weekly recap: week 01 [30.12.24-05.01.25]

i decided to start doing weekly recaps as a way to keep myself accountable not only with language learning but with all my studying in general. So, peep my new rug and Pikku Myy cup, as well as the moomin calendar i got for christmas! let's see:

As I said in my last Finnish update, I hadn't been doing much this past weeks. I've restarted again, but I'm aware this two months are not gonna be the best, since I need to focus in all my tests happening in February. Still, I wanna try and find time for it everyday, even if its just couple minutes.

I'll add the tracker of what I did this week (only started counting the 1st tho) but yeah managed to get a session of active studying and one of writing besides my immersion. I'll continue my lessons next week so looking forward to that.

My degree

To be honest I don't normally have to spend much time with this. I only have three subjects this year, and since I'm studying online and have no classes I don't need to do much during the year. The only stressful times are when I have to turn in papers and exams. This being said, I do need to turn in papers next two weeks, and I have my midterms at the start of February, so I am indeed stressed :D

I started revising the content for one of the subject's paper, which is already something. I usually get decently good grades without much stress since its the second degree im doing in the topic and almost everything sounds familiar already, but last two papers with this teacher didn't go that well (imo bc of her way aka inexisting way of explaining the papers) so im kinda pissed off :D

I didn't need good grades in this degree since its kinda useless having already my previous one, but since there's the possibility of going in erasmus again i want good grades to hopefully get into the program again. Soo, this next weeks I gotta grind and start doing the papers as well as start working on the units.

Hygieniapassi test

New addition! Since my plan is to move to Finland hopefully this year (still don't know how or when but we're getting there) and getting a job of my area (media production) is impossible without experience anywhere, I'd need to get a regular no studies entry level job and I thought I could make things easier for myself and get it before the move. I'm going there late February, so thats my deadline!

Actually signed up today for the exam. I have been working on the material in the app for the past two weeks ish, I only have two courses left to copy into my notebook (I physically can't retain any info if I don't write it myself) so I'm hoping to finish them before my papers are due! I still have to work on a schedule so I have time for everything, but pretty happy so far.

Christmas rush is coming to an end, but we have an inventory coming soon, which means extra hours and extra stress. Not the most ideal thing with all the studying I have to do, but we'll survive i guess :'D

hobbies & social life

To be honest I don't have much time for hobbies these days, but that's something I wanna change. Went to see Nosferatu with a friend at the start of the week (loved it) and we have another 3 movies lined up for the next weeks (can you tell i love going to the cinema). Also planning couple meet ups with different friend groups, this doesn't happen often since couple of them we don't see eachother in months, but seems like everything's happening at the same time. Stressful, but happy to get to see them!! Also meeting with my bookclub, so gotta finish the book of the month at some point.

Also something I'm super excited about, booked my flights to Finland!! Already mentioned I was going in February but actually having the flights its a life changer when it comes to waiting. Can't wait to be back 😊

VATER pt 2 update!!

Ok wow that was a longer hiatus than I initially intended but I can now OFFICIALLY say that the planning for part two of VATER is finally done and I'm really happy with it :)

I can't promise anything for at LEAST the next month or two but I do have every intention of getting back into writing for it as soon as possible and going back to my regular schedule of a chapter a week (along with some art). HOWEVER for my own sanity there will probably be a few mini hiatuses here and there so I don't get too swamped at any point in time :)

I can't wait to start posting again though! ALSO expect more animatics I've got several ideas for some throughout the thing and I will be working to improve the quality of them I have found a better program to do them on (honestly reediting the ones I did previously isn't off the table either those kind of don't look the best but we'll see)

I'll see you guys soon with the first chapter of VATER pt 2! At the moment, it's working title is "Sins of His Name," or SOHN for short.

So chickbang is going to get bigger? How soon after they hatch will you be able to get them?

Yes, the Chickbang family will grow. But I’m discontinuing the Big Bang theme. And before anyone thinks it, no, this is not in response to recent events lol, I’ve had this planned for months. I’m going with a completely different naming convention this time. These lil’ fuzzies don’t even exist yet and already I have every one of their names picked out 🐥

The reason I’m having to wait so long is I’ve ordered some uncommon breeds that are available in limited quantity for only a few months of the year. All I can do is keep telling myself they’re worth the wait! Although, now that you mention it, I’m not sure if 3/31 is their hatch date or my pickup date. Either way, to answer your question, I should be able to pick them up within 2-3 days of hatching. It’s common practice to ship baby poultry through the US Postal Service because the chicks don’t require food or water for the first few days of their lives. Usually this is all fine and good, but there is of course the risk of delays, which, sadly, can and does end in chicks DOA, and that’s not a risk I’m willing to take, especially since I’m getting so few (just one of each breed). Somewhat conveniently, the hatchery is only a 2-hour drive away and happens to be near somewhere I travel for work periodically, so the plan is to pick up my peeping bundle box of joy in person and deliver them safely home myself, secure on the passenger seat of my car. The last 48 hours just seem to have flown by tbh.

