Yo what's up with royalty not being allowed to have magic? Is magic bad? What about it makes someone unfit to rule?

Okay so basically the kingdom Rosalie is from (I haven't named it yet so we'll just call it the main kingdom for now) is surrounded by magical forest on two and a half sides. These forests were inhabited by tons of different magical creatures, many of which did not take kindly to humans setting up shop so close to them, and they disliked it even more when said humans started trekking into their domains to forage and hunt. War broke out, and the humans of the main kingdom had to fight tooth and nail for every scrap of land and food and gold and anything that they got. As a result the main kingdom began to resent all forms of magic, associating it only with death and destruction.

However, they were losing. Badly. Especially once the Fae discovered how much fun these humans were to toy with. So much unbridled rage and hatred was like candy to them, and things became downright horrific. So when the fairies offered their help to protect the kingdom, the humans said yes.

The fairies taught the humans the ways they could learn magic themselves and together they managed to keep the kingdom safe. In exchange the fairies only asked to be able to be equal citizens of the kingdom, which the King at the time granted, knowing that trying to cast them out would be suicide. The human citizens for the most part still hated and feared magic though, so the king made it so that no fairy could hold a high ranking noble title, and no royalty could have any magic ability. This placated the humans somewhat, and the fairies were allowed to live in the kingdom in relative peace.

Ironically, a few years after the king's son took over, the old king was found to have latent magical abilities, and was beheaded for it.

Anyway, all that happened a good few centuries before the start of the story, and the royalty law still stands. The nobility one has mostly dissolved now, since eventually a few high powered nobles wanted to marry fairies, and then there was a messy period where they were trying to figure out how to make it so that it could happen without the fairies being nobility, and there was a bunch of laws that got changed like every other Tuesday until they eventually pretty much gave up on the whole thing.

Can you tell me something you love about 'We All Lie Amongst The Thorns'. Something you're excited to write about but maybe haven't gotten to yet?

Ooooo this is a great ask!

I want to say all of it lol, but that's vague and unhelpful. I haven't really written a lot of this one to be perfectly honest, mainly plot outlines and vibes. Anyhow, I'm excited to write about the Queen's backstory, she's a super badass character (think warrior queen who has won many wars from the frontlines type of thing). I just love the vibes of the whole story and can't wait to introduce more magic into it.

Also if you like fairytale retellings and will take recommendations, Spindle's End by Robin McKinley is what got this idea rolling around in my mind. It's not a dark retelling per se, but it's a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.

First of all, I love you Letters, thank you for the ask.

Okay so, lore behind We All Lie Amongst The Thorns and Survival Is A Team Sport. I have done proper wip summaries on my intro post here, but I'd be happy to go into more detail.

We All Lie Amongst The Thorns is a fairy tale retelling. The main character is my version of Sleeping Beauty. The story starts on her presentation ceremony (the day about a week after her birth when she is presented to the public) where a fairy from each discipline will bless her, except for the divination fairy, who will read her future. After the blessings are given the divination fairy has her vision and says that she will be cursed to fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday, and that this curse will bring about the kingdom's downfall. The king, terrified of losing his power, sends the newborn baby deep into the woods, far away from him. And thus the story begins.

Survival Is A Team Sport starts out on a beautiful sunny summer day, the main character Camryn's birthday. He and his friends are on the way to his house after school to celebrate when suddenly the sky goes dark and strange things start dropping from the sky. The kids' path home is blocked, so they take cover in a nearby garage. The sounds of chaos continue throughout the night, and when they finally peek out in the morning, everything has changed.

Hello and welcome to me trying to figure out how to use Tumblr to share my work!

This is going to be an introduction to my current wips and some organizational stuff

Okay so, the series you're going to be hearing me talk about the most is called What's Your Story. It's a long series with an undetermined amount of books in it.

What's Your Story is a shifting pov series that follows the main characters through their lives and how they get turned upside down, eventually showing how everyone's stories tie together. WYS has the endless cosmos as its setting, and its eye is fixed on the Organization, a group made up of the most powerful and the most evil, bent on bringing everything under their rule. This cosmic war is the backdrop for the dramatic lives of our little freedom fighters, most of which just want to survive with their worlds intact.

Another one of my wips that I've begun to share is tentatively titled Appearances Are Deceiving. Here's an introduction to it:

Kairna and Taren are twin siblings, and the top students of the prestigious Hornfel Academy, the best school on the planet. However, with a new and slightly strange Director recently being put in charge, the school's reputation may well be on the line. Kairna and Taren are orphans and the rarest subtype of elf, one that's often hunted down for their power. Without the protection of the school, things will go south for them fast. You follow them as they try to figure out what this new director's deal is and help him retain control of the school.

My newest wip is We All Lie Amongst The Thorns.

This is a dark fairy tale retelling that combines several tales into one. The story follows the main character Rosalie (Sleeping Beauty) as she tries to discover who she really is. She eventually learns the dark secrets of her past which leads her to resent her birth parents, the king and queen. She goes on a mission to find others who have been unjustly cast out by the kingdom to help her bring it down.

They are in the way of human expansion, and are going to be cut down. The last surviving sorceress and protector of the forests is not happy about this, but she's just one woman. She needs to recruit more to her cause. She needs successors.

It starts out as any normal day. Then the world ends. Okay not really, but if apocalypses exist, this is one. Survival Is A Team Sport follows high schooler Camryn Bird and his group of friends as they try to survive the craziness that has descended upon the world, find their families if they're still alive, and find out what caused this apocalypse.

Like A Movie

Like A Movie is your stereotypical romance novel, except it's written from the perspective of the stereotypical tall dark handsome love interest. The problem? Said love interest is not at all interested in any of the girls he's "supposed" to fall in love with. He starts to believe that he's simply not capable of love, until he meets someone new. A young man with a beautiful infectious smile. Maybe he was just looking in the wrong place after all.

Working title: Madness Heals All Wounds

This is a surrealist story that is both cozy and eerie. The main character is a lonely author who is firmly convinced that she is slowly going mad. The story follows her through her daily life, leaving the reader to decide whether or not these strange events really happened, or are just a product of the author's growing insanity. The story has elements of loss and dealing with grief, found family, and learning to live with oneself. This one is very personal and almost an autobiography of sorts. It'll be the last thing I do.
