Threads of fire slipped through the air as they wounded over the prince’s hand, palm pressed against his shoulder, Leander cauterized the point where the arrow had pierced his shoulder. A job done out of both haste and necessity as the blood on the simple tunic of Astorian make already began to dry. Simple cotton lined with plain embroidery at the hem, frayed and blackened in places, a pyre had been built at the town’s center as the Vanguard descended upon the harbor town of Solandria.  

“We’ve been betrayed.” Someone within those they shepherded, or one of the connections that they had made. It seemed that it didn’t matter how thoroughly the Agent they worked with had vetted their associate, the Vanguard had finally caught up with them. “Isaura Cressidus is dead.” The Agent of Minerva was older, and skilled in psionics, “They tampered with our wards-” There’d be time enough to figure out how this had come to pass later, for now, what mattered was getting those they could onto the boat and seeing them all to safety. 

Leander scanned the faces of the desperate pilgrims they’d gathered from farms and fields, young and old alike, but all of which were largely untrained. They held trickles of magic where the Olympians were a raging sea. In the distance, Leander heard the cry of the Vanguard as they marched through the streets, if it was Olympians they expected to find here then it was Olympians that the Vanguard would find. This wasn’t how Leander had wanted to see this land off, but it was what he’d expected. His gaze shifted to the pair of Scholars they traveled with, the Healer as well. “Get them on the boats, Kell and I will hold off the Vanguard.”

You know you've not been looking after yourself particularly well...you know that, but you don't have a choice. Between long evenings marking exam papers to parental meetings and phone calls you just haven't had the time to eat properly, to look after yourself. You're too tired to...and that even goes for your weekends.

You'd woken up Saturday morning with the sort of migraine that meant you just wanted to die. When you weren't hiding away in your dark bedroom, curtains drawn, face pressed under your pillows, you were hanging over the toilet feeling like you were going to be sick from the visual disturbances and light distortions you were going through.

Your breakfast? 2 Ibuprofen and a can of Red Bull that you'd thought would kick the migraine, and only served to have your blood pumping anxiously and you feeling even sicker.

Clay's been busy lately just like you have, various charity dinners, hospital visits and then a few road games to add on top. He'd been unable to come by, to check on you for about a week, and text messages and the odd phone call didn't really cut it...not when he missed you.

It's how he finds himself letting himself into your house, toeing off his shoes, padding through until he stops in the kitchen frowning at the empty packets of ibuprofen, the cans of Red Bull, the snack bar wrappers left on the side.

You're usually pretty tidy, rarely leaving empty wrappers or cans around. You're also not a massive fan of energy drinks nor do you usually take painkillers unless you have a particularly bad migraine. All combined it causes a pit of worry to form in his stomach.

"Baby? You in?" The lights are off in most of the house and he makes his way up the stairs following the sound of your groaned out 'in here'. Your bedroom door is closed, no light coming out from underneath and when he finally opens the door you whine a little at the sudden flood of light from the hallway.

Clay's quick to shut the door behind him, taking in the scene. Your curtains are drawn, the room as dark as you could get it. You are huddled under your duvet, out of sight as you burrow deep to avoid as much as light as possible. Your fan is on, cool air blasting directly on the pile of bedding that you'd become and you don't even leave your cocoon to greet him.

Clay's careful as he sits on the edge of the bed, hand reaching into the pile of bedding until his finger tips brush against your hair, pushing the strands back gently.

"You okay, baby?"

"Migraine." You don't expand, simple, effective, pained and he makes a sympathetic sort of shushing sound because while Clayton doesn't get them he's seen you deal with them before. You often end up being violently sick and knocked out for the count.

"Have you eaten anything today?" His fingers are cool against your skin which is overheated as he tucks some hair behind your ear. You're still not looking at him, eyes scrunched, forehead pressed firmly into the mattress beneath you. You feel like if you look at anything right now you'll be sick.

"Mmmm..." You groan because a cereal bar counts right? Not the Clay believes you, if you'd actually eaten he'd have seen plates or evidence of cooking.