Lily went in for surgery yesterday early AM (not like anything bad or for an emergency, this has been in the works for awhile so no worries there!). Everything went great and she's resting now here at home, though Ivy is probably the most thrown off out of all of us because her cuddle buddy is out of commission for the time being. Couldn't risk her jumping up on Lily afterwards so I made a bed on the couch in the game room for her and that way I can shut the door to keep Ivy out. I've been trying to make sure she still gets plenty of playtime and love while her mom is recovering, though she still puts up a little fuss when we're both blocked off from her. All in all, I'm just glad things have been going as well as they have so far. Lily's pain has been manageable and she had her usual sense of humor back not even an hour after coming home. I've managed to make a comfortable makeshift bed on the floor next to the couch so that I could be close by in case she needs anything in the night, Lily's managed to find a way to enjoy bland saltines as a snack in the short term, so together we're gonna keep pushing forward one day at a time!

↳ heartbreaks i'm gonna address this first because i already wrote a very emotional post about it (that i sort of regret doing now).

the breakup scene was painful to watch but pushing my attachment aside, nothing felt out of place. they showed us the whys and hows of youngwoo making this decision, how much it actually hurts her. junho is capable of being upset, and him snapping like that isn't ooc either. and to really push the angst in deep, they showed us the breakup scene in the middle of the episode followed by the aftermath aka the YEARNING. and we'll get more of that in the next ep.

i honestly thought they'd leave it at the very end, but this is better, i think? because we saw that there's still hope. there's room to talk and work things out because they still, clearly, like each other very much. this is all just a block on the road they need to kick away.

(i'm way too emotionally attached to this relationship, so if it doesn't end in marriage i'll riot)

junho getting cutesy pouty drunk was funny, and then pair it up with geurami and minsik singing a song about breakups.

but youngwoo the entire time :( her first heartbreak. at the plane back to seoul, when they focused on her fixing her seatbelt because junho reminded her to wear it properly in the last ep, WHAT WAS THE REASON??? she misses him so much but she doesn't do anything about it because she wants to do what she thinks is best for junho.

i also can't believe that it was minwoo who gave junho a somehow rational reason as to why she broke up with him. i don't like agreeing with him. i was almost going to give him a chance then and there, BUT of course, he just had to say that breaking up was for the best because junho "can't handle youngwoo," and then we're back to regular scheduled programming of hating his ass.

imzeroclock on twt provided a translation of his slip up, and he was actually referring to the secret of her birth. it sets up what's about to happen next week.

overall, eunbin and taeoh did great! i'm still BROKEN. seeing them apart while eating was painful. (if we get lunch scenes where they're sitting in different tables next week but all they keep doing is steal glances at each other, i'm gonna scream)

but, again, i want to have hope - even if that failed me last time. but it was clear this time around. there's still a chance. they'll be okay.

↳ hanbadaz myeongseok's babies are all grown up!

after the offer myeongseok made to the abbot, the three rookies were inspired and had done something similar for the haengbok noodles owner. youngwoo's words of affirmation to myeongseok was what he needed, and seeing these two's mentor-mentee relationship bloom is so wholesome and the best thing about ep 14.

bless youngwoo for not giving up on trying to find the owner all for the sake of myeongseok. we're seeing her shine brighter each episode, becoming more aware of the people around her and their needs. i love her character so much.

the squad eating noodles was a heartwarming scene, and although it can be read that something bad might happen to myeongseok like he's saying goodbye, i don't think they can fit that in the last two eps. next week will all be about youngwoo and overcoming everything that was thrown at her.

which is why i feel like myeongseok's arc is complete now? he won't be working in the next ep because he'll undergo surgery and is hopefully recovering. that's why the rookies are under atty jang now. but i hope he comes back soon.

