I'll never agree with the short Peeta/tall Katniss takes because their canonical sizes are both narratively and thematically relevant.

Peeta's medium height and stocky build give him the size and strength to overpower most of his competitors in the arena, yet he rarely uses those traits to hurt people despite being in circumstances that encourage violence. Having the power and motive to be deadly and choosing to be kind instead is what defines Peeta's character.

Katniss's small size generally puts her at a disadvantage in the Games but she's still very deadly. I like that she's earned the skills (bow and arrow, hunting) and survivor mentality that make her a formidable tribute because she's not supposed to be this naturally gifted "chosen one" type figure. She's a regular teenage girl who has some special qualities but still needs a lot of help to win the Games.

Their size difference is also relevant in their relationship. Katniss has had to take care of herself since she was a young girl because of her mother's neglect, and as a result she doesn't trust other people to protect her. She's understandably mistrustful of Peeta's kindness when they become tributes, as one of them has to die for the other to live and he has the ability to kill her with his bare hands if he wants to (which we see later on when he's hijacked). Yet once they become allies, his larger size is no longer a potential threat but a source of comfort and protection; being held by him is the safest Katniss has felt with anyone since her parents held her as a little kid. And after they leave the arena, his strong arms are the only ones she trusts to guard her from her nightmares.

So even though I do think short guy-tall girl couples deserve more rep, it doesn't really make sense for Peeta and Katniss. And tbh viewing the gentle and compassionate boy as short and the tough hunter girl as tall is a little stereotypical lol.

as someone who’s a very casual watcher viewer (i don’t think i’ve watched any videos in months) as well as being a media major, this situation is so fascinating to me

ghost files costing $50k per episode??? 25 employees??? what do you need a director for to make survival mode? it’s literally just a lets play

I love you Ghost Files, I love you Watcher I love you Ryan Bergara for coming up with a show and gathering the best people you can to make this a reality I love you Mark Celestino for being the best camera man and catching the moments and cinematography to combine the creepy vibe of an indie movie with the humor of the ghoul brothers, I love you theme song crediting all the people responsible for making this show. Love you creepy intro music and the outro playing a bit in the end to signal the end of the episode, I love you everyone who make this show as good as it is even if you keep the very good illusion that it takes only Ryan and Shane and maybe a cameraman to make this show (it doesn't! I see you Sam Young and Lizzie Lockhard for taking the best bits of the ep and making it watchable, I also see you editors and people watching the footage from the static cams to pick the best moments). Love every single person who added their effort into making this show from nothing, and keeping it fresh for third year in a row! Love changing up things for enrichment while keeping the gist of it. I love you Watcher TV for allowing me to support the production of this show and being able to watch it on bigger screen than a laptop without ads. I also like that this gives us more opportunities for bonus content than ever before. You can really see that this show is made with everything they got and every detail is there for a reason. Love to see it truly honestly this post is written after watching the first episode of season three but I think it's true for every ep and every season that comes after it.

It might be a "big unbankable bitch" but you can really see why it takes a year for them to make it, and this episode made me feel like I was watching this show for the first time again. And that's not an easy feature of a show made for years and into it's third season. Truly I love this show a lot.

I know we always imagine watchers a big old scary looming creatures. They quite literally watch you and the best view is from the top amirite?

Then there’s grain.

Who stands at a wonderful 5’6 feet.

So here we have like idk I’d like to think 7-8 something feet tall creatures looking at lil gremlin grian and thinking yes we want that.

And grian in his watched form just trailing behind them.

(Bonus hc is the idea grian flies everywhere cuz while the watchers do have wings they mainly use it to perch on high places but otherwise walk quite a lot. Grian flies everywhere though just to stay on good ol’ eye level with them Yk.)

can i just word vomit for a min...

there was a point in late 2023 where i felt like i overstayed my welcome on simblr and i planned on just wrapping frozen pines up as quickly as possible and moving on. continuing to write when it's clear that the audience for it is dwindling felt so embarrassing that i almost didn't even want to put effort into it anymore, because i was afraid it just looked pathetic (obligatory disclaimer: no one made me feel this way, you're all so lovely, it's just the nature of seeing a community change over 7 years). writing already feels very personal to me and it's becoming increasingly harder for me to put my work out there (again, for reasons unrelated to simblr and entirely related to mental illness 🤙🏻). i know my story is so long that it deters new readers, and so sporadic that it makes old readers drop off with time. this has really been bothering me lately because i don't know what i can do to fix it. i don't think there IS anything i can do.