“Ibuprofen and a red bull is not breakfast.”

"I thought it would help..." You turn just enough to blink up at him, all pathetic and needy, pout on your lips as your cheek presses into the mattress. Clay's fingers sweep down your cheek, his smile sympathetic.

"Did it?"

"No...feel so much worse." You instantly regretted it and it reminds you that you're not some 18 year old who can just down energy drinks and painkillers and hope it'll be a miracle cure. Your body is older now and it demands proper food and nourishment.

"Oh, sweet girl...wait here, yeah? I'm going to get you some food and some water."

When Clay moves to stand your hand finds his wrist, tugging him back lightly.

"Feel sick, don't want to eat." The idea of eating anything right now is actually the worst, you're almost certain that a single piece of food would have you throwing up.

"I know, but if you don't eat something you'll feel worse, okay? When did you last take some ibuprofen?" Clay's determined to get you to eat something, even if it's a slice of buttered toast and nothing more substantial or complicated.

"8..."

"Okay, I'll get you some more, okay? Or maybe some aspirin, that usually works better right?" He has some distant memory of you asking him to buy aspirin once, saying it was better for your migraines than ibuprofen or paracetamol.

"Don't have any..." You'd used your last up in your last migraine a few months back and had forgotten to buy some more, leaving you with subpar painkillers and an inability to look at any sort of light.

"Good thing I've got some in my car, huh?" His fingers scratch at the base of your scalp, threading through your hair as you blink up at him with a wet but grateful smile.

"I love you."

"Love you too, sweetheart." You wince, eyes blinking shut as the next wave of your migraine hits, double chin on show as you pull your head back at the feeling of nausea rolling through you. "Just stay here, baby, I'll be right back."

He's quick or as quick as he can be. Aspirin acquired, toast made and buttered, just the right level of golden brown, not too crunchy and not too anaemic for your tastes, a big glass of water to go with it.

You're reluctant to do anything but let him help you sit up and down the aspirin with big glugs of water. It's a little harder to get you to eat, but once you start, that first bite of buttery goodness on your tongue, you're all in. You eat the toast so quickly that he has to go and get you some more, your appetite finally kick started.

"Anything else I can do?" He asks once you've had your fill of toast, you look so tired like you might pass out any minute, but he's just relieved you've actually eaten something more than a stale cereal bar.

"Hold me?"

That's easy for Clay. It's easy to shove his cap off and throw it on the side. Easy to slide into bed next to you, easy to pull you into him and let you burrow your face into his chest, easy to hold you and comfort you, be there for you so that you don't feel so alone. Holding you has always been one of the easiest things you could ask of him, more of a pleasure than a favour. It's easy for him.

For you? For you it's everything though. The comfort of being held after feeling like you might die all day, the smell of Clay's cologne that brings you the sort of comfort you can't explain, the warmth of his chest underneath your forehead...just having him there at your worst is everything.

My favourite non-Disney Fairytale Movies

I will say right away that there is NOTHING wrong with loving Disney Fairytale movies. Heck some of my absolute favourite movies and fairy tale adaptations of all time are Disney movies like Sleeping Beauty and Tangled. But I feel like many other beautiful Fairytale movies often get overshadowed by Disney. Especially fairytale movies from Countries outside of the United States. So don't feel attacked by this list and rather let's view it as a shout out to non-American movies.

Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973) [here]. A Czechoslovak-East German movie. This one is a classic christmas movie in czechia, Germany, Sweden and many other regions of europe and it has been my absolute favourite version of Cinderella since I was a child. I could gush about it for HOURS but I will only say this to convince you to watch it: Cinderella knows how to use a crossbow in this.

2. Hungarian Folktales (Magyar népmesék) [here]: This is actually a TV series and not a movie but oh well. Each episode tells a fairytale or folktale from Hungary. The music and artstyle are also based on traditional hungarian folk music and folk art. They actually heavily lean into the flatness of 2D animation in a similar fashion to the Irish Movie the Book of Kells or the way Disney’s Sleeping Beauty did it.

