Dozens of people outside Winnipeg's Brady Road landfill have built barricades and are signalling their unwillingness to leave, despite a noon deadline from the city to vacate the area and the possibility of legal action.
Cambria Harris, whose mother's remains are believed to be in the Prairie Green landfill north of Winnipeg, is one of the people who called for the blockade to be erected and for others to join the demonstration at the Brady Road landfill.
The blockade of the city-run Brady Road landfill began Thursday after Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson said the province would not support a search of the privately owned Prairie Green Landfill north of the city, where the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran were believed to have been dumped last year.
"When you say you won't move forward with the search, you're telling my community that it's OK and that you condone the continuous dumping of Indigenous women," Harris said in an interview on Monday.
(…)
Harris's aunt, Melissa Robinson, said what's happening is not acceptable.
"We're talking about our women laying in landfills. You don't put a dollar on that — absolutely not. I don't care if it costs $200 million, $300 million, they need to go and get them. I'm not going to have my nieces go sit at a landfill to visit their mom for the rest of eternity. It's wrong."
(…)
Some members of the group of demonstrators at the dump moved to the Leaf — a conservatory in Assiniboine Park, where Manitoba's premier is hosting officials from seven provinces — on Monday afternoon.
Carrying drums and a megaphone, the people named missing women and chanted, "We are not trash," while demanding Stefanson reverse her decision.
After speeches were made by members of the group, they left peacefully.
The remains of Sue Caribou's niece, Tanya Nepinak, are believed to have been dumped at the Brady Road landfill in 2011, but none were found following a six-day search by police.
Caribou wants to see all landfills searched for the remains of missing Indigenous women.
"We want our loved ones home. We want closure," she said.
"No human being belongs in the trash."

5 Cases of Missing Indigenous Women in Canada
March 03, 2024
CARBON DOE
Tumblr media
Carbon Doe was found on April 21, 1995, in a ditch outside the village of Carbon, in Alberta, Canada. She was likely last seen alive between 1980 to 1985, it is estimated that she was there for 10-15 years before her remains were found.
It is believed she is of Indigenous descent.
She was between 5'0-5'4 in height, had multiple dental fillings, and is possible she had children.
The woman had brucellosis, which means she would have suffered from repeated fevers. This disease is not common in Canada. She is estimated to be between 22-35 years old. She had dental work done, including stainless steel crowns.
There was no clothing or personal items found with her body. Some believe Carbon Doe was not from Alberta, but might have just been travelling at the time of her death. It is possible she was never reported as missing.
Her cause of death has never been released, though many suspect she was murdered.
2. Annie Yassie
Tumblr media
Annie was born on July 27, 1960. Her family were members of the Sayisi Dene First Nation, located outside Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
The Dene Village was promised a lot from the government, but did not get any support, never receiving promised hunting and trapping supplies. They had to scavenge for food in the dump. What happened to these people in this village was named one of the worst crimes against Indigenous people in Canada.
Annie was extremely close to her sister, Eva. She loved to sew doll clothes and was a fan of the "hippie" look, often wearing denim outfits. Annie loved Christmas, and her sister Eva said she sometimes would sleepwalk, which Eva would watch her closely.
In 1973, Annie was sent to the Mackay Residential School in Dauphin, Manitoba, far from Dene Village. The Christian Church ran these residential schools, and they were mostly made to abuse and strip Indigenous children away from their culture.
At the time Annie disappeared she had returned from the residential school and was staying with her brother Fred.
On June 22, 1974, Annie was apparently out with a man who was about 10 years older than her. The two were drunk and had been celebrating Treaty Day. The taxi driver said the man had to drag Annie out of the car because she was passing out, and the taxi driver was asked to pick them up later. They were dropped off 3km outside of Churchill.
When the taxi returned, the driver said Annie was not there, only the man. The man was extremely drunk. Fred did not worry immediately when Annie did not return, as he knew she had said she wanted to visit her sister Eva at some point.
Eva showed up to Dene Village on June 26, 1974, discovering that everyone had assumed Annie had been with her the past 4 days, which was not true. Annie was officially reported missing that day.
The man Annie was last seen with was questioned, but he claimed he was too drunk and did not remember much. The case went cold. In 2014, they reopened Annie's file. In June 2016, Eva was asked to give a DNA sample. It took some time for police to get to Eva again, and it is unknown if DNA was actually taken.
Eva believes her sister was murdered by the man she was seen with that night, however that man is no longer alive.
Annie Yassie was 13 years old when she went missing. She was last seen wearing a blue denim jacket, a pair of blue denim jeans, brown shoes with a 3" heel. She was thin build, 5'4, weighing around 104 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
If anyone has info they are to contact the Cold Case Unit of the Winnipeg RCMP at 204-983-5461. If you would like to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
3. Caitlin Potts
Tumblr media
Caitlin was last heard from on February 22, 2016, through a Facebook message to her sister. She was 27 years old at the time, from the Sampson Cree First Nation. Caitlin was last seen by a witness in Enderby, British Columbia, Canada.
Caitlin was reported missing on March 1, 2016, however an official missing alert on the RCMP's website did not appear until March 21.
In June 2016, Caitlin's mother, Priscilla, contacted Indigenous groups in the province to help conduct a search for her daughter. Caitlin was in foster care until she was 11 years old.
Priscilla describes her daughter has happy as a child and extremely smart. Caitlin was born and raised in Alberta, however was living in B.C. at the time of her disappearance. Caitlin was living in Edmonton, Alberta with her younger sister, Codi, before recently moving to Enderby, B.C. where her boyfriend had moved.
