something interesting i realized while on the vessel-making screen in the deltarune introduction is that it's physically impossible to make kris: there is no hair that perfectly matches theirs (none have the cowlick or the right jagged shape on the bottom), and there is no sweater that perfectly matches theirs (none have a single stripe). this is fascinating, as it perhaps suggest that, if we (the player) had a choice, we *wouldn't* make kris. they aren't something we want, or are even capable of wanting, rather something we're stuck with.
and i suppose the fact that they can't be *created* as a vessel is telling, because we didn't create kris -- they weren't made for us, they're not a player avatar. they're a pre-existing person we just happen to gain possession of.
we weren't made for each other; they don't want us, and we don't seem to want them either (if the inability to choose to create someone like them says anything); funny, then, that in a way we're "soulmates"...
(both pictures are from the deltarune wiki!)

ok I want to get back to this wip eventually and I don't have anything to share anyway (because uni is killing me but hey i did 3/5 of big assignments) so .... Vegas wip is here again (I might already posted this snippet)
set in 6x18
They eat in silence, but Buck can feel Eddie looking at him and trying to decide what to say.
“You can ask me anything, Eds,” Buck sees Eddie swallow the last piece of sandwich and sips his water, then looks straight into Buck's eyes.
“How do you feel? You hit your head pretty bad as you lost consciousness for a second,” Eddie could try to hide how worried he is, but he's tired and, honestly, he doesn't want that at all. Buck deserves to know that people care about him. That Eddie cares about him.
“My head is ok, just a little pain. I still don’t feel dizzy or nauseous,” Buck says quietly, after which he turns his full attention to Eddie.
“I promise I’m ok, but if I feel even a little bit strange I'll let you know right that moment,” they both know what Buck is hiding behind those words. “I remember you told me what my death did to you. I promise that I will tell you if something is wrong without hiding it.”
Buck looks from Eddie's eyes to his ribs.
“But now I’m more concerned about your ribs. You do understand that with a crack on the rib, you should rest no less than with a broken rib, right? Because you should understand I will not let you do more than just rest in your bed or on the couch and watch TV or read something. I will let you go only to the toilet, shower, or backyard where you're only allowed to sit on the porch or on the grass. Nothing else,” Buck says it all with a confidence that makes Eddie think that if he doesn't, Buck will tie him to the bed.
Not that one day he would mind being tied to the bed if Buck tied him up. But now it's definitely not a conversation about sexual adventures.
Eddie just smiles, looking at the man he loves, who finishes his sandwich, not looking at him in return.
“Buck,” Eddie starts but is abruptly interrupted by Buck.
“No, Eddie, it's not even up for discussion. You're a medic and you should know that cracks in the ribs are insidious. If they don't heal properly they can lead to internal bleeding or,” Eddie is not even surprised that Buck already knows all the possible consequences of his injury.
His incessant thirst for knowledge and a huge heart that cares so much about people, and somehow very much about Eddie, were and remain one of the main reasons why Eddie fell in love with him.
But he stops Buck before he starts a real lecture about cracked ribs, fueled by Buck's anxiety.
“Buck, I was just going to say thank you,” and it’s not a lie.

THE BROTHERS PAOLO AND VITELLOZZO VITELLI
man. the fucking. cycles of violence going on here. war, condottieri brothers, the execution of paolo vitelli (but the on the matter of guilt: questionable! no proof besides the absence of potential violence, but what conspiracy-betrayal wants to leave behind proof? torture and execute him anyway. maybe machiavelli has a point! unfortunately you left a surviving brother), the congiura della magione, all of it coming together at the strage di senigallia. just blood and gore and war all the way down, never stopping for a breather, already on to it's next battlefield. also malaria is there!
in other news! it turns out if you want to draw a comic about the strage di senigallia, you have to figure out designs for all the people in the room, but if you draw vitellozzo, you also have to draw his brother because he's like. there. in a dead way. something something vitellozzo's desire to avenge his brother manifesting in his desire to brutalize florence for their role in his brother's death.
that said, I did not want to draw military armor for an illustration that was partially designed to test out some splatter brushes. in the future though….I will have to revisit that visual…..

I would like to share with you a story from my time at Yonsei University in South Korea:
The Americans arrived about 4-5 days early, giving everyone a few schedule-free days to deal with jetlag and get acclimated before our Korean roommates arrived.
First semester, I had issues with my roommates keeping the room insanely hot (like, they kept the room so hot that laptops would overheat), mainly via the floor heater. My roommates had more flaws than good points and were actually banned from the program for academic reasons.
All I was told about second semester was that they actually put special focus on who my roommates would be, as a sort of apology for how bad mine were.
So, second semester, my first roommate arrives, a small and adorably doll-like girl whose English name was Sophia. Sweet, cute, almost cartoonishly high-pitched voice. She comes in and in the most angelic tone goes "Do you like it hot or cold?" I answered cold, and she grinned and said "Me too!" and walked over to the coil where the floor heater connected to power, slammed her designer stiletto heel into it so hard the whole thing dented at a right angle, and destroyed that thing, never to work again.
Then very sweetly and just as cheerfully said "Oops! It was like that when we both arrived :)"
And like, yeah, sure, whatever you say, psychopath who is now sleeping 3 feet from my skull.
Sophia had arrived early, the other 2 roommates were coming the next morning, and so we go to bed about an hour after meeting.
At 2 in the morning, I wake up to feel someone touching me. Sophia was pulling my blankets up to my chin (they'd apparently fallen when I rolled over). In a white nightgown with long black hair obscuring her face, illuminated only by a sliver of light through the curtains like a demon from a horror movie.
And in her sweet, high-pitched Poppy Playtime kind of doll-like voice she sing-songs "Sssh~ Go to sleep~~~"
I have never gone
from 97% asleep
to so very wide awake
so quickly
in my entire life.

The clear contrast between the lives Ryder and Shepard had growing up. The life on earth Ryder took for granted, not only being allowed to grow up on the homeplanet, but lead a comfortable life as a respected citizen. That their family was well off, it's only the mother's medical costs and SAM's research which ate up at Alec's saving.
How the only way for Shepard to have a resemblance of a connection to earth was to surrender to being orphaned, a kid left to fend for themselves on the street, joining gangs and living in the gutters in their earthborn background.
The other two options being tossed into a random colony and watching their parents slaughtered by slavers at the age of 16, or never allowed a stable home, moving from place to place because of the parents work in the alliance, busy and absent from Shepard's life.
That Ryder got to have all three, a family with loving parents, a stable home, being a citizen of Earth. Leading a cushy life in the megatropolises of the homeplanet while earthborn Shepard was rotting on the very same streets not far off.
The same planet Shepard has to defend in ME3, the one that either starved them, never wanted them to begin with, or robbed them out of spending time with their parents who worked all their life to service it.
The innocence and naivety of Ryder is a luxury Shepard was never granted, the blissful ignorance of the cruel world during their years of development. The fact the universe did everything in its power to kick Shepard down, who never had a soul to protect them, in all possible lifetimes, not a single one has a Shepard who hasn't been forced to suffer while far too young.
Despite it all, they still survived.
