depends on the situation as i love many colours!! blue or purple but i'm picky about shades (e.g. i have a strong dislike for intl klein blue...reminds me too much of blue screen of death)

vet bc i like animals but thankfully i moved past it (i genuinely think becoming a vet is more difficult than becoming a dr. also the mental toll is extreme)

VITASOY MY BELOVED!!!!! i love their plain ones the most ngl... im SUCH a slut for soy milk (and soy products in general. but esp soy milk. my family always gets me fresh pressed soy milk in little baggies when we visit vietnam despite most of them not caring for it bc they know how much i love soy milk 😭🤡) and vitasoy is soo good..... i hate that i cant get it here except for specialty shops and/or overpriced in asian grocery stores 😭😭😭

Was really excited to see a Japanese-brand oat milk—however!!!!! This is oat milk PLUS fruit and vegetable juice! I gotta learn to read labels more closely...

The fruity element makes it taste kinda like a flavored VitaSoy drink, which is something I like, buuut most of the reason I’m willing to buy oat milk when it’s so much pricier than soy is because it doesn’t taste weird in coffee! And I’m not going to put carrot juice in my coffee. But I would recommend this for just drinking or maybe for granola!

Pero last week nag-order ako ng Mothers' Day promo ng Yummza Hummus, inadd ko na rin lahat ng add-on tulad ng falafel, inabot ako ng ₱1,005 (free shipping daw pag T-Th-S). Masarap naman sa akin. Mahal nga lang. Amfunny nga kasi may chat history kami, January 2022. Ang mura pa ng mga tinda nila noon pero hula ko hindi ako bumili kasi namamahalan ako. Kuripot pero choosy. 😭

This week nag-order ako ng Mothers' Day special ni Kusinerong Negro. ₱1,130 + delivery fee. 'Yung cake yata ang nagpamahal eh. Pero mukha namang masarap 'yung biryani nila. Malalaman ko sa Friday. Tray size naman 'yan. 😂

Sinave ko na 'yung menu ng Kusina ni Grasya para sa 3rd week of May na lang ako bibili ng low-carb meals nila.

Sweldo at savings ko na lang talaga ang hindi maka-keep up sa 2023.

Economics of Dairy and Plant Milk: Does It Add Up?

The rising presence of plant-based milk as a substitute for dairy milk is a fascinating intersection of economic ideas, historical events, and market dynamics. Historically, whole milk was the standardized preference until Dr. Lo, founder of VitaSoy, popularized plant-based milk during the 1930s in response to malnutrition in Hong Kong. (As someone with Hong Kong heritage, this fun fact amazed me!) This innovation sparked a new industry for plant milk. 

However, early challenges arose as the dairy industry pressured for regulations preventing terms like soy milk, almond milk, and oat milk, arguing they mislead consumers and violated the legal definition of milk. This ongoing issue highlights market competition, with the dairy industry perceiving plant milk as undermining their market share. 

On a more personal note, I tend to order my coffees or boba drinks with oat milk or plant-based milk if I can because of lactose intolerance. Recently I’ve noticed a number of cafes and boba shops charging for $0.50-$1 for the substitute and this is okay every once in a while. For me to substitute the whole milk to plant milk, it is a weak preference because if it is offered to me free of charge, I would gladly take it. But occasionally, the additional charge to an already pricey drink would deter me from substituting the whole milk because, factoring in the $0.75 topping and the $5-6 base price of the drink, my sweet treat turns out to be $7~8 instead of the expected $4~5. 

Plant-based milk serves as a private good, with exclusivity in distribution channels, and as a substitute good, offering an alternative to dairy milk. In reality, most plant milks have a longer shelf life  and only cost a couple cents more per gallon. Yet despite the rising number of people preferring plant based milk over whole milk, cafes still charge 10-20% more for plant milk vs whole milk.

Now what can I do to save more money and drink more sweet treats?

As a broke college student, one of the first things I did was sign up for CalFresh or EBT to see if I am eligible to receive anything. EBT acts as a stimulus given by the government to subsidize the costs of fresh foods, which is critical with the inflation today. Currently, I receive around $291 each month for groceries. With this, I regularly buy oatmilk and instant coffee to prepare at home and hopefully, encourage me to lower the quantity of coffees and matcha lattes I have outside. 

But boba is hard to make at home, so the only times I would have boba is outside. 

I can also start by setting a constraint.

I would like to limit the amount of money I spend on drinks to roughly, $8/ week. So this give us a $32 budget for drinks. 

Drinks, roughly cost $5~6 dollars alone and with whole milk. Now if I want so substitute oat milk or an alternative, it will be an additional $0.50~1.50. And if I chose anything with a topping like boba, many places charge for these drinks so I’ll add an additional $0.50 to these drinks.

 So we’ll do two scenarios:

where I am not lactose intolerant and take the drink with regular whole milk; both drink options will have the whole milk price

Where I am lactose intolerant and need a milk alternative; both drink options will have the plant milk price

Budget Constraint: $32

Price of Coffee (Whole Milk): $6.00

Price of Coffee (Plant Milk): $7.00

Price of Boba (Whole Milk): $6.50

Price of Boba (Plant Milk): $7.50

Now as we apply the indifference curve, which should show all of the potential baskets that will provide me with the same amount of satisfaction. The curve is tangent to the budget constraint and indicates the point of highest utility in quantities of coffee and boba. 

Qcoffee = 2.22

Qboba = 2.214

Qcoffee = 2.4

Qboba = 2.733

Observing where the budget constraint meets the indifference curve for each graph, there is not as great of a difference as both indicate that, in order for me to be economically rational and stay within the declared budget, I could only order 2 coffees and 2 bobas maximum within a month. (Although the intersection points indicate values greater than 2, I am observing the integer values because you cannot have 0.4 of a coffee.)

Ultimately, this attempt to distinguish what I can do to save money has shown me that there is no substantial difference between ordering the milk substitute as long as I stay within the quantity constrained to the budget. Although I would eventually like to see the price of plant-based milk play on an equal level to the price of dairy milk, it is fascinating to see how great of an effect a new competitor can have on a market who still debates whether they belong and it is reassuring to know that I don’t have to give up oat milk and sacrifice my lactose intolerance.

For people or my angels who are here everytime I'm writing in my journal or venting-out on any angels that I have here... Why, Coach John of Iqor was mean to me, I posted his behaviour on me... He was nice and a good coach on a professional level but there were moments that he was intentionally or indirectly damaging me in the work. Coach John way of doing it was not really easily be seen or not visible in our naked eyes.

Whew! Before going out of our training room Coach Sho said "God Bless You" which is a phrase of "Born Again Christian"... I just said "God Bless You" as well... I also said goodnight and see you tomorrow...
