Great ace attorney: you already asked me nearly all major ships, so I want to ask about the same thus Asoryuu, Susahao, Susagina and Homumiko. (Also maybe Hosonaga and cure from whatever allergy he has, guy should stop coughing up blood)

Alright! Starting with YTTD ships we have

Q-Kai: I love these guys together. This is one of those ships where as I was watching a playthrough I thought “oh. Oh they are in love I think. Oh these bitches gay.” Q-taro’s actions in ch. 2 are so tragic yaoi it’s amazing, how do you do it man. I think, in a non-death game universe, they would have a very compelling slowburn romance where they grow to respect each other unconditionally and that, I think, is romance. Idk I’m aro.

Naosara: GUH. TRAGEDY. SORROW. Two girls supporting each other through their trauma. I think Sara would become a muse for Nao. I think they’d have a tumultuous but ultimately healthy relationship. I think these two deserve each other’s support. I think they should kiss and cuddle and watch shitty movies together. 10/10.

KeijiAlice: I don’t have strong feelings either way. I think they could make each other happy. Good for them.

Naoshin: it’s cute but I think they’re better as besties.

Ransara: This one I dislike. It feels weird to me. It’s compelling in a “depths of human depravity” kind of way but also it’s far too real to me. Not a fan but I see why people like it.

Now for Ace Attorney!

Franmaya: I love wlw so much tbh. I want them to be happy. No thoughts only girls in love

Wrightworth: what can I say on this that hasn’t already been said? Nothing. Moving on!

Godot/Mia: I haven’t played/watched the later games so I don’t know much but what I have seen of them is cute and I think they make a nice family tbh. No complaints here, Godot makes a pretty good big brother for Maya

Phoenix/Iris: another idk moment. Also Feeny is annoying sorry. I’m not a fan but also they really seemed to love each other which I respect. On Iris’s part. I can’t respect Feeny I’m sorry he’s such a little bitch /affectionate

Susagina: Speaking of Susato deserving all the girlfriends, I really like Susagina. Another week of raising money for @ficwritersforreproductiverights! This week we have three Ace Attorney centered prompts:

1. Coffeeshop AU, Strangers to Lovers, Franziska/Maya. Maya as a barista, Franziska as a customer. Featuring barista Phoenix (and Miles as Franziska's support). A lot of fluff, very sweet one-shot.

2. Soulmate AU set in canon, Phoenix/Miles and Franziska/Maya. The catch is that the actual soulmate pairs are Maya & Phoenix and Miles & Franziska because I love platonic soulmates more than romantic ones. The specific soulmate link I still don't have figured out since I'm currently choosing between two options: telepathic link based on emotions or soulmate's initials written on the person's wrist. Regardless, a lot of sibling (or sibling-like for Maya and Phoenix) relationships, some Hurt/Comfort, happy ending.

3. Fantasy AU with princess Maya and her knight Franziska, FranMaya. Franziska getting injured and Maya tending to her wounds. A lot of Hurt/Comfort in this one.

Grace, trying to answer this gave me some sort of quarter-life existential crisis, and I am a bit hysterical rn. Through the laughter and the screaming, I have to admit that... I kind of............ get it??????? I WOULDNT SAY I SHIP IT, BUT, LIKE. THEY'RE SO FUNNY BUT ALSO REALLY SAD AND IM????? IDK WHAT I THINK SJWVSHDHFKDH

Ultimately, though, ULTIMATELY. I can't quite get past the whole 'that is Mia's ex who is still very much in love with her, and her protege' thing. She's played too much of a role in both their lives for them to see very far past her influence on one another, and I don't think it'd be very healthy for them to try pursuing a romantic relationship; because I feel like they'd inevitably end up trying to fill the space Mia left in their lives through the other person which just wouldn't work. I definitely think they should have some sort of a relationship, though! I think Diego cryptically mentoring Phoenix and being very unhelpful most days, but always really solid help deep down, is very fun and kind of important for them post-BttT. I think they should get to truly know one another, beyond the masks and the projection, and Diego has a lot more experience being a lawyer than Phoenix, so he'd definitely be able to help with all the moral quandaries that are bound to come up later on. Plus he'd Get the whole 7-yg Phoenix attitude thing because... he's been there. I think he could've been helpful, and it's a shame we don't get to see them be, if not friends, respected acquaintances.

