okay im gonna be completely honest with yall and say that my every single try at keeping a journal failed spectacularly and i lost motivation after like a few months so my only journals rn are my fancy fake-leather-bound calendar to note tests and assessments into, a kinda roughed up notebook that i uses for noting down poems or scribbling or passing notes in class, and a kinda fancy bullet journal notebook that i used as a book of shadows for a while but since my fountain pen died i didnt touch it

okay heres the thing. for anyone else both my playlist library and my bookshelf would be considered pure chaos of a mad man b u t they actually have a highly focused system which means that i sort them based on their vibes, lovability and (in case of books) their age and whether or not theyre a part of a series so i would say my bookshelf is rather organised (when a quarter of it isnt occupying my desk that is) and my music is more organised than not but sometimes it gets out of control and i have to sort it entirely again

But luckily you find the note just when you get to your room and that’s a good thing because if you had found it earlier everyone would have to get you checked because you lost your mind crying at his little words

About 2 weeks later, You find BB-8 waiting in the flight deck where Poe left and immediately comfort him, knowing that has such an innocent loyalty to Poe and the resistance

note: ahhh its finally here im so excited for you guys to read this chapter this has personally been the funnest one to write so i hope you all love it!!

 “To be mine.” 

 The words echo in your mind. They were words you had heard before, in a different way. This way hurt the most. Worst. It was the worst you had felt in months. Even that day at the rehearsal didn't hurt this bad. Everything in your life was going so well. You had your parents back. You and Rey finally had a relationship. You were going to prom with your friends, and he just had to go and ruin. You wouldn't let him though. You can't let him. He can't keep doing this to you.

 The tears that had welled up in his eyes were finally falling. You werent saying anything. You werent reacting. You were just watching him. Without a second thought you turn around and walk inside. You werent going to give him the satisfaction of letting him know what he was doing to you. All you wanted was to have an amazing night with your friends. Once you're inside everything is just how you left it. Everyone was talking, and taking pictures. You tried your best to put on a fake smile, and join them. Your grandfather insisted on getting tons of pictures of you, and Elaine. He used the excuse of taking them for Elaine's parents, but you knew it was because he was excited. Your parents hopped in, and began taking pictures of you too. They wanted some of you with them, and your mother insisted on having one of you and Hux. you both oblige, and get next to each other. You werent sure how fancy prom pictures were supposed to go, so you just followed Hux’s lead. 

 Soon after everyone felt like they had enough pictures it was time to go. Everyone was headed out when you realized Ben, and Rey hadn't been back yet. You looked back outside, and saw that somehow Rey got back to him outside without anyone noticing. You walked close to the door, and opened it just a little to hear what they were saying.

“I dont owe you an explanation for anything I do, or why I do it.” he said.

“Then tell me you’re not here for her.” Neither of them said anything.

“Tell me Ben.” silence again.

“C’mon it sounds like everyone’s getting in the car.” he walked around the house. She followed after him. 

 You walked out of the house, and saw them getting in together. Hux was waiting for you by the car. You smiled at him, and walked over.

“You two have fun.” your grandfather said. He looked at your neck, and saw your grandmother's necklace. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes. You hugged him immediately.

“You look so grown my love.” He whispered as he held onto you.

“I love you pop pop.” you pulled away from him, and Hux held his hand out to you to help you in. you take it, and sit down on the seat, and slide over for him to follow after you.

 The inside of the limo had been very spacious.  Something you never would have guessed. It had a bar that had been emptied since everyone wasn't old enough to drink. Not that it ever stopped anyone. The roof had some sort of lighting built into it that was blue, and the carpet matched it. Everyone was chatting away except for Ben, and Rey. They weren't sitting close to each other, and Ben was on his phone while Rey looked out the window. You looked over at Hux who was still trying to find a way to get comfortable while sitting. You felt the car start, and move. 

“Oh, I almost forgot.” He reached over to the bar, and picked up a small box from it. He handed it over to you, and you opened it seeing the corsage he had promised you. You wouldn't admit it to him, but when Rey, and Elaine got theirs you were disappointed Hux didn't have it. It matched perfectly to the dress, and you couldn't be happier. He took the box from your hands, and gently took it out. You held your hand out to him, and he tied it around your wrist. 

“Hux. it's perfect.” you said to him.

“I want tonight to be a night to remember.” He smiled at you. You didn't even realize he was still holding your hand. It just felt. Right. Why is it whenever you did something with Hux it felt good? Like you were made for each other? You didn't feel anything for him. That's the part that hurt the most.

“So what do you want to do once were there?” he placed your hand in your lap, and got closer to you. 

