cobalt sludge - watercolor, prepped for display in VRC
I dispose of cobalt water into a houseplant, but there's always some that remains in the bottom of the cup. I love the colors that settle out, they remind me of eggshells.
The fake matte boards aren't subtle in the shading (inner shadow, outline) but I think that once the image is "behind glass" the hyperbolic shadows will be more believable.

Yeah, so while I was on my "I'm going to read into Vanny/Vanessa as much as possible" journey, I noticed an odd quirk in her animations in how she moves. At first, I thought it reminded me of a ballerina, 'cause she's kinda tip-toeing, & she has this way of keeping her head & chest in one place as she moves, but I looked again & realized --
That's not ballet! She's doing a tight-rope act. Like, look at this one:
This is like standing up on the wooden boards before you do the actual tight-rope walking, & the ring leader is hyping you up as you do some fun movement for the crowds. &, then, these:
These are all instances where she walks with one foot directly in front of the other. In that third, she's doing the "woaaah" wiggly-ass balance movements & everything, as if she's swaying up at the top of the tent, even though she's down on solid ground.
Idk, I feel like the way her feet are placed isn't accurate (pretty sure they should be pointed left & right, not both forwards...) doesn't make this 100% correct, but I like it. It also connects back with her first SB teaser, wherein she's up in the rafters.
first one. He is like a big brother figuur to haru, he used to babysit him when haru was younger and lets him have days with his new dog (sadly sasuke cannot live forever)
second idea. tenma for some reason becomes the new coach for one of the rival teams and his honestly just trying to get the kids to get rid of the toxic and bad habits they got from their past coach and make the team a safe place for them.
big bro Tenma 🫶 after babysitting haru I can see him still appearing every now and then as a cool older kid (or wherever the timeline would place his age at) who gives important advice for the situation, on purpose or not! and he definitely deserves a new dog!!
a bigass japanese akita was the first one to come to mind, I can't get rid of the idea that she'd be called Kinako... (and if he had a western breed, maybe Arthur?)
also, uh, sharing an idea I got from here because at first my brain read Haru as Unmei and ran with it before I could confirm. but it has a tiiiny reference to VR beta victory gallery so I'm putting it under read more for easy skipping!
yeah so, that one Unmei ref sheet makes it seem like he spent some time in hospital when he was young, so my first thought about VR Tenma was "what if he keeps going to hang out at the hospital and playing soccer with kids stuck there and he brings his dog to the yard sometimes"
(90% of the time drawing this went to figuring out what the heck to do with Tenma's hair lol)
ive never cared about VR because i have never felt the need or wanted to experience something virtually. i just never got the hype. yes even if it allowed me to do things ill never get to do irl. even if i didnt have the most beautiful friends irl (which i do) i would still rather have mediocre friends in the flesh that i could touch and see and smell and hear and hug rather than finding the “love of my life” through VR. who cares. why would i care
While building galleries for each of my collections, I realized that what I really wanted was a gallery where I could view all the work I've collected from others- it almost feels disrespectful to leave em sitting in a dusty wallet 😅😂 so I built 3️⃣3️⃣3️⃣ gallery mainly so I could go look at all the gems I've collected, but also, each piece in the gallery is also listed on secondary, whether listed by myself or others. A few I listed specifically because I wanted to include them in this gallery, but most listed are listed on secondary by other collectors, and my copy is vaulted. As pieces sell or get delisted, they will be swapped out for others in my collection that are also on the secondary market, and so on. I felt like this was the best way for me to give these works the respect they deserve, while hopefully getting more eyes on these amazing artists, and money in their wallets! ❤🫂❤
I originally wanted to simply display all the works I've collected, but I quickly ran out of room 😂 so went with what I thought worked well together, using the availability on secondary as a limit for myself to not overload the space. So go check out these talented artists and buy up their works, there are still many more ready to be displayed!
I didn't think I'd be that interested in building worlds for vrchat, but my hyperfocus keeps pulling me to Blender. I've been chewing on a tutorial from spookyghostboo, which is creating a middle-class-looking? mcmansionesque? bedroom. I was looking around on sketchfab for additional decor when I realized that I now had the skills to download a frame and put my own artwork in it.
I used the recent Cobalt Moon Moon, which had a backing of additional cardboard when I scanned it which created a bit of false depth. I thought that it might be a better fakeout to pretend the whole of it was behind glass, as I could just tweak the materials settings to make it shiny/reflective. Too bad the thought of getting OBS running to show how it all came together in an awesomely convincing way is exhausting.
So I decided to press on to make my first VRC world, this bedroom, also a small gallery. And to do that I need more than one fbx painting. I keep gravitating to using these swatches as decor because they are soothing in some way. I used to hate "hotel art" but it currently brings me a lot of joy. So I'm just slapping some inner shadow layers on a few swatch images I have and on the craft board "matte", because once it's behind glass I think this will be enough for the illusion of depth. I can get more creative with framing as I learn.
I played around with creating a normal/AO map for an oil painting, but that will have a learning curve to do well. For now framing watercolor "behind glass" will be SO much easier. And linking to a completed VRC world will be easier than trying to film any of the process.

Virtual Reality: The Death and Resurrection of Fine Art.
The work of a fine artist is one of texture and scale and is often heavily steeped in tradition; but as technology dominates society and inevitably the arts, is technology the death of fine art, or is it bridging a gap?
The series of paintings In Time of Plague by Barbara Hope Steinberg is spread across two rooms of a VR gallery. We’re all a bit Zoom-fatigued but it’s still a valuable tool…
