Nintendo Switch: Animal Crossing + DLC

I am not even sure how to describe Animal Crossing to someone, but it is even crazier to assume that most people haven’t heard about it in some form or fashion. Do you know the amount of collabs the franchise has had by now? But, I would like to make a post about it anyways, since the new DLC came out. 

You start with the basic game: Animal Crossing

What is the game? You have taken to Island living with a bunch of other like minded animals, and as time goes on you learn more things and make it your version of Paradise. There is something addicting about how whenever I want to, I can go to my own paradise and see (within logical restraints) my idea of perfection. I also am in total control, who is there and when they are active. But then its also its own thriving community, when I am away for a couple of days the villagers talk amongst themselves about me. Something else that totally surprised me about this game was the sense of community among players in and out of game. Like, if people treated each other this nicely in the real world-World peace might actually be a thing. But there have been free updates for about 2 years. Most of the updates were minimal, the holidays were a big deal, but the most recent update is the last free one and they went out with a bang. SO MUCH CONTENT. I actually really like all they have done, and someone just starting from the beginning has a lot to look forward to. 

End of the free means...pay to play. The first, and I am not sure if it is going to be the last, paid DLC is Happy Home Paradise. Which if you look bears a similar feel to what used to be a separate game for Nintendo 3DS

This DLC is $25 plus the $59.99 game. For the price, it is a very good value. You have more to do in your island life, but then a lot of aspects from the vacation island bleed over to your home island in time. It is not the price of a full price game, but it is beautifully incorporating what was a separate game into an already existing game. Where else does $25 dollars get you hours of gameplay? 

By the time you get to where I am at, I have had the game since COVID started since it was the game that was easiest to do during COVID. (A sad goodbye to the days of couch co op). I have played the game, bought some merchandise, bought amiibo cards to use in game, and now the question is...to DLC or not DLC? If you ask me, I say go for it. By the time you invest a couple of hundred hours into the game...what’s a couple of hundred more?

Whatcha been playing?

I’ve taken a surprisingly long break from Destiny 2, only just now hopping back on to check out the latest season. Played two missions then was done for that night, but I’m considering coming back. The story seems very cool. In the meantime I got a few new Switch games and I’m excited to play those too. Been wrapping up my pokedexes in Pokemon Sword. I’m very close to having the DLC dex’s done. The other game that is on my mind is FFXIV. I really want to play it and get my character to max level one day, but for some reason lately I haven’t been compelled. I’m only level 17 at the moment, trying to make a paladin. 

In other news there have been some good moves made at Activision Blizzard. I hope they shake up management even further, maybe replace Kotick with a woman. After all this press I’m sure there are lots of eyes looking in Activision Blizzard’s direction now, so I hope that alone helps minimize the terrible behavior that brought this about in the first place. Beyond that I don’t have a lot more to say, you’ll find all the news you need on this story out there on ign.com and polygon.com. =)

WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN PLAYING ALL WEEKEND? I hope everyone's enjoying their weekend. I had a great Thanksgiving break with my family and friends and I even got a day or two to relax with hours of gaming. I played lots of Dark Souls 3, some Call of Duty WWII and spend half a day with Persona 5. Almost 55 hours into the game and still barely scratched the surface. I have a love/hate relationship for the game. I love playing every moment but due to its story driven nature the game often places the player in the passenger seat on a linear path of story telling that can last for hours. Nintendo Switch: Stardew Valley

This is not a new game, its an old game on a new system. When I first got my switch, it was...kind of an expensive investment. So when me and my best friend wanted to get a couple of not $60 games, we both got Stardew. Let’s jump to the game itself: 

You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won’t be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town’s most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles. But the valley seems full of opportunity. With a little dedication, you might just be the one to restore Stardew Valley to greatness!

This is the first time I have ever played it, my friend has played it before, and my sister played it on PC. Man, this game has the biggest learning curve of any game I have played in a long while. The pixilated throwback style is part of the charm. The stardew universe itself is massive. So much to do from farming to fishing to barn yard animals to mining to romance to cooking to building. Weather changes with the season, and if you get enough people crazy enough to do this with you, you can have up to four people on one farm. 

My first farm is a group farm, so without at least one person in my Stardew team with me, its hard to play. I could start my own farm just me, but there are so many things I have on my group farm that makes life so nice that I can’t imagine doing my own with less energy than my current character has. Energy levels grow over time with special fruits but it’s hard to get a lot done on low energy phase. 

This is a great game to get into, but if you possibly can, get into it with someone that knows what they are doing. I am sure watching Youtube videos would help too. If you like Animal Crossing, but want a more complicated larger world with more life choices, this is your game. Good price point at $15 dollars. If you play and like this game, look out for Haunted Chocolatier. From what I have seen, its this same sytle and thought but solo player. (https://www.hauntedchocolatier.net/)

I have never liked You Dont Know Jack much, but its worthy of a readd. Split the room is my favorite from this pack, its got a twilight zone like feel. The rest are pretty good, even if not my personal favorite. On to the next.

Nintendo Switch: Dead by Daylight

I am sure someone you know plays Dead by Daylight. The first time I think I heard about it? I think my ex, like a couple of exes back, was playing it and I think I gave him crap for doing so? Like it was too scary? (This is the part where I should apologize and I am not going to LOL). My BFF plays it, and recently I have gotten into true horror and really, after some brief research into the game...its pays homage to the classics. Its scary but not jump scare scary? Let’s delve in. 

Ever wished to play as one of the characters from your favourite horror movies? Dead by Daylight is a 1v4 multiplayer game that allows you to choose between playing an unstoppable Killer and one of four Survivors trying to evade a gruesome death. This edition includes 9 killers and 10 survivors to choose from and 3 cosmetic packs. (https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/dead-by-daylight-switch/)

This combines a couple of great things: multiple game modes (survivor and killer), customization with outfits, group game play (nothing beats couch co op and having to actually work together), and homage to classic cult horror classics.  Every game has a learning curve, the tutorials help greatly with that. If you have friends that play, I would suggest going from tutorials to a hand picked group to learn the rest of the ropes with. I have actually heard this game is better with a hand picked team when you are playing otherwise. Makes sense if you have a hard time working well with strangers. 

My cons so far? Well, as a gamer I tend to prefer button play that uses less of the L/R’s but I think in time I will get used to it. My favorite things so far is to play as the Killer, that was just such a cool experience when the victims get sacrificed. As much as I am growing to love the shadows (and all they contain), I love playing this in the afternoon. I am the kind of person what I watch or do in a day can easily translate into my dreams and my nightmares are up there so I will not play this so much at night.

Nintendo Switch: Sega Genesis

Sega, one of the players in the race but not one that most people visit the tombstone of. Nintendo was huge but someone had to try and takedown the big guy before Playstation and Microsoft were old enough to play. Just look at the system itself, its trying to be so much more and cooler. What is on this menu?

This universe was always so different from the Nintendo Universe. Sonic is still a very popular character and game, I think he even has a movie made about him? What here looks good to me? I have heard great things about Castlevania and that would be a fun game to play. Did you play this system back in the day? What did you play on it?
