. I actually switched it up today and went for a basic iced mocha, though. Just wanted to try something new, I guess.

Anything you’re looking out for at the thrift? No, and I don’t usually make trips to thrift stores either.

Who are your favorite YouTubers? Louise Pentland is a recent favorite. There’s also Good Mythical Morning, Grace Helbig, and The Try Guys. I also like a ton of BuzzFeed people but I don’t think they count as YouTubers. I like a good number of local vloggers as well but they’re no one you would recognize.

Describe your skincare routine. I just splash some water onto my face first thing in the morning, every day.

What’s your typical morning routine look like? Work has conditioned me to automatically wake up at 6:30, and by then I have the choice to either go back to sleep or try to properly wake up by watching YouTube videos. Either way, I have to be up by 8 so I can start working. And like I said, I briefly wash my face, then I immediately head to my laptop. That’s it, really; it’s super uneventful and I'm sorry I can’t make it any more interesting lol.

Are you still playing Animal Crossing? I never bought the game, actually. I asked Nina if I should buy it and she said it probably won’t be suitable for me since the game requires a lot of creativity, which as y’all know by now I lack entirely hahaha. I have my eyes set on other games.

How has the pandemic specifically affected you? It kept me from having a memorable final year in university, and it kept me from having a graduation ceremony. We also had to sell one of our cars, which I really loved driving when we still had it, so that bummed me out. I believe the pandemic had also been a slight factor in the crumbling of my former relationship as well.

Where’s your favorite place to go for brunch? I never go out for brunch.

What’s on your nightstand? Right now there is a bunch of books on it and a paper envelope from work.

What do you think about before falling asleep? Anything except my already pending deliverables work for the following day.

What is your main source of anxiety? Continued from the previous evening. I don’t know if there’s a main catalyst...a lot of things have the ability to make me feel anxious.

Any bands or artists you’ve recently discovered? I’m going further down the K-pop rabbit hole as I know it, lmao. It’s starting, you guys. This week I discovered GOT7; I’ve only heard one song so far but I’m extremely hooked. Ravi’s also very talented and has catchy songs.

What are your goals for today? Have a great rest of the evening and enjoy the start of my weekend.

What kind of games do you play on your phone? I haven’t been playing a lot of games on it, actually. I mainly use it to keep track of my Viber notifications (because my laptop sometimes won’t, and I end up replying to some work threads late) and to watch on Viu. But the last game I downloaded was a logo quiz game for old times’ sake.

Are there any packages you’re waiting to come in through the mail? Nah, haven’t ordered anything recently. I think I’m over my online shopping phase hahaha. I was just really excited about it when I got my first couple of paychecks, but now that the initial thrill has passed, I mainly look forward to spending on food – exactly like how I predicted it would be for me.

Describe your favorite t-shirt? I’d neverrrrr throw out my CM Punk Best in the World shirt for the world, no matter how more tattered and stained it gets. It’s one of my prized possessions and it reminds me of a really happy and carefree time in my life.

Do you have a specific aesthetic? I don’t know if I fit into a certain one; I certainly don’t consciously try to. You’d have to ask my friends if I do have a specific kind.

Skinny jeans or mom jeans? Mom jeans, a thousand times over. I dread wearing skinny jeans.

What’s your favorite 90s cartoon? The Wild Thornberrys.

Describe the moment you realized you were falling in love with someone. I felt scared more than anything else. I’ve never felt such a heavy sensation before, so I didn’t know what was going on. I also felt the need to be around them as much as I can, as I was starting to love and enjoy their presence, and be the one to attend to their needs.

Have you tried the feta and tomato recipe? No but sounds delicious.

What’s your favorite sparkling water brand/flavor? I don’t drink that. Sounds nasty.

What’s your favorite makeup brand/brands? Don’t wear makeup, either.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever taken? I don’t think I ever took an advice I knew was bad or would be useless or irrelevant to me. But this reminds me of my mom’s favorite piece of advice for every bad situation, which is to pray lmao.

I’ve never felt the need to get the actual app, though. I get my TikTok fix on Facebook, which makes me feel old saying so LOL

i’m flattered that you have chosen to come to me!! under the cut i will be covering the most basic of basics in my gif making processes. i use photoshop CS5 but these are likely transferable to other versions of photoshop dont take my word on it ok buckle up kids

Sizing

To get started you obviously want to find what you want to gif. Generally, I’ve found that the less realistic the footage is, the easier it will be to make it a small file. For example, making an adventure time gif will be much easier to get under tumblr’s limit than a live action movie or show. Remember that tumblr’s gif size limit is 3MB. There’s many factors you can control to get the picture size down, but the main two are the amount of frames in a gif and the pixel size of the image. 

I try to keep my frames between 80 and about 130. The fewer frames will help decrease file size, but you have to watch the animation for sometimes too few frames can make the gif hard on the eyes or tacky (for lack of a better word).

