my initial knee jerk reaction to lucanis/spite saying "family, enemies, contracts" was bad because it felt like an oversimplification but actually thinking on it i really love that lucanis forces himself into this box to make things make sense in his life. family is unconditional, enemies are to be killed, but contracts is so. interesting... man who promises mila that he will find her father because he does not fail contracts. the same man who tells effe that he will kill her slaver because he needs to turn her from a poor young woman that he sympathises with, into someone he can make a deal with. it's not kindness, it's not weakness, he's just fulfilling a contract, and crows don't break contracts. if he kills a bunch of racist blood mages during that process, then he's not breaking the rules, just bending them. a very convenient excuse to be a good man while still being a crow and assassin. and of course when spite is forced into him, he gets out of it with something familiar! by making another deal! something he could work with, something he HAS to work with, because being just an abomination is unthinkable. if he can work himself out of this problem like he's done with every other contract in his life, in his mind maybe there's some tiny chance that this becomes another job that he can claw his life back from.

Ethan has spent the majority of his adult life travelling around the world living in safehouses with his coworkers and I think that would give him a very warped perception of the division between private and public space. like he essentially lives with the people he works with, does not have a stable address or schedule, and - given that a lot of the safehouses look like they have shared sleeping quarters - effectively no privacy. and just like his job is 80% improvising I feel like his own ‘domestic’ schedule (sleeping showering etc) has to also be done ad-hoc whenever he has a moment of free time. like in Fallout he naps in the back of the van with Lane chained up next to him lol. so feasibly this means there is a scenario in which he just starts brushing his teeth during a mission briefing

2nd person POV gets SUCH an undeservedly bad rap. Homestuck is (& I say this as a former Homestuck) an iffy use of the narration style IMO, but there are some great examples of how it can be a super effective tool to shape a narrative. Disco Elysium comes to mind, as does Harrow the Ninth. I personally use 2nd Person in a personal project for a protag who’s a relentlessly unreliable narrator & it allows me to balance showing what is *actually* happening and what the protagonist’s own delusions or skewed perceptions of events + their own thoughts/feelings are. At the end of the day it’s just a storytelling device that has a plethora of varied, extremely valid uses, and anyone who gives you shit for using it to achieve the correct tone and voice for the story you’re trying to tell can choke

imo, if shen qingqiu were to ever become a parent (not that he would want to), he’d definitely be a lot more chill about the trouble his kid would get into compared to how other parents would react to their kids doing bad things, because nothing they do will ever be on the level of the trouble he was causing when he was their age (i.e. murder, arson, etc.), lol.

i think a lot about how early-series, demigods are referred to pretty equally as "demigods," "half-bloods," and "godlings," - the last used particularly by gods at demigods - but after that "godlings" is almost exclusively used to refer to minor gods.
