Prompt #12 Dowdy
Akane Urabe rarely got credit where it was due for her sheer, momentous amount of patience she had where raising her children were concerned. Dressed in a light soft brown komon with white pattern diamonds, toes tucked into a pair of old geta, her strawberry ginger hair tucked into a low bun. Deep brown eyes searching.
She had been busy filling her days with helping watch her grandchildren since her husband's passing and they were enough to run her off her feet. The children in varying degrees inherited a strong affinity for feral behaviour, running like the kami possessed their feet. Not unlike that of one of their Aunt's.
Today she had invited everyone over for a lovely birthday brunch for her eldest daughter, Iso accompanied by her husband. The youngest, Cho and her husband had charitably arrived early to help prepare food and decorations. The only one missing was her middle child, Sen.
The grandchildren were happily occupied with each other, their laughter spilling out from the garden.
The eleventh bell was nearing, Akane stood by the front porch watching the road expectantly. A moment passed eleven and she sighed.
"I'm heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere!"
Akane looked down the road again mistakenly for the late arrival of Sen came from above. Akane gasped, shielding her face with her sleeve as the heavy thump of Moonshine's landing greeted her.
"Kweh!" Moonshine was in her adorable yellow raincoat, her flying goggles down, a pack filled to the brim with various herbs, flowers, and other greenery sticking out. A fox head popped out of a sidesaddle bag.
Sen swung a leg over the saddle, dismounting easily. Akane ran a scrutinizing eye over Sen. She was dressed in overalls, sweaty, covered in a fine layer of dust, and a straw hat.
"Mama!" Sen greeted brightly, carrying on in Doman, "Apologies for being tardy, I lost track of time. I went out to get Iso some fresh lavender as a gift and got carried away collecting something for everybody. The kids would feel left out. I found some great intact bird bones that I know that little Sakura will love-"
Moonshine bowed her head for Sen to adjust the goggles off her eyes, getting a few grysahl green leaves as a snack.
Akane waited to get a word in, "You are here and that is all that matters..." She waited a beat for Sen's full attention, "But dressed as you are will not do."
Sen sheepishly laughed, "Didn't want to be late taking the time to clean myself up. Is there... anything clean I can borrow?"
"Clean, yes. I sorted through your old closet and donated all your dowdy westerner clothing."
Sen's expression fell, "Mama-"
Pinching Sen's sleeve to tug her inside, "There is a wash basin ready as well, and stand up straight and don't pout."
Once Sen was inside, Akane shooed Moonshine around the house to the back gardens where the children were playing. There was a resounding cheer of the chocobo's arrival.
Sen stepped out of her boots, padding barefoot across her family home. Akane was right behind her, trying to herd her to her room as quickly as possible but stopped short by popping her head in to say hello to her sisters and squinting at the sight of their husbands as well, relaxing outdoors.
"I thought it was going to be us and the kids - family only."
"It is, what are you talking about?" Akane poked once, poked twice Sen's back to keep walking, but was served a disappointed look from her second eldest.
"What's the matter? Go on, get to it."
"Mama, had I known partners were allowed I'd have brought Jesser."
Akane brushed her off, "He does not count, you're not even married. Come now."
Iso popped her deep auburn head out from the sidedoor leading into the living room, "Did I hear Jesser'to would be joining us? The Dahkra's are such a good family-"
Akane answered in a sharp bite, "No he will not be."
Iso shrank a little, but spoke up, "Mama, that is not fair." The sisters shared a look, Akane saw the apparent gratitude in Sen's face.
Silence stretched between the three of them. Cho calling from the kitchen for some help. Akane looked back to Sen, her daughter no longer faced her mother.
"Enough." Akane decided, a harder push at Sen's back to get her on the move again but it was like trying to shove a stonewall. She held her breath.
Sen was still, breathing evenly after a beat she moved Akane tried to follow behind her to show her the yakuta she picked out for her but the door was slammed in her face. About to rapt on the door, Iso was at Akane's side holding her mother's wrist.
Iso whispered, pleadingly, "Mama, don't."
Showing a similar form of restraint Akane backed away from the door. Calling back to Cho that she was coming to help.

