Years of being the one to chase his friends down with a cup of water in clubs, Yuchan’s used to the weight that the guy’s voice holds. The words are drawn out, and Jaeyoon seems to be in a daze. He notices the way he shifts around, as if he’s not sure whether to stand, sit, or just walk away with an apology. Then, Jaeyoon bows, which Yuchan returns before putting his hands back in his pockets. It’s a simple exchange of formalities– but he can’t help but feel a lightness in his chest because of it.

“No worries. No need to apologize,” He replies, his tone easy. The words flow out of him easier than he expected, and it’s weird. There’s a sense of familiarity in this, but Yuchan guesses that it’s because he knows the two of them share a lot of similarities based on a Naver search he made months ago. Then, Yuchan moves closer, gesturing to the chair opposite of the one he was sitting on, the movement casual and deliberate. “You can… sit with me if you want. I’d show you my beats instead of the friend?” He repeats what Jaeyoon said earlier, a smile on his face. It’s borderline teasing, meant as a quiet invitation to ease the two of them into something a little less awkward.

Almost like he’s leading the way despite the studio being smaller (though, a notable upgrade from the tiny one he used to spend hours in at the old Ninety9 building), Yuchan takes a few steps to sit back in his chair before pushing it back slightly. “I’m Kim Yuchan,” He says when he sits down. “We can just talk, too, if you want.” The words hang in the air, fitting right in with the hazy, scattered energy of the night. He waits for Jaeyoon to fill in the empty spaces, but Yuchan’s eyes flicker to his notebook, pages cracked open to a section that he doesn’t even have to look at to know exactly what’s written there. “You write too, right? Wanna look at my notebook?” He nudges the notebook closer, almost like he’s testing Jaeyoon’s reaction before he says anything.

there's the deafening sounds of some small club he's at contrasted with the ping on his phone. the phone screen lights up, enveloping his face in some faux halo against the dark scene of the crowd — an old friend, a shared studio space: i have some beats down, maybe you could come look at it? in another world, he'd consider himself a saint — one that shrouds himself in selflessness as the soles of his feet pivot and slip past some off-tune sing-along shout to the beat of the crowd.

but one look in the viscinity of the environment and reality hits: he's far from sainthood.

there's a writer's block that can't be shaken off despite how many times he's feigned the prisoner in distress, confining himself to the walls of the studio. and there's a greater chance that 99% of the time, he'll fall into the end-of-night mere ritual of kicking his blankets, thinking of the mistakes of yesterday's goodbyes — tonight, he vows something different.

the alcohol thrums far from the beat, and he feels the heat raising from the pit of his chest all the way to curtain the surface of his skin. his wayward steps do him no good either, stumbling past each door till he finds one he deems familiar enough to open. "hey. those beats you were talking about?" and long drawl of his voice cuts quicker than when his eyes catch glimpse of someone far different than who he expects.

formalities, of course. and like clockwork his chin dips in lieu of a fourty-five degree bow. "jaeyoon. yes." his head nods in tandem, palms pressing against the open door. "don't think we've met. but i'm jaeyoon." his voice falters when his mind catches the double-dip into introductions — he'll blame that on the alcohol. "sorry. i thought this was my friend's studio. thought it could help with some writer's block." words ramble, and his eyes squeeze shut before the gentle open back into reality. a pause. "sorry — i'm rambling."

the release of 130 mood: trbl came about after ash was pretty much passed off to the korean wing of his label for a debut in hopes he'd find greater appeal there. ash was less than thrilled about it, as it felt a lot like abandonment before he'd even really been given a chance. the label's korean arm seemed to see much greater potential in the niche he could fill than the american arm, and this became apparent through the resources dedicated to the production of his first ep. famous fan lore states that 130 mood: trbl was written in under a month. this is partially true, but mostly not. he'd started writing the ep in english before he was unceremoniously relocated in only the short time it took a multi-billion dollar label to get him a visa to get to work in south korea. several originally english demos may have been remodeled into korean language tracks in under a month, but the whole ep was certainly not written in that time. the rumor persisted because it was good for the image-making of a prodigal crossover singer-songwriter. "21" was one of the first demos that was converted into korean and became his soft debut in korea. many consider it his debut full-stop. though it wasn't a chart hit, it gained popularity and critical praise at a much higher rate than his previous, american double single and even won best r&b song at the korean music awards. "d (half moon)" and "bonnie & clyde" were dual-released with 130 mood: trbl as album singles. "d (half moon)" became a staple and the most successful song from the ep on the charts, but ash stands by "bonnie & clyde" being his preferred representative. greymatter visuals made its first appearance with a label budget, as he participated in the direction of the "bonnie & clyde" music video. the trio of singles and the ep as a whole served to establish the image of a ~romantic but tortured, slightly edgy pretty boy singer-songwriter~ that earned enough interest to get him branded a rising star and "discovery of the year". this was largely the point in his career he was the most widely-liked and the least controversial. while he made several television and radio appearances to promote this release, he never shared much about the inspiration behind the album. when he did go more in-depth, it was sparked by discussion of his role in visual and creative directing the album.