Alternatively, though, the idea of Phoenix having a casual conversation with Diego only for the fleeting thought of "Wow, he's really attractive" to stop him dead in his tracks and make him question his whole life and go to therapy and Leave the Country™ is so funny to me. Alternatively-alternatively, I get the romance of it. It's the whole pulling back the mask, having someone who really understands you, being accepted in spite of your worst flaws, moving on from grief and loss with another hand in yours and NOPE. I CANT TALK ABOUT THIS. I DONT SHIP IT BUT IDK! IDK!!!! IM THROWING THEM BOTH OFF A CLIFF, AND THEN IM THROWING MYSELF OFF A CLIFF. I AM DONE. GOODBYE.

Franmaya:

Okay, after standing in the shower and staring at a wall for 3 hours, I can talk normally again, which is good because I have to explain this.

I know the people who ship them don't do it in this way, but? Honestly? Franmaya is one of those wlw ships that strike me as two female characters being shoved together because they're left hanging once the main male couple whom everyone actually cares about (nrmts in this case) gets together, and because no one can find anything interesting to say about them as individuals, so now they're lesbians. Yay! (And also because people maybe don't want to be seen as only shipping mlm ships for fear of being told they're fetishising them.) And I know that that's not true and that most Franmaya shippers love both of them individually (as we all should), but something about them always makes me hear the feminine AI TikTok voice going, "Diversity Win 😊👍🎉!" in my head and conjures up images of Western corporate advertisements during the month of June (hence the love is love coca-cola).

And I know this isn't the case, but ???? I think it's mainly because I genuinely do not understand this ship. I don't usually need ships to be supported by canon for me to ship them, but what we've been given by canon doesn't help me see these two as ever being friends, let alone girlfriends. I understand the reasoning of "they both have self-worth issues so they'd understand each other", and that's a perfectly good reason to ship people, but like. I kind of want more? I kind of want them to be able to connect on a level that goes beyond them having similar issues? And probably the folks who do ship Franmaya do have reasons that go beyond that, like maybe Maya teaches Franziska how to lighten up and not take herself so seriously, and Franziska shows Maya that she doesn't always have to be the easiest version of herself to be loved. And that's all lovely! But I... don't want them to fix each other--

See, the versions of Franmaya I've seen floating around either boil them down to a wlw version of nrmts OR they make them out to be this saccharine, perfect, happy lesbian couple who are so, so wonderful and sweet to each other. Which is. Great! I love seeing women happy! But -- I'm sorry -- it's so BORING to me. It always seems to fix them a little (even if it's just around each other), and I like their flaws. I like that Franziska's a bit of an uppity, violent snob, and I like that Maya is a bit of a naive, insecure girl. I don't want them to fix each other, but I've tried twisting them the other way round, too! I've tried giving them the Krisnix treatment where they just amplify each other's worst traits, because they share similar insecurities and would know where to prod to make it hurt, but! I find that even less appealing and workable, tbh. Maya at her worst might let someone walk all over her for momentary wisps of affection disguised as acceptance of her flaws? But she has good and smart friends! Nick would never let her be in a toxic relationship like that, and he'd stay with her until she realises it's bad for her! And Franziska, regardless of how she may feel about being in Edgeworth's shadow, would never let anyone else even suggest that to her. The moment she gets a hint of that kind of disrespect, she is gone. She doesn't need you, make no mistake of that.

And it all really comes back to the fact that I can't see them connecting as friends. With Emaziska, I could see how they could be genuinely good friends and then more, but with Franmaya it's just... Not there for me. I can't see them progressing beyond the "oh, that's my little-older brother's friend's sister" stage the way you might be "friends" with your parents' friend's kids, you know? Like, yeah, you guess you're friends with them, but it's nothing serious or real. That's how I view their relationship. I'm not averse to being persuaded to ship them (in fact, I'd like to have them explained to me; they have cute art!) but I have tried and ehhh?? Doesnt do much for me, sorry, Franmaya 😔

Oooo sure, I'd be happy to share my thoughts!