In a home where she wanted for nothing, she somehow wanted for everything she did not have. From a young age, Eloise craved the great wide somewhere that only existed in the depths of her imagination. Eloise was born and raised into the warm embrace of what was the picturesque family: a dutiful father who worked hard to support their family, a doting mother who was there for every moment of every day of Eloise’s childhood, and Eloise was the final piece to the puzzle that was their white picket fence life. Her childhood was marked by dusty wooden pews on Sundays with lace gloves and stiff-skirts, hot humid days spent in her mother’s ever-so-loved-and-tended-to garden, brunches and tea parties with her mother’s friends at least once a week and ever-important trips to the library to add to the stacks of books in her room.  While her upbringing was steeped in the belief that her purpose was to become the image of her mother, an adoring wife and mother tending her own family and her own garden with her own brunches, the books she read were something of a guiding light that showed her another way. Fairy-tales, adventures and stories of the great and fantastical had Eloise dreaming of life outside of what she had been raised to believe was proper and expected, though those dreams were generally squashed just as soon as they came to light; more time in the garden, more time spent with her mother and her friends, that was what she needed. Less books would do her good.
In truth, it was more her father that was to blame for her ambitions with the example that he set. His influence on his daughter was strong, and Eloise was always over-interested in his work at the hospital. His care and compassion for the people of their town ran deep and left a defining mark on her young mind. An interest in medicine sparked when Eloise was hardly in double-digits, and despite her father’s appreciation for his daughter’s interest in his work, her parents doubled down on their insistence that Eloise live a life of domesticity. Her father worked hard so that his wife and daughter would not have to, and that was the future he wanted for his daughter.
Eloise kept those dreams on the backburner, learning that it was easier to keep those thoughts to herself than to bring it up again. Her aspirations and dreams fell on deaf ears, and it was better to stay quiet than have that fire extinguished time and time again. She focused on school, still spending her time with her nose pressed into books at every available turn. In every way, it appeared that she had reluctantly conformed to her parents’ wishes, even if she still yearned to follow in her father’s footsteps. It was easier to go with the current than against it, even if it left Eloise feeling like her future wasn’t her own.
It was hard, trying to find purpose when her path in life felt so rigid and out of reach from what she wanted. He made it easier, giving Eloise something to focus on that wasn’t doom and gloom or frustration. He made her smile, and at first that was enough; soon, she realized that he and he alone could make her heart pound right out of her chest in a way she had only read about, and it was twice as meaningful because she had chosen him. Naturally, her parents didn’t approve, but that was something she chose to ignore. Truthfully, it gave her just the slightest bit of satisfaction. She’d yielded in so many other ways, but in this way she would not.
Her parents were displeased when she began to work for the Travelodge shortly after graduating from high school, but Eloise found joy in being able to provide for herself even in just a part-time manner. Their opinions were still ringing loud and clear like church bells on Sunday: it was temporary, they insisted, as she’d marry and have a family of her own soon and then she’d be able to stay at home and live the life they dreamed. Of course, every time she brought up marriage or engagement or anything long-term with the man she’d chosen, she was met with objections. He did not fit the bill they’d ordered, and in their view was just as temporary as her job.
Even with the sense of fulfillment from her part-time gig and the happy hours spent with who she believed to be her one true love (just like in those fairytales, all those years ago), she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something missing. The call towards medicine was still so strong, though she’d never even applied to college. She knew her parents would never approve, and despite her age she still sought their approval. She ached and longer for her life to mean something and knew she would never find purpose from behind a service desk, or with a stupid cross-stitch or book in hand on a porch swing.
And then came the war, and the draft. And then he was gone, and what meaning she’d found for herself in life felt as though it was slipping through her fingers. Time to break out those old and well-worn rosary beads, keep them in her pocket, taking time to finger through them during quiet moments with the thought of his quick and safe return the only thing on her mind. Eloise missed him in a physical way that she could not escape, and adjusting to contact only through letters was strange and took more time than she liked to admit. Work was a welcome distraction, though even that couldn’t help her thoughts from wandering: what would happen if she lost him? Who would she even be if she lost him? Best not to think about it, but she’d never been good at keeping her thoughts in line with what was best for her. Best to put her energy into those letters, writing her heart onto the paper to send away to him. Her heart was always safest with him, after all, even in a warzone. So she’d pour it all out for him, bleeding onto the paper along with the lipstick marks and a few spritzes of the perfume he’d always liked best.
They’d be married when he got back, they’d decided. There was no reason to wait any longer, even if her parents disapproved. Hell, maybe she’d finally mail those college applications away finally and take a dive at two dreams.
If he made it back. When.