3. Rübezahls Schatz (Rübezahl's Treasure) [here]: If anyone recalls, in a previous post I had mentioned that one of my favourite fairytales is the stories surrounding the Mountain Spirit Rübezahl. So obv I’d LOVE a movie about him. This movie is part of the so called “Märchenperlen”, a german movie series. Each movie in the series adapts a classical fairytale. In this movie Rübezahl is a Guardian Spirit of the Mountains and a bit of a trickster God. But one day he falls in love with a mortal girl named Rosa and he begins to neglect his duties as a guardian. All the while the local Marquise is starting to destroy the forests of the mountains and trying to steal Rübezahl’s legendary gold treasure. So now Rübezahl has to choose between his mortal love or his guardian duties.

4. Schneewittchen und der Zauber der Zwerger (Snow White and the Magic of the Dwarfs): More Märchenperlen movies! This is as the title suggests an adaptation of Snow White but as so many Märchenperlen movies it once again takes creative liberties with its plot. For example in this version, Snow White is a bit of a Tomboy who actually knows how weapons like swords etc are forged as she would often sneak out of the castle to help the local smith with his work. It’s also her weapon-related autism that made the dwarfs trust her and take her in later on. In this version her and the prince also know each other already pretty well before the infamous kiss. And as the title suggests, the dwarfs themselves possess magic. Overall the movie in my eyes does a better job at what Disney attempted to do with their live action version of Snow White. The movie is not without flaws, but it is a comfort watch to me. If you do not speak German, don’t worry! You can simply use Google Chrome + translator to add automatic subtitles to the movie. Here is a guide on how to do it.

5. Der Süße Brei (Sweet Porridge) [here]: Another part of the Märchenperlen series. This one is based on the fairytale of the “pot that makes sweet porridge". Now the actual fairytale is VERY short. So the movie takes a lot of liberties. It takes place in a kingdom that is currently facing a giant famine. As Jola, a young peasant girl, goes out into the forest to forage for food. Instead she finds the shard of a pot and she is lead to believe that this might be a shard of the legendary "Sweet Porridge Pot". A magical artefact that can create food on its own without any ingredients. She is soon joined by the local earl's half brother to look for the other two shards. And so the adventure begins.

6. 哪吒闹海 (Nezha conquers the Dragon King) [here]. As a Lego Monkie Kid Fan and Folklore Nerd I am one of those white people who can claim they loved Nezha and knew about him before the new Nezha movie blew up/j. In all seriousness though if you enjoyed the Nezha movie that came out this year I HIGHLY recommend you watch the 1979 movie. It is animated BEAUTIFULLY and sticks quite a bit closer to the actual tale of Nezha to say the least. An absolute gorgeous experience.

7. Ка́рлик Нос (Little Longnose) [here]: I have talked about this movie before in length in my Post for a Blurrbee AU based on it. So I will not spend too much time on a summary for it. All I am gonna say about this movie that its quality is very close to a Disney movie from the 2000s. It is genuinely that good. Greta is to this day also among my favourite non disney princesses and her and Jacob’s love story means the WORLD to me. So please if you have the time PLEASE give this movie a watch. But if you do please go with the OG russian dub or the german dub. The english dub ain’t it chief.

8. Василиса Прекрасная (Vasilisa Mikulishna) [here]: After her husband gets imprisoned by the Prince of Kiev, Vasilisa Mikulishna cuts off her long hair and disguises herself as a man to rescue her lover. This movie is barely 18 minutes long but animated beautifully and definitely worth a watch.

9. Peau d'Ane (Donkey Skin) I am gonna be honest this movie only made the list because of its ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS cinematography. The colours, the costume designs, the lightning, everything! The movie is aesthetically VERY pleasing. But the movie also includes some very icky (but for french fairytales unfortunately not uncommon) plot points that feature themes of incest. So give this movie a watch if you think you cab handle that.