but. okay. don't make fun of me for saying this. dan and phil returning to youtube kinda changed my mindset? they may be pulling a fraction of the views they got in their peak, but they're happier than they've ever been and they're working on things they actually want to do, not things they think will be particularly popular. seeing that has made me realize that it is possible to keep finding joy in a community that has largely moved on without you. obviously my little blog is nowhere near the same scale, so this feels kind of silly, but i've been thinking about all the things i used to do on simblr that were never fun for me, i mainly did them because i knew they would get notes or because i felt like i had to do it. making cc, lookbooks, sim requests, reshade help (oh my god the reshade help), lot downloads, etc. they DID get notes, but i can't imagine spending my time doing any of that stuff ever again tbh.

on top of that, it makes me sad to scroll through my dash and realize that i don't recognize most of the people i see anymore. i still talk to some wonderful people here who i consider friends and that's invaluable to me (💖), but the broader community aspect is something i no longer feel a part of. and believe me, i know i'm at fault here because it's not like i'm going out of my way to talk to new people or participate in trends like i used to. i don't blame anyone except the passage of time!!

frozen pines, and simblr by extension, played such a gigantic part in my life when i needed it the most. and that's not to say that i don't still care about it, because i absolutely do, but it's a different kind of feeling. i've always promised that i would give frozen pines a satisfying conclusion rather than silently abandoning it someday, and though i do intend to keep that promise, i know it's possible that i might never get there. but i don't want to let my own insecurities get in the way of something i really enjoy doing. writing is an intrinsic piece of me that i'll never quit doing, but sharing my writing on tumblr is something that can't (and shouldn't) last forever. i know that. but i'm going to enjoy it to the fullest while we're all still here together 💞

to anyone who's still reading my silly story after all these years (especially those of you who still check in on my blog even though you're not on simblr anymore): thank you thank you thank you THANK YOUUU. you don't have to change a single thing about what you're doing. this is not me fishing for compliments or putting down an ultimatum, this is just me trying to make sense of my feelings.

but with all this being said, i've decided to quit simblr and start my own exclusive streaming service for $60 a year, i hope you'll all support me as i increase my production value 😌

Kinnporsche, Playboyy, and Love Sea: Language use in Thai Shows

Anyone who has friends working to preserve a language knows that speaking in the language of your ancestors can have deep and fulfilling meaning to it. It just hits in the chest. Due to this, I've always found it very interesting that until recently, I haven't heard other languages or even dialects of Thai used in Thai BL.

(I am but one person, so if I'm missing anything, please correct me! I don't want to be spreading misinformation if I can help it.)

The first time I saw non-Thai language use in BL was Kinnporsche. Ken, affectionately called Australian Jumpscare by my friends, and Vegas both use English. Ken's use is more incidental but it's still there, and Vegas's use of English is seemingly for when he's speaking comfort, to Macau, to his hedgehog, and to Porsche when he drugs him ('Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you'). Pretty cool, but Kinnporsche was my first BL so I didn't realize how unique it was at the time.

The next three times I heard a Thai BL letting a character have significant moments in a language that wasn't the usual Thai spoken in BL shows was Playboyy.

Soong and First spoke English to each other during their hook-up in the first episode and throughout the show.

Zouey had thoughts in what were initially subtitled as [Horny Japanese] but later got proper subtitles.

Captain called Keen 宝贝 baobei and spoke Mandarin in a few other scenes at important moments.

Three different non-Thai languages in one show! It was exciting to see the diversity of Thailand realized onscreen, for me, so after that, I've been on watch! I wanted to see more, and now I've got one newer example:

Love Sea letting Mut not only speak southern dialect but speak it very stubbornly and not switch when Rak asked him to? That was sheer perfection, a very accurate reflection of many I've known in similar positions. I was a little sad when Rak never tried to learn anything in southern dialect, but hey, that's what fic is for, right?

Anyway, this use of language? The kind that is scripted and an important part of the shows? I like that. More of this, please, Thai BL industry!