We are back from DC! It was a really good trip. And thankfully I am not in as much pain today. Basically no pain. I had a great trip but I am glad to be home.
Today was a chill travel day. And that was really good. I slept pretty well but my body wanted to keep sleeping. Getting up was hard. But after a five minute rest James made me get up and I went to get ready.
We were mostly packed already. And while I was able to get most of my stuff in my backpack James would take my hair brush and the souvenirs we got. And James basically carried my backpack all day. Which was not nessecary but was appreciated.
We check out of the hotel and walked to Founding Farmers. Kali from camp recommended it for brunch and it was a great choice. Good job Kali.
We got biscuits to start. Our waitress, Jenn, was great. And I got an eggs Benedict with spinach and tomato. And James got fancy oatmeal and bacon. I worked on uploading out wedding pictures to a Google drive. And when I went to wash my hands James told Jenn is was our honeymoon and she brought us beignets with candles and it was so sweet!!
So we left there in really high spirits. And James figured out which way we needed to go and then we were off.
We actually walked past the white house this time. Saw the monument. Flipped off the capital building. I needed to take a little break in the middle of the walk but we made it to the sculpture garden and I really am glad we went.
We decided to save the rest of the art museum and the other places we had talked about going. We have the rest of our lives, and our Mondays off, to check them off the list. And we really had a lot to do at home.
So we walked to union station. We made great time. James got our tickets and I waited with our bags. And soon the train was boarding.
We had to walk to the ends of the earth (the platform actually was dirt by the time we got to where the train would let us on) but we got on and got good seats.
I listened to music the whole ride. James read on their phone. I enjoyed watching the trees outside. We both were fighting to keep our eyes open.
Walking home from the train station was a little tough. I bumped into someone in the train station and I felt so bad but I was very much not aware of my space.
But we made it back here. And I was so excited to see Sweetp. And he seemed happy to see us.
There was so much to do though. We had to do laundry and get things put away and open our gifts and get all of our plants inside. It was just a lot.
I started with feeding everyone. I had some cake. And then I started taking all of our kitchen stuff off the shelves so we could swap out the shelf in James's room so that the plants could all come in and have space. And so I would tackle that project. Pretty pleased honestly. And glad that I could dust everything before it got put away.
James would handle the plants. And I would start organizing our decorations. I got a little overwhelmed. But got a break when Mr Will came over. He is very upset he missed our wedding. He was out of town and didn't realize the date. So I showed him a bunch of pictures and we talked. He is so sweet.
He played with Sweetp for a while. And then he was off. And I was back to sorting.
We don't have everything back here since the car was full. But we got a lot and we will have to find somewhere to store stuff. But that is a problem for another day.
We opened gifts when James came back from putting gas in the car. Somehow we have ended up with 3 different grills. Well sort of. We got one camp grill, one heating source personal fire place, and a regular grill. But we already have two grills. So thankfully this one has a gift receipt for target. And we will probably get a foot bath thing instead.
One of James's cousins made us a beautiful quilt that I love so much. And I'm just so thankful for them that they spent so much time on this?? Like that is so nice. I also just love how it looks. I love handmade gifts.
We had dinner and did more post wedding related stuff. Some more tidying up. James put clothes away and I worked on unpacking and choosing outfits for the week.
I took a bath and tried to make my hair soft again. Went pretty well. And I felt good after.
I made my Ren fair outfit for this weekend. And I took my nail polish off. James helped me sort my jewelry box.
And now I am just. Very tired. I hope I can just fall asleep easily. Tomorrow I plan on just resting and catching up on knitting. And maybe some cleaning but I'm not that worried.
I hope you all sleep well. I hope you are filled with love. I am really excited to sleep in my own bed with my husband. Wild! Goodnight!!

