Do you happen to have any resources regarding accessibility in ttrpg design? About design, colours, phrasing of text or anything else that could be helpful!
I spent wayyyyy too long compiling all this - but it's important, and I appreciate you asking!!
Accessibility is a subject near and dear to my heart, and I will say up front that I'm not sure universal (aka accessible to everyone) design is possible, because people's needs can vary even within the same subset of similar disabilities (such as limited vision or blindness). BUT that doesn't mean we don't try to design for and make our games available to as many people as possible. Mismatch by Kat Holmes is a great read on design for accessibility in general, as is Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. You might also check out literally anything Alice Wong has ever done.
To start, I recommend this article on the Lenses of Accessibility.
(for reference, this article is about web/graphic design, so I'm going to try and distill the most salient points for game design)
We are going to primarily focus on a few of these lenses:
Color
Font
Images & Icons
Layout
Readability
Structure
Keyboard
More details under the cut.
Color
Why does color matter? Well, for starters, there's a lot of colorblind people out there. Contrast affects readability. Autistic people and people who suffer from occular migraines might be affected by particular vivid colors. There's lots of reasons to consider color and the work it is doing in your piece, but in general you can provide a black and white, high contrast version of your game to help users.
There are tools out there to figure out if your contrast meets certain readability standards, such as this one.
Font
Dyslexia and other visual processing issues can make font choice really important. Plus, some fonts really affect readability. Additionally, line height, justification, and size of text can affect readability.
Best practice would be to provide a plain-text version of your game (and beware of "dyslexia-friendly" fonts which may or may not actually help - sticking to a basic readability font like Arial, Tahoma, or Verdana, is safest). I like this style guide for reference.
Images & Icons
For visually-impaired people, it's important to use alt-text, descriptions, and/or captions to help screenreaders properly translate images. Tons and tons of details that could go into this, but there are better people than me to describe it.
Layout
We've talked about this a bit, but there's tons of resources for this. There was recently a great writeup about Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast in terms of layout that I highly recommend.
Readability
More of the thing we've already talked about - it really is a combination of all the other lenses that comes down to readability. Audio versions of your game are always a good way to avoid the restrictions of screen readers, but can be expensive to produce.
Structure
This is tables. Tables are a nightmare for screenreaders, but including them as images can also be a problem. The short solution is "don't use tables" but that's not necessarily great for seeing people. The section in this blog is really great when talking about options for structure.
Keyboard
Debated on whether to include this, but given how many games are being read as purely digital files, I think it's important to have workable interactive elements that can be navigated through without a mouse. Some of that is going to come down to the programs being used to open your files. But if there are things you can do on your end (such as labeling form fillable fields on an interactive character sheet), they're worth doing!
Please understand that this isn't an exhaustive list. There's tons of resources out there and technology and standards are constantly changing.
It's also is important to note that even doing one of these things is helpful. You might look at this list and go "wow that's too hard" but I promise you, it's worth it. My games do not all have accessible versions! That's something I'm trying to rectify. The biggest part of that for me is thinking about accessibility from the start instead of at the end! But we can start today, and that's better than not starting.
The most important thing to remember are that disabled people are NOT a monolith - needs will differ from person to person. Accessible design makes gaming better for everyone!

Stranger things / chapter 3

Summary: Everything in life seemed limited to walls of whites and rainbows. Caged within the confines of the lab. But an accident that involved a group of teenagers and the upside down world finally let him free. In a funny turn of events he found himself hiding in a step sibling's shed. A redhead that loves video games and a blond that spends his time making sure to keep his good looks.
Character: Male child OC
Warnings: Possible to descriptive scenes, child abuse, use of drugs and bad language.
A/N: I ask you to take into account that I lack experience writing in English and there'll be some grammatical mistakes because my native language is Spanish.
Prev part - Masterlist - Next part
It was early in the morning, every kid was either at school or at home because theyâre sick. All except for one.
Thirteen walked with tranquility through the groups of trees scattered all over the town. He found that the only onces that walked there were a few really young kids, other than that, the coast is completely clear.
But what is not completely clear is his mind. The day before he saw something that brought back awful memories. He found out, his father is not the only man like that in the world and he isnât the only one like him out there. He would like to say that he doesnât understand Billy completely, but he does.
The teenage has moments of calmness when he usually keeps to himself or even glances at him as if inspecting his soul, and moments of complete chaos when he is hostile against anything and anyone near him.
Billy was angry at his father, that much was evident, but he couldnât do a thing because he knew it was useless. That was a feeling he could relate a little bit to well.
It happened too often to him in the lab. Loosing his papaâs respect brought a lot of punishment with it and answering it only left him in pain. His only solution was to hold back and resist. But that led to future explosions where he sent his guards flying or breaking an entire room with a scream.
He was labeled as dangerous and forced to stay isolated.
He was thinking of ways to help make him feel better but nothing came to mind other than a present.
But what?
Or maybe, some company? Thatâs what he wanted when he was in the lab. Maybe thatâs what Billy needs at home.
Before he could think about other options, his senses detected something. He heard a pair of soft footsteps quite some distance further in front of him but instead of dreading to find the person a familiar feeling made itself present in the back of his mind. He waited.
As silent as ever, he walked cautiously towards the sound.
Both kids that found themselves in front of one another gasped in surprise. They know each other.
The curly haired girl smiled at the boy receiving a smile in return.
âEleven.â Whispered the boy, walking closer to her.
âThirteen.â Once close enough they engulfed each other in a big hug, giggling, happy to realize they both basically survived.
The kids pulled away, still connected by their arms, smiling like no other day.
They had so much to talk about.
â-and then, she taught how to skateboard.â Commented the boy with glee.
They have been talking for about an hour about whatâs happened the last year after escaping the lab and getting in contact with the upside down. So far, everythingâs been peaceful.
He was happy to know that she was also taken care off by a good guy, even though she puts a kind of weird expression when she mentions him, she stills seems to trust him a lot too.