Mingi smiles in satisfaction as he just finished to cook galbijjim for the dinner. His heart is beating fast due to nerves while waiting for you to come home from work. Please, I hope you like my cooking, he whispers to himself. Lately Mingi has noticed that you have no appetite, so he's just trying his best to get you back to eating three meals a day and staying hydrated! Your busy work, lack of exercise, and your behavior that keeps skipping your meals made Mingi worried until he decided to cook dinner for you.

Mingi's eyes blink a few times as he heard the passcode being entered into the smartlock of your apartment door. His body stands rigid, but his lips curve a smile. He's hoping that you would praise him by making you dinner. Well, this big baby of yours always wants to be praised by you, he feels so loved when you say words of encouragement to him, as if to show how much you love him.

"Baby!" Mingi runs into your hug as the door opened, smelling the scent of your perfume from the blouse you're wearing. His hands linger around your waist, and his actions make you smile in an instant. Your boyfriend is so lovely for being clingy like this.

"I'm home, baby. How was your day?" You ask softly and then give him a peck on the cheek. Mingi buries his face in the crook of your neck, giving a small bite out of his excitement for you.

"No, I should be the one asking that. How was your day, baby? And did you have dinner?"

Oh, please. Mingi hopes you haven't eaten yet. Please tell me you haven't eaten with your co-workers-

"Ah, I haven't eaten yet. My assignment got me nervous like I'm on a payment due."

Ah, thank goodness. Mingi smiles at your reply which always has a touch of humor in it. The you Mingi knows is used to being easy going, you don't take your work so seriously that it makes you stressed and sick. You're indeed busy and force yourself to do all the assignments, but you also limited your brain from thinking too much, you don't want to get sick. You don't want to give a hard time to Mingi, you understand your boyfriend is also busy and has a job besides devoting his attention to you.

"I made you dinner, baby. Welcome to Mingi's kitchen!" Mingi smiles cheerfully, his face beaming. Oh, look how beautiful that smile is! You bet even a bouquet of flowers can't beat its beauty.

"Let's go, have a dinner with me," Mingi's tone of voice is filled with excitement as he leads you to the dining table.

"Woah! ! You made this for me?" You stare at the dining table with two plates of galbijjim that are still warm from having just been made. You are once again amazed by Mingi's ability.

"Seriously Mingi, what can't you do?"

Mingi laughs amusedly, he rubs your back gently. "Thank you for saying that, baby. You just made my heart flutter, for real."

"Oh, Mingi." you chuckle along with him. Then you turn to face him with that sweet smile of yours, "Thank you for always taking care of me, Mingi. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Baby..." Mingi's eyes turned teary, both moved and saddened. "I don't know what I'd do without you by my side either. We support each other, okay? I'll always be by your side if you need me."

The atmosphere suddenly becomes emotional, and you move closer to embrace Mingi's body. Finally. You feel at home every time you're in his arms. Truly, Mingi's embrace feels very safe and comfortable as if you can be protected from all kinds of dangers in this world.

Mingi rests his chin on top of your head, lulling you softly to soothe you while whispering his feelings toward you, such as "I do really love you, tiny." he says. "So come on, eat with me. You're already smaller than me, so you should eat more."

"Excuse me?!" you chortle, punching his chest playfully. "Stop saying that, don't babying me. You're the baby here."

"I'm not a baby when I can make one," Mingi replies vulgarly, but his face looks overly relaxed. He just released that innocent laugh of him when you glare at him.

"That mouth of yours is filthy, Song."

Mingi doesn't reply again, but you can see his lips form a smile as he pulls out a chair for you to sit on. "Please take a seat, my dear."

But you shake your head. Mingi's expression changes, he's confused. "You don't want to eat my cooking?" oh really, his tone sounds so sad and hurting, you feel guilty. But you have something else in your mind, though.

"Mingi, you're the one I want right now."

He tilts his head to the side, unsure of what you've said to him. "Huh? What was that supposed to mean?"

"It means i want to eat you, baby."

Mingi instantly swallows hard his saliva down his throat. His ears turned red, but his expression changes again quickly, looking annoyed this time. "I made you dinner with a lot of effort but you're saying you wanna eat me?!" he sighs, "You should've said it."

He smiles, ruffling your hair. "Ah, you're really something else, my baby." he says before landing a soft kiss on your lips. "Of course you can eat the chef too, but you have to eat his cooking first because he has been worried about your health all day."