Trabuco Canyon Fire: An Incredibly destructive Southern California wildfire Recently wreaking havoc in Southern California, the Trabuco Canyon Fire left a path of damage. Driven by dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds, the fire began in the rocky terrain of Trabuco Canyon rapidly spreading thousands of acres endangering homes, wildlife, and life.
Origin and Propersion of the Fire Though the precise reason is still under investigation, initial accounts point to human involvement perhaps starting the fire. The fires quickly spread throughout the steep slopes and thick brush of the canyon thanks in part to the dry vegetation and strong winds. Mobilized to fight the fire from all throughout the state, the steep terrain and erratic wind patterns made battle difficult for the firefighters.
Influence on the Society Many of the hundreds of people displaced from their homes by the Trabuco Canyon Fire returned to discover their houses had been damaged or destroyed. Local fauna suffered as well when animals had to flee the fast growing flames. Although no recorded deaths, several people suffered injuries and many buildings—including businesses and homes—were lost.
Efforts at Recovery and Response Relief efforts to assist persons impacted by the fire are being coordinated by local authorities as well as state and federal entities. Although the fire has been contained thanks in great part to firefighters, the path to recovery is long. Set up to help displaced citizens, evacuation centers are already helping to evaluate damage and start rebuilding.
In conclusion The Trabuco Canyon Fire reminds us sharply of the terrible effects of California wildfires. Preparation and community resilience are still absolutely vital in reducing future disasters as the state struggles with progressively frequent and catastrophic fires.

Symbiosexuals: Understanding a Unique Sexual Orientation
In the ever-evolving landscape of human sexuality, new terms and identities continue to emerge, reflecting the diverse experiences and feelings of people across the world. One such term that has garnered attention is "symbiosexual." While not widely recognized or scientifically validated, the term is used by some individuals to describe a unique and deeply personal sexual orientation that centers around the concept of symbiosis.
What Does "Symbiosexual" Mean?
Symbiosexuality is a term that derives from the word "symbiosis," which in biology refers to a close and often long-term interaction between two different biological organisms. In the context of sexuality, being symbiosexual implies a deep emotional, psychological, or even spiritual connection with a partner, where the relationship feels mutually nourishing and interdependent. For symbiosexuals, this connection is the foundation of their sexual attraction and romantic interest.
The Essence of Symbiosis in Symbiosexuality
In a symbiotic relationship, both parties benefit and contribute to each other's well-being. This concept translates into symbiosexuality by emphasizing the importance of mutual support, growth, and emotional intimacy in a relationship. For symbiosexuals, the sexual attraction is deeply intertwined with the emotional bond they share with their partner. The relationship is not just about physical intimacy but about a holistic connection that encompasses the mind, body, and soul.
How Does Symbiosexuality Differ from Other Orientations?
Symbiosexuality differs from other sexual orientations in its focus on the relationship's symbiotic nature. While most sexual orientations are defined by the gender or sexes to which an individual is attracted, symbiosexuality is more about the quality and depth of the connection between partners. It is not limited by gender or sexual preference; instead, it is defined by the nature of the bond itself.
The Importance of Emotional Connection
For symbiosexuals, the emotional connection in a relationship is paramount. They may not experience sexual attraction without a strong emotional bond, which makes their experience similar to demisexuality, where individuals require a deep emotional connection before they feel sexually attracted to someone. However, symbiosexuality specifically emphasizes the mutual, symbiotic nature of the relationship, where both partners are equally invested in each other's well-being.
Challenges and Misconceptions
As a relatively new and lesser-known term, symbiosexuality can be misunderstood or dismissed by others. Some may see it as just another label in an already crowded field of sexual identities, while others may not understand the importance of emotional and relational symbiosis in sexual attraction. Symbiosexuals might face challenges in finding partners who share or understand their orientation, leading to feelings of isolation or frustration.
Acceptance and Validation
For those who identify as symbiosexual, finding acceptance and validation is crucial. Like any other sexual orientation, symbiosexuality is a legitimate way of experiencing attraction and relationships. It's important for individuals to feel comfortable with their identity and to seek out communities or partners who understand and respect their needs.
Conclusion
Symbiosexuality represents a unique approach to love and attraction, where the depth of emotional and relational symbiosis plays a central role. For symbiosexuals, a relationship is not just about physical or romantic attraction but about a deep, interdependent bond that nurtures both partners. As with any sexual orientation, understanding, acceptance, and respect are key to supporting those who identify as symbiosexual and ensuring that they can live authentically and happily in their relationships.

Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers out there! I'm grateful for the opportunity in my life to be a mother, to our son, Hobie, as well as a mother figure to other people, including my siblings. A wonderful mother I will always remember was Martha Arnett, my dear friend and a member of our Soul Sisters women's support group for many years, seen below in a winter holiday group picture in the white sweater. She was also my first employee at our retail store, Ecology House, and a member of the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship for many years.
Tumblr media
A few years after Martha died our Fellowship purchased a church in Lafayette, which we remodeled to make suitable for us. One day as I was weeding in the front of the building I received from Martha, I believe, the inspiration to plant a memorial garden. When the board approved a memorial garden in Martha's name, the other Soul Sisters helped me to fund the hardscape and the plants and we created a very special garden which was loved by us and many people at the Fellowship.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, during the remodel of the church a few years ago, the garden was destroyed. But, just as Martha's memory was stronger than Death, the garden is rejuvenating in front of our eyes and, with the Fellowship's new landscaping plans, will hopefully regain some of its former glory.
Tumblr media
This garden won't be called Martha's Garden anymore, but there will be a place on the grounds, we have been assured, where Martha and other members who have passed on, will be remembered and honored.
Tumblr media
Of course I always remember my mother, Nicki, on Mother's Day and all she did for our family. She was a kind, loving, nurturing mother and a smart, resourceful, and hard-working business woman. She was an inspiration to me and my sisters, as well as anyone who knew her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the Fellowship service, which was lovely, I drove to meet Bruce, Hobie, Katie, Maple, and Katie's family in Longmont at the TGIF restaurant for brunch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katie is a wonderful mother to little Maple. She is continuing to study for her Masters in Psychology and to adjust to a very big change in her life, and we are doing all we can to help her and Hobie with child care as well as the additional expenses which arrived with the growth of their little family. Katie's mom, Courtney, and dad, Bill, also share with us this commitment to spend as much time with Maple as they are able to do given that they have full time careers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was really great that we could all be together on this special day and that Katie's brother, Jack, or Uncle Jack as we now call him, could join us, too. Maple was happy to have all this attention from so many people who love her and she behaved very well during the meal.

In the world of Filipino fashion, the Barong Tagalog reigns supreme as a symbol of elegance and cultural heritage. Its timeless design and intricate craftsmanship make it a versatile garment suitable for various occasions. However, with the rise of colored barongs, the question arises: when is it appropriate to wear a classic barong versus a colored one? Let’s explore the nuances of each and when to don them for your next event.
Classic Barong Tagalog

The classic barong is a staple for formal occasions and traditional events such as weddings, graduations, and formal gatherings. Its pristine color exudes sophistication and elegance, making it the perfect choice for ceremonies where a touch of formality is required.
Here are some occasions where the classic barong shines:

Weddings
Whether you’re the groom, a member of the wedding party, or a guest, a classic white barong is a timeless choice for wedding ceremonies. It symbolizes purity, tradition, and reverence for the occasion.