âButâŚâ he made a pause and sunk in the log they were both seating at the reminder of what happened a few hours ago. âHer papaâŚâ he turned his eyes from his joined hands to the attentive look of eleven. âHe is like our papa.â
Eleven gasped softly at the revelation.
âShe and Billy hide me.â His lips curved a little at the sides. He always gets a warm and fluffy feeling in his chest at the reminder of people that care about his safety. âShe gave me clothes.â He gripped the fabric of the blue hoodie in his chest. The same that keeps his body heat from escaping. âAnd a name. Magnus.â
Eleven gave him a close-lipped smile. They donât know each other as well as she would like too because they were separated in the lab. They met only after the rest of the kids disappeared and their father needed more power to connect with the unknown world. But couldnât interact that much in a friendly way under the scrutinizing eyes of their handlers. He always wore a frown accompanied with tired eyes. So she is happy to see him finally smile, even in the slightest.
âAnd you?â He asked, giving her the opportunity to express something that might be bothering her.
âHopper is good.â She nodded. âBut he lies.â The kid raised his eyebrows in surprise. âHe says, one day Iâll leave to see my friends but that never happens. He promised soon, but soon never comes.â
Thirteen lowered his head in sadness. He knows that feeling, or he knew, before living with his only friend.
âHe says itâs dangerous, that itâs for my protection.â The kid wrapped an arm around her in a side hug to comfort her.
In moments like that he wished he was more like magneto and fight for their freedom.
But he couldnât, he was just a kid after all. All he could do was make her aware that sheâs not alone.
A certain blonde haired teenage boy was currently tightening a screw on the engine of his blue baby Camaro.
He was finishing changing the air filter. After what happened the day before with his father he has been looking for ways to release some pent-up pressure. He already said goodbye to his last hook up an hour ago, he doesnât know where Max is because she was late and he left her to skate home alone and he already worked out in the living room but nothing seemed to make his anger decrease.
Billy huffed once he was finished, cleaning the sweat in his forehead with the back of his dirtied hand. It wasnât enough but thatâll have to do.
âJesus.â Exclaimed the blond once he turned around and found the boy behind him, startling him. Weirdly attentive to what he was doing. âWhat the hell are you doing there? Are you a creep?â He asked with annoyance. He had almost sent the tool in his hand flying.
The kid just kept looking at him and the car with his big blue eyes and shrugged. He didnât know what âcreepâ means.
Billy raised a brow at the look of wonder in the kids face. He has seen it a few times before, directed to him, like trying to figure him out, which makes him edgy, but this time it was directed more to his car. âNever seen a car before?â He asked mockingly.
Unknown to him, the first time the boy saw a car was when he escaped from the lab. Ever since that day, the younger one has been greatly interested in the weird machines that roll faster than any adult he has ever seen runs.
Billy furrowed his brows when the only answer he got was the kid leaning his head to the side, still looking at the car.
Was he really that stupid? No, he couldnât be. They would have already found him if that was the case, but he would have to live under a rock to not know what a car is.
âWhat, cat got your tongue, brat?â Thirteen shook his head and stick his tongue out to demostrarte it was still there making Billy huffed and turned to his car.
What a weird kid.
He grabbed the carâs hood and slam it shut to make sure it was closed.
âCool.â Alluded the boy walking closer to the drivers side.
âWhat?â Thirteen glanced at Billy for a moment before returning to the inside of the vehicle repeating his word.
âCool.â He is not completely sure if his using correctly the word Max taught him. âA word to describe something thatâs better than amazing.â Is what she said, and that is exactly what he thinks about the car.
âHuh, at least you have taste.â Said Billy as he wiped his hands in a towel he had hanging from his shortâs waistband. Until he got an idea. Something that would help him destress and he used to do it a lot in California. âHey brat.â
Thirteen turned towards Billy, not knowing what âbratâ means but understanding he wanted his attention. He blinked a few times, watching the weird look in the teenagerâs eyes. He had an idea.
Billy would never in his life know what led him to do what he did, but the next thing he knows, he is driving top speed in one of the many lonely roads in the outer sides of Hawkins with the kid in the copilot seat. He loves to use the backroads.
He thought the kid would be scared shitless, however, the kid was grasping the seatbelt like his life depends on it (because it does) with the biggest smile Billy has ever seen.
But he doesnât care that the kid didnât get scared he was too concentrated in the adrenaline coursing through his veins at the speed to actually pay attention. He didnât even light the cigarette between his lips because it wasnât needed.
Billy whooped in ecstasy and bobbed along the surprisingly not so loud music. It was more important the roar of the engine than the beat coming from the stereo.
âThatâs what Iâm talking about.â Cheered Billy with his always sharp smile.
But that wasnât the best part, he was waiting for the right moment to put his car modifications to the test. In a way he couldnât in the crowded city of California.
His smile widened when he saw what he was looking for. A wide straight doble lane road.
Itâs show time.
He stepped on the break and pulled the hand brake simultaneously, then turned the wheel completely to one side in a second. The car instantly followed the action, turning with so much force skidding the tires in the street. Making a U turn by drifting.
Billy laughed loudly while the kid beside him screamed for his life. The wheels scraped the floor until the vehicle came to a stop in the other side of the road. Facing the opposite direction.
Not waiting for anything, he pushed the hand break back down and step on the gas. The wheels screeched against the ground, leaving marks, before moving at full speed back to the house.
At the speed he was driving it only took him 10 minutes to arrive.
He got out of the car after killing the engine and lit the cigarette between his lips, taking a drag as if it was pure oxygen he was inhaling. Finally he felt a little bit better.
So lost in his relief he didnât pay attention to the passenger in his car. He only turned his head back when he heard a thud. He found the passenger seat empty and the door opened. He huffed thinking the kid just left without closing the door but he stop when he went around the car and found the kid basically face planted in the dirt while giggling.
Billy scoffed a laugh almost sending the cigarette in mouth flying. He was positive the kid was high with adrenaline. He saw the kid try to stand up in his jelly legs only to fall on his side.
