keep seeing this reference post for artists going around that links to that same damn photographic height/weight chart i've been seeing since at least 2010, which is...idk. possibly useful on an extremely basic level for getting a sense of the way bodies can be shaped, but whenever someone refers to it as an objective measurement tool - "this is what 5'6" & 220lbs looks like" - it really gets my hackles up

it's super not!! that photo is what that person looks like at 5'6" & 220lbs. so much of how fat is distributed is genetic, & varies spectacularly from person to person - not to mention differences in muscle mass, which folks generally fail to consider when thinking about weight! the photos on that site are overwhelmingly white, mostly cis women, & generally not even very good in terms of giving you visual information - on the upper end, you get lots of blurry shots of people in clothes that hide their bodies as much as possible. all the photos to a certain degree self-select for people with more "acceptable" forms of fat distribution - there aren't enough photos to give you an actual sense of the range & possibilities for each height/weight

also you've got a bunch of people talking about their own bodies under the photos so for every neutral or positive self-representation there are multiple folks talking weight loss, diet culture, etc. - which is whatever, but it would be nice to just let people know it's not gonna be free of fatphobia or safe for folks with eating disorders

idk i worry that it's both not a good artistic resource & potentially just a really easy stick for people to beat themselves with. if someone wanted to remake the project it would need to be done really carefully & thoughtfully - i might actually like to see one with a real diversity of subjects but i think we should maybe let this one fade into internet history

Angela AngelWolf's (a.k.a mine) monstrous form resembles a canine tall creature, cloaked in split shade: dark green on the right side and dark purple/eggplant on the opposite side fur.