“Well I know I definitely want to do some photos in the photo booth.”

“And, why is that?” you asked.

“I want to have something to remember this night by. If college is anything like high school has been, I'm going to be living in a nightmare. I think a picture of us tonight will remind me of good things. Better days.”

“Hux that's so sweet.” you kiss his cheek without thinking. It was a habit you started a while back. You don't know why, but you loved giving him little kisses every now, and then. You could tell he loved it too. It was just a way to express your fondness while also embarrassing him. He hated pda big time, but you knew he wouldn't stop you from doing it.

 Soon the limo arrived at the venue. There was already a fair amount of people there, you weren't late, but you weren't early either. This meant you all could find a batter table. You all got out of the limo, and you watched as Ben went to the drivers window. He said something then the driver left. 

“Alright once we're ready to go I’ll give him a call, and he can come grab us.” he announced.

 All of you headed in the music from inside was loud enough to hear from the outside. Once you're close to the entrance you see all the decorations that have been put up. They had hung stars from the ceiling, and had put twinkling lights up too. They reminded you of Italy, and you felt warmth in your heart. The doors to the venue had been decorated black with tiny white specks all over it to represent stars. When you walk you're taken back a bit. Above the stage was a decorated moon, the whole place had been decorated with fake candles, and twinkling lights. You looked over at the photo booth, and saw it had a background that looked like a dark forest with a giant moon prop next to it. 

  Rey had left you all to be with her friends, and she dragged Ben along with her. You watched as she walked to Finn, and Poe. They all greeted each other before heading to the table closest to the dance floor. During planning you had secretly planned the perfect table for the group. It was in a corner away from the dancefloor, and it had a perfect view of everything. It was a place where you all could people watch, and not be drowned out by the music. You led the group to the table, and sat down. All of you waited for everyone to arrive before getting up. It was the best way to ensure that nobody would take your table. Rich kids were surprisingly territorial, and once they realized someone else already had it, they wouldn't want it. It took about 30 minutes before you were sure it was safe to leave. 

“There's some girls from the team here. I'm gonna go say hi to them.” Elaine got up, and walked over to the table she had seen them at. Matt stayed back. You all chatted before Hux got up to use the restroom.

“So. want to tell me about what happened at your dorm last week?” Matt asked you.

“We didn't do anything, Matt. I wouldn't do that if we were not even dating.” 

“You guys didn't do anything yet.” 

“What the hell does that mean Solo.” you asked.

“I mean. If you guys did do anything. I think tonight would be the night.” 

“And what would you know about that?” 

“Well. Me and Elaine did get a room tonight.” at first you were confused. Then it hit you. The whole prom was being held at a hotel. 

“Does she know you got one?” Now you were mad. If he had gotten a room without her knowing he was about to get his ass beat.

“We talked about it. A lot. Getting a room here was her idea actually.” 

“It was?” you said in an accusatory tone.

“Hey listen I love Elaine with everything in me. I wouldn't ever dare to pressure her into something this serious. I mean it's our first time. Not just together, but in general. I want it to be special for us, and it can't be special if it's by surprise!”

 He was right. You felt stupid for thinking Matt would do something like that. It's not like him. It's not something he would ever do. 

“Well, are you nervous?” you asked him.

“Extremely. Feel my hands.” he smiled, and held a hand out to you. Upon touching you realized it was slick with sweat. 

“Gross dude.” you said drying your hand on his suit jacket.

“I know I hate it. I just want everything for her to be perfect tonight.” 

“I know Elaine. As long as it's with you it’ll be perfect to her.”

“Thanks. That helps.” 

 You both looked over, and saw her dancing with one of her teammates. You saw Matt smile as he got up, and walked to her. She smiled at him as he approached her. She pulled him down towards her, and kissed him. He smiled at her before she pulled him into the crowd around them. You assumed she had some friends in there, and she wanted to introduce him to them. Even with all those people you can still see a mop of blonde over the crowd. You were alone. Hux wasn’t back, and both your friends had gone to dance. You look around you, and take a moment to see everything happening before you. 

 Ben, and Rey were dancing with Finn, Poe, and another girl. If you remembered correctly her name was Rose. she had just transferred, but her and Finn were best friends. Ben wasn't good at dancing, and he didn't feel comfortable with it you could tell. He kept moving side to side, and occasionally threw in a pretty basic move. It was cute. Matt on the other hand definitely couldn't dance, but he didnt care. He moved around like he was trying to swat a bug out of the air. It was bad. Really bad. But by the look on Elaine's face it was just something else she loved about him. It made you smile.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting. There was a small line.” you look next to you, and see Hux sitting down.

