How would you handle the Benjamin Russell situation

basically every WIP I have right now deals with this so I'm not going to go into a huge amount of detail, but:

as I understand it jeph loeb intended the big reveal to be that shatterstar was never from mojoworld he was just benjamin russell, mutant kid from boston who ended up in the gamesmaster-controlled weisman institute. gamesmaster then manipulated ben's memories and sent him to mojoworld to become "shatterstar". this is lame and stupid obviously

instead, I would have ben be created by arize using the genetic material of rita wayword and longshot such that he is essentially their son (though not by birth) (if you want, this works with longshot and dazzler too)

rita sacrifices herself to send him to earth to live a normal human childhood and becomes spiral

thus ben ends up growing up with the russell family in boston thinking he's from Earth

when he's a teenager he runs away from home for [plot reason] and he gets taken to the (gamesmaster-controlled) weisman institute. he tries to run away from the institute also, and his mutant power manifests which is shatterstar's teleportation power from xfi. only ben teleports without an anchor and his soul detaches from his body. or whatever. and he essentially dies but his body falls into a coma and eventually gets taken back to the institute (because at this point gamesmaster is like. invested in him. I'll get to that below). the period where he's not there is the point where terry is first at the institute and he's listed as missing

ben "dying" alerts spiral and spiral tries to find him

however gamesmaster has taken an interest in ben after meeting xforce in the childs play event (xf 32-33) when he sees shatterstar and goes. Huh? Thats weird. I could do something with that, so he prevents spiral from getting to the institute

gamesmaster perceives that spiral has a special connection to ben so he proposes a game to her--if he can successfully manipulate shatterstar into thinking he's actually benjamin russell, mutant kid from boston, then spiral can have "benjamin" back (spiral of course does not know that ben is "dead" so the "benjamin" gamesmaster is referring to here would actually be shatterstar, brainwashed. he has a little teehee moment about this of course because for him the game is to not only fool shatterstar, but spiral as well. spiral will eventually figure out that the real ben is dead, but not until right before the actual ben russell arc in xf 59-61).

but if he can't, or if spiral interferes to tell shatterstar that gamesmaster is fucking with him, then he'll rewrite BEN'S memories and send him to mojoworld to live shatterstar's destiny (which he knows is to die for the rebellion) (AKA live out what jeph loeb originally intended to be the plot of the ben russell arc) (he intends to do this by getting in contact with mojo btw don't worry about it too much)

gamesmaster knows spiral won't sacrifice ben for shatterstar

gamesmaster doesn't just rewrite shatterstars memories to think he's ben because he knows spiral will, in time, just figure out how to reverse it with her magic. he's gotta make shatterstar believe it for real. EDIT instead he does it by . little things like making shatterstar worse in fights as we see in xf46-56, making him lose his warriors edge, planting info about ben where he knows shatterstar will see it, all leading up to the end of 56

all of this is happening in the background of xforce so nothing changes there

events of the actual ben russell arc are exactly the same shatterstar still dies on mojotv (as has always been his destiny) but because benjamin is essentially a body without a soul he can live on, retaining both his and benjamin's memories

benjamins life ends so shatterstar's can continue just like rita's life ends so spiral can save benjamin from growing up on mojoworld

forgot to mention this earlier but shatterstar is one of 7 clones made by arize before spiral sends ben to earth to grow up with the russells