10. Иван Царевич и Серый волк (Prince Ivan and the grey Wolf) [here]: This russian movie is a bit absurd in its humour but in a charming way. It is VERY VERY VERY losely based on my favourite fairytale of all time by the same name. In this movie Prince Ivan must find a way to conquer the heart of a certain princess. And he is assisted in his endavours by none other but a grey wolf.

Makes admirable use of primary sources, but because of Walker's assumption that Irish dress didn't change for the entirety of the Middle Ages, it is significantly flawed in a lot of its conclusions. Mostly only useful now for historiography. I discussed the images in this book here.

Chapter 18: Dress and Personal Adornment from A Smaller Social History of Ancient Ireland by P. W. Joyce published 1906. Suffers from similar problems to An Historical Essay on the Dress of the Ancient and Modern Irish.

Consumption and Material Culture in Sixteenth-Century Ireland Susan Flavin's 2011 doctoral thesis. A valuable source on the kinds of materials that were available in 16th c Ireland.

A Descriptive Catalogue of the Antiquities in the Museum of the Royal Irish Academy Volumes 1 and 2 by William Wilde, published 1863. Obviously outdated, and some of Wilde's conclusions are wrong, because archaeologists didn't know how to date things in the 19th century, but his descriptions of the individual artifacts are worthwhile. Frustratingly, this is still the best catalog available to the public for the National Museum of Ireland Archaeology. Idk why the NMI doesn't have an online catalog, a lot museums do nowadays.

ok so i am curious how kosikas power will be explained if it's not literally just White London Chose Her Too since like. that cannot be hollands power lol. when i first read i was really negative abt the inheritor being brought back up and the possibility of it being An Object In Play for this trilogy but now. actually kind of digging it (osaron excluded) bc i would be fine if lila goes for it. espesh since it took her+kells power to close that one door and if things only escalate Well. there are more thoughts as to lila but i would support her if she decided to take the plunge and i would support her if she chose to Not and find another way and trust. i would be fine if kosika went for it bc it would probably either be bc 1) holland told her to or 2) holland told her not to. LOGISTICS ASIDE im not typing out the minutiae of hows. truly i do not think option 1 bc the truth of the inheritor would dismantle The Everything lol. but yk ghostholland can just lie so. it's simply a question of why and also what is he. number two is holland gets revived or some other thing happens and unravels kosikas whole Everything and it leads to a Mess and well. it would be really sick and twisted if kosika Actually went and inherited hollands power since we love to keep saying shes done so. and also she would do it to save her world that was it that was the Reason sorry i kind of think she'd be mad and disappointed in holland for a number of things . and even if he had never seen her b4 and was dead half her life i think he would feel guilty abt failing her. bc he's holland.

There is a kellic fanfic that i have been yearning to read but i can't remember it for the life of me—it's a two or three part series with other bands too. The first one follows kellic in high school and all i can remember is that Kellin loves tea, hates coffee. viscerally (this is important). Things happen and one of them leaves without a word. THEN there's fic 2—a time jump to the future, kellin is in a toxic relationship with either Oliver Sykes or Austin Carlile, working long shifts as a server, living off of the tips that he can hide from bf. He and Vic meet again and Kells is too hurt to rekindle things... but he can't help it.

THE SCENE i can't get out of my head is when Vic sees Kellin drinking coffee and being so concerned about him. He vocalizes it but regrets doing so because Kellin blames him for the bad habits that he developed after the heartbreak that Vic caused him TnT

Képes vagy meglátni és élni az anyagi világodban felbukkanó lehetőségekkel, amik általában gyümölcsözőek is számodra. Meg van a képességed arra, hogy anyagi biztonságot és jólétet teremts magadnak. Jól boldogulsz az anyag, a munka és a pénz világában, bölcsen, biztos kézzel bánsz a javaiddal, amiket szívesen meg is osztasz a környezeteddel. Szeretsz adakozni és másokat megajándékozni. Meglehet, hogy az ajándékozás az elsődleges szeretetnyelved. Az érték számodra fontosabb a mennyiségnél a magánéletben is. Szenvedélyes lélek vagy, akár művész, esetleg sportoló, és tehetséged szívesen meg is mutatod a világnak. Kreativitás terén saját egyedi stílusod van, ami mások számára lehet nem-megszokott, meghökkentő, de mindenképpen érdekes és izgalmas. Intuitív, élet igenlő, szabadság szerető személy vagy, akiben pezseg a tettvágy és az energia. Ambiciózus vagy, ha a céljaidról van szó. Legszívesebben folyton mozgásban lennél, gyorsított tempóban haladnál előre életed számodra fontos területein, de néha úgy érezheted, hogy a külső tényezők akadályoznak téged. Ha mérsékled a sebességet, megvan benned a lehetőség, hogy kitartással és a fókuszod megtartásával túljuss a téged lassító buktatókon, nehézségeken. Barátságos, kedves, támogató személy vagy, aki szeret közösségben lenni, élvezni az életet és jókat bulizni. A közös étkezések, a zene, a tánc boldogságod fontos hozzávalói. Vidám jellemeddel beragyogod a hozzád közel állók napját, jókedved másokra is átragad, és te is belőlük nyersz erőt, velük tudsz igazán feltöltődni. Baráti és/vagy családi kapcsolataid számodra prioritást élveznek, támaszt nyújtasz annak, akinek szüksége van rá. Csapatjátékos vagy, akivel mások szívesen dolgoznak együtt, vagy töltik el a szabadidejüket.

Viszont előfordul, hogy kapcsolatainkban konfliktusokkal szembesülünk, és a külső tényezők hatására felborulhat a belső harmóniánk is. Túlcsordulhatnak az érzelmeink, emiatt nem mindig látunk tisztán vagy cselekszünk józanul. Hajlamos lehetsz ilyenkor arra, hogy érzelmileg (is) teljesen elzárkózz, elvágva a kommunikáció-, és egymás megértésének útját.

Másik lehetőségként az is megeshet, hogy olykor sajnos nem a megfelelő emberek vesznek körül, amikor a saját kelyhedet mások javára az utolsó cseppig kiüríted, igyekezeted azonban nem talál viszonzásra. A kölcsönös támogatás hiánya, az egyoldalú erőfeszítés is a felborult egyensúlyra mutat rá a kapcsolatokban. Ennek eredménye lehet, hogy érzelmileg teljesen kimerülsz, és enervált állapotba kerülsz. Színes világod beszürkül, elhagy az életkedved.

Ha efféle szituációba kerülsz, ha teheted, pihenj meg és lépj egy kicsit hátra. Próbáld meg külső szemmel, higgadtan, érzelmeidet lecsendesítve megvizsgálni önmagad, valamint az adott helyzetet. Ne hagyd, hogy zaklatottságod elhomályosítsa a józan ítélőképességedet. Nézz szembe belső mozgató rugóiddal, hogy felelősséget tudj vállalni magadért és a cselekedeteidért. Légy őszinte magaddal és másokkal szemben. Jól gondold át, mérlegelj, majd megfontoltan, tudatos döntéssel, becsületes szándékkal tedd meg a következő lépést. Vezessen a belső Igazságod, a saját belső iránytűd. Segíthet, ha megkeresed azokat a tevékenységeket vagy helyzeteket az életedben, amikkel újra megtalálhatod a belső harmóniádat. Ezek lehetnek meditációs formák, jóga, vagy bármilyen meditatív tevékenység, ami a belső központodban megerősít Téged.

Az idei év nem pont úgy alakult olvasás szempontjából, ahogy terveztem. Az év első pár hónapjában hagytam magam megvezetni egy nagyon hosszú darabbal, ami végül annyira feldühített, hogy a felénél a sarokba dobtam. Ugyanakkor azt hiszem elég idős lettem már ahhoz, hogy ne vesztegessem feleslegesen az időmet az engem nem érdeklő művekre. Nagyon sok könyv hagyta el idén a könyvtáramat mivel egyáltalán nem voltak érdekesek. (Sajnos vagy nem sajnos közel ugyanannyi könyv lépett be, így nem csökkent az állomány, bármennyire is törekedtem rá. 😅)

Voltak azonban könyvek, amik bár nem voltak hosszúak, mégis alaposan megizzasztottak. Szerencsére ezek mind egytől egyig megérték a belefektetett energiát. Pirsig, Kemény és Visky írásai nem csupán élményt nyújtottak, de változtattak a világlátásomon is.

A képregények között nagyon sok a rövid mű és szerencsére egyre több a magyar. Ráadásul ezek mind fontos társadalmi/pszichológiai témákkal foglalkoznak, ami fontos előrelépés a képregényes közegben.

Szakkönyvből/tudományos munkából jóval többet kezdtem el, de ezeket rendszerint félbehagyom, mivel nem mozgatják meg az agyamat. Ezt a párat, amivel végeztem, viszont érdemesnek találtam kiemelni, hogy ne vesszenek el a többi között.

A jövőben a listában a zinek is végre a helyükre kerülnek.

Végül pedig egy kis vallomás: idén azért sem haladtam olyan jól az olvasással, mert sok év után idén újra elkezdtem játszani. Először butaságnak tartottam, de rá kellett jönnöm, hogy olyan reflexeket és kognitív dolgokat mozgat meg bennem, amelyeket nem nagyon használtam már egy ideje. Úgy hogy a számítógépes játékok is maradnak, és mivel másból már nem tudnak, így az olvasásból fognak időt elvenni. De ezt egyáltalán nem bánom. 🙂

A sasszeg

Hív reggel a fickó, aki a hűtő/fűtő paneleket teszi fel, hogy holnap jönne.

Gondoltam magamban, hogy legutóbb még 2 hét múlváról volt szó, de ok. Mondom neki, hogy oké.

Mondom W-nek, hogy jönnek, azt mondta jól felgyorsultak a dolgok, oké.

23:45: W felkiált: ó, azok a kurva sasszegek. Én: óóóóóó bakker. És a párazárás.

Az a háttérsztori, hogy a tartószerkezeten csak 1 sasszeg van illetve van egy - két hely, ahol egy sem. Ezt meg kell csinálni, mielőtt felteszik a paneleket.

A párazárás pedig kb. 95%-ban van kész, van két kritikus pont, ahol még nincs meg (mondjuk szorgalmi feladat, de legyen teljes a kör).

Ezeket is meg kell csinálni, mielőtt jönnének.

Holnap korán kelés van, hogy még a panelesek előtt odaérjünk, hogy mindent megcsináljunk.

Plusz van még amit fotózni és ellenőrizni kell pluszban.

Én hülye, mondhattam volna hogy nem jó, mert még van egy kis dolgunk. De egészen késő estéig nem jutott el a tudatunkig. Így jár, akit két meeting közt hívnak..

Fontos a megfelelő méret kiválasztása, valamint a légáteresztő anyagok használata a túlzott izzadás elkerülése érdekében. - Vízállóság: Az időjárás változékonysága miatt érdemes vízálló vagy vízlepergető cipőt választani, hogy esős időben is szárazon tartsa a lábunkat. - Stílus: A funkcionalitás mellett a megjelenés is fontos. Propaganda vs. valóság

77 479 ember. Ennyi külföldi állampolgár kapott magyarországi tartózkodási engedélyt csak 2023-ban, egyetlen év alatt, ami soha nem látott rekord szám. Tanulni, családot egyesíteni, de főleg dolgozni jönnek.

Szemben a propaganda vadul bevándorlásellenes lózungjaival, bőszen zajlik a munkaerőimport, ami tkp. szabályozott bevándorlás, és ez nem is csoda, hiszen évente kb. 50 000 fővel csökken a munkaképes korú lakosság, ennyivel többen mennek nyugdíjba, mint amennyien a munkaerőpiacra belépnek, ami 10 év alatt 0,5 millió, 20 év alatt 1 millió (!) munkaerőfogyás, amit mind pótolni kell. És még ehhez jön a kivándorlás. Egy-két évized múlva milliós nagyságrendű lehet a küldiek száma Magyarországon is.
