Sega's partnership with Pepsi for competitive arcade games didn't stop at Fighting Vipers. Here's a flyer for a Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram tournament sponsored by Pepsi (and the ad on the reverse side)! Too bad VOOT didn't include a playable Pepsiman Virtuaroid...

SEGA’S VIRTUAL-ON - LUTAS INSANAS ENTRE VIRTUAROIDS

shoutout to your Raiden profile pic! probably one of my favorite Virtuaroids, it flips between it and Grys-Vok/Stein-Vok for me
you like em big bois! Raiden's def one of the coolest the way he slides across the arena with that bazooka, but I'd have to say my personal fave is Viper-II... every Virtuaoid fucks in the design department tho tbh

Another day volunteering at the Virtuaroid Arena. Everyone keeps asking me if they can fuck the Fei-Yen. Buddy, they won't even let me fuck it.

The PlayStation 2 version of Virtual On is a rebuilt port of the original Sega AM3 arcade model 2 source code. It's rare to see this title of port these days and due to the hard work of M2 and many of the original staff. This version includes numerous extra features, both arcade & Sega Saturn soundtracks, bonus modes, hidden characters and content not found in any other version of the game. If you are a Virtual On fan this is the must have version of the game. Full playthrough / longplay / trueplay as both the penalty boss Jaguarandi (ヤガランデ) and then one as the final boss Z-GRADT (ジグラット). Who is made playable in this PlayStation 2 port for the first time via his hidden mode. The version of Jaguarandi included in this port is even more powerful than the one featured in the Saturn version. For the Jaguarandi playthrough we also do battle with the new secret boss VR Unofficial. Which is the original VR.Fei-Yen unit who was supposed to have disappeared without a trace along with the original Raiden and Viper 1.
Z-GRADT is very limited to play as and only fights the eight main robots, as the player you can also choose to trigger his super cannon or not, making it very hard to lose as him. The camera is ideal and his movement is very restricted. Played in 480p and 496x384 resolution using the wide screen feature, however this set up runs in quite a small windowed compared to 480i mode. Bit of trivia for you it appears Z-GRADT name is a mistranslation of the Japanese name Ziggurat, which is the base of an ancient temple.
To unlock both Jaguarandi & Z-GRADT mode, highlight the “Credits” option on the main system menu and hold right for 5-10 seconds, until “Game Setting (Secret)” appears. Both virtuaroids can then be unlocked in the new option menu that has appeared, along with some other cool secrets.

I’m very confused that it exists, but I’m glad it does. Only a month ago I was lamenting the fact that there hasn’t been a new Virtual On in years, so I was extremely happy to hear the news. The gameplay seems to be a straight up Virtual On game, albeit with a very weird crossover with Index.
I don’t know anything about Index aside from what I’ve learned through cultural osmosis, so the crossover angle does nothing for me. All I know is there’s a guy that punches things, a guy who cheats physics and is ridiculously OP, a girl who shoots coins with her railgun hands, and a twintailed tsundere that tsuns a lot.

Though I do like the racing livery themed designs that they all have going on.
From what I’ve seen, the arenas look bigger than VOOT, and the Virtuaroids seem to move a bit smoother and faster as well. Unfortunately, I don’t have a PS4, so I can’t actually play it when it eventually comes out. What I am hoping though, is that it gets Virtual On back into the minds of players and eventually Sega puts out a proper sequel. Ideally multi-platform, so I could play it.
Speaking of things I can’t play, I was very surprised to find out about Gundam VS recently. It seems a lot like Virtual On. I’d really love to try it, but without a PS4 there’s not much I can do about that.

Sega Test Prep! Ever seen inside the cockpit of a Virtuaroid from Virtual-On? Inside of Temjin's, we can see that it takes inspiration from another piece of Sega's legacy: the amusement park Joypolis! The headset is based on the one used in Joypolis's VR-1 virtual reality ride.