“It's alright. Had some time to watch everyone dance.”

“And what have you concluded from that?” he asked.

“Solo men can't dance.” you pointed over to Matt, then moved your finger to Ben. 

“By the stars they really can't.” 

“So what about that picture?” 

“Ah yes, the photo I almost forgot, lets go.” He stood up, and offered you his hand. 

 He helped you up, and he kept holding on to your hand as he led you to the photo booth. Luckily everyone was dancing so there was no line. The photographer let you know that there were 3 photos in a set.

 For the first one, you both leaned against the moon prop. You made a face for the photo, but he stuck to his awkward smile. The next one he held you. You had one hand against his chest while the other was behind his back. He hand rested lightly on your waist. The last one you rested your head on his shoulder, and closed your eyes. After you heard the flash you opened your eyes again. You rushed over to the photographer, and watched as the photos printed out. He picked them up, and handed them to you. Hux came over to you, and you both decided to head back to the table. You ripped the two sets along the line, and gave him the second set. You sat down as you examined the pictures. The first one was cute. The second one was a very cliche prom picture. The third one is the one that caught your eye.

 Your head was against his chest. You remember how close he held you. He was looking down at you in a way you had only seen very few times. It was the same way Matt looked at Elaine. It was the same way Your grandfather would look at your grandmother. You felt horrible in that moment for not loving him. Your thinking is interrupted by Elaine, and Matt coming back to the table. They were out of breath from dancing, and sweaty. You all took time to talk, and hang out. Soon all of you head back to the dance floor, and dance like nobody was watching. That's where most of your night goes. Dancing with your friends like your life depended on it. It was almost time to go. There was 10 minutes left before prom was officially over. 

 Then a familiar sound filled the air. A song one you had listened to so many times while crying. Video Games by Lana Del Rey had been requested for the slow dance. Almost everyone left the dance floor since most people came with friends. Matt, and Elaine stayed. You saw Finn hold his hand out to Poe at a table. Poe took his hand, and they locked eyes. Both of them walked to the dance floor. You saw Rey drag Ben with her to the dance floor, and almost forced him to hold her.

“Would you care to dance with me?” Hux asked you. You grab his hand, and you both walk over to where Elaine, and Matt were dancing. He took you in his arms, and you both slowly sway along with the music.

“Hux, I just realized you're leaving. Like for real leaving.” You whisper to him.

“I know. It’s going to be weird at Magdalene.”

“Elaine's leaving too. What am I going to do without her? Without you?”

“You have plenty here. You do not need us.” You felt tears form in your eyes.

“What if you go away, and forget us.”

star wars Thoughts at 4 am

ok so rise of skywalker happened,,, and i have mixed feelings. i didn’t hate it but i didn’t love it either (and i usually love star wars movies), so i am in desperate need of a little rant about both the good and the bad in the conclusion of the saga

DISLIKE

1. JJ ABRAMS DISREGARDING ALL OF THE DEVELOPMENT WE EXPERIENCED DURING LAST JEDI. this is what i am most upset about. you don’t have to like tlj, but you can’t pretend it never happened. it’s like he was trying to completely backtrack on everything that happened in tlj bc it was ~his~ vision for the franchise. i think that is disrespectful to not only rian, but to fans who grew attached to the development of the characters. we see finn revert back to first movie finn (lovesick puppy lowkey), rey become an invincible child of the sith, the end of the skywalker family line, complete abandonment of rose, and a total shift in the message of the trilogy. all jammed last second into the film. the next few points all have to do w this

2. the fact that in tlj it is revealed that rey is truly nobody- she’s not some all-powerful descendant or some with royal blood- and tros completely ignores this and makes her a palpatine. the whole point before was that she’s normal, but that doesn’t make her any less powerful, smart, or strong. the message from the first two movies was that you don’t have to be in these elite categories to be special and powerful, which is an important message to every single child and adult watching. it empowers us as viewers to believe that we have the capability to be great, no matter our status, birth name, ethnicity, class, or where we are from. you can find family when you have none. you have the power to change your life. when jj decide LAST SECOND to make her a palpatine, with no clues thrown into the first two movies to lead us to believe this, it feels like a joke. the rey we had come to sympathize with is suddenly an all-powerful sith, seeming stronger than even anakin and yoda, even though she had never even completed training. this reveal is not emotional and literally loses respect rather than gaining any from the audience. a cop out. i felt less emotionally attached to rey than in the previous two films bc of her sheer perfect power

3. rose being 100% sidelined even though her character was incredible in last jedi. her arc was one that i truly couldn’t wait to see finish and sadly we never got it because she was completely abandoned so it could just be a trio once more. i love her. the disrespect.