Caitlin did not have the best relationship with her boyfriend and the two were on and off for about 2 months before she had disappeared. Codi claims Caitlin's boyfriend was physically abusive towards her and Caitlin would show up with bruises.
Codi said Caitlin's boyfriend had been arrested before and during that time Caitlin had stayed in a Salmon Arm women's shelter. Caitlin was doing good, going to school and working at Tim Horton's, however a few months later she went back to him.
Codi said Caitlin had texted her boyfriend the day she went missing and was upset over money he owed her. Caitlin also messaged Codi that she had found a ride to Calgary from Kijiji. Caitlin's roommate from the women's shelter had said Caitlin told her she met a stranger the night before.
Caitlin was seen by a witness in Enderby, and she had texted her sister that she was in Kelowna, B.C. before she disappeared.
Caitlin Potts was about 5'3, 150 pounds with brown eyes and long black hair with blonde streaks. Anyone who has info is to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or anonymously Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
4. Betsy Rosa Owens
Tumblr media
Betsy was born July 7, 1973. She was a member of the Pauingassi First Nation, in Manitoba, Canada, and was extremely close with her sisters, Caroline Owens and Valerie Leveque. Betsy loved swimming with her sisters in Fishing Lake.
Betsy was described as a nice girl, who would go out of her way to avoid trouble. She loved music, and at the time of her disappearance she loved the song "Manic Monday" by The Bangles.
On October 22, 1988, Betsy was going to attend a dance with her boyfriend. Betsy and her boyfriend left the dance around 11pm. The last time her boyfriend saw her was the next morning, October 23, when she left his house.
Community members searched for Betsy as soon as she was discovered as missing, however no one found anything. Law enforcement conducted searches in 1996 and 1997 and found nothing.
In 2013, Caroline provided samples of DNA in case Betsy's remains were ever found.
Many rumours have been spread throughout the community, with many members believing they know who was involved in Betsy's disappearance. Betsy's family is not happy with police, as they say they rarely visit Pauingassi First Nation, and should have made more of an effort.
The lead investigator believes Betsy was met with foul play, but there's not enough evidence to arrest anyone.
Betsy was 15 years old at the time of her disappearance. She was last seen wearing a white cotton hooded sweater, a blue denim jacket, blue denim jeans and white high top runners. She was slender built, 5'3 in height, and weighed 119 pounds. She has long black hair and brown eyes.
If Betsy was alive today she would be 50 years old, turning 51 in July 2024. If you have any info you can contact the Winnipeg detachment of the RCMP at 204-983-5461.
5. Tamara Lynn Chipman
Tumblr media
Tamara was from Moricetown Band, First Nation, now known as Witset, in British Columbia, Canada. She loved going on her dad's fishing boat and being outside. Tamara was described as lively and would not back down from a situation.
Tamara was 22 years old and the mother of a 2 year old son, when she went missing on September 21, 2005, near Prince Rupert, B.C. Being a young mother, it was said that Tamara began to hangout with the wrong crowd.
The people close to Tamara had speculated that she may be getting involved in drugs. In September 2005, Tamara had been in Prince Rupert, where her mother lived, for a few days without a car, as her car had broken down a few weeks earlier. Tamara was hitchhiking east, towards Terrace where her father lived.
In early November 2005, Tamara's father, Tom, realized no one had heard from his daughter and her rent had not been paid. Her bank account had also not been touched. Tom reported Tamara missing to the RCMP.
On November 15, 2005, an official search for her began. There was a claimed sighting of her in Vancouver, but no further evidence was found.
There was no named suspects but RCMP say they are pretty certain they know what happened. Two men and one woman have come forward claiming to have seen Tamara hitchhiking and picked her up. The woman said they were driving towards Terrace, when one of the men began arguing with Tamara and hit her, strangling her to death in the car.
They then pulled over in a remote area along the highway and dumped her body. The man who killed her returned to the area later to move and bury her body in the forest. The police searched this supposed area with the woman but Tamara's body was never home. The witness and two men have since died.
Tamara was last seen on an stretch of Highway 16, between Prince George and Prince Rupert, also known as the Highway of Tears, because many have disappeared from this highway.
Tamara's disappearance remains unsolved and no body has ever been found if the claims of her being murdered are true.

What about Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Portland, Seattle? Those all seem like good cities to live. Also New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. People who like Ohio are big fans of Columbus and Cleveland.
But tbh I currently live in a "city" in a state that borders the great Canadian province Manitoba so like everything seems like the cradle of civilization in comparison
Sorry for the long list lol, don't you think they have their charms?
im in new orleans right now 🤠 its been really nice to visit but i just cant imagine living here. i was born in atlanta so i love it but again its not a city like nyc is. not been to many of the others but im just not really a fan of this country tbh. and its kind of surprising that anyone would consider pittsburgh a desirable place to be lol

The Monkees with CFUN DJ's Terry David Mulligan and John Tanner in Vancouver, April 1, 1967.
