I personally don’t exactly understand why everyone is feeling pessimistic about how the campaign will be wrapped up, because we haven’t even been able to see the aftermath of the conversation with the Arch Heart.

We saw the reactions while they were talking, sure, but we haven’t seen any /actual/ nuanced discussion take place; something the BH /are/ capable of doing when they actually, you know, go out of their way to bring it up.

My optimism may be at fault for this, perhaps, and I am in no way saying that people should not feel disappointed with having another wrench get thrown into the mix. Even I feel some slight frustration. However, I am also trying to keep in mind the fact that the BH haven’t been allowed to process anything from that conversation yet.

Tldr; Maybe I’m too hopeful for the future, but I also trust that this group won’t release a god eating monster after weeks of discussion. Dorian and Ashton may agree, but one of them has not had the opportunity to process and cope in a healthy way and the other holds a deep resentment towards the gods for ignoring them.

I say this with all the love in the world for Ashton, but of course they were gonna take the shard and ignore the warnings. He does believe in fate- he doesn’t believe fate applies to HIM. This is someone who has repeatedly been through things that should have killed them and they didn’t. What didn’t kill them made them more powerful- both the earth shard and dunamis came with their own consequences but it made them stronger and that’s the lesson Ashton has carried in them and discovered.

Ashton is a superiority and inferiority complex blended together. If he dies taking the shard, oh well, he won’t suffer the consequences- the Hells will, everyone who loves them will. If he succeeds, he’s going to hold unimaginable power and be even more of a rock-solid support to his team (pun intended).

So Ashton makes Fearne promise she won’t stop him, he makes her promise she will call for help if he needs it, and they take the shard and put their trust in the people around them. They go through one minute of ancient power trying to sunder their very being, they feel their arm fall off, they are blown to smithereens before reforming, and they hold on until they wake up moments later with a magma arm. But none of those things matter, because his friends were there, his friends were healing him, the ring on his finger from Deanna brought him back to life from certain death.

There are consequences to your actions. No reward without the risk, right? And sometimes it pays off, sometimes you pay a steep price, you bet on 00 and you win, and you think you made the right choice. Until you look up at the people who watched you shatter in front of their eyes, the same people who healed you that also tried to stop what was happening, the same people who believed in the risk and would have rightfully fought you had you had the spine to tell them your crazy plan that was doomed from the start.

Sometimes inevitable probability is the consequence of your actions. Sometimes the consequences are the friends you made along the way.

remember during vox machina days when they would have ashley skype in for the sessions and the feed would lag and freeze and crash and even when it was working it was just her tiny blurry face on a laptop screen on the table trying her absolute best to be engaged and present for the story despite the distance. and now she gets to be there :’) everyday :’) with her friends :’’’’’’’’)

Scott hurts his back shortly before Skate Canada 2013

narratively this show is a mess lol Tessa and Scott are walking the parking lot and around the drives outside of Arctic Edge and talking, and it’s so contrived - he's been injured and away, but they're randomly going on a walk with the camera crew? i think she's sincere in what she's saying, but it feels semi-scripted - she even says she’s repeating things she’s said to him off-camera about helping out 😅

T: i missed - like, i mean i know it was only two days, but i missed you

S: (laughs) two days - two days!

T: - missed skating with you. i don't want you to be hurt, but maybe it was a good for us to have a little distraction [huh? good to be distracted by him being injured?]

S: [unconvincingly] yeah, it's never a bad thing, right?

he sounds much more convincing when he says in a talking head: (through gritted teeth) "i don't WANNA be hurt. i just want to be healthy"

then he's in London working out at RevCon with Maria Mountain, doing exercises that require a lot of strength and balance with beautiful form - so we think he's better now, right? well, no- S: (VO) "you know in a way i feel like i'm letting down Tessa"

because next Tessa is skating alone in Canton - so when was that walk and talk? he came to the rink and left again?

Tessa says she's not used to skating without him and that she sees perfection in what Meryl and Charlie do-

T: we came 2nd at the World Championships last year, and i lose sleep all the time just thinking about that

this kind of obsession, the never giving an inch, wanting to win so badly she's losing sleep -probably fueled them to be as great as they were. i wonder if anyone besides the two of them know exactly what this was like for them all those years, and i wonder what it's like now to not have this driving them any more

My biggest problem with campaign three is that while I do love Bell's Hells, I never clicked with them the way I did with Vox Machina and the Mighy Nein. But with the campaign being so large scale and connecting with so many pieces of both of the previous campaigns I find myself continuously wishing that we'd see the whole thing from the other parties perspective. Like I'm vibrating in my seat in the interrogation scene with Astrid and Essek but I would find it so much more interesting and engaging if it were the M9 in that room.

Can I just say that it’s been months since the laudna resurrection arch and I am still a true resurrection laudna truther….

And now we’re days away from the biggest fight in the campaign so far, we’re all pretty sure that there’s going to be some big deaths happening and keyleth’s going to be right there… it’s all feeling a bit too familiar. The implications of it all…
