One Last Time

Saturday was the final day of the Theakston Nidderdale League for 2024...and I headed to Sicklinghall.
You can read all about the day on John Fuller's Cricket Yorkshire - it features some exclusive images as well.

It was great to be at a game involved in promotion...and with so many potential outcomes for Thornton-le-Moor, Ripley, and Sicklinghall - it was a tough one to decided where to go!
Tumblr media
I think it was lucky to be involved at the game that mattered, with Sicklinghall going up by the difference in the net run rate.

The season may have just finished, but planning for the indoor winter leagues is underway and so is the planning for summer 2025.
If I've visited a game you've been involved in and taken photos, they are available to purchase either as a social media download or in print format.

A article about the season just gone is currently being written and a larger pictorial look-back is being put together for later on this year...keep an eye out for both!
Tumblr media
So, with the games scheduled for this Sunday all marked as conceded...my outdoor grassroots season appears to be at an end. Thank you to all the clubs that welcomed me this summer - the final count hasn't been completed, but it it certainly over 60 games!

That's Final!
Tumblr media
What Came Before
I always feel disappointed when fixtures don’t get completed, especially when one team gets to bat, but the game doesn’t finish because it is interrupted due to the weather.
The Yorkshire Cricket Board’s Finals Day at Weetwood and Headingley was meant to be a showcase for women’s cricket in Yorkshire, but the weather had other ideas…disrupting the schedule, allowing only one game to complete in a reduced sets format.
The day itself was full of positivity, with plenty of smiles, conversations, and a small amount of cricket. But to be honest, it certainly felt like unfinished business. So, when Grace Pearson and the team at the YCB hastily put together an alternative the following week – I knew I had to pop along.
Tumblr media
I’d visited Walton Park only a few weeks ago to cover the Theakston Nidderdale Ingilby Shield game, my first time at the ground and one that I enjoyed enormously. The cricket club has a wonderful setting – beautifully laid out, with a good size playing surface, and a traditional looking pavilion sitting in one corner overlooking the entire ground.
Last week Sessay Emeralds had played Sheffield Collegiate Women, putting in the sort of dominant display that has seen them win the Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket League 40 Over competition, and progress to the Hundred Final.
Doncaster Town Women had managed to get their innings played at Headingley, but as the final few sets were being played, rain started once more, and Saxton were unable to get out and bat in response.
Semi Final Replay
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast forward a week and Doncaster strode out to the centre to replay their innings, playing the same reduced overs format that Sessay and Sheffield had at Headingley.
By the very nature of the format played, a combination of the large playing surface and general Autumnal conditions…scores were always going to be on the lower side. Doncaster managed to reach 44 runs from their ten sets, but I will be honest, I couldn’t work out if that was a defendable score or not.
Saxton’s response was impressive, obviously determined to get to the final. A series of early boundaries meant that they quickly made inroads to the required total, which they reached in around the sixth set.
The game seemed like it was over in a blink of an eye! The final was primed, Sessay would be taking on Saxton.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One Final Game
Sessay won the toss and decided to bat, the game returning to the usual 100-ball format, and I was looking forward to seeing the Emeralds play.
Tumblr media
Initially, Sessay stroked the ball around the ground picking up boundaries to score heavily. Trudy Johnson seemed so at home in the centre, playing some superb shots on her way to 80 runs from just 44 deliveries. Trudy had hit nine fours and three massive sixes before being bowled by Imaan Effendi.
Slowly the excellent bowling of Saxton started to restrict the powerful Sessay hitting, and the run rate dropped considerably. By the end of the innings, Sessay had reached 136 for three – would that be enough to win the cup?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saxton got off to a faltering start – losing a wicket in the first set and struggling over the first five sets to score runs. However, whereas Sessay had hit big to start with, Saxton were picking up one or two runs nearly every ball and slowly building their response.
The Emeralds took a second wicket in the tenth set, but by that time, Saxton had around 50 runs and were looking like they could catch the total posted for them to chase.
The wicket seemed to have only a slight effect on their chase, dropping from an average of around one run per delivery to scoring about four runs per set. It would need someone to find a boundary or two to get them back on track.
Rhia Sedha looked like she could be the one to kick-on and score those boundaries, but two sets later she departed on 24 having mistimed a hit and being caught by Sessay’s wicket keeper Olivia Gain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Three sets later and disaster for Saxton as Ellie Harrison has superbly caught and bowled by Clare Fairclough, and with the very next ball Kate Cooper was run out after a fantastic throw by Jasmine Passman.
The wickets disrupted Saxton’s run rate, now being a little behind where they needed to be.
Some big hitting in the next set saw Saxton score 12 runs, but crucially they also lost the wicket of Emily Roberts for just eight.
Scoring eight and six runs in the 18th and 19th sets, Saxton reached 102 going into the last. First ball in the 20th set, Emily Williams was bowled by the excellent Trudy Johnson and the Emeralds claimed their prize – winning the YCB Hundred Trophy by 34 runs.
Tumblr media
I think it is fair to say that Sessay Emeralds thoroughly deserved their success, they played some superb cricket both with the bat and in the field. They will certainly be a team to watch in 2025.
However, it takes more than one team to make a finals tournament, and I can only but have the highest of praise for Sheffield Collegiate, Doncaster Town, and Saxton for the way in which they earned their place in the finals, and for the way they competed at both Headingley and at Walton Park.
Past, Present, Future
I have over the course of the last decade seen women’s cricket develop exponentially. With help of the individual clubs that support their women and girls’ teams, organisations such as the Yorkshire Cricket Board, and even superb sponsors like Marshall Wooldridge Insurance, the game is going from strength to strength.
The progress made in the past few seasons alone has shown that there is a huge appetite for women and girls’ cricket, with the standard of play improving all the time. It is important to have a pathway for players to progress, as it will allow county cricket to have a good pool of players to select from, and ultimately that will also benefit various national teams.
I believe that I’ve seen some future stars playing this season, and I look forward to watching a few of those players potentially progressing to the Northern Diamonds, and maybe one or two representing their country.