“Regina: CKCK’s Terry David Mulligan claims to be the first Canadian air personality with an interview with the Monkees and he has a tape to prove it. Anyone wishing a copy can take Mulligan up on his boast by sending him a blank tape and he will return a dub to sender. Terry also did a 30 minute Christmas show with Peter Tork, his sister and brother. They sang cuts from the Monkees new LP (Mulligan sings too)[,] sang a few carols and just chit-chatted in a relaxing mood.” - RPM Canada, January 28, 1967 (this Christmas 1966 anecdote was previously posted here and more about Christmas 1967 here)
“History records that The Monkees played their first Canadian concert in Winnipeg on April 1/1967. What never gets mentioned is that the first time all four Monkees set foot on Canuck soil was many hours earlier, in Vancouver, while en route to Manitoba’s capital city. Top 50 radio station CFUN assigned two deejays—Terry David Mulligan and John Tanner—to meet Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork at Vancouver International Airport. A photo op ensued in a private waiting area as the lads waited, shortly after sunrise, to board a connecting flight. 'If you study that picture, you could tell two of the guys (Davy and Peter) were really into it and the other two (Micky and Mike) didn’t really want to be there,' recalls Mulligan (second from right in photo). 'They weren’t pissed off at us. They were just tired and weren’t particularly into having their picture taken that early in the morning.' Nevertheless, all six exchanged pleasantries. Despite the early hour, Davy Jones seemed friendly and 'Mike Nesmith was so whip smart, while Micky Dolenz had this interesting Hollywood vibe about him,' remembers Mulligan. Terry and Peter got the opportunity to renew acquaintances. The previous year, when Mulligan was spinning discs at CJME Regina, 'who should walk in but Peter Tork. Of course, I asked: "What are YOU doing here?" And Peter answered: "My dad (Halsten John Thorkelson) teaches at the University of Saskatchewan and I dig your radio program."' Peter would take a couple of additional breaks from Monkees commitments to visit his family. Each time, he’d visit Mulligan at CJME. 'We’d always have really good off-air chats, in between as I was playing records.' For his part, CFUN deejay John Tanner (second from left in photo) boarded the plane bound for Winnipeg with The Monkees. 'I remember being at the tail of the plane while The Monkees and their entourage were much further forward. I walked up there at one point and noticed some of them were sleeping. So I went back to my seat as I didn’t want to bother anyone.' Prior to the late afternoon Monkees concert at the Winnipeg Arena, Tanner said he killed some time walking 'what seemed to be the coldest streets in Winnipeg.' Indeed, band insider David Price would mention the frigid 17 degrees Fahrenheit daytime temperature when he subsequently wrote a four-page article titled My Life With The Monkees—That Wild Canadian Weekend for 16 magazine that detailed the April 1 concert in Winnipeg and the ensuing show in Toronto on April 2. Price, who also served as a decoy for Davy Jones (in addition to other band duties), claimed The Monkees came to Canada aware of rumours that attempts might be made on their lives during the two concerts. In the 16 magazine piece, Price wrote: 'Mike asked me and his friend Charlie Rockett and Mike’s wife Phyllis’s brother Bruce Barbour to make sure that any packages that landed onstage were thrown off again, because one of them might contain a bomb.' In the end, the only ‘bomb’ at the Winnipeg show was a water bomb hurled at Micky Dolenz atop the seven-foot high stage just before opening song Last Train To Clarksville. Seconds before, the four Monkees burst out of phoney amplifiers on either side of the stage, with the boys having hidden themselves within when the house lights were momentarily turned off. Likely backing up The Monkees onstage was Candy Store Prophets. If so, that band’s members—including guitarist Tommy Boyce and keyboardist Bobby Hart—had played on many early Monkees studio tracks that Boyce and Hart produced. Winnipeg-based Electric Jug & Blues band opened the show. Press reports later revealed that before the concert, rambunctious fans charged past about 30 police officers as the band left the Hotel Fort Garry for the arena. Monkees publicist Don Berrigan described the incident as a 'near riot' adding 'Mike and Davy were knocked down. It was really nasty.' There were apparently well over 400 police and security inside the arena. Perhaps it was the security concerns that resulted in Winnipeg and Toronto fans receiving slightly shorter concerts than about a dozen previous American shows in late 1966 and early ‘67—13-song setlists, three less than south of the border. The Winnipeg concert marked the first time Peter Tork-sung Your Auntie Grizelda, was played publicly. 'He really dug it, and so did the audience,' wrote Price. [...] Back in Winnipeg, after final song I’m A Believer, the band rushed to limos to return to the hotel, before taking an evening flight to Toronto. A subsequent Canadian Press article noted that one policeman was taken to hospital after a wire retaining fence collapsed on him when 'thousands of fans surged towards the rear exits in an unsuccessful bid to catch a glimpse of their departing idols.' The officer was treated for cuts and abrasions and released. The official capacity of Winnipeg Arena was 11,800. But Price claimed that several hundred additional tickets were sold just before showtime, resulting in an attendance closer to 12,500. Later that Saturday night, The Monkees checked out of the hotel and headed to the airport in what Price described as near-blizzard conditions. For his part, CFUN deejay John Tanner got a kick out of the 'wild and crazy' show he had just witnessed. 'It was kind of a thrill being there.' The photo taken back in Vancouver earlier that day would be published in the April 8 copy of the C-FUNTASTIC FIFTY survey given away at Greater Vancouver record stores. Part of the photo ID read 'They said it couldn’t be done' — likely a veiled reference to doubts that The Monkees would trek north for concerts so soon into their existence.” - Richard Skelly, Facebook, April 1, 2022 [x]

Hello! I am in the middle of a td hyperfixation, and my brain has chosen Mike and his system as The Precious, so I was super happy to see a blog producing content for my beloved. For a question, because I'd like to see another hc/idea, what do you think happened that landed their system in juvie?
Sorry if you've already discussed this somewhere!!
I think Mal was the host during this time, I think he wanted to be in juvie a bit just to get away from his parents but was mad that he couldn’t do whatever he wanted to do.