It's funny, I actually wasn't as into this ship my first time through the trilogy. It wasn’t like I disliked it, per se, I just hadn’t really cared one way or another. I think the biggest reason for that is that, in the grand scheme of things, Maya and Franziska really don’t interact all that much? I’m trying to think how many conversations they’ve had in the games, and really, the only one that comes to mind is the conversation about Miles. And I know not everyone cares about that kind of stuff, and if it doesn’t matter to you that’s perfectly fine, but usually it takes a good deal to get me invested in a ship.

That’s not to say there was nothing in the games at all. Even though they don’t talk directly, there’s still plenty there. Maya talks about how amazing it is that she and Franziska are the same age, yet Franziska is so cool and confident and successful. She clearly has plenty of admiration for Franziska. And conversely, we have the scenes in Trials and Tribulations with Franziska, and it’s very easy to see that she does care about Maya’s wellbeing. She worries about Maya being locked in that cave, to the point where she’s up all night frantically trying to open the locks, she seems so relieved when Maya is brought back safe and sound.

(Also there’s that part where Franziska is saying something mean to Larry and Maya glares at her and she’s like like “But uh the art is fine I guess.” Like that? That right there? That’s perfect. That’s so funny, and genuine, and kind of adorable.)

Point I’m trying to make is that I hadn’t really gotten that into this ship until more recently. But it’s grown on me so much for a lot of different reasons. Some of it is art, some of it is just really enjoying the interactions they do have, and heck, some of it is really liking the kind of dynamic they have going on. I’m a sucker for happy-go-lucky chaotic character with stiff, serious, angry character, its a really fun set up for a relationship, platonic or romantic.

But I think what really got me on board with this ship is how similar they are, and how much their similarities and their differences compliment each other. This comic is probably what got me thinking about it at first, but there really is so much to these characters that I think could really draw these to together. (Also this artist is hilarious which is a plus.) They’re both the same age, and both have the weight of a family legacy to uphold, yet Franziska forced herself to become the perfect prosecutor she thought she needed to while Maya spent so long thinking herself incapable or incompetent. Maya forces herself to be upbeat and happy for the people around her, while Franziska lashes out and pushes people away, both I think to the detriment of their own happiness. They have very different personalities, but I think those contrasting personalities really compliment each other. And I think they already admire each other a lot in game. I didn’t mention this point earlier, but near the end, Franziska and Miles are both shocked by Maya’s ability to bounce back so quickly after Bridge to the Turnabout, and I think that ability to smile through the pain is something Franziska admires.

And last but not least, I think Franziska would do to have someone like Maya in her life, and vise versa. Really, Franziska’s only support system purported in these games is Miles, and both she and Miles grew up with the very toxic mindset that Manfred instilled in them of perfection above all else. I think someone like Maya could really help her grow past that, learn to value her own enjoyment and happiness, learn to capture some of that inner child that she abandoned to become a prosecutor at thirteen. Meanwhile, I think Maya could use a bit of that von Karma confidence in her life. Someone who’s no nonsense and down to earth, and someone who cares for and admires her for those traits that make Maya Maya.

Dear starry-nightengale and Anonymous,

Mod Edgeworth: First off, that wasn’t me that wrote the mod commentary tags. That was Mod Justice. He was supporting my interpretation of Franziska’s response to the letter, not Franziska’s response itself. The tags are in third person, not first, so it would be weird of the tags were from the one answering the letter. I will let him explain his side after I’m done answering mine, but he is allowed to like or not like a ship.

Admittedly, neither of us like Franmaya, but that doesn’t automatically mean we completely agree with the character Franziska 100%, let alone that anyone who ships it are perverts. That would kinda make us hypocrites? 

Speaking of over-the-top, yes, Franziska is the kind of person to accuse someone of being a pervert like it’s candy. She even accused her little brother Miles Edgeworth of being a pervert, because he asked a witness how long she was in the hot tub. She makes overreacting and over-the-top accusations off of trivial things. That’s who she is.