âWhat the hell?â Billy didnât need to turn around to know who that was. He merely rolled his eyes when the redhead rushed by him to get to the kid. âWhat did you do to him?â She asked when the kid tried to stand up again with her help but stumbled to the side like he was drunk. She got even more confused when she heard him giggle.
âI fixed your damn brat.â He grumbled taking a drag of his cigarette before throwing it to the ground and returning to the house. He wanted to take a shower.
Max looked between the retreating back of her step brother and the kid seating in the dirt with a big smile in his face.
Could it be possible that Billy changed his mind?
No, that is not something Billy could ever do.
But either way, she was relieved that he was at least tolerating the kidâs presence.
If Max thought they had made a progress with Billy after the ride he had with Magnus. She was wrong.
The very next day his anger returned when he saw her talking to Lucas. There was no problem with that, she didnât plan to be part of their club of hypocrites anyway.
Well, that was her plan, until the very next day she wanted to go to the arcade to play dig dug and forget everything only to be tricked in to the breakroom by Lucas himself. They argued about the veracity of the fanciful story Lucas told her ensuring that it was the truth.
Leaving the arcade Billy saw him at the door. At first he acted eerily calm while accusing her of disobeying and lying. But a silent threat was made evident later in the afternoon when Billy broke her skateboard when reversing in his car.
It was his way of telling her he could âaccidentallyâ break something without a problem.
He became a ticking time bomb and she didnât want to be there to see it explode because she would be the collateral damage, and possibly with her, Magnus too. Even though he has mostly ignored the kid in the last days, it was obvious the anger he was holding in.
Taking every posible outcome Max took a decision. Sheâll go back to Cali to her father and sheâll take Magnus with her.
The kid already had a new name, and no one will be looking for a kid in another city, miles away from were he was.
Thatâs how she found herself in this position. Fidgeting with her fingers inside her hoodie pockets, feeling the money between her fingers and watching attentively at Magnus sitting in her bed and messing with her Walkman.
She got the money by telling her mother that she wanted to buy a new shirt but she wanted the money to buy it herself and avoid any kind of harsh comments from Neil if she went with them to the mall in the neighboring town. Her mother, illusioned with the possibility of her daughter buying something more feminine, gladly gave her double the money she needed to buy the shirt. She thanked the heavens her mother did because she forgot the amount of money itâll cost to buy two bus tickets.
She forgot a slight detail. The distance between her and her father was much more now that she is in Hawkins than when she was in Cali, and the tickets would be more expensive.
She already prepared two bags with things for her and Magnus. In that precise moment she has the perfect opportunity to leave with him. Her parents arenât home and theyâll come back until night and Billy was too busy working on his muscles for his next hook up of the night to notice.
Gaining some courage Max sat next to the kid in her bed. She took a breath and spoke. âMag-â
She was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell, someone calling at the door.
The kid raised his head, looking between Max and the bedroomâs closed door. He was to concentrated on the Walkman that he didnât pay attention to the footsteps at the front door. Itâs not like Billyâs blasting music trough the house helped at all.
He was already used to the volume of the music, but hearing it with the door open still hurt his head. At least the wood helps to drown out the sound. But he was still relieved that itâs not as loud as the alarms in the lab. That was a real headache.
He jumped from the bed when doorbell sounded again. He needed to hide. He turned to the window but stopped, if the person in the door somehow comes to the backside of the house heâll be screwed. He turned to the bed. He doesnât fit under it. As his last and only option, the kid threw himself inside the closet and closed the door, always leaving a crack to let the light come inside.
Max pressed her lips together trying to suppress a laugh. For a moment he looked like a headless chicken.
Her poorly covered smile disappeared when she heard her stepbrother yell at the next ring. âMax, are you getting that or what?â
Exasperated with him she yelled her answered âOkay.â She opened stood up stomping her way out of the room, closing the door behind her
âI swear to God Max.â Fumed the blond getting an eye roll and a glare from his sister when she walked by him. He just proceeded to lift the weights again.
From the closet, Magnus could slightly hear the door opening and closing over the music, along with Maxâs voice from the other side of the door, indicating that now she was outside with whoever was at the door. He couldnât tell what they were talking about because the music muffled their voices.
He waited for a moment, relieved that Max at least sounded like she knew the person outside. He was also aware that it wasnât Neil, he could have heard his truck parking or his gruff voice booming in the house.
He waited a little while until she finally came back, closing the door behind her. She turned to Magnus watching the window in wariness. She knew why. Lucas was outside of the window. âMagnus.â She called for his attention.
He turned to her, blinking a few times.
âI⌠ammm.â She fidget in her place looking for the words to say. She didnât know why she was so nervous, she just made up her mind and decided sheâll find out whatâs really happening with Lucas and his group because deep down she still wishes to have friends. âIâll live with the stalker for a few hours. He says he has proof or something.â
âWhere?â Came the silent question from the kid. Max almost didnât hear it with Billyâs blasting music coming through the door.
âTo the old junkyard.â Magnus lifted a brown and tilted his head slightly to the side. There was nothing in there other than trash and forgotten stuff. Nevertheless, he nodded, understanding that she is going there like really few other teenagers do. âOkay, then. Iâll be back.â She said, making the reference of the terminator movie even though Magnus didnât catch it.
She turned to one of the two opened windows. The one closest to the bed. She stepped on the woodshed outside before stopping and turning to Magnus who was seating in her closet.
âDonât talk with Billy if he doesnât talk to you, by the way. Heâs not in the mood and can get cranky.â Magnus smiled at the thought but nodded again.
Donât talk to Billy. Copy.
Max said a soft goodbye before exiting when she heard the boy outside telling her to speed up. He even heard her commenting that whatever they were doing better be worth it.
Minutes later after she left, Magnus stayed in her closet. He was to engrossed in the Walkman she borrowed him.
The interest came when he returned from the store he likes to visit (steal from) with a cassette tape he found behind the garbage dump.
He put on the headphones and changed the tapes the way Max instructed him to. He pressed play instantly jumping in his place and accidentally trowing the headphones. The volume was too high. Even with the headphones in the floor he could hear it clearly.