Mal got them landed in juvie in the first place. He was a very reckless petty criminal but got away with most bc he was good at manipulation, which he learned from trying to survive his abusive parents.
Then, one day Vito got into a pretty public fight with someone, Mal came out and resisted arrest too. Both Mal and Vito acted very rude in probation and broke the rules of it a lot. Mal leaning more towards petty theft and Vito towards picking fights. Obviously they found out, and he got sent to juvie.
They didn’t know they were a system before they had a court ordered psychiatrist visit them in juvie on account of staff noticing he has a “possible trauma disorder” because he was having PTSD episodes and switching a lot (it wasn’t as obvious, but his opinions and reactions kept rapidly changing).
I think Mike was scared out of his MIND!!!! He didn’t want to be there at all. He didn’t even feel like he deserved to be in there because he was following rules and doing what he needed to do, he didn’t know about Mal and Vito breaking rules at that time but once he found out he was even more confused and scared that he was having these blackouts. He thought he was secretly evil or something.
Mike actually fronted a lot in juvie. Mal used this to his advantage to gain people’s trust to get closer to them.
Mike doesn’t like the fact he was ever in juvie. He keeps it as a secret because he’s extremely conscious about his image. He feels like his mental problems and family issues are enough to drive people away, he doesn’t need more of a reason for people to leave him.
Manitoba wasn’t created yet, Chester was aware of everything and he complained about it all the time, and Svetlana was too scared to front.
Vito was annoyed to be in Juvie but he was very social in it, which was a good and bad thing. He met a lot of people he got along with, and a lot he didn’t. And Vito has a problem with anger and fighting, which got them a lot longer of a stay. He made quite a lot of friends despite that, none of which he ever saw again.
Mal wasn’t keen on making friends, he preferred to get to know people only so he could use them to do his bidding, get him things, and make living there easier for him. He used people for money a lot and stole from his “friends”. But he always kept buddy-buddy with them out of obligation.
He did find tormenting those who already didn’t like them fun. He had a lot of pent up aggression from dealing with abuse, and took it out on those around him. He would do just horrible shit that would intimidate anyone from messing w/ him.
Duncan was SCARED of him. He totally didn’t cross his path unless approached, which he was only really asked for money and supplies which he always gave them.
Mal was sooooo theatrical. Obviously, his signature whistle that he would do walking down the hall. He also did it when he was about to confront someone, so thats how people would know shit was about to go down.
People stayed away from Mike a lot because they knew what would happen if they didn’t. Mike was very lonely and he didn’t like Vito’s friends at all so he would try to avoid them. He just assumed they wanted something from him, he didn’t know they were already established friends with him.
A lot of people think Mal lost a tooth in a fistfight, but honestly I see it more as his parents never giving him dental care. (Image of baby eating sand with the caption I let him eat sand because I dont like him)
His parents called him in juvie, mostly to yell at him for being such a bad child and “ruining their family”. Mal didn’t let this bother him, but Mike took it hard and hated himself.
Mal never wanted to leave juvie, it was like a vacation from abuse. At Vito’s age the abuse towards him had already stopped but he was glad he didn’t have to see his abuser(s) on a regular basis.
When they were forced to get therapy, Mal told everything he knew in order to hopefully bring his parents to justice, but he only got a diagnosis out of it.

Children are an oppressed social class - the cruellest example in memory
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To summarize: 1. Utah Child Services finds that a dad had sexually abused two of his children (police declined to press charges, I can only wonder white- I mean why)
2. They mandate that all visits to the father must fully supervised
3. Father goes before a Utah judge and claims that the children's mother has "parentally alienated" him from the children. Parental alienation is a mental diagnosis that is not accepted by any credible institution, but, still finds success in American courtrooms and is the number one defence used by abusive family members
4. Judge orders that the children must be sent with the father on a 90 day trip to a rehabilitation facility, against the wishes of the children
5. Judge must know that the father is sexually abusive, because he also mandated that the children are to stay at relatives overnight and still not be allowed unsupervised time... yet still mandated that they go on a 90 day trip with him
6. Legitimately fearing for their lives, the children have physically barricaded themselves in a room in their mother's house. Police have been given authorization to use force to "retrieve them" but have surprisingly held back thus far
7. The judge made sure to criticize the mother for giving the barricaded children food, saying it was prolonging the suffering. I think starvation is worse, but what do I know, I'm not a white Morman minister who got my law degree from Brigham Young
Children are an oppressed class, probably the most consistently oppressed class in the world
They are constantly denied agency, denied individuality, and denied freedom from the government, from society, and often, from their own parents
Take this other horrendous case involving an actually great father
https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/vancouver-dad-wins-court-appeal-to-let-kids-ride-bus-alone
This dad did everything he could to teach his kids independence and give them agency, and, because of that, he was threatened with having custody of his kids taken and had to spend years in court and spend tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees just to get the court to admit that their rubrik of "No child under 14 can be left unsupervised for any length of time" is bullshit.
In Manitoba, a mother was given a permanent warning from child services for letting her kids play in the backyard while she watched from a window
In Ontario, btw? The minimum age where it's ok to leave kids not constantly supervised is SIXTEEN.
We created a system where children have no independence, have it taken away, and are now being increasingly used as just pawns in the ever increasing culture war against the "trans brainwashing agenda" but, that is a whole 137 other cans of worms
But, the method is always the same. Society, the government, parents, dont treat children as people, they're more seen as... future investments, how many times have you heard "I fed and clothed you so you better be grateful"
Children are an oppressed class, and things wont get better for them, or us, until enough of us acknowledge this and work to correct it.