I can only assume you read the tags and mistook me agreeing with Franziska when it was Mod Justice complimenting my letter. If that’s the case, no, our thoughts don’t completely match the characters, since they may exaggerate or overreact. While it happens rarely, some mod commentaries are not always done by the same mod that responded to the letter. Other than that, so what if I have a fictional character call Franmaya fans perverts? Anyone that’s never had a wet dream or perverted thought in their lives may cast the first stone. At least I can admit to having perverted thoughts and make fun of myself for it. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to go and search for some Narumitsu and Kagemairi hentai.

First of all: bold of you to assume that the AAA Mod(s) making the “Mod Commentary” tags in our responses and the Mod(s) making the responses themselves.

Second of all: While the opinions of certain AA characters regarding events and fandoms may be similar to ours, SIMILARITY DOES NOT EQUAL EXACTNESS.

Third: Normally, I like certain “ships.” HOWEVER, regardless of ANYONE’S opinion on particular “ships,” a common theme across the Internet regarding said “ships” is that it has to have SOMETHING in the “Rule 34” category. fav thing: SO MANY THINGS! the potential for her to have an INCREDIBLE arc about recovery from abuse by struggling with her relationship between perfection and the choice between forging her own future or her father’s future. her being trucy‘s aunt—spoiling trucy rotten and seeing a softer, more protective side of her. how much she loves miles and looks up to him, but would never say it.

least fav thing: the games forgetting her after aa2!! there’s so many fun relationships she could have that we’re being deprived of! my fav potential ones are her being a support for klavier to lean on after kristoph is executed (she’s been thru it before with mvk and is one of the only people who can provide true empathy there) and her friendship with simon (which I wrote about in another post here)

fanon pet peeve: not all, but MOST of the franmaya tagged fics on ao3 are for background franmaya in a wrightworth fic. it drives me insane as someone who just desperately wants to see these two lesbians together. i LOVE wrightworth too!! but sometimes being a wlw seeking wlw content in fan spaces makes me wanna scream 🙃

Miles

fav thing: again, SO MANY THINGS! His complicated relationship with guilt, self loathing and atonement after aa1 is super compelling to me (and something i super hardcore relate to with the ex catholic guilt). I think he’d have a really hard time figuring out the difference between atoning for his mistakes and punishing himself for them. like franziska, I love that he invents his own future after being told what he ought to be by mvk for so long. beyond his general character arc, I also LOVE his friendship with maya (steel samurai nerds 5ever <3) and adore the many fics i’ve read where they run steel samurai discords, tumblrs, ao3 accounts, and attend cons together, often never knowing that they’re interacting with each other in these fan spaces bc they’re Big Dumb ™ (and overly proficient at compartmentalizing bc of the #trauma)

least fav thing: this is more of a complaint with canon than him as a character, but I wish we knew more about his life in the period after the 4th grade trial and before the fawles trial. Also about his life during the 7 year gap. which is probably why these are the periods of time I mostly read/write fic about lol.

fanon pet peeve: I genuinely hate that so many fan voice actors cast him with a british accent. I know it’s just “default posh” but the man’s from japanifornia & germany lol. ALSO when fanon makes him into a twink. like, have you SEEN his sprite? the man has a brick wall for a torso. solid. huggable. though don’t let anyone else know the formidable chief prosecutor is a softie who gives out hugs to his giant gaggle of adopted children, it’ll ruin his austere image

Phoenix

fav thing: HUMAN WRECKING BALL OF A MAN I LOVE HIS STUPID ANTICS AND PASSION!! Eating the poison necklace, getting hit by a car, falling through a burning bridge... Most of these have to do with his dedication to someone he loves—and when he loves something or someone, he goes in with all his heart!! I also just love how fucking smart he is which I talk about here.

least fav thing: I really don’t like phoenix’s characterization (or character model) in aa5. first off, the character model is so fuckign ugly, dead fish eyes ew. I haven’t played aa6 yet, but to me aa5 is a huge misstep for the franchise. the game gave us the format change of 3D art, rather than adding in the format change it promised at the end of the game. where’s the MASON/juror system he worked so hard on? don’t get me wrong, it gave me things I love (athena and simon and aura), but at the cost of tanking the progress with phoenix’s character arc. and phoenix taking the lead sometimes really diverts needed energy away from apollo and ESPECIALLY athena.