Formal Dinners
For formal dinners, galas, or state events, a white barong paired with dark trousers and dress shoes makes a refined statement. It showcases your respect for the event’s formality while honoring Filipino heritage.
Cultural Celebrations
Traditional Filipino festivals, cultural performances, and national holidays are ideal occasions to wear a classic white barong. It connects you to your heritage and demonstrates pride in Filipino culture.
Colored Barong

Colored barongs offer a contemporary twist on the traditional garment, adding flair and personality to your outfit. While they may not be as formal as their white counterparts, colored barongs are suitable for a variety of occasions where a more relaxed dress code is acceptable.
Here’s when to opt for a colored barong:

Semi-Formal Events
Cocktail parties, casual gatherings, and semi-formal events allow for more sartorial freedom. A colored barong in hues like navy, gray, or pastels adds a touch of personality to your outfit without compromising on style.

Daytime Functions
Unlike white barongs, which are typically reserved for evening events, colored barongs are versatile enough to be worn during the day. Whether you’re attending a brunch, garden party, or daytime wedding, a colored barong in a lighter shade or subtle pattern complements the cheerful ambiance.

Creative Occasions
If you’re attending an artsy event, fashion show, or themed party, a colored barong allows you to showcase your creativity and individuality. Experiment with bold colors, patterns, or embroidered details to make a statement and express your unique style.
Ultimately, the choice between a classic barong and a colored one depends on the formality of the event, your personal style preferences, and cultural considerations. Whether you opt for timeless elegance or contemporary flair, wearing a barong is a celebration of Filipino heritage and a symbol of pride and identity.