4. the sudden introduction of zorri just so that poe has someone to flirt with??? like if you wanted to prove he was heterosexual make him flirt w someone he has actual on screen history and chemistry with, like uhhhh idk? rey?????? dont get me wrong tho she is a badass and i love how she shuts poe down!! queen

5. how they throw it in there that finn is force sensitive but don’t fully explain it?? and he never even tells rey??? this is SUCH a cool concept yet it’s never even hinted at until the third movie and its not further developed as to why. likewise i wish we saw the stormtroopers before they left the first order. see what they dealt with and the abuse they endured bc it’s such an important facet of the trilogy and literally drives finns character

6. how we never touch on why poe felt it when rey was tortured?

7. i wish leia hadn’t died and she rallied support w lando

8. if they are a dyad why didn’t rey and ben fight palpatine together?? then no one would have died??

9. i’m just really sad that they chose to kill ben because even though rey takes their name, the skywalker bloodline is gone, while a palpatine lives on. the entire purpose of the first six movies is anakin bringing balance by defeating palpatine. somehow, palpatine survived this (never explained!!!!), which completely defeated the purpose of the first six films and strips anakins chosen one status and ultimate sacrifice of any true importance. in the end of tros, the palpatine bloodline lives on while the skywalker bloodline is gone, and i can’t help but to feel like that contradicts the theme of the original saga in which the skywalkers defeat palpatine and hope lives on.

10. lastly, i just don’t think george lucas would have wanted ben to die. when people kill off main characters to make the movie more emotional, he has literally said “i don’t like that and i don’t believe that” he goes on to say that he hates when main characters are killed, stating “the whole point of the film, the whole emotion that i am trying to get at the end of the film, is for you to be real uplifted, emotionally and spiritually, and feel absolutely good about life. that is the greatest thing we could ever possibly do.” so, i’m sure some of you could see why i have a little issue with killing someone who has finally recognized the error of their ways and wants to be better. yes, he has done awful things that cannot be separated from his new identity as ben, but i think that it would have been even more impactful to make him live with the crimes he has committed and still make him keep fighting his demons to join his legacy on the light side. overall, bens death left a sour taste in my mouth, and for that reason i don’t walk out feeling uplifted. i just wish i knew what george lucas is thinking right now.

LIKE

1. ben solo’s arc and han. now, before some of you pop off at me, i still think he was awful and horrible and didn’t deserve instant forgiveness, but i also think that someone who has grown up his entire life being treated like the spawn of satan by all adults who are supposed to love him would fuck him up majorly, like it would to anyone else in that situation. i think that he deserved another chance at experiencing love and happiness, and i absolutely adored the scene with him and han solo. it was honestly one of the best parts of the whole movie. thank you harrison ford. the whole “i don’t think i’m strong enough” and him tearing up to his dad CUT DEEP. AND THE “dad-“ “i know” LIKE LITERALLY MY HEART. bringing back the “i love you” “i know” so they are LITERALLY TELLING EACH OTHER THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!! i’m at peace. adam driver’s acting was absolutely phenomenal. so much respect for him. truly incredible.

2. i loved poe and rey’s bickering. lowkey thought it built some chemistry between them. and how poe seemed quite jealous that finn knew stuff about rey that he didn’t, literally asking him more than once (1nce) about it, like???? han leia vibes. tea. but also poe and finn

3. i really liked jannah SOOO much (and i usually am not one for introducing a character so late) but, like i explained in detail above, i wish they had built that backstory better and introduced her a little bit sooner with more screen time. but i loved her and finns connection and understanding of their trauma.

4. FINN AND POE BEING THE CUTEST HUMANS EVER. that’s all. i just love how they care so very much about each other like stop. cogenerals.

5. ALL THE JEDI VOICES WERE SO FREAKING COOL. CHILLS.

6. i honestly think that’s all. i don’t have anything more

7. OH WAIT HUX BEING THE SPY. i ate that shit up. yes. we stan. AND the hint that he was going along w poe’s phone call in tlj so that the resistance could escape (that’s how poe KNEW it) like YES

8. the animation of young luke and leia made my heart weep

9. that lil sketchy bitch babu and the new cone droid that talks,, mmm

10. OH THAT THE FORCE BOND LETS THEM TRANSMIT OBJECTS THRU IT LIKE THE VADER MASK SCENE WAS ICONIC

overall, if i don’t think too hard, i did like it and felt kind of at peace. BUT it could’ve been much better @ JJ :/ i feel like it didn’t do the saga justice as the “conclusion of the saga” bc there is still so much left unanswered. but, like i said, i did enjoy it a lot and have so much love for this world. rant over. i love u star wars. thank u for everything. <3

TLJ spoilers, obviously. also my issues are going to be numbered in no particular order bc my thoughts on this movie are so fucking scrambled but here we go

1. Kyle Ron. First of all fuck Ryeanne for making me see so many goddamn closeups of Adam Driver’s ugly ass face. I did not need to see all that he is so goddamn ugly especially that fucking shirtless scene where he looks like a block of pasty ass pale wood.