For image size, I first crop the image to the part I want to gif and then reduce it to a width of around 500px. This is for the standard 2x4 post I usually do (example). It might look small in photoshop, but remember tumblr shrinks it to fit in the post. 

Coloring

The best way to color gifs (or add filters) is to experiment. There’s really no correct way. I’ll show you where you can find the tools to start experimenting.

First, I like to put all my layers into a group folder. Then, you’ll want to click on this black and white circle which will open a drop-down menu. It’s fun to mess around with all of them, but I’ll talk about the ones I use the most: Brightness/Contrast, Levels, Vibrance, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, and Selective Color.

Brightness/ContrastThis one is pretty self-explanatory. This feature makes your picture lighter or darker and can add more contrast between the colors in the image.

Let’s start with the base image. I’ve taken a random clip of pearl and agate for the purpose of this tutorial. This is what it looks like in its unaltered form. The brightness and contrast window is right next to it.

Unaltered, the image is already very bright by itself. You’d play with this setting if you wanted to make a darker gif with that scene or maybe bring out the colors with less contrast. It might help with a pastel gifset, which I will talk about in Levels.

LevelsI’ll be honest, I didn’t know what this meant until I wanted to try pastel sets and searched for tutorials. 

Levels is going to give you a weird ass lookin’ graph like this. It will vary depending on the original image, so don’t panic if it looks different than my example. Bringing the middle arrow to the right of the scale makes the image darker and more vibrant, like so:

On the opposite end, bringing the arrow to the left will give a more pastel effect.

It’s best to just play around with this one; results really depend on the original image. You might want to go only a little to the left, or much higher -- you’ve got to use your eye and what you think looks best. 

ViberanceViberance is a good choice for when I want to bring out the colors of my gifs or even tone them down.

If you look back earlier at the original image, this picture altered with the viberance adjustment has a bit more color. It’s more... vibrant. Saturation is used to make the colors pop (going right) or make the colors more dull (going left). I upped the saturation in the image above; let’s see what happens when you go down:

It takes out the color, but not so much so that it is made black and white.

Hue/SaturationThis setting is similar to the saturation in viberance, but you can get more detailed in this one. Let’s say I want to tone down agate and bring the focus on pearl. We’re gonna go back to the unaltered clip. In the window, there’s a drop-down with different colors. These are the main color categories photoshop works with, so to speak.

Let’s go to blue, as that is agate’s main color. Our options to mess around with are the hue, saturation, and lightness. I’m going to take down (move the arrow to the left) agate’s saturation and lightness. 

Now she’s practically black and white while pearl, who doesn’t have any blue on her (it’s cyan), stays the same.

Wondering what the top bar is for? You can use that to change the color. Let’s say for some reason, I wanted to make this blue agate one of pink diamond’s agates instead.

Move that bar around +90, you’ve got a pink agate. It was a little grainy, so I messed with the lightness too. You can experiment with all kinds of colors!

Color BalanceI rely on this one a lot. Here we are with the unaltered image again. In this window, you can see three tones -- shadows, midtones, and highlights -- as well as three color bars. The highlight setting colors the pictures highlights, the shadows color the shadows, and the same for midtones. This is a good setting for a “filters.”

I would be lying if I didn’t say my main strategy here is to just mess around with it until I get something that looks decent. I’m going to give this a pink/magenta-y color balance setting as 1) I like it on Pearl and 2) I just like it in general. This image is a bit over-exaggerated for the sake of a tutorial.

As you can see, moving the arrows toward magenta and blue have given it a pink “filter.” It is up to your best judgement to decide how far those arrows go down the bar, and don’t be afraid to combine changes in the other tones, too!

Selective ColorThe main reason I use this adjustment is to avoid whitewashing. It’s easy to do it by mistake when making pastel gifs. Let’s take Marina from Splatoon 2 and say I want to make a pastel splatoon set. Here’s the original image. I already used Color Balance to get the color I want.

Now I’m gonna add the pastel with Levels -- AHH! What happened to her skin?? NO THANK YOU. BAD. 

Let’s fix that immediately. Here comes Selective Color! It will give you the option of colors to alter. We want to choose Red, as where that’s where most of the brown comes from. She also had a bit of yellow in her face, so I altered that too. Go to the bar labelled ‘black’ and push it to the right.

Better! She keeps her dark skin while still keeping the pastel feel. 

What a cutie!!

You can use this adjustment setting when you don’t want a certain color to be as altered as the others.

Saving SettingsSaving your gif is probably the most frustrating part of the entire process. I sit waiting for it to load, asking it to please be under 3.0 MB. If you don’t already know, File>Save for Web & Devices will look like this.

Sometimes, Photoshop will make your gifs look like garbage. This is frustrating. To work around it, you are welcome to copy my settings. Be sure to change the colors to 256 for the best quality. 

Luckily, my gif came out to below 3.0MB. If yours doesn’t, don’t panic. Make the image smaller or take out some frames.