Posted: 3/1/2024 | March 1st, 2024 Dublin is a literary, gloomy city. Because there are so many writers and poets living there, it is an excellent city for history buffs and book lovers. There are castles, classic pubs, and lots of live music venues to be found here. Dublin's relatively small size makes it simple to visit all the attractions, events, and walking tours. On foot, you can go almost anywhere. Consequently, unless it is far from the center, do not worry too much about a hotel's location when considering one. Additionally, the city's tram system facilitates easy transportation. Here is my selection of Dublin's top hotels: 1. Hotel Harcourt This three-star hotel is situated in the heart of the city and is housed in a collection of old Georgian townhouses from the eighteenth century, one of which was once owned by renowned author George Bernard Shaw. There is a restaurant and beer garden on site, as well as a bar with live music every weekend. The rooms are not large, but they have lots of natural light, wooden accents, and lovely color pops that make the room feel brighter. Each room has a desk, flatscreen TV, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are rather small, but they have excellent water pressure, which is a huge plus in my opinion. There is also breakfast included. 2. Clarence Hotel Located in the boisterous Temple Bar area, this hotel was bought by Bono and the Edge from U2 in 1992. It was completely renovated a few years later and is considered one of the coolest places to stay in the city (though it’s no longer owned by the duo). A boutique four-star property, the hotel has an arty, quirky design that features lots of colorful art and wallpaper. The rooms were designed by Irish artisans and feature stylish custom furnishings like white oak floors, colorful and plush headboards, and unique artwork on the walls. The bathrooms have powerful rainfall shower heads as well as limestone flooring and tiled walls. In-room amenities include the standard offerings (flatscreen TV, desk, minibar, coffee/tea maker, desks). Downstairs, there’s a luxurious cocktail bar and a fantastic restaurant serving elevated Irish fare, including daily breakfast and a bottomless brunch on Sundays.   3. Maldron Hotel, Kevin Street Situated on the edge of the Portobello neighborhood, the Maldron is a comfortable place to stay with a view of St. Patrick's Cathedral. It’s a sleek four-star hotel with a simple, minimalist design. The rooms are large with lots of natural light, and the beds are large and comfortable. You also get flat-screen TVs, coffee and tea makers, desks, and free Wi-Fi. The bathrooms are spacious, with showers that have good water pressure. I loved the breakfast buffet, which had tons of variety and lots of fresh fruit. It’s a great place to stay if you want to be centrally located. 4. The Dean This is a hip and funky boutique hotel. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re bright and uniquely designed, with colorful furnishings and artwork on the walls. All rooms include a flatscreen smart TV (with streaming services), minibar, Nespresso machines, desk, and free Wi-Fi. The white-tiled bathrooms come with powerful rainfall showers, Bluetooth speakers, and Lux Bath products. I also love the chill rooftop bar and restaurant’s view of the city. There’s also a sauna and a heated outdoor pool. Overall, you really get a lot of value here, considering the amenities and central location.   5. The Alex Just south of the Docklands, this is a comfortable and stylish four-star hotel. The rooms here are sleek, with rich, deep colors and elegant design touches (like artwork and wooden desks). The beds are large and comfortable, and rooms also boast large smart TVs, desks, and fast Wi-Fi. While the standard rooms don’t have a coffee/tea maker, there is a café on-site where you can grab a drink. I especially liked the rainfall showers, as they had great pressure. The staff here really go out of their way to help and keep things clean (the property is always spotless).
The hotel also has a fitness center and a few excellent in-house eateries. The buffet breakfast (which can be included in your stay) has a ton of options too.   6. The Spencer Hotel This four-star hotel overlooks the river and boasts an array of upscale amenities, including an indoor pool, a fitness center, a cocktail bar, and a cozy restaurant. The breakfast is great too, with lots of variety (including vegetarian and vegan options). If you happen to be traveling by car, they have a secure parking lot on-site (which isn’t common in Dublin). Rooms here are spacious and minimally designed in a soft, pastel color palette. They have lots of natural light too, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The bathrooms are also large, with a shower/tub combo and complimentary Rituals bath products. Rooms also have a mini-fridge and a coffee/tea maker. It’s a classy property that offers excellent value for your money. 7. The Hendrick Smithfield This fun and quirky three-star hotel is covered in artwork by local artists. The rooms aren’t huge, but they make good use of the space and have all the standard amenities, including flatscreen TVs, coffee and tea makers, desks, and Wi-Fi. Some rooms even have bunk beds, which makes it a nice choice for traveling families. The bathrooms are well lit, and the showers have good pressure. There’s a bar on-site if you get thirsty, with over a dozen beers on tap. The Hendrick is a solid midrange option in Smithfield, a less-touristed and hip area of the city with great pubs and cool coffee shops.   I always love visiting Dublin. Brimming with cozy pubs, world-class whiskey, and home to an impressive literary history, Dublin is a city with character and one of my favorite places to visit in Europe. Stay at one of the hotels above to supercharge your visit.  Posted: 3/1/2024 | March 1st, 2024 Dublin is a literary, gloomy city. Fine China
My grandparents have always lived a mundane life. Ever since their kids grew up and moved out, they took it upon themselves to adopt a very American way of living. They’d wake up in linen to start their daily routine of going to church, having brunch and their little dinnerettes, TV watching, knitting, doing whatever else old people do, then heading to bed at the slightest bit of sunset. Their time in that house will always be wholesome to me. It was this sweet little cottage with a garden in the back. Fully formed with a white-picket fence. As for the inside of the house, it was filled with porcelain dolls, fine china, and my grandmother's scattered beauty products along the bathroom counter. There came a day, however, lavishly sunny and humid in the summer of 79’. I woke up at my usual time and begrudgingly made my way to the kitchen, catching a glimpse of my mother puffing away at her morning cigarettes in front of the news broadcast. This had been her routine since I was five, so of course I wasn’t phased at all. That was until I overheard something concerning my neighborhood.
