Day 6 > A Celebration of our new building, with BBQ and Pigeons. Although there was still quite a bit to get done, not least getting some doors on our building, we were able to stick to our plan of hosting our first community BBQ and Pigeon making session. It was so great to see the community trying out the makingof our Portland Pigeons. We were amazed at the variations acheived, textures and feathers, and charcterful features. The BBQ went down well, everything was eaten, and the children, by the end of the day, were allowed to explore the new building, and give thoughtd about activity for the next 3 weeks of our programme. It was great to have debrief with Baxendale at the end of the day, to talk about what worked, and what we might want to look at, and what there is still to get done.

What is absolutely clear, from even this first week, that the presence of the building, and the activity on the green has really changed the way people are feeling about and using the Green Space. One week ago, we spent a day handing out our leaflets to tell people about the project. This was also a chance to gauge the way the space was being used. It was clear that the space was not being used by families, and children in the area, perhaps because of the levels of anti-social activity which has been happening on the space. More than once, it was voiced by visitors, that having the activity happening on the green is already making a difference. To see the space being reclaimed by the community was so good to see today. 

An enormous thank you to the community of Portland Street, for making week one such a success. Plus thanks to our brilliant team Baxendale, Glen Stoker from AirSpace Gallery, My Community Matters, Hunt and Darton and Appetite Stoke, our local policing team, Stoke City Council and lots of other individuals and organisations championing The Portland inn Project. Forward Together!