not your founding father (mouthpiece)
My thoughts on Louis Riel being named first premier of Manitoba.
Taanshi kiyawow, Riel dishinikashoon. I descend maternally from seven Métis families from the historic Red River Settlement in Manitoba and Batoche, Saskatchewan. Notably, my Berthelett ancestors worked for the North West Company and were community leaders in the Métis settlement of Pointe a Grouette before it was systemically overtaken by French settlers who claim we formed no roots in the area (St. Onge). My Caron ancestors from Batoche fought in the North West Resistance alongside Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont. My fifth-great-uncle Jean Caron Sr. fought alongside his sons at the age of 52; his house still stands in Batoche to this day, where thousands of Métis make pilgrimages every year to remember the events of 1885.
What do you know about Louis Riel?
I can only read his words and imagine what guidance he would have provided had he lived longer than 41 years. Or imagine myself in his place as he walked to the gallows on November 16th, 1885. As a child when I visited Manitoba my grandpa and my kokum would take me to visit his grave, just as they did with my mother, who named me ‘Riel’.
We are inextricably linked through time and across our homelands. What’s in a name? Unasked for? Not yet earned? I do not yet know who I am to my people but I carry an important name and the trickster’s spirit, and with these comes the responsibility of understanding and revealing cultural and societal truths (Stimson).
I am still growing into my name
Today I am a mouthpiece
An interpreter of the past
What do you know about the trial of Louis Riel?
July 31st, 1885, Riel gives his final speech. Historical weather data shows that it was a hot day in Regina. Cooler than the days before but still hot with the swelter of the plains. He spoke long, in English, not the language of his birth.
“The day of my birth I was helpless and my mother took care of me although she was not able to do it alone; there was someone to help her to take care of me and I lived. Today, although a man, I am as helpless before this court, in the Dominion of Canada and in this world, as I was helpless on the knees of my mother the day of my birth. The Northwest is also my mother; it is my mother country and although my mother country is sick and confirmed in a certain way, there are some from Lower Canada who came to help her to take care of me during her sickness and I am sure that my mother country will not kill me more than my mother did forty years ago when I came into the world, because a mother is always a mother, and even if I have my faults, if she can see I am true, she will be full of love for me.”
“When I came into the Northwest in July, the 1st of July 1884, I found the Indians suffering. I found the half-breeds eating the rotten pork of the Hudson Bay Company and getting sick and weak every day. Although a half-breed, and having no pretension to help the whites, I also paid attention to them. [...] We have made petitions, I have made petitions with others to the Canadian government asking to relieve the condition of this country.”
“We have taken time; we have tried to unite all classes, even may speak, all parties.”
“During my life I have aimed at practical results. I have writings, and after my death I hope that my spirit will bring practical results.”
“When we sent petitions to the Government, they used to answer us by sending police [...] There are papers which the Crown has in its hands, and which show that demoralisation exists among the police, if you will allow me to say it in the court, as I have said it in writing.”
“If I am blessed without measure I can see something into the future, we all see into the future more or less.”
“The only things I would like to call your attention to before you retire to deliberate are:
1st That the House of Commons, Senate and Ministers of the Dominion, and who make laws for this land and govern it, are no representation whatever of the people of the North-West.
2nd That the North-West Council generated by the Federal Government has the great defect of its parent.
3rd The number of members elected for the Council by the people make it only a sham representative legislature and no representative government at all.”
“I have never had any pay. It has always been my hope to have a fair living one day. It will be for you to pronounce - if you say I was right, you can conscientiously acquit me, as I hope through the help of God you will. You will console those who have been fifteen years around me only partaking in my sufferings. What you will do in justice to me, in justice to my family, in justice to my friends, in justice to the North-West, will be rendered a hundred times to you in this world, and to use a sacred expression, life everlasting in the other.”
What do you know about Louis Riel?
I have done this walk in my mind so many times that I have lost count. Historical accounts of the day note that it was a chill, clear, autumn morning. The prairies stretched out, silver frost bathed in sunlight. He faced it all and was brave until the end. Despite reports of it being destroyed, former premier of Manitoba Duff Roblin and his family, and the RCMP gloat over the supposed fragments of the rope that hanged the traitor, and I wonder how long the rope would be if you lined up every single scrap of twine rumoured to be the noose that killed Riel?
Does it make you feel less guilty to call him a founding father? Canadians are only able to remember him through his murder and not through his words that can still animate his presence. Written words and objects once owned are ghosts, extensions of our bodies and spirits. When I read his letters and journals I see the urgency in his penmanship, and I think about the sweat and invisible oils of his skin becoming a part of each page as he wrote and wrote and wrote. I wonder where each journal travelled with him during his exile, and why he chose each book. There is one with an illustration of a guardian angel watching over two children, and I wonder if he thought of himself as one of them being shepherded through life by his ancestors.
Canadians argue about whether or not Riel should have been hanged instead of talking about what he had believed and said and accomplished, and what he wanted to do with the rest of his life had it not been cut short.
No one talks about his dreams or his fears, and he did not live long enough to answer the question of if he would have wanted to be revered as the first premier of Manitoba. Or, in response would he ask for clean water for all, to stop the sweeps, and starlight tours? Would he ask for the Winnipeg police to search the landfills for our murdered women instead of brutalizing and killing us? Would he call for an end to all colonialism and genocide? Or would he simply ask for a place to smudge and be in peace for a while?
