Limiting access to that in this day and age would be massively limiting one’s knowledge, safety and basic life skills, especially if their family is neglectful or abusive.

— What constitutes as social media cannot necessarily strictly be defined. Some people consider WhatsApp to be social media despite the fact it’s a texting app, and the people you communicate with there are presumably people you’ve spoken to before if you know their numbers. Hello guys I'm back again after few months or so- I don't think I remember but, I have decided that I'm gonna start making youtube videos instead of tiktok videos. Well, let me explain.. And then I reject his offer for me to be his online little sister, he said that he understood that and we continued talking. Afterwards I made a. " All fandom gc" in whatsapp and invited him over as well as Invited my friends and one of my cousin, I won't tell her realname but for now let's call her "Anne" . So Anne and I are cousins.. And also bffs, we are very close to eachother. She lived not that far from mine. As well as I am. Alright, so at the gc. The guy from Tiktok chatted in the gc quite normal. But then started flirting with our gc members. Including the minor ones. That made me and friends also cousin uncomfortable , so me as an admin gave him a warning and told him that this gc is full of kids from 11-15.i never asked about his age but I think he's around in his 30s. Back to the problem, he then started chatting my cousin, Anne. He always terror minors and kids through social media's and always asked them to give him their number. I blocked him on every social media that I have and reported his tiktok acc. And after all of this happened and finished, I tried to fresh out my mind and forget everything by opening up tiktok to watch some random vids and edits. But I was a bit shocked when I opened tiktok again because my acc got banned permanently. While instead I have never and never been post or done something that is against the rules.. So yeah, my tiktok acc got banned and that is the reason why im planning and deciding to move on to youtube.

I'm so sorry if you don't understand the story and stuff, im actually having a hard time telling this type of things to my parents or people because all they do is just complained about that and compare their stories than mine that they are the only one who had the worst thing that happened to their lives. Can you imagine if we are not able to access our global social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter?

These social media platforms have allowed us to express our thoughts and views and spread information, whether right or wrong, without the need for approval from authorities and being controlled by the government.

However, in China, it is the norm.

According to statistics, China has the highest number of internet users in the world compared to other countries, with a total of 1.5 billion users, thrice the number of users in the United States, which are only around 100 million users (Thomala, 2022).

Even though they have access to the internet, their government has restricted (blocked) them from accessing Instagram, Google, YouTube, or even WhatsApp due to Internet censorship.

The censorship is to combat potentially disruptive consequences of Western cultural globalization (Miller, 2020). In the case of VPNs, only the ones approved by the government can be used, and the ones that are not approved are banned. The Great Firewall of China, also known as "China's Golden Shield," is a system of internet censorship. It was first initiated in 1998 and began to operate in 2008 (Chandel et al., 2019).

This censorship started to get stricter when hundreds of people were killed in the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, when students fought for free speech and a free press in China. According to Liang (2018), China's intention of implementing the social credit system is to "compute a credit score for every individual and organizational actor based on previous and continuing social and economic activity, and these credit ratings will govern whether an actor can get advantages of sanctions." Big Data and Artificial Intelligence is used widely in the process.

The credit scores are divided into two, good and bad. The examples of good actions are donating blood and involving in charities, while bad actions are stealing and cheating. Obtaining good social credit points will be given tax breaks or even cheaper public transportation fares, while the bad social credit points will be penalized and restricted from traveling (Velocityglobal, 2022).

According to Liang (2018), "the data collected are used and organized by the government to monitor and administer China's political, social, and commercial dominions." Behaviors are monitored to remain "trustworthy" through positive actions with this implementation of social credit.

What about privacy?

It is something that invades someone's privacy. The Government has every data of ours organized. Alongside, we are under surveillance for EACH and every hour of the day. With one wrongdoing from an individual in the society, the person will probably go through some hardship to clear out that bad social credit(s).

The question is, will we survive such a controlled movement being implemented on us in Malaysia?

Data confrontation gains momentum as Meta blocks Russian state media

US technology giant Meta said it would ban Russian state media from using its apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.

The measure came after US prosecutors claimed that RT allegedly secretly funded influence campaigns through social media. Meta stated on Monday that it was banning Russian state media from using its apps worldwide due to “foreign interference activity.”

After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets. Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity.

RT was forced to cease official operations in the UK, Canada, the European Union, and the US due to sanctions over the war in Ukraine. US prosecutors said RT was working to create “an entire empire of covert projects” allegedly designed to shape the public opinion of “Western audiences.”

Meta had earlier banned the Federal News Agency in Russia to prevent the alternative news source from covering relevant events. The US State Department also said it was making diplomatic efforts to inform governments around the world about Russia’s use of RT to conduct covert activities.

US senators and other officials warn that Russia’s growing influence, including in Africa and the Global South, is hindering support for Ukraine and other popular agendas.