He decreased the volume to the minimum before putting the headphones back on. The rhythm of the music was somewhat similar to the songs Billy hears when exercising but not as scandalous. He turned the Walkman over to see the tape through the see through cover. The letters in the side said âCall Me by blondieâ and something else he couldnât read due to the blurred sharpie. He likes it though.
He bobbed his head to the rhythm of the music, not caring that he could hear Billyâs music through the headphones. He liked it. He found his taste in music.
Still moving his head to the beat, he stood up and walked to the window farthest from the bed. He sat on the window sill dangling his feet for a couple of second before jumping out. He looked at the full woodshed beside him before returning to the shed. Walkman in hand.
Heâll wait for Max in there.
Itâs been a few hours and Max still hasnât retuned. Magnus got bored since he doesnât know where Maxâs tapes are and he canât read so well, so he decided to steal an apple from the Hargrovesâ fridge.
Meanwhile, the blond teenager was done exercising, taking a shower and currently sharpening his look before his date (hook up). He sprayed hair product in the hair locks that fell on his forehead. Turning over the bottle of colon, he spread a few drops of the liquid in his wrist, even going as far as to spread a little bit in the southern area.
He turned and posed in front of the mirror, smiling with satisfaction at the result. Taking a drag from his previously lit cigarette he leaned forward and blew the smoke against his reflexiĂłn, winking. Yep, he was ready.
His smile was erased once he heard someone calling at the door. He noticed the rush in the knock even over his blasting music. âBilly?â He knew that voice. The reason for witch his father decided it was a good idea to move.
Kind of.
âYeah, Iâm a little bit busy in here, Susan.â He answered uninterestedly.
âOpen the door. Right now.â He mentally cursed when he heard his fatherâs commanding voice in the other side. There was no way around this.
Genuinely curious he finally opened the door finding his father frowning face and the always present worried face of Susan shielding herself behind the man.
âWhatâs wrong?â He cut to the chase.
Neil wasnât at all impressed by his sonâs bluntness. âWhy donât you tell us?â
âBecause I donât know.â He answered with obviousness in his tone. They just appeared in his door insinuating something that he isnât aware of and yet, he is not surprised. Everything that goes wrong for Neil is always somehow his fault. No matter what.
âWe canât find Maxine-â Said Susan.
âAnd her windowâs open.â Interrupted the man like the boss that he believes himself. Billy faltered for a second, looking in another direction before regaining himself. Even he was surprised. She was in her room with the brat a few hours ago. âWhere is she?â Commanded Neil.
âI donât know.â
âYou donât know?â Scoffed the Man like his son was the worst dumbass in the world, annoying the younger.
âLook, Iâm sure she just, I donât know, went to the arcade or something.â Explained Billy, still not finding the force in his voice, kicking himself for it, and panicking internally. To avoid looking at the rising anger in his father eyes he went to the closet to retrieve his previously selected leather jacket. âIâm sure she is fine.â
Nike wasnât having any of it. âYou were supposed to watch her.â He commented, like he was just making an obvious observation.
Billy could clearly hear the covered anger under those words. But he couldnât stop himself from arguing. He was getting annoyed.
He sighed. âI know dad. I was. Itâs just you guys were three hours late, and, well, I have a date.â He slipped on the jacket and turned towards the man ready to face it and just leave. âIâm sorry, okay?â
âSo thatâs why youâve been staring at yourself in the mirror like some faggot instead of watching your sister?â
That did it.
âI have been looking after her all week, dad. Okay?â He snapped. âShe wants to run off, then thatâs her problem, all right?â Neil licked the interior of his cheek, concealing his anger with an eerie façade. âSheâs 13 years old. She shouldnât need a full-time babysitter. And she is not my sister.â He turned to the radio. Stopping the music abruptly only to feel his heart drop to his stomach when Neil grabbed him by the colar of his shirt and slammed him against the shelves beside the closet.
âWhat did we talk about?â Asked Neil in a condescending tone. Practically whispering it in Billyâs face.
The teenager panted in anger and fear. He couldnât answer fast enough when Neil slapped him in his left cheek, making him groan.
Susan, who once again couldnât leave the scenario only looked the other way, feeling guilty for putting him in that situation but not doing anything fearing she could be in his position.
Neil grabbed Billyâs chin to force him to look at him before pointing with the same hand. âWhat. Did. We⌠talked about?â He made emphasis in each word.
âRespect and responsibility.â
âThat is right.â Answered the man, pleased to have him under control once again. âNow, apologies to Susan.â
There was silence for a few seconds. Neil waiting for Billy while the blonde swallowed his pride and fear. âIâm sorry, Susan.â He said, never tacking his eyes from his fatherâs.
âItâs okay, Neil, really-â she was interrupted when the man once again rises his voice.
âNo, itâs not okay. Nothing about his behavior is okay. But heâs gonna make up for it.â He grumbled the last part. He finally stepped back to turn to look at Susan. âHeâs gonna call whatever whore heâs seeing tonight and cancel their date.â He said as if it was the most normal thing to say. âAnd then heâs gonna go find his sister. Like the good, kind, respecting brother that he is.â He turned once again to his son, already finished with the humiliation. âIsnât that right, Billy?â
Billy looked at his father with watery eyes hiding all that hate and anger he harbors towards the man. If only he could make him pay or just leave.
âItâs that right?â Yelled Neil when his first answer was only silence.
âYes, sir.â He said softly.
Neil sighted in annoyance, leaning closer to his son. âIâm sorry, I couldnât hear you.â
âYes. Sir.â He repeated. This time with more courage.
âFind max.â Demanded Neil with finality turning around and leaving the room, intimidating Susan enough for her to step away from his way.
Billy finally let the tears spill once the door was slammed close and hit the wall beside him. He hated him with all his being. He wanted to fight back, punch him or something, but the last time he tried to do it didnât end well for him.
Sucking his feelings up and drying his tears, he left his room to the back of the house. He thanked the heavens he parked the car in the back really close to were he needs to go. The shed.