When we send petitions to the government they still answer us by sending the police, before turning around and calling Louis Riel a founding father (Riel).
Canada cannot answer these questions for him by giving him that title posthumously, only sit with the discomfort of blood-soaked hands, and wonder how different things would have been had that sacred fire not been snuffed out in 1885.
I cannot answer these questions for him either
And I am still growing into our name.

can you do part 2 to the Kenny omega Babies piece where the Reader is watching one of Kenny Aew match or at an Aew paper view in person or is either at Reader and Kenny Home in NORTH CARRROLLINNNAAAA. And the reader ends up going into Labor but Kenny ends up making it to see either his Baby boy or Baby Girl born and the golden elite come to visit after the baby is born?
Babies Part 3
Main Masterlist Kenny Omega Masterlist
Part 1 Part 2 Part 4
Summary: Your ringside for The Elite VS JAS VS HOB for the trios titles in Winnipeg when you go into Labor.
Word count: 1565
Tumblr media
Just about everyone advised me not to go to Winnipeg for Dynamite due to the fact that there was a really high possibility that I could go into labor during the show. Being the stubborn person I am, I refused and was determined to be there. I was so angry that I couldn't make it to AEW’s first ever show in Canada nonetheless in my home town of Toronto because of the whole suspension thing. Even though I was not suspended it was recommended that I also stay away for a while. Now we are in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, and I am so excited to be a part of the show, even if it is just me being ringside for the boys match.
I was sitting in hair and makeup getting ready for the show when Shannon, one of the costume designers approached me.
“Hey Mama, how’s it going” Shannon said excitedly as she approached me
“Hi Shan, I’m doing alright for the most part. I feel huge” I said pointing down to my baby bump
“Hey now, don’t be so mean to bumpy. I can’t wait to meet that little girl. You and Kenny are going to be great parents!”
“Oh yeah? I’m not too sure about that one. She could come any day and I’m literally terrified. I can hardly take care of myself let alone a little human baby!”
“Please Y/N, You will be a great mother. I see how you treat the young talent here. You are like a second mother to them”
“That’s different, yes they are my babies but they are 18 to early 20s. That is a big difference to a newborn child! Before you  cut me off, yes I know that I treat AEW as my baby but it is my baby. You have been here since day one girl. You know I would do absolutely anything for this company. You remember how hard it was in the beginning!”
“I remember very well Y/N! But that is not why I’m here. I came here to give this to you” Shannon said as she handed me a gift bag with tissue paper sticking out of the top
When I opened the gift I was shocked to see a matching set of ring gear to the ones the boys would be wearing tonight
“Shan!!! You shouldn't have!”
“Yes I should, do you like it?”
“I love it!!! The real question is, is it going to fit me?”
“It should fit, If not I can make a quick fix if needed. I thought you would like something cute to wear tonight!” Shannon said with the largest smile on her face!
“Thank you so much, you have no idea what this means to me!”
XXX
When I put on the gear I was shocked to see that it fit like a glove. The white and silver bodysuit hugged my curves perfectly, surprisingly making my baby bump look flattering.  The matching Jacket put the whole outfit together perfectly although I did swap out the boots for my Dior Jordans. No way was my swollen ankles were  going to get into the boots.
Once I was all ready I headed over to the Elite locker room to show Tyson and The Bucks my new outfit.
*knock knock knock*
“Come in!” Nick yelled through the door
When I opened the door I was greated by Tyson, Hangman and both Matt and Nick!
“Hi, everyone!” I said
“Jesus christ Y/N!!!” Kenny said, almost in disbelief
“Do you like it?” I asked
“Like it, I love it!!! How did you get this?”
“Shannon surprised me with it!”
“Of course she did” Matt said, interrupting our conversation “She’s the best isn’t she Y/n!”
“She really is Matt! How is everyone feeling? Ready for tonight?” I asked felling a bit of tension in the room
“Yeah, we are great! I’m honestly just a bit nervous” Kenny admitted
After being friends for 14 years and together for the past 10 I knew by now that Kenny does not get nervous EVER. Not even when main eventing the tokyo dome. To him that was just another match. So I knew that although Kenny might not be nervous Tyson was. It was strange, normally he was Kenny Omega 24/7, and only few were granted the wish to use his government name but I could see that I wasn’t talking to Kenny Omega, this was Tyson Smith.
XXX
A couple of hours have passed and it’s now time for the main event!
The Elite Consisting of Kenny, Nick and Matt VS the team of the house of black consisting of Malachi Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews VS The Jericho Appreciation Society consisting of Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia. A match for the trios titles that The Elite had just lost a few weeks ago to HOB at revolution.
I was waiting backstage for the cue to make our entrance to Carry on Wayward son when I was greeted with a worried Tyson. That is when I figured out just why he was so nervous.
“I really don’t think this is a good idea Y/N” Kenny said nervously pacing around the small area
“What’s not a good idea?” I said, unsure just what he was referring to
“You being ringside for this match!”
“Why not? Everyone knows that I'm pregnant and will be careful not to run into me. Plus I can look out for myself. I will be fine, I think you forgot I am also a wrestler.”
“No it’s not that”
“What? It’s not I will go into labor during the match” I said
Tyson said nothing he just gave me that look
“I will be fine, promise, ok?”