But for real, Kylo Ren. I don’t actually take issue with his existence, because Kyle really does excellently represent rich ass white boys who have everything handed to them but throw a hissy fit when they face the slightest adversity an throw tantrums all the time. It’s nice to see a villain that represents most people real-life nightmares instead of like, a Sexy Temptress or Old Evil Man or whatever. That being said, kyle is not given the villain’s treatment in this movie. if you cut out all the scenes where ryan is not actively sucking adam driver’s dick and jizzing all over himself over kyle’s angsty white boy angst, the movie has virtually no real plot (”oh no we are in space with no fuel, nobody is going to do anything except get mad at each other, miscommunicate, and deliberately make all the characters of color worthless while separating Finn and Poe bc fuck the gays”). So much of the movie is spent not just establishing how kyle became kyle (which is good! backstory for villains is good!), but trying to get us to like, sympathize with him? which is the shitty part. I dont care that Luke “”””tried to kill”’’’ (he didn’t) kyle. kyle had turned to the dark side before luke’s mistake. kyle had a million and one chances to change his mind from the start of TFA to the end of TLJ, and he never did. Kyle is an evil guy. We need one of those. He’s a great evil guy bc he’s got so many shitty qualities. But ryin doesnt want us to hate kyle, even tho hes the villain. why the fuck doesnt reean want us to hate kyle? bc rayan is also a shitty little man who thinks giving ur white boy a sob story makes him a sympathetic villain and sidelining ur characters of color will help.

also again the fucking shirtless scene what the shit man that was so gross

2. Will be broken down into A, B, C, etc. bc TLJ treats its characters of color like SHIT. 

2A. Finn. Finn gets put in a coma bc why would anyone want to write anything interesting for john boyega its not like hes the MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN and the MOST TALENTED ACTOR who is being sidelined bc ryun hates black people. Yeah Finn is totally into Rey and he wants to save her and is willing to desert the rebellion for her. that happened in the first movie but why give your characters real arcs when you can recycle old ones to jerk off to kyle ron. the rose thing happens, shes like “we can disable the tracking” and like TWO SECONDS after he was dead set on desertion he’s totally down to risk his life for the rebellion at rey’s expense? that sure is a quick 180 with no real reason why and no writing to explain it! then there was the whole “separate finn and poe” thing ryain pulled for the shits and giggles.

2B. Rose. I was pretty chill with Rose, she had a dope backstory, her sister was badass, and I liked that they made that connection off the bat. I’m not mad about anything rayn did with her character but i genuinely believe thats only because i havent thought about it enough yet. give me a week and i’ll figure out how rain fucked it up. open to suggestions.

2C. Poe. Full offense but was I supposed to be mad at Poe for coming up with a plan when that bitch Holdo was like “I’m not gonna tell you my plan sit tight and be convinced we are all going to die :)” i legitimately did not understand how I was supposed to be mad at poe for doing what he thought was best for the rebellion after he asked holdo what the plan was and she was deliberately obstinate and refused to even be like “dont worry i have a plan” she was just like. so dumb. Also poe got thrown around a lot and i am A Little Suspicious of how much physical violence he experienced compared to many other characters.

2D. You guessed what was next! The slaps! Super awesome how the two men of color were slapped by white people!!!! So deep!!!!!!! For real tho uh the second time i saw this movie someone in the audience laughed when poe got slapped by space hitler hux and uh??? not funny. not funny or cute or clever to use the guy you built your entire nazi imagery on to slap the one black man on your cast. i dont care if it was supposed to make us “hate hux” or whatever more. i already hated hux reyn. you could have used that screentime in your 3 fucking hour long movie for something valuable, like giving finn a character arc, or literally anything else besides that goddamn slap. i was livid watching that.

and then with leia and poe? i get that part of the conflict was internal in the resistance and one of the major themes was how failure is the best teacher and all that but like? maybe stop physically assaulting all your characters of color? maybe uhhhh at least think about that first??