Faster than he thought, Billy reached the wooden door and gentler than he wanted to, he opened the door (still slamming it open). âHey, brat.â He grumbled once inside.
Magnus raised his head looking at him with wide eyes. He knew it was Billy the one walking (stomping) towards the shed. But it still surprised him when the teenage barged in the shed and called for his attention, loudly.
Billy opened his mouth about to yell but stopped. He didnât want to scare the kid that looked like a frightened rabbit ready to bolt and end up running around like a headless chicken looking for Max for scaring him, or for his father to find him hiding a kid in the shed and get his butt kicked.
Instead he took a breath before talking. âWhereâs Max?â
The answer he got was the kid blinking in bewilderment hugging a comic to his chest.
âUgh, for fucksâŚâ he mumbled under his breath. âDo you know where is Max?â He repeated in a gentler voice, clearly containing his annoyance.
Magnus nodded his head slowly. Max told him to not talk to Billy if he didnât speak to him first, she didnât say anything about not telling him where she is.
Billy raised his eyebrows expectantly. âOkay, and?â
âThe old junkyard.â He answered softly.
Damn. Now he is in trouble. He doesnât know where that is. He slightly fidgeted in his place. âDo you know how to get there?â
Magnus nodded a slowly, still with the comic in his hands.
âOkay, then get in the car.â
Magnus instantly light up. He didnât care that Billy used a commanding voice, he was just happy to get a raid again.
The kid quickly rushed out of the shed as silent as a mouse with an annoyed teenager following him.
Billy was already donde for the night, but unfortunately and unknown for him, it would be the longest and most eventful life of his entire life.
Hope you like the new rout Iâm taking with this story.

A Very Basic How to Edit a Screenshot Tutorial
I had a request by PeachPlumbobs on Bluesky about how I edit my moodlets and use them on my Sims 4 screenshots. I used this as an opportunity to brush up a little on my Photopea skills to offer a free solution to anyone editing their sims screenshots. This is a quick and dirty tutorial. There are SO MANY MORE THINGS you can do with Photopea. Its basically a free to use, browser based, Photoshop. If you've ever worked with Photoshop, you will be comfortable here.
To follow along with this tutorial you need:
A screenshot of a moodlet and a screenshot you want to put it on top of.
Open Photopea in your browser
** I play and edit on a PC. Any keyboard shortcuts I mention are for PC.
First, we're going to open Photopea. It really is browser based. You don't need to download a thing to your computer. For this basic edit tutorial, I dragged and dropped a screenshot with a moodlet and a screenshot I wanted it overlayed on.
Notice how Photopea will open each image as its own tab. That's good. The question I was asked was how I edit and add moodlets. Personally, I use exactly what the game gives me. I'm going to show you how to cut them out with rounded corners here.
*To make your life easier, feel free to use the magnifier glass tool on the left to make the area you are working on bigger. If you need to move the whole image around, use the hand selection tool on the left side.
On the left side with the tools, you will find a button for shapes, click the rectangle one. On the top bar, just below the "Edit" button, you will see a drop down box that lets you change this from a shape to a path. Make it a path. On that same bar you will see an option to edit the corner radius. I changed it to 5px.
Use this path drawing tool to draw a rectangle over the part of the moodlet you want to see. I cut out the time remaining on the moodlet when I do this. I also cut out the icon - that's optional of course!
Once you have your path drawn, look to the right side of the screen. Over there, you want to switch it from layer view to Paths. After that, on the bottom of the right side is a button that lets you make that path into a selection. Switch the view on the right side back form Paths to Layers. Use the Arrow tool on the left side and click the center of your selection to make sure it is active.
On PC, you can use the keyboard short cut "Ctrl C" to copy the selection. Or, you can go to the top and click "Edit - Copy"
Switch tabs to the image you want to place the moodlet on. The PC keyboard shortcut is "Ctrl V" to place your copied selection on a new layer of this file. Or, you can click, "Edit - Paste"
Again, this is how I edit my moodlets and you don't have to do the same thing if you don't want to! Once my moodlet is placed as a new layer, I use the square selection tool on the left side to create a box around the moodlet icon. I then use the arrow tool to move the icon on top of the moodlet box with the text. Once completed, go to the top and press "Select - Deselect"
How to add that nifty translucent outline around the moodlet. Make sure you are on the layer your moodlet is on! Go to the bottom right and click the button labeled, "eff." Go up the pop-up list until you get to "Stroke." Click on that and a layer style box will pop up. For this example, I set the width to 10px, the opacity to 40%, and the color to white. There you go, you've given that moodlet a little pop!
This is a quick tutorial, but I'd be remiss if I didn't follow through with the rest of the image editing process here. I know I plan to make this image a square when I save it, so I moved my moodlet over where the square would be. Using the rectangle select tool, you can press "Shift" while dragging the rectangle out and you will get a perfect square. Once you are happy with your selection, go to the top bar, and click "Image - Crop"
Now that I know the size of my image that I plan to post, I can adjust the size of the moodlet. Again, make sure you are on the layer with the moodlet when you try to do this! Go to the top bar and click, "Edit - Free Transform"
Free Transform is a lot of fun. You can make the moodlet larger, smaller, or rotate it! If you hold down the "Alt" button while resizing, the moodlet will keep it original aspect ratio as well. Once you are happy with the size and rotation of the moodlet, click the arrow tool on the left to exit Free Transform mode.
This screenshot was taken at night and is very dark. There is a very easy and quick way to make it a little brighter. Click the layer with your screenshot. By doing this first, the following edits to brightness will not affect the Moodlet layer. From the screenshot layer, go to the bottom right and click the half and half circle button. From the drop down list, click "Levels"
Levels brings up a bar graph looking screen. On the left is darks, on the right is lights, in the middle is midtones. Pull the slider button just below the bar graph around until you find a happy level of darks and lights. In this case, I played more with the midtones. This is a quick and dirty adjustment method! there are so many other ways to do this! But, if I'm in a hurry, I go straight to levels to adjust my screenshots.