“Alright, I love you Y/N”
“I love you too Tyson”
XXX
The match was going great, The pop from the crowd when I made the surprise appearance with the Elite almost made me cry. I feel like they were almost more excited to see me than the boys. I did my usual interference and interactions with the crowd when I felt an abnormally hard kick to my stomach. Then I felt it, hot liquid running down my legs. I looked over to Brandon Cutler who was also ringside, filming for BTE when I whispered “I think my water just broke”
I looked down to see the pool of fluid on the ground and when I looked up I made eye contact with Kenny who looked like he saw a ghost.
I heard some people in the crowd gasp when it happened, almost everyone in the ring having the same reaction as Kenny. Thankfully Kenny wasn’t in the match when it happened so I was able to tell him that I was ok and that I would stay ringside until the match was over. And boy did those 20 minutes feel like the longest 20 minutes of my life.
Once the match was finished I went to the backstage doctors who told me I should go to the hospital since I was in active labor. Me being the stubborn person I am, I refused. I wanted to stay until they taped rampage, since The Elite was booked to have a little speech after the taping to thank the crowd and have a little celebration For Kenny and Jericho. Tony Khan told me to forget about it and that I should really go to the hospital. I was getting tired of everyone telling me that but I was determined to stay. “If I have this baby backstage then I have it backstage!” I told a frustrated Kenny Omega. “ I am staying, end of story”
Somehow I managed to make it through an extra 3 hours before we finally made it to the hospital. The celebration went well and in between some pretty nasty contractions I let the crowd know that I did indeed go into labor during the match!
When I arrived at the hospital I was not alone. Tyson, Matt, Nick, Hangman, Adam Cole, Britt Baker and Matt’s wife Dana insisted on coming with us. Although it was weird at first I didn’t mind having my best friends with me. Although it was a bit of a sticky situation having this baby in Winnipeg it wasn’t all that bad. Kenny and I had a house in Toronto which was only about 2 and a half hrs by plane and due to the fact we would have an infant it would take around 20-24 hrs to drive. Kenny and I also both had family that lived in Winnipeg including Kenny’s parents who were kind enough to let us stay with them for a bit before we could get back home.
I ended up having a natural birth due to my fear of needles and it was probably the worst decision I made in my life. The amount of pain I was in was insane but in the end it would be worth it. Tyson was scared, understandable so and so was I.
Tyson, Britt and Dana were all there with me when I gave birth to my daughter. Tyson and I decided on the name Violet for our baby girl. She was the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen in my life. To make things better I was surrounded by my best friends.

i went back to my parents house with them after, and saturday night my mom had a "girls night" party lol. my great aunt was there, and one of my moms longtime high school friends. it was such a fun night.
sunday was really fun too! my bf came over in the morning and we spent the afternoon at my grandparents house with a bunch of family. i got to see both of my uncles who i haven't seen in 7 freaking years because of stupid family drama. i had a lengthy conversation with one of them in the kitchen about tattoos which was nice, he lives in the same city as me so we were discussing different tattoo shops lol.. he's covered in tattoos and told me "welcome to the club, they're addicting" 😅 anyway, overall it was just such a nice weekend!

Blog 1: Current Relationship with Nature
Hey everyone! I'm currently attending my fourth year at the University of Guelph. I am majoring in Environmental Sciences and minoring in Ecology, and I've loved every minute of it. I am also a co-op student which has allowed me to work in multiple different environments and positions, majority of which have involved a large amount of field work.
In regards to the prompt for this week's post, I've always greatly enjoyed being outdoors and immersed in nature. From camping and hiking in the summer months to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter alongside my family, nature has always been a major part of my life. I've always had a strong passion for the environmental sciences, which is why I decided to pursue it in my post-secondary education. I think a lot of this passion was strongly tied to how often my family involved me in the outdoor activities I mentioned above, and I think it helped to gain an appreciation for nature that I feel many people nowadays do not have.
My first big camping trip was when I was 10 months old where my parents and I visited 4 Ontario provincial parks along our long road trip to Thunder Bay. These included Craigleigh, Windy Lake, Agawa Bay (aka. Lake Superior Provincial Park), and Kakabecka falls. Since then, I have visited and camped at 28 Ontario provincial parks, and 4 national parks in Canada. Of these, my favourites have been Algonquin Park, Bruce Peninsula National Park, Grundy Lake, and Grasslands National Park (SK). It's safe to say that camping is a big part of my life and it has also had a major role in shaping my current relationship with nature. I have greatly enjoyed partaking in hikes and kayaking trips across the lakes during these, and it's always such a breathtaking experience (literally and figuratively). I love the views that the hikes provide, and I always spend a long amount of time taking everything in, and how beautiful nature can be. Often, the views can make you feel small, which is very humbling experience that makes you appreciate nature and, in my experience, creates a sense of responsibility to protect it. My many kayaking trips have provided similar experiences, and I love the many different plants and animals I encounter on these journeys.
Throughout my co-op experiences, I have been able to pursue a position that with a large focus on field work. My favourite has been this past summer which I spent in Indian Head, Saskatchewan working with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in their Agroecosystems section. Saskatchewan was one of the best experiences of my entire life, and I am so grateful to the people who made the trip, and the job, possible. While I was out there, I got to know the 6 other students I was working with and formed strong bonds with them which I will always cherish. I also had the opportunity to explore this province through my field work as well as outside this work and was able to appreciate the different geography and flaura and fauna of the area. It was during the trip out to my placement that allowed me to finally achieve my goal of visiting all 10 provinces of Canada as my last three I needed to visit were Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. I was able to take some time off during my work term to visit Jasper, Alberta, and it was such a beautiful and almost otherworldly experience seeing and experiencing the quiet of the mountains. On my journey back to Ontario, I was also able to stop by Lake Michigan to complete my other goal of visiting all 5 Great Lakes. My next goal is to visit all 3 Territories. Overall, this past summer was one of my favourites, and it deepened my already strong relationship to/appreciation for nature, and I would highly recommend and encourage similar experiences of other people, especially co-op students.
