On this day in 2023, the collective made an appearance at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany. They were the headlining appearance on the W.E.T. stage at the incredibly late hour of 23:45PM local time on the festival's fourth and final day.

The setlist is reported as follows:

This night is memorably known for the when the vessel teased the intro to Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" before playing Rain.

You were correct. This episode has to be one of my favorites so far. I love it when wtdw gets dark. it has the opportunity to be such a dark show but often doesn't take itself too seriously, which is fair, i understand that this media's purpose is to be able to be consumed by all different types of ages in media. Sometimes in this show that's for the better. I mean the jokes are great! Don't get me wrong, but my personal favorite parts are when it dives down into the sadder, bloodier bits AND THIS EPISODE DID JUST THAT PERFECTLY. AND IT CALLED OUT SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY THINGS AND IT WAS GREAT AND OH BOY IM SO HIGH ENERGY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF IT.

Anyway Norman waking up for the first time one shot put on hold, the desire to write a hayden waking up in watchful eye after everything one shot is stronger. THEY KIDNAP HIM. THAT'S LIKE. MY FAVORITE TROPE I NEED TO WRITE IT OR I WILL EXPLODE.

Norman angst will still be written eventually because it's fun but right now i crave the guy of all time the dude in blue the the the you know?!

O que é AOR?

Literalmente, a sigla AOR significa “adult oriented rock”. Musicalmente, trata-se de uma fusão entre rock, hard e progressivo surgida no final dos anos 1970 e início da década de 1980, caracterizada por uma sonoridade rica e cheia de camadas, produção cristalina e uma forte presença de melodia e refrãos fortes.

O uso marcante de sintetizadores é recorrente entre as bandas de AOR, assim como a presença de harmonias vocais. Os fortes ganchos melódicos e refrãos atraentes, combinado à canções variando entre 3 e 4 minutos, tornam tudo muito agradável e de fácil assimilação auditiva. O AOR é, em sua essência, um gênero moldado para as rádios, para a construção de hits e, consequentemente, a venda de milhares de discos e a lotação de arenas - não à toa, alguns chamam o estilo de “rock de arena”.

Entre os pioneiros e mais conhecidos nomes do estilo estão bandas como Journey, Kansas, Toto, Survivor, Foreigner, Styx, Boston, Asia e REO Speedwagon. Canções como “Don't Stop Believin”, “Carry On Waynard Son”, “Dust in the Wind”, “Africa”, “Rosanna”, “Hold the Line”, “Eye of the Tiger”, “Burning Heart”, “More Than a Feeling”, “Heat of the Moment” e “Only Time Will Tell” estão entre os maiores clássicos do estilo.

A influência do AOR foi bastante perceptível durante a década de 1980, levando ao surgimento de bandas como Magnum, FM, Red Rider, Honeymoon Suite e outras, além da inserção cada vez maior de características do gênero na música de grupos que originalmente não partiram do estilo, como foi o caso do Def Leppard e do Bon Jovi.

Durante os anos 1990 e 2000 o AOR perdeu significativamente a sua popularidade, o que não representou, necessariamente, a ausência de bandas e artistas de qualidade, como comprovaram Harem Scarem, Tyketto, Talisman e House of Lords. Mais recentemente, nomes como Gotthard, Pride of Lions, W.E.T., Brother Firetribe, H.E.A.T. e Place Vendome têm conseguindo atrair uma nova geração de admiradores para o gênero, rejuvenescendo o estilo com discos muito interessantes.

WACKEN OPEN AIR PART IV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picking up where I left off from Part III, after I saw Possessed I chilled out by my locker for a good while and I then went down to the W.E.T. stage to see the last band in VOIVOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my 6th time seeing them as I saw them in Toronto last June and it was their first Wacken appearance in 13 years. It also felt awesome to see another of the big 4 Canadian Thrash Metal bands at Wacken as the only other one I've seen more than once at Wacken is Annihilator. Hopefully I'll get to see Razor and Exciter play Wacken someday as that would be cool. Denis "Snake" Belanger and Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain are both comedians in between songs with their banter. Chewy was making funny banter while his guitar was getting fixed up and as well Snake's dance moves and faces were priceless, much like how I saw him doing that in Toronto last summer. After Voivod, I began the gradual process of taking my valuables out of my locker, grabbing something to eat, and going back to my tent to sleep.

Also to note during Megadeth's set Dave Mustaine asked the crowd "Bet you wish you were over here and not over there?" I then replied back with "Ehhhhh not really". Also during Iron Maiden's set Bruce had said people would mistake Can I Play with Madness? with "Can I Play with Agnes" which was another hilarious moment. Also when I saw that EMP commercial that had Helga in it, the locals would scream "HELLLLLGAAAAAAAA" and I thought "Oh, this is who Helga is" as I heard her name being screamed at the merch line at Rammstein in Berlin. I also want to give thanks to Diana for introducing me to the toothpaste alternative of Pfeffermint Schnapps as that stuff relieved me from having to brush my teeth for a few nights.

Sunday August 6th: This was the day I along with the others took down our tents, cleaned up, I got my locker deposit back after emptying out my remaining valuables, helping take down Rendsburger camp for a bit before it was time for me to tag along with Esther and Elke and I then made my rounds and said in the words of Rammstein "Adieu, Goodbye, Auf Wiedersehen" to everyone there. A tractor with a winch was required to tow the car onto the dry pathway, which surprisingly didn't take long. Then once at Esther's place it was coffee and lunch time, and it was shower time for me. I then bid farewell to Esther, and after Elke dropped me off at Itzehoe Hauptbahnhof I said goodbye to her.

Looking back on it, my reasoning for saying I had mixed feelings about this year's Wacken was due to me being exhausted and having sore thighs from walking in the mud, but looking back on it, despite the shitty weather and horrible mud, I had a great time with the Crüe, other friends I ran into, and new ones I made along the way. It's highly unlikely I'll return next year as my odds of coming to WOA 2024 are 20/80, but I'll definitely aim to return in 2025 and hopefully I won't be dealing with any tragedies just like I dealt with in Elouise dying 8 days before I left. This years Wacken was not just for Elouise Marshall, but for Walter Froebrich and Werner Flick, even though I didn't know Werner all that well. I will add I went to Elouise's memorial bonfire on the last day of August, which was a big relief for me as I got to say goodbye to her properly and reflect on all the good times I had with her.