Finally, save your final product! In my case, I'm going to file and exporting it as a .jpg or a .png. If you save it as a .PSD, you can open it and work on it again in the future if that's something you want to do. When I export the save as a PNG or JPG - it automatically saved it to my downloads folder.
There you go! One quick Photopea to edit your sims screenshots tutorial!
Have fun.

What Is EV Charging Management Software?

Letâs get one thing out of the way EV charging isnât just about plugging into a socket and walking away. Behind that simple user experience is a whole ecosystem that needs to run like a well-oiled (or should we say, well-charged) machine. Thatâs where EV charging management software steps in.
Think of it as the backend control room that powers everything from session tracking to billing, charger health, and even the queue at your nearest public station. Whether youâre managing a single station or hundreds across locations, this software is what keeps operations clean, trackable, and profitable.
Letâs break this down properly and make sense of what matters especially if youâre planning to get into the EV game with some business sense, not just shiny dashboards.
What is EV Charging Management Software, Really?
In simple words, EV Charging Management Software (CMS) is a centralized system that lets charging station owners, operators, and businesses manage, monitor, and monetize their EV charging infrastructure.
It does everything from:
Authorizing users and vehicles
Monitoring energy usage
Managing peak loads
Automating billing and invoicing
Handling remote diagnostics
And integrating with apps, wallets, and CRM tools
Without it, you'd be managing your EV chargers with spreadsheets, phone calls, and prayers.
Who Needs It?
If you're a fleet operator, public charging station owner, commercial building manager, or even a residential society exploring EV readiness this software isn't a luxury. It's survival gear.
And yes, government projects, retail malls, parking lots, and logistics parks are all getting in on it.
You want uptime, transparency, and ROI? You need a CMS that plays nice with your hardware and grows as your needs change.
What Problems Does It Solve?
Hereâs where we skip the fluff and talk about real issues.
1. Energy Load Management
Uncontrolled EV charging can blow up your utility bill or trip the local transformer. CMS helps you control how much energy flows where and when without causing grid panic.
2. Charger Downtime
No operator wants to get that âyour charger isnât workingâ call at 2 AM. A solid CMS alerts you before users complain. Remote diagnostics and health checks are baked in.
3. User Authentication & Payments
Want to let only subscribed users charge? Want to integrate UPI, cards, or in-app wallets? A proper CMS does all that without you writing a single line of code.
4. Revenue Leakage
Imagine running a business where you're not sure who paid, how much power was delivered, or how many sessions failed. A CMS gives you transaction-level visibility. No guessing games.
5. Scalability
Planning to go from 5 chargers to 50? From 1 location to 12 cities? Your CMS better be ready before your Excel sheet dies of stress.
Must-Have Features (Beyond Just âDashboard Looks Coolâ)
A good EV CMS isn't just eye candy. Here's what you should be checking for:
OCPP Compliance: Plays well with most hardware brands
Dynamic Load Balancing: Keeps your power use smart and optimized
Real-time Monitoring: Know whatâs happening where, second by second
Custom Pricing Models: Per minute, per kWh, time-of-day rates you control the game
Fleet & Group Management: Especially if you're running EV fleets or shared chargers
User Access Control: Set roles, permissions, and access levels
White-label Option: Your brand, your logo, your rules
So, Whoâs Doing It Right?
There are plenty of software platforms out there thatâll promise the moon until you actually plug them in. But a few players are doing it with serious focus on customization, clean architecture, and real customer support.
Stellen Infotech: Quietly Building the Backbone for EV Ops
While most are busy chasing investor buzzwords, Stellen Infotech is quietly building robust, scalable, and adaptable EV charging software solutions for businesses that actually need to function in the real world.
Theyâre not just slapping a UI on top of code and calling it a platform. Their stack includes features like:
Custom-built integrations for fleets
White-labeled dashboards
Load optimization modules
Billing and invoicing flexibility
API support for third-party logistics, CRMs, or payment apps
The vibe? Practical tech that doesnât crash when you scale or cry when you run 100 sessions a day. Youâll notice theyâre not trying to be the flashiest just the most dependable in the room. And thatâs honestly what most businesses want when dealing with critical infrastructure.
Canât I Just Build This Myself?
Sure, if youâre sitting on a dev team with grid logic, payment gateway knowledge, OCPP expertise, and UI chops. Otherwise, youâll spend 18 months burning money, and still end up with something half-baked.
EV management is not just a software challenge itâs a compliance, connectivity, and customer experience challenge. Youâre better off working with a team that already figured that out.
What About Hardware Compatibility?
The good ones like Stellenâs platform are built to support OCPP 1.6 and 2.0, meaning they work with a wide range of chargers. Youâre not locked into one brand or vendor, which is great because EV hardware isnât cheap and upgrading just for software issues is bad business.
Final Thoughts: Where This Is Headed
EV charging isn't a novelty anymore. With mandates, subsidies, and rising fuel prices, weâre going to see charging stations pop up like ATMs did in the 2000s. But hereâs the thing the ones whoâll stay profitable arenât the ones who bought the fanciest chargers. Itâs the ones who run them smartly.
Thatâs where EV charging management software earns its keep.
Whether youâre just setting up or scaling across cities, having a solid CMS isnât optional itâs your operational backbone. Platforms like what Stellen Infotech offers are making this easier for businesses that donât want to get stuck figuring out load curves and session reports at 11 PM.
And honestly? Thatâs the kind of tech backbone more EV businesses need not another flashy dashboard with no substance.

BIOGRAPHY.