I don't know your methodology so I don't know how hard it is to compile the data... but would it be possible to compile the top f/f and m/m ships for the Bridgerton show? I have trouble telling just by looking through because a) there are a lot of ships that are from the crossover media, not from Bridgerton, and b) a lot of them have MANY ships on one fic. However if this would be really hard I would love to see just the top ships for Eloise Bridgerton!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is self-made. Date: 27.07.2024
@zorilleerrant Okay, so... it was a little bit of work but I hope this is what you wanted?
I assume no guarantee or liability for the completeness, correctness and accuracy of this chart despite my best efforts.
Includes fanfictions in all languages available, NOT English only.
The search was done in the Ao3 fandom "Bridgerton (TV)" only, NOT the fandoms "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (TV)", "Bridgerton Series - Julia Quinn" & "Bridgerton (TV) RPF". However stories might be in several of the mentioned fandoms because none of them were excluded specifically.
Percentages were rounded up or rounded down to natural numbers for easier comprehension.
Poly ships were not included.
Ships with OC's were also not included!
More charts will follow. :)
Want to have a chart for different pairings, headcanons etc. in your favourite fandom? Send me an ask!

May The Fourth Be With You
Tumblr media
Saturday 4th of May arrived and with one eye cast at the weather forecast, I headed out to cover my first game of the Theakston Nidderdale League season.
I’d been looking during the week for a game to get to on Saturday when a post from Paul Garton on Twitter/X caught my attention. He’s the groundsman at Kirk Deighton and the photos he had put up showed a ground that looked in superb condition, considering all the rain we’ve had.
Kirk Deighton Cricket Club is situated a stone’s throw from Wetherby and one of the easier grounds for me to get to. My last visit to the club was in 2017 and I thought it was about time that I got reacquainted.
Tumblr media
It’s an easy club to find, from Harrogate head to Spofforth and ‘turn right’ [yes that’s how poor my directions are usually], you will then find the club on your right before you get into the village. Simples!
My Daughter Aibhlinn and I arrived about an hour before first ball and I saw someone putting the final touches to the square, so walked over to make sure the game was still on. It turned out to be Paul and we had a good chat about just how good the ground was.
Tumblr media
I will be honest, I was genuinely impressed by the near-perfect state of the grass, given the huge amounts of rain we’ve endured since September last year. Paul and the other volunteers have done a magnificent job.
The game I was there to cover was the Theakston Nidderdale League division seven game between Kirk Deighton CC 2XI and Knaresborough Forest CC 3XI. Coincidentally, my first game of the Theakston Nidderdale League that I covered last season was at Knaresborough Forest, and there were similar concerns about the playing surface then [I seem to remember the boundary rope there had been brought in and certain parts of the outfield was like standing on jelly].
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knaresborough won the toss and elected to bat under the light grey cloud and subdued light.
Kirk Deighton is a compact ground and one that could promote high scoring games; this wasn’t going to be one of them. Instead, this was one of those interesting games that saw runs being scored in a start-stop fashion and wickets falling regularly.
Munro Goldfield was the stand-out performer for Forest, as he reached 32 from 75 balls, hitting five fours. Antony Brown pitched in with 17 runs from 24 balls, which included two sixes.
Knaresborough managed to post 88 all out in just under 32 overs before tea was taken, and to be honest, it looked a tough total to defend.
Tumblr media
Kirk Deighton came out after the break in good spirits, but that was quickly dampened when David Bowes was bowled by Own Wibberley for 0 after just one ball. Disaster! Maybe this game had a few twists and turns yet!
Tumblr media