2E. like i mentioned before one of the obvious themes was how failure is the best teacher so naturally all the major characters had to fail at something, and then learn from their mistake to be better next time. with luke it was fucking up with kyle, with rey it was being naive enough to think kyle could turn, with poe it was the dreadnaught thing, finn was left out of this because raan dooesn give a shit abt finn bc hes a racist bastard, etc. but it was incredibly transparent how all of the white characters’ mistakes meant either personal losses or something small scale with one person, while the mistakes of the characters of color (poe/finn/rose) were all ones that cost the rebellion the vast majority of their forces. rey got out of her fight with kyle and snoke unscathed. luke got a lot of guilt and character development. What did finn poe and rose get? the deaths of like 99% of the resistance on their shoulders. A little too coincidental that even though rey LITERALLY GAVE HERSELF OVER TO SNOKE she was totally fine a-ok no real scars, finn and poe and rose doing their best to save the rebellion while admiral holdo refuses to tell them anything costs the resistance so fucking much. rey does the DUMBEST FUCKING THING with no real consequences and finn and poe and rose try their best and are punished severely for it.

2F. Really convenient how everything finn, poe, and rose did ended up being useless and just cost the rebellion lives, whereas at least rey’s mishap got snoke killed and taught her a lesson. reeeeaaaalllllyyyyyy convenient how finn, poe, and rose’s plan was a huge waste of time. it would have been much better for us to see an actual plot line with them that contributed to the story and their characterizations instead of “send them on a goose chase, make it pointless in the end, physically brutalize them along the way.

3. R*yl* bullSHIT: ryyn had a really fun time with a lot of very rape-y scenes in this movie. the whole force-connection thing with kyle and rey was soooooo uncalled for, it reeked of non-con fantasies, catered to the r*yl*s like nothing ever before, and was so goddamn gross. the obvious invasion of privacy and lack of consent was nasty, using it as a shitty device to make rey “come around” on kyle was NASTY and that whole thing was nasty. i know im not articulating this well but there was so much about that whole thing that bothered me. i just know reyhan was so fucking into it, inserting kyle into rey’s life, forcing her to completely drop all of her characterization in the first movie to suddenly thing kyle can be good, acting as if rey hasnt seen all the shit and known what hes done. the whole thing was gross and a really obvious example of why men shouldn’t be allowed to direct movies.

4. killing snoke was a dumbass fucking mistake. kyle is a tantrum-throwing temper-losing toddler. snoke was evil and mysterious and shit idk. we knew he was powerful as fuck, he looked like a testicle which is a great villain imo, he was the darth sidious and they killed him off while kyle is still in like. ep2!Anakin levels of angst. i get that kyle is already powerful or whatever but like. hes not cold and calculated the way snoke was. kyle is a good villain, but a weak main baddie bc hes dumb as fuck. he let the rebellion get away bc he was pissed at luke. that was dumb as fuck. kyle is ruined by his emotions, and snoke was a scarier main baddie bc he wasnt so fucking dumb lol

5. it was so fucking long. there were so many scenes that could have been cut or shortened. why did we need to see luke milking the tiddy of that weird alien cow thing. why did we need to see kyle ron shirtless. why did we need so many goddamn shots of the fucking porgs.

6. ya the porgs are cute or whatever but like. that whole “look at how sad the cute big-eyes porg is when chewie is eating his friend” thing was so dumb. i dunno why but i hated that the most. that was the worst thing the porgs did. they were cute but like chill disney u know they like ran algorithm after algorithm to make that porg the cutest it could be with science or some bullshit and like? thats dumb.

7. i get that the humor in star wars movies is shifting but i felt like there was too much of it and it was dumb. a lot of the riffs werent funny and there were too many of them for a star wars film. star wars usually doesnt take itself too seriously, but this one was a little too much for me.

8. there were too many plot twists for shock value. the story went on too long. it should have ended earlier but it didnt. i dont know why ryenn decided to have like 6 different climaxes but it was too much. should have let there be one climax buddy. thats it.