I could likely fill a whole book an my relationship with nature, most of which would consist of my favourite stories and memories of my "adventures", but this post is getting a little long (lol). To answer the question "who offered me 'a sense of place'," I would say my parents who allowed me to visit the many places I have been to. I have so much love and appreciation for both my parents and the experiences they provided for me, and I hope that one day I can do the same for my children. Without them and their passion for camping and exploring what all of Canada has to offer, I would likely not have developed the appreciation for nature that I currently have. Overall, my main takeaway message from this would be that being out and present with nature is an important part of a persons' life, and I strongly advocate for more people to allow themselves time to take a walk in the woods, or even just a regular hiking/walking trail in their city to be able to be present and appreciate nature.
Enjoy some photos I've taken of my travels this summer below :)

On this day:
VILLAGES VANISH
On August 18, 1590, governor John White and his company, arriving in North America from England with supplies for the settlement on Roanoke Island, searched in vain for the colony of over one hundred people. Three years earlier White had left behind his wife, daughter, and son-in-law, plus his newly born granddaughter, Virginia Dare, to return to the motherland for replenishments. If the settlers had to change locations while he was gone, they were to have left an obvious sign of where they were going and put a cross beside the sign if there had been danger involved.
Unfortunately, England's war with the Spanish had delayed White's return, and now all the governor found on the island was an abandoned fortress. White discovered the settlers' heavy implements hidden by overgrown grass inside the palisade, and no sign of their boat. A large tree beside the fortress entrance had been stripped of bark and in capital letters the word Croatoan was carved. A second tree near the water carried the letters cro. White intended to check Croatoan Island, fifty miles to the south, but the weather turned bad. His company's privateer broke anchor, drifted out to sea, and forced them to go back to England. None of the 117 Roanoke Island colonists were ever seen or heard of again.
In 1930, Joe LaBelle, a French-Canadian roving trapper, went to visit his northern friends at Lake Angikuni, five hundred miles northwest of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police base at Churchill, Manitoba. LaBelle felt a growing unease as he approached the little village of caribou skin tents, and no dogs barked at his arrival. Food, clothing, kayaks, and rifles lay about as if abandoned in mid-activity. Checking the area surrounding the deserted camp, LaBelle discovered seven dogs dead from starvation, and a cairn grave, which had been neatly emptied. For reasons unknown the twenty-five inhabitants had abandoned their homes.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba government is putting up close to $900,000 to set up the province's first Indigenous-led Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine clinic.
There are already six such clinics, which provide assessments, counselling, medication and referrals to treatment programs.
The government says the new Indigenous-led one will open in the spring in central Winnipeg and will offer culturally relevant programming.
The clinic will be open five days a week, have a mobile outreach vehicle and provide up to 2,300 patient visits per year.
The clinic will be run by the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre, which says the staff will be largely Indigenous and will have experience in helping people with addiction.
Monica Cyr, the centre's director of research, says the rapid-access clinic will be a big help.
"We believe compassion, empathy and anti-racist care is how community members attain their personal best," she said Tuesday.

WEEKLY TAG WEDNESDAY
thanks for the tag @energievie! (also sorry everyone, looks like I've overshared on the tag game again... lmao)
Name: c h a n i
Age: thirty one.
Location: Winterpeg, Manitoba
And now, think about your childhood and tell me:
Did you have a nickname and is it still used? chani is a nickname technically. But I've been called it more than my legal name. Other than that no nicknames have ever really stuck.
What did you want to be when you'd grow up? As a kid i always said "artist or vet". But neither panned out. lol When I was a bit older I just wanted to do something in the medical field. (hopefully there's still time to make that happen)
Your favourite cartoon: Arthur. My Arthur obsession has never left me. lolol
Your favourite TV show: Will & Grace was my favourite tv show as a kid. I know. I have two young kids and I can't imagine either of them sitting through an episode, let alone choosing to watch it. Hahaha
Your favourite book: James Herriot's Treasury for Children. I used to pour over the illustrations and imagine I was a country vet. (My favourite was the one with the two retired draft horses)
Your favourite toy: I looooooved baby dolls. Any kind. Although I had a special fondness for those Ty Beanie Kids.
Your favourite thing to eat: pork ribs and french toast.
Your favourite school subject: Art class. I think it was always the only class I received praise from teachers.
How did you spend your summers? My grandparents retired to their cottage in the Muskokas and my sister and I would visit them for weeks in the summer. We also went every August to my parent's friend's cottage, also in the Muskokas. Or horse camp. My childhood summers were such a haven away from my shitty usual homelife.
Did you listen to music? If yes, did you have a favourite band/artist? Ohhhh yeah. My friends and I would make up dances to spice girls, aqua, avril lavigne, and pink! I was also obsessed with the Shrek soundtrack cd.
And lastly, tell me something you did as a kid that your parents still don't know about: Lol I had neglectful parents. I don't think they know about anything I did. lmao.
I'll tag @deedala @michellemisfit @too-schoolforcool @heymacy @heymrspatel @gardenerian @crossmydna @callivich @juliakayyy @mickeysgaymom @creepkinginc @stocious @sam-loves-seb @mybrainismelted @gallawitchxx @palepinkgoat @thepupperino