no major comments about minwoo and suyeon. it was bound to happen. if that becomes a tool to shape minwoo's arc, then sure whatever. but i know that suyeon liking minwoo won't change her love and urge to protect youngwoo from him. (she still deserves better because he's still an ableist asshole)

geurami tho T-T i'm glad she's going to start getting over minwoo!! you deserve better babie! if it's mr hairy, then i'll root for you two!

i remember when she acted so shocked that papa gwangho would assume that she hired youngwoo to use her against taesumi, AND YET

i'm not siding with either ceo han or taesumi. i hope myeongseok and his kids leave at some point and ceo han's schemes are uncovered. i hope taesumi doesn't get the position. although, i do feel more sympathetic towards taesumi because of her past. but how she's acting towards youngwoo is rubbing me off the wrong way.

i'm on youngwoo's side through and through. i hope she defeats them both.

with everything that youngwoo's been through, she'll get through the aftermath of whatever plan ceo han has. she has her friends by her side, thank god for suyeon and geurami, but we all know she's tough and badass on her own. SHE'S A SMART BADDIE

(that preview tho. i'm a sucker for tropes where character A is in danger and character B, hopelessly in love with A, overcome with worry, runs to protect them. GIVE ME AN HOUR OF THAT)

anyway. is ep 14 a bad ep? i'm torn to be honest. i wish we didn't get angst, but i also want to give it a chance and see where they lead with it. the entire jeju-do trip was heartbreaking and then heartwarming, a whole rollercoaster. but i enjoyed a lot of the scenes in it and i'm currently an emotional wreck.

do i think it's rushed? we'll see i guess? it's hard to say it is with finality when there are still 2 eps left. but if they squeeze in too much drama in the final ep and not a lot of junho and youngwoo being domestic and married, then yes it is.

I'm back from my vacation!💕 Soon we'll be getting (hopefully) back to our regular scheduled programming, but I wanted to introduce you all to one of my upcoming muses because I couldn't stop thinking about her on my way back.

Meet Maeve, (she/her; fc: Chappell Roan), a siren who was ever so curious about the human world beyond all the ships she had seen. So one day she checked it out for herself, despite all the warnings and concerns from her friend. One day turned into two and more as she explored the first place she had visited. Eventually, she was set on a journey to become a pirate captain sailor and recruited her own crew. Perhaps it was because she ran into one annoying pirate at a bar who claimed women didn't have what it takes to be a part of their crew. Perhaps it was because that night she broke that guys nose and a few other bones. Perhaps it was because she wanted to prove them wrong, and to show that they can make it even better than them. So most of her crew consisted of other women, but pretty much everyone was allowed on the ship as long as they stayed respectful. Most of them were also other sirens or supernatural beings looking for an adventure. Yet nobody knew what they were truly. That fact made them more dangerous than they might potentially appear. They were quite unpredictable too. So as time passed, more and more pirate crews and sailors started getting scared of them and prayed that they never run into them in the sea. The Daughters of the Sea had no problem sinking a ship or two if they needed to. Meanwhile, on their adventures, Maeve came up with an idea, she and her crew could make some appearances whenever they reached land. Apart from treasure hunting, and looking for new thrills, Maeve and her group organized a sort of performance troupe that performed every once in a while at random festivals and so on, quickly gaining popularity among the locals. They never gave too much information about themselves, though. It was better that way.

Maeve is in the same universe as my Till Kingdom Come muses and has run into Jum in his pirate verse a few times before and after he became a pirate himself. At that time she had offered him a ride on her ship, she could tell that he needed an escape, but he turned her offer down, not quite ready to leave yet. But their meeting was one of the final pushes for him to run away. Years later they met again far far away from the place Jum was burn and became friends. More or less, as it wasn't often his crew and hers were in the same location at the same time and didn't talk during those periods of time.

Personal adult life stuff

Hubby and I have been trying for baby number two for months. Found out that I'm absolutely not pregnant today, so I've been having a sad day.

Haven't cleaned the house at all, didn't cook any dinner, and started drinking after baby number 1 was in bed. It's just been one of those days. Just needed a sad day to wallow and tomorrow I'll be fine.

Said all this to Hubby when he got home from work and he hmm'd in understanding, kissed me on the forehead, and accepted the ready meal I had bought for him earlier. I'm glad he accepted that I needed a day to get over it and I love him for not making a big fuss about it.

My sad day is over and now it's back to regular scheduled programs and back to normal. We'll keep trying, and hopefully it will happen for us soon. I hate to think that we wouldn't be able to have another kid, but if that's the way life goes then at least I have a pretty amazing daughter.