9. holdo. besides holdo being the white feminist icon why didnt she just fucking tell poe the plan. why. why was so deliberately obstinate when it was doing no good. like yeah of course poe sent out a crew to try to save the rebellion all u told him to shut up and let you handle it! obvously what she did in the end was badass or whatever but like uh hun next time dont be a piece of shit and then get mad when people react to you being a piece of shit. i would have been okay with all that happening if holdo wasnt treated like some hero who never made any mistakes. she did make a mistake, and that was refusing to tell poe what her plan was when she knew he was absolutely the type to do whatever he could to save the rebellion whether he had her permission or not. also apparently holdo is a lesbian or bi or not straight or something in like the comics or whatever and like 1. classic bury ur gays but also 2. no more word of god gay characters if a character is not gay in the movies i will not give you the gay cred for it sorry homophobes

10. i didnt buy the story w luke and kyle at lukes jedi training facility or whatever. surprisingly, i was ok with lukes story line and character development, and actually agreed with it for the most part, but i just like. i dunno i didnt feel like that was something luke would do. not because luke is infallible (even tho he is my gay dad who has never done anything wrong ever) but because the entire original trilogy is luke believing darth vader could be saved. and while im not opposed to luke changing his mind about whether or not everyone could be turned away from the dark side (luke was young and optimistic in the original trilogy, and as he grew older he would learn more about the jedi and their history like the whole speech he gave rey about how the jedi have to end bc theyre lowkey shitty). i actually kind of liked luke’s hot take on the jedi, because it was lowkey my hot take on the jedi (esp the prequels jedi who were shitty as Fuuuuuck but we are ignoring the prequels for now lbr) but also because i could believe it was a view luke would come to as he aged. but impulsively drawing his lightsaber to kill kyle before he had actually done anything bad, after suspecting that kyle had darkness in him for a while, even though he felt like he had failed? it just didnt feel like luke to me. i felt more like raeyn had chosen that particular backstory to try to make kyle a more sympathetic villain rather than give a believable and in-character back story for the characters. i understand that luke’s failure ultimately has to lead to the creation of kyle ron in this story line, but that didnt feel like the right failure to me. maybe this is just me being nitpicky but that felt off to me too and i dont know if i can quite pinpoint why.

11. rey was a dumbass fucking bitch in this movie. rey could not be a dumbass fucking bitch to survive as a scavenger who was orphaned at birth on jakku. rey would have had to be smart and not as fucking DUMB as she was in this movie. now im getting heated so i cant articulate this well but she just did so many dumb things that anybody who had to raise themselves would have never done. she would never have delivered herself over to kyle ron like what a dumb fucking idea. who wrote this goddamn movie. fuck u ryeen.

12. why did yoda come back as a force ghost. where is anakins force ghost. he would be so fucking pissed at kyle right now. he would be mad as hell. he would have ended this thing. he would have called kyle out like the shitdickbitch he is and put him in his place. i get that yoda is more like ancient and orginal star wars jedi knowledge shit or whatever and like more of an authority on the jedi but like anakin is off in like force ghost hawaii drinking force ghost martinis while his shitty fucking grandson is being a piece of shit?? nah man anakin would have shut that shit down they better bring him back for ep IX and i expect hayden christensen himself to show up to bitch at kyle about what a fucking dumbass he is.

tbh theres probably more like i know there’s a ton of little things i hated but as scathing as this review is there were things i liked. visually speaking it was a very beautiful movie when we werent getting atrocious close ups of adam drivers ugly ass face. i originally hated but have come to appreciate the darker tone, since it mirrors the mood of TESB in that the rebellion seems dead but obviously isnt bc this is star wars. i liked luke. i dunno. i had a lot of issues with the movie obviously. to be quite honest i cant actually think of anything else i liked atm which is telling.

anyway if anybody actually reads this long ass fucking post feel free to respond with what you hated abt TLJ

ok but for real though here we go buckle down folks this is probably going to be long as hell

overall like many Star Wars fans I was unfortunately a bit disappointed with tlj and was shocked with the direction that rian johnson decided to go with both the characterizations of our faves and the plot (both of which I’ll get into in a sec). however this doesn’t mean that this was a BAD movie. I enjoyed the film. yes I said it. I have many major critiques but while I was sitting there watching it, there were moments that I felt deeply for the characters, moments that I wanted to jump out of my seat, and the ending built up to a promising looking sequel that I’m definitely going to watch and tbh thats all that really matters in a movie.

now on to all the parts I didnt like lmao

as for the characterization of most of the main characters, the ones that stuck out to me the most and the ones I’ll get into here are Luke, Poe, Hux, and I want to talk a little bit about Rose. Luke is the one that hit me the hardest because Luke is the OG. everyones number one. LUKE MOTHERFUCKING SKYWALKER. now, my main complaint is the same one that most other people have, he’s too pessimistic and his actions at his Jedi school just dont make sense in the context of his character. how could the person that couldn’t even kill Darth Vader raise a lightsaber to his own nephew? who hadn’t even really done anything yet? as what, a preventative measure? when kylo ren was the first to tell this story in the movie I was like theres no fucking way hes bullshitting but when it turned out to be true???? I was literally taken aback. Luke’s explanation for it as a split second thought was the only way to bring this to the very edge of my believability, but even then, it was very difficult for me to wrap my mind around the character whose whole being is based on forgiveness and finding a way when all hope is lost even thinking about doing something like that and then just giving up when all of it is over. I was actually talking about this moment with my brother (we had a two hour long conversation about Star Wars after he watched the movie that I will also reference when I start talking about Rose) and we both agreed that this moment was a bit forced. he put into words something that I was trying to say all along and it made so much sense, in the movies they were trying to show how kylo ren’s sense of distrust and his anger towards Luke and his family came to be and instead of doing it right by showing it happening in small, subtle actions they decided to just have one huge obvious physical manifestation of betrayal and tbh it was lazy and bad characterization and thats what all the fans saw when the saw the movie and what mark saw when he first read the script