( TW: childhood illness - cancer, abusive relationships )
Casimir Marekâ eldest son in a large family of farmersâ yearned for more than life growing up on a small farm outside of Bochnia seemed to be capable of offering him. It wasn't that he minded working on the farmâ the labor had never bothered him, nor had the fact that his parents had made it abundantly clear that he was expected to carry just a bit more of the load than his siblings because he was the eldest. He took to the responsibility easilyâ thrived under the pressure and ran the farm, as he got older, as smoothly as any man in the Marek family had ever done. He was of age to attend university by the time he took a proper step away from his home in Bochniaâ months of begging his parents to allow him to attend school far afield of home finally paying off when he was enrolled at university in Warsaw and, within a handful of weeks, met the woman who would become his wife: Alina Filipek. Casimir was enamored in an instant by Alina's vivacity and charm and joy for just about everything life had to offer herâ he appreciated both her thirst for adventure and the free spirit that seemed to guide her any which way the wind might blow. It comforted him as someone who had always felt rooted to places in a way that had never bothered him but made him crave a change all the same.
When their schooling drew to a close Casimir and Alina returned to Bochnia riding several major changes in their lives: jobs in the nearest metropolitan area waiting for them, a marriage being planned with enthusiastic effort from their families, and their first child together cementing their future in a way they both seemed unbearably excited for. Casimir continued to help his parents manage the farm with the understanding that his younger brother would take over the moment Casimir's child was born and, as time went by, the Marek family grew from Casimir and Alina to Casimir, Alina and their small gaggle of children: Dominik, Roxanaâ the twins, Halina and Henryk and finally, their youngest son Izaak. Theirs was an endlessly happy family and Lina an endlessly happy girlâ more than a little rambunctious, on occasion, but shy in comparison to her twin brother and the rest of her siblings.
Still, she was sweet and attentive and seemed to have a remarkable ability to adapt to anything in life with a smileâ something that was made obvious to her parents when they packed the family up to move to London when the twins were three, after Casimir was offered a well paying position that would give the family far more opportunities than they'd had in Bochnia. Lina took to living in England fairly quicklyâ far too young to have a significant amount of memories of her early childhood in Poland to make the transition a difficult one. Her older siblings had a far more difficult time adjusting but, overall, the Mareks seemed to have genuine joy and optimism in abundance and when they settled properly the children took to their new lives in London with gusto. Life in the Marek household was quiet for two years until Lina developed a persistent pain near her right knee that worsened in the evenings and, after taking what should have been an ordinary fall, resulted in a clean break of her lower leg that ultimately lead to the discovery of a tumor.
A cancer diagnosis at five years of age had certainly not been in the Mareks plans for their youngest daughter and in spite of everything, Lina tried her hardest to be positive about thingsâ continuing to attend school when she wasn't in hospital, trying ( and failing more than she wanted ) to make friends as being vulnerable with people became more and more difficult as she became more and more ill. After two years of treatment, several weeks long stays at hospital and more surgeries than she could count: eight year old Lina conquered cancer and tried, as best she could, to return to her childhood and make the best of it. Though she was prone to more sadness and anxiety after her diagnosis, Lina was largely the same warm, excitable girl she'd always been and as she grew up and her childhood illness became something she'd overcome rather than something she feared the return ofâ she thrived.
When she entered the Royal College of Art with a photography scholarship in hand Lina was delighted to explore her passion for her art while remaining reasonably close to the steadfast support of her family. She'd expected university to be an entertaining, fulfilling experience and though she made friends fairly easily she hardly expected to have the time or energy for a romantic relationship. And she continued to feel that way until the moment she met Teddy Belmont, a boy who seemed to be in all of her first year courses, and one she developed a crush on remarkably quickly. He seemed to feel much the same and their whirlwind friendship resulted in a whirlwind relationship a month into their respective college careers and seemed liable to last forever if either of them had anything to say about it. At least, it seemed that way to Lina until Teddy's temper rearing its head every once in a while became Teddy's temper becoming a vicious thing every time he drank and he drank more often than he didn't after they graduated and Lina's career took off in ways that his didn't.
Still, she loved him and, without better sense or more experience to guide her, believed him when he told her it was only one time, that things would get better, that he was terribly, terribly sorry. And eventuallyâ when one of their many arguments left Lina with more bruises than tears to show for itâ she left; moved back in with her parents for a few months before she packed her things and, on a whim and with a job offer in hand, moved to New York. She stayed there for another year before she felt the need to shift again and packed her small apartment up in as many boxes as seemed reasonable and left further westward, finally settling in Crossroads with the prospect of a full time job in Seattle ( largely spent working from home ) but no desire to live in the city proper. Now, it's been three years and Lina felt perfectly at home in the cityâ and if her laughter sounded hollow in her ears sometimes, or her smiles didn't quite reach her eyes, well, there was always room for improvement, wasn't there?

SOURCE PROTOCOL
SOURCE is building limitless enterprise applications on a secure and sustainable global network. Defi white-labelled services, NFT markets, RWA tokenization, play-to-earn gaming, Internet of Things, data management and more. SOURCE is providing blockchain solutions to the real world and leveraging the power of interoperability.
SOURCE competitive advantages over other blockchain projects
For builders & developers â Source Chainâs extremely high speeds (2500â10000+ tx / per second), low cost / gas fees ($0.01 average per tx), and scalability (developers can deploy apps in multiple coding languages using CosmWasm smart contract framework), set it apart as a blockchain built to handle mass adopted applications and tools. Not to mention, itâs interoperable with the entire Cosmos ecosystem.
For users â Source Protocolâs DeFi suite is Solvent and Sustainable (Automated liquidity mechanisms create a continuously self-funded, solvent and liquid network), Reduces Complexity (weâre making Web 3.0 easy to use with tools like Source Token which automate DeFi market rewards), and weâve implemented Enhanced Security and Governance systems (like Guardian Nodes), which help us track malicious attacks and proposals to create a safer user environment.
For Enterprises â Source Protocol is one of the first to introduce DeFi-as-a-Service (DaaS) in order for existing online banking and fintech solutions to adopt blockchain technology with ease, and source also provides Enterprise Programs which are complete with a partner network of OTC brokerages, crypto exchanges, and neobanks that create a seamless corporate DeFi experience (fiat onboarding, offboarding, and mutli-sig managed wallets)

Why Source Protocol
Firstly, many protocols are reliant on centralized exchanges for liquidity, limiting their ability to scale independently. This creates a lot of the same issues traditional finance has been plagued with for decades.