fanon pet peeve: I have a few that irk me with phoenix.

that people characterize him as stupid when he outsmarted kristoph

people make him an incompetent cook. phoenix is someone who goes through money troubles frequently, and I think bc of that he’s had to learn how to cook at least decently well. I personally think he gives apollo and athena masters classes on how to cook on a budget (like, he has a packet drawer like the guy on buzzfeed who does the budget recipes) and everyone’s like “mr wright thank u but please take some well paying cases and quit the pro bono for a sec you deserve to not have to think about this” and phoenix promptly ignores it bc, again!! his heart is too big for his got damn chest!!!

i’m not naming names but there are some popular pre-wrightworth fics i’ve read that have phoenix get jealous of apollo and klavier getting together. I just can’t get behind it. phoenix is apollo’s dad figure. romantic jealousy? it’s bad, bud.

-Franz and Maya have their first date at Maya’s favorite burger joint!! -Maya would definitely ask Franz out first!! Franz is also a complete wreck and just. Kinda finds Miles after getting asked out and literally just cries out of joy

-They both experience a lot of growth during the relationship. They’ve both got a lot of issues and trauma, but they can work through it together!!

-For their first valentine’s day together, Franz gets a reservation at a really fancy german restaurant and Maya doesn’t know how to pronounce any of it so Franz orders for both of them and they have a very nice time!!

-UH SONGS!! Some happy ones that remind me of them are Grow as We Go by Ben Platt, Monster from Adventure Time (specifically the King Princess ver), and Seventeen from Heathers!!

-Franz is definitely the one to propose. She’d do it at a very important place to both of them, but also somewhere very pretty. Miles and Phoenix would both be aware and fully supportive

-Miles walks Franz down the aisle, because Manfred sucks and I literally hate him so much!

-Maya forces Franz to watch Steel Samurai with her, and though she won’t admit it, Franz secretly really enjoys it!!

-Gonna do some music HCs for both of them because... i listen to a lot of music!! Maya would listen to a lot of Beach Bunny, as well as a decent amount of Dodie. Franz would listen to classical because that’s what she was raised on, but also really likes video game and show soundtracks!! They both listen to a LOT of Penelope Scott.

-Angst songs!!! Ugly by Nicole Dollanganger is definitely something Maya would sing to Franz, and In Case You Don’t Live Forever by Ben Platt is definitely a more sad song that works for them.

-As for more angsty headcanons for them, I hc that Franz has some bad internal homophobia and also suffers from anorexia. Maya helps her through both of these, as well as they both get therapy because they need it.

-Maya definitely has some bad Survivor’s Guilt because of what happened in 1-2 and with her mother. I also like to imagine that she stress eats, because her eating habits are mentioned a bit too much in the games for me to not read deeply into.

favorite thing about them

definitely her optimism. i think that in a lot of cases, phoenix never would have gotten through them without maya's support, and he thinks about that part of her even when she's not there. honestly it's the basis of their whole relationship -- maya was optimistic enough to believe that phoenix was more than just a rookie, even though it took a while. and i love that this also often translates to her being the comic relief, which is something that female characters don't necessarily get to do a lot!

least favorite thing about them

this isn't really a character flaw and i know it kinda goes against what i just said lol but i wish we got to see maya break down more. not just because i like angst but also because i think it makes her optimism even more potent and meaningful that she chooses to feel that way even though she has had so many bad things happen to her. sometimes her incredible narrative complexity gets drowned out a little in favor of her being funny and i just wish the balance was a little better.

i REALLY love the art that was released for the 20th anniversary. i'm not gonna put the whole picture here because it's huge but i think a lot of official art of maya makes her look REALLY young (we were talking about this in a discord server today how aa doesn't depict ages very well dfjhdhf) and i think that this one actually makes her look like, late teens. plus i think it's so cute that she's holding hands with ? susato i think? from dgs :sob:
