"we believe journalists are active participants in forming history so we're not going to pander to anyone - we aren't preaching to the choir here"
*publishes an article by a journalist who belittles their readers*
I mean. I guess that's one way to avoid preaching to the choir.

we do not need to engage with all posts. sometimes people can be stupid on the internet and it's fine, actually. we do not need to correct people for making grandiose statements based on knowledge they acquired at age 11 and haven't updated since <- said through gritted teeth

Quil's muse has dug a hole and shoved everyone else into it while she stands there, innocently. Every now and then another will climb out for a brief moment but they never stay there long.

Y'all will not believe my luck. School started today and I just got out of my Research and Argumentative Writing class, and our topic this semester is pop culture. POP CULTURE YES.
Our teacher asked us what all our favorite media was and of course I said NBC Hannibal and her response was "ooh that's a good one I've had a few students write about that" YAAAAAAAAS
The only unfortunate thing (which was my own doing) was she asked us why we like our piece of media and I said "because I relate to Will Graham's mental illness and empathy and also I, as a queer person, enjoy the queer storylines" which is all well and good except then she asked what Hannibal being my favorite piece of media says about me and I said without thinking, in front of my entire class "I like unhinged men" and my teacher went "OOOOOOH YES" and wrote "[name] likes unhinged men" on the whiteboard in the front of the classroom.

making gifs of wh13 is such a pain in my ass bc it's like, such a not well put together show and i am trying so hard to say that nicely. it has many charms, etc., and you can't really hold it to a standard of Convenient For Mediocre Gifmakers. but still! minor issues with continuity editing are very easy to not pay attention to while watching but then you've got, like, shot-countershot and they're each about 30 frames so you SHOULD be able to put them together in a single gif except when you do they look bonkers, and don't get me started on the lighting and color grading.
i have been trying to make gifs of this particular sequence for ages and every time i try it i've got more adjustment layers than frames and i'm almost 100% sure i've made it worse than the show looked. to be sure it's a close race. grumble!

okay after DNFing Winter's Orbit and going through like a daylong "I just don't want to read anything" crisis, I'm going to start The Copper Crown tonight. I've seen it described as "the fae in space" and that sounds like the kind of weirdness that might make my brain happy right now.

the desire for people to stop diagnosing their abusers with stigmatized disorders when they are literally not a psychologist and most abusers literally do not care about psychology or therapy at all 😩 they don’t care about getting help, so how do YOU know they have this disorder without using stigma as a basis?

I'm really just thinking about the "which is better: loving a popular character with bad fan opinions or loving a less popular character with good fan opinions" poll because I don't think the experiences are that different. Like, if you go hard for a less popular character, you have the benefits of talking to a small group of like-minded folk who do share good opinions, that's true. But any time wider fandom tries to interpret said less popular character, it's sure to be a take just as vacuous and wrong as popular character meta can be (because they genuinely haven't put in the effort to understand the character) and usually whatever that take is is what's going to be popularized (so people can continue not putting in the effort to understand the character). So then you still have to deal with misinterpretation and bad opinions of the character, but without the added bonus of lots of cool art and literal pages upon pages of fic to choose from. From personal experience, I don't really think this is better. I'm not sure it's worse, either, but I wouldn't call it better

okay, one last thing and then i promise i'll stop complaining, but the drafts and queue tab are also very inconvenient to get to now. instead of having it all on the same menu, you now have to click "activity", click the graph symbol at the top so that it will take you to your actual activity page instead of giving you a dropdown menu, and then you can click "drafts" or "queue".

tumblr, immediately: *makes it much less easy and even less intuitive than before*
c'mon, guys.

unless you have the logistics to set up a chain of horses, in a "medieval" setting travelling long distance by horse is no faster than walking on your own feet, having horses and maybe a cart allows you to take more stuff with you
if you want actual speed you use a boat, but the rivers and seas don't go everywhere

Kinda hate my neighbors -_-
So I live in an apartment and we have a shared laundry facility. I had to buy a little trashcan because people kept dropping their lint and dryer sheets all over the floor.
But people can't be bothered to empty out the trash can either. Once it's full they just keep dropping the dryer sheets and the lint all over the floor still!!!! And the worst thing is, there is a dumpster RIGHT OUTSIDE the laundry room. It's not that hard TT-TT
I don't do my laundry down there every week because it's downstairs and I'm too disabled to walk down and up and down and up every week when I already do that to walk my dog and go to work. We bought a mini washer so we can do small load up here so thank goodness I don't have to deal with it often. But I'm literally the only one who cleans up down there and it's infuriating.
This isn't even that bad because I cleaned up down here like, what 2 weeks ago? A month ago? I'm not good with time but it was so much worse than this. At least one person tried to help by buying another trash can but they bought the one with the lid and the lever or whatever that you step on to lift the lid and that's broken so no one is using it even though it's pretty easy for me to lift the lid with my foot and toss the lint in.
And when I cleaned it last time I also cleaned out a lot of dirt that comes in through the metal screen door of the laundry room that the landscapers blow in with the leaf blowers and clothes that had been left behind. I really wish the landscapers would stick to the front. The back is just parking, there is no greenery at all. All the green is in the front. And why are people leaving clothes??? Why don't you pick up after yourself the next time you go in and see your missing sock or scarf or whatever??? And I'm definitely the only person who cleans down there.