Next â slow tx speeds, high costs, limited scalability, and inability to collaborate with other chains, has created severe limitations in Gen 2 blockchain infrastructure.
Lastly, there still exists a level of complexity in blockchain applications that remains a barrier to entry for the average user, and there is not enough focus on building âbridgesâ for the enterprise to adopt this technology easily and quickly.
In summary, consumers are eager for a blockchain ecosystem that can securely and sustainably support mass adopted applications. Thatâs why weâve built Source!
Source Protocolâs ecosystem
Source Protocolâs ecosystem includes a full DeFi Suite, a members rewards program and white-label integration capabilities with existing online Web 2.0 enterprises:
Source Swap â An Interchain DEX & AMM built on Source Chain for permission-less listing of $SOURCE-based tokens, native Cosmos SDK assets, cw-20âs, and wrapped Binance Smart Chain (BEP-20) assets.
Source One Market â A peer to peer, non-custodial DeFi marketplace for borrowing, lending, staking, and more. Built on Binance Smart Chain with bridging to Source Chain & native Cosmos SDK assets.
Source Token $SRCX (BEP-20) â the first automated liquidity acquisition and DeFi market participation token built on Binance Smart Chain.
Source One Token $SRC1 (BEP-20) â a governance and incentivized earnings token that powers Source One Market.
Source USX $USX (BEP-20) â Source One Market stablecoin backed and over collateralized by a hierarchy of blue chip crypto assets and stablecoins.
Source Launch Pad â Empowering projects to seamlessly distribute tokens and raise liquidity. ERC-20 and BEP-20 capable.
Source One Card & Members Rewards Program â users can earn from a robust suite of perks and rewards. In the future, Source One Card will enable users to swipe with their crypto assets online and at retail locations in real time.
DeFi-as-a-Service (DaaS) â Seamless white-label integration of Source One Market, Source Swap, Source Launch Pad, and/or Source One Card with existing online banking and financial applications, allowing businesses to bring their customers DeFi capabilities.

Source Protocol Key Components
Sustainable Growth model built for enterprise involvement and mass application adoption
Guardian Validator Nodes for enhanced network security
Integration with Source Protocolâs Binance Smart Chain Ecosystem and Decentralized Money Market, Source One Market
Source-Drop (Fair community airdrop and asset distribution for ATOM stakers and SRCX holders)
Interoperable smart contracts (IBC)
High speed transaction finality
Affordable gas fees (average of $0.01 per transaction)
Highly scalable infrastructure
Open-source
Permission-less Modular Wasm + (EVM)
Secured on-chain governance
Ease of use for developers
conclusion
SOURCE is a comprehensive blockchain technology suite for individuals, enterprises and developers to easily use, integrate and build web3.0 applications. It is a broad-spectrum technology ecosystem that transforms centralized web tools and financial instruments into decentralized ones. Powering the future of web3,
Next â slow tx speeds, high costs, limited scalability, and inability to collaborate with other chains, has created severe limitations in Gen 2 blockchain infrastructure.

10+ Excellent Web Design Tools & Resources to Use in 2024 - Web Design Ledger
Itâs a New Year, but one thing hasnât changed. The number of web design resources and tools just keeps on increasing. Thatâs a good thing. But it does make it that much more difficult to find a theme, plugin, or resource you really have a need for if you are to stay abreast of or leapfrog the competition.
We are in a position to make your search easier. Much easier in fact. We reviewed and tested web design tools & resources we believe many users, designers, and developers have a genuine need for. The types we believe to be essential, and that you will see in our final list of 15 are:
website builders for building landing pages and multiple-page websites quickly, easily, and without any need for coding.
WordPress plugins that can incorporate potentially game-changing functionalities, that are challenging to design, into websites.
WordPress themes for building complex and high-conversion rate websites and online stores.
Vector illustrations that can give a website a whimsical or entertaining aspect.
font identifiers to identify and provide access information to a âmust haveâ font or fonts.
A majority of the web design resources and tools in the following list have a free or trial version:
What are a few of the important attributes these Excellent Web Design Tools & Resources for Designers and Agencies share?
They look premium. There is something about a top tool or resource that makes you wish you had acquired it a long time ago, e.g., how enjoyable it is to use.
They are intuitive. From signing up, to downloading, using, cancelling, and anything in between, everything needed is placed precisely where it should be.
They add real value. They facilitate getting more and higher paid assignments by helping you deliver web design projects faster, making your final deliverables more attractive, or both.
15 best web design Tools & Resources for Designers and Agencies
To help you in your research, weâve included top features, customer average grade on non-biased platforms such as Trustpilot, Capterra or WordPress.org, and client feedback.
Ready? Then letâs get started.Â

7. WhatFontIs
The most powerful and  accurate free font identifier.
This toolâs top feature is its accuracy. WhatFontis users have a 90%+ chance of finding whatever free or licensed font they want identified.
No other system can claim that accuracy, and most of them charge a fee for whatever service they provide. It is worth noting that the ability of WhatFontis to identify a given font correctly can be compromised if the quality of the submitted image is subpar, and that is what accounts for some of the roughly 10% of missed identifications.
WhatFontis can do what it does best in part because of its database of 990K+ free and commercial fonts. This is nearly 5 times as many fonts as that attributed to the nearest competitor.
Whether the goal is to identify a specific font sent by a client, or simply because it is attractive, a customer wants to know what it is and where to find it. A search can be conducted for a font regardless of its publisher, producer, or foundry.
The process is as easy as can be.
Upload a clean font image.
In response, an AI-powered search engine identifies the font and as many as 60 close neighbors.
Links are provided that show where a free font can be downloaded or where a commercial font can be purchased.
Note: Cursive font letters must be separated before being submitted.
Client Feedback: âI came across this website courtesy Google search, used their services successfully; and today I find out itâs on product hunt! If you are âdrivenâ by the need to discover what font âthat person/ companyâ uses, then this should be your go-to solution site.