The other opener for Kirk Deighton, Qasi Naeem, seemed to settle quickly and although not scoring quickly, looked solid at the crease. Nine runs put on in the first over despite the loss of a wicket and that target did look vulnerable.
Forest bowled well in the next three or four overs, restricting the home team to picking up a few singles and the odd boundary. More importantly, they started to pick up the odd wicket and the score was twenty-something for three; if they could claim a couple more wickets, then the result would be in real doubt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirk Deighton responded with some great hitting, with the ball reaching the boundary fairly regularly to take big chunks out of the required amount. Darren Bowes scored 17 runs from 18 balls; Rick Bower got 14 from 29; and Qasi added a solid 22 in his 71 balls faced.
Wickets were still falling, but with only around 20 required and what seemed like plenty of wickets in hand, the home team appeared to be crusing to a season-opener win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was Nick Ireland who hit the winning runs, reaching 24 from 21 balls faced, including three fours and a six. Kirk Deighton had reached the target of 89, losing seven wickets and winning the game by three wickets.
It had been an enjoyable day covering cricket with no rain and some genuinely good play from the two teams. I realise that this isn’t even close to being the highest level of grassroots cricket, but I generally find that as long as you aren’t expecting big scores and big hitting…then you can get some really friendly, competitive and tense games of cricket to watch.
This was certainly one of them!
It may have been seven years since I’ve been to Kirk Deighton, but it certainly won’t be that long before I pop back to catch another game.
A few additional shots above provided by Aibhlinn (aged 11).

In season one episode 5, the first thing we see at Daphne & Simon’s wedding reception is their cake and the two people closest to it are Lord Wetherby and Cressida Cowper.
Tumblr media
We know that Lord Wetherby is unmarried, titled, and in love with a Sir Granville.
Tumblr media
Later, Penelope points Lord Wetherby out to Marina as an alternative to Colin saying, he had kind eyes and would make a fine enough husband and when the camera pans to him, there’s Cressida again, near him.
Tumblr media
Cressida & Wetherby are viewable in the background when Portia informs Marina that Lord Rutledge was now engaged and that Colin is her only hope.
Tumblr media
They’re seen speaking at the Queen’s luncheon before the Featherington’s are asked to leave.
Tumblr media
And two more times at a concert while Sir Granville and Benedict are speaking about how Sir Granville’s marriage affords his wife the protection of his name and freedom even if their marriage is not a love match.
Tumblr media
I’m thinking if Lord Wetherby is not part of season 3, maybe we’ll find out Lord Debling is looking for precisely that sort of marriage and Penelope isn’t looking for a love match so maybe she’ll think that it’s perfect but if Colin realizes that Debling’s not pursuing Penelope for love and he’s battling his own feelings for her he wouldn’t be able to bear the idea that she’ll marry this man and be devastated when she realizes he will never desire her or love her as a man loves his wife.
Maybe Colin will try to warn Pen that she’s marrying someone with secrets, the way she tried to warn him about Marina and much like he dismissed Pen, she will dismiss him because everyone has secrets, even her and when he discovers what her big secret is, he’s not going to trust another man with Penelope’s future or protection because she is too important to him. Only Colin hasn’t admitted to himself yet that he’s fallen in love with her.
Much like Benedict’s initial reaction to learning of Sir Granville’s marital arrangements, I think we can absolutely expect Colin to question a marriage of convenience for Penelope. What about honor and romance? He will want the best for her and to ensure her happiness no matter what. Maybe Colin will insist that if Penelope is willing to enter into a marriage without the promise of love, she should marry him because he will protect her and be loyal but he’ll also want to give her the romance and devotion he feels she deserves.