I honestly feel like poe was demonized too much in this movie and made to look like some kind of lost kid playing soldier and it really annoyed me ??? like he was one of the top commanders of the resistance and to just have him completely thrown to the wayside like this in this movie just felt like …. why was he even in it? to get everyone killed? same with Finn and rose and honestly while I’m here let me talk about her too since I was going to bring her up later. I might get hate for this but rose honestly felt like a filler character to me. I just dont get any type of differentiation from her than from the rest of the resistance other than the fact that she now has a bit of a backstory. theres nothing particularly interesting about her character. shes just there. I feel like she had a lot of potential and it was just kind of wasted. I also thought the kiss at the end with Finn was ULTRA forced. like they were fine as friends but there was no romantic undertone until that moment like where did it come from and why? it was just there all of a sudden. now heres where my brothers commentary comes back into play because he really enjoyed tlj. he thought the romance was necessary and that it worked. keep in mind this is a straight, single, 25 year old man thats never been in a long term relationship. I think this has a lot to do with how people of different perspectives interpreted this movie. what does everyone else think because so far, on my dash everyone has been SILENT on that kiss. keep in mind im a kylux blog so I follow a lot of that side of the fandom but I do follow a few light side blogs too although many are caught up in the reylo stuff. I really dont think a romance arc is necessary at all but if its put in I want it between characters that actually have good romantic chemistry like Finn and poe or maybe Finn and Rey im holding out for kylux but I know its not happening lmfaooo

anyway onto the last person I want to talk about my cupcake domhnall

now hux hasn’t played a very big roll (seemingly) in the series so far and it was great to see him on screen more in tlj but good god at what cost. in the first movie he was calm cool and collected, a respected general that took shit from no one, and in this he was the joke of the movie taking hits from cringe-worthy jokes and just generally looking the opposite of what he did in tfa. it was honestly kind of hard to see because hux was one of my favorite characters in tfa and domhnall is one of my favorite actors (if you cant tell by my blog) and its just going to be weird to see where they pick him back up again in episode 9

oh my god I just realized I only talked about the characters and haven’t even gotten to the plot yet go grab some popcorn or something I have a lot more to say

first I want to talk about how this movie was set up as a whole. it was separated into three different storylines from the very beginning, Rey and Luke on the island, the resistance’s fight with the first order, and Finn and rose’s plan to invade the first order by themselves. I didn’t like this because it just made it feel too messy and very long. this whole movie was supposed to take place over a matter of a few days, but as it was jumping back and forth, it would be on a scene with Rey and then it would jump back to the resistance and I would be like damn theyre STILL doing this. tlj was a decently long movie but sitting there it felt like it was three hours+

In addition to that, I feel like a way they could have avoided this would be to cut out Finn and rose’s part, include them with the rest of the resistance instead of giving them a side plot that was doomed to fail from the start, and work with that. I really dont understand why it was necessary to separate them at all. their plan didnt work, they got most of the resistance killed in the process, there was no solid reason for them to go on this little adventure other than what? character development? if thats your excuse there are better ways to do it

ok this is the part that I was 1000000000% confused about. Carrie’s death. they had it. they literally had a scene with her dying. they had it ???? and then they Jesus’d her back to life ??????????? I was sitting in that theater WASTING MY TEARS because KYLO FUCKING REN COULDNT PULL THE TRIGGER AND THEN MY MOM DIED and then she lived ?????????? I have honestly never been so confused in my life. if I could have a time machine I would go back to that moment just so I could see the look on my own face because I know that shit was ridiculous. how the fuck is jj going to deal with this in the next movie though? rian LITERALLY had a scene with carrie dying in it. USED IT IN THE MOVIE. said nah fuck jj abrams he can figure this shit out on his own. and brought that bitch back to life. like honestly how much do they hate each other because I really didnt understand the magnitude until I watched that scene.
