Given our love of weird and unusual museums, we had to check it out. The @phallusmuseum in Reykjavik, is the world' only genuine penis museum, containing the world's largest collection of biological phalluses. Street Art – Reykjavik’s Rainbow Street

During 3rd to 8th August, there is an annual LGBT festival, Reykjavik Pride, held in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, and part of the Skólavörðustígur Street, one of Reykjavik’s central street, was painted in rainbow to be a part of the Reykjavik Pride program in 2015. Although the Rainbow Street, as a temporary project, could only be kept until the end of the summer in 2015, yet it became a permanent street art in 2019.

As a project of Gay Pride, the Rainbow Street visually promote the publicity of the existence of LGBT community. This street art was not created by one person. Residents participated in the painting work actively. According to BBC News (2015), there were many children took part in the painting activity, and the Mayor of Reykjavik, Dagur Eggertsson, also contributed his effort on painting yellow section. Eggertsson thought the painting activity was “more powerful, stronger and more beautiful than I had dreamed of”. He also declared “This is how we made our city livelier, more humane and a better place” on his Facebook. The making process of the Rainbow Street, the importance of the Skólavörðustígur Street as well as the decision to make this street art a permanent project presented the overall attitude towards LGBT in Iceland is truly friendly.

Today, the Rainbow Street is not only a normal project of Reykjavik Pride. As it became permanent, it also marks a victory point of the LGBT struggle in Iceland. If there is a chance to visit Reykjavik, the Rainbow Street should be a place to visit. Walking on the Rainbow Street and feeling the celebration of LGBT.
