@ygoc-week day 5 is swap, so let’s swap to talking about another OC for a bit!
YU-GI-OH! DM — ISABELLA “IZZ” ROOKE
Oh Izz. Izz baby. My girl :3c She's the main character of a DM alternate fic called Soul Release, named after a card that's very important to her. She survived a tragic pileup that killed her entire family. Unbeknownst to her, this event tied her to a freshly-born reincarnation of Anubis named Rin in this verse.
Tumblr media
This version of DM also includes a faction of worshippers of Apophis because of the existence of The Prophet of Apophis, a strong leader and manipulator… as cult leaders tend to be.
Tumblr media
Aigami/Diva also appears earlier in this story rather than being a post-canon aspect; we get a Kisara reincarnation named Sapha, a German TCG champion; and Battle City gets a top 16 on the blimp with these three OCs especially mixing things up via their being chosen by the Wickeds.
Tumblr media
I say “chosen,” but both Yami Bakura/Zorc and Rin/Anubis work together to create them to oppose the Egyptian gods. Yami B and Rin have a… working relationship, very much rooted in “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” They both strive for the pharaoh’s downfall. Rin chooses Avatar for herself while Yami B takes Wicked Dreadroot. Then Prophet blows up the museum, catching Yami B in the blast, and steals it for himself. Rin gives Eraser to Izz because she sees Izz as a puppet Rin can coerce to do her bidding anytime, including opposing the pharaoh.
Izz moves to Yugi and co’s school. She’s fairly distant from everyone in her life because of the tragedy, but they are kind to her and she is kind in turn. She wins local tournaments and tops regionals because, in order to hide from grief, she fixates on Duel Monsters deckbuilding and ratios and meta etc. This is enough to earn her a Duelist Kingdom invite. Overall, she’s an anxious mess who needs a hug and isn’t sure how to properly interact with other people anymore. She feels like a cataclysm waiting to happen again and again.
Now the elephant in the room! You see her with the Pyramid of Light. Rin approaches Izz after her first regional win. Izz is weak at the knees for beautiful women (and men—everyone is a bi disaster, remember?). Rin explains she hosted the tournament and forgot about a particular prize. She compliments Izz’s dueling and gifts her the Pyramid of Light, saying she’d like to get to know her better. Izz is flabbergasted and accepts the Pyramid, asking only what it is. Rin only describes it as valuable jewelry and recommends Izz keep it on her person.
The iridescent swirls in the pyramid’s sky blue are mesmerizing to Izz, and staring at it provides an indescribable comfort… and focal point to keep her grounded/stop her out of body experiences such that she does indeed wear it constantly
This has an unintended side effect
See, Izz wears a necklace (in the artwork, matches Dark Magician Girl’s pendant) that just so happens to contain the ancient and slumbering spirit of Mana. Being so close to the dark energy of the Pyramid of Light stirs her, and she becomes Izz’s ghost like companion similar to the pharaoh and Yugi. Mana is always trying to be a positive influence on Izz where Rin is like the devil on her shoulder. Izz often makes mistakes and trusts the wrong people, hurting her friendships with the gang and repairing them again.
Her using Wicked Dreadroot however… that one will certainly be difficult to come back from.
And as for pairings, I’m undecided and going so many directions! I would probably have to write it all out.
(but my heart says fellow orphan Seto Kaiba if Izz can ever look away from all the other gorgeous gorgeous guys and gals) (Rin can’t stop rizzing her up) (y’all just WAIT until she meets Ishizu)
I’m just a writer! Artist credit in first image and rest are picrew

Thankfully you all don’t really have to have read Yu-Gi-Oh R to get the idea. This is based on a line from the Spin off manga that, as the Wicked Avatar is the personification of the other’s wrath, therefore deep down Yugi secretly hates Atem (or Dark Yugi as he was in the Manga)
So TLDR (or if you haven’t read the manga) This is a “what if” where Yugi hates Atem, for events both canon (to the anime and manga) and to events here on tumblr.
Default Atem is my own Atem @sennenpharaoh but if approached by another Atem he will show the same hatred towards them.

YUGIOCTOBER: Day 9: Sacrifice
Nightmare after nightmare had plagued Yami since his attempt to ascend KaibaCorp Tower.
He did not blame himself for putting his trust in Gekko. Nor did he blame Gekko for losing.
He blamed himself for not having the strength to duel, to win, to protect Yugi the way he was supposed to.
The nightmares were varied. His subconscious had come up with several ways to suffer over it, after all.
In some, he saw Yugi, in his present form as the Avatar. In his nightmares, Yugi blamed him for everything. Blamed him for not protecting him, for not being strong enough. Sometimes, he would echo the things the Avatar made him think as well: that Yami had taken over his life and made everything about himself, that Yami’s presence was actively hurting Yugi, that Yugi never wanted to see Yami again.
The words Yugi had shouted at him in the waking world cut him the deepest. In moments of weakness, Yami worried that Yugi truly felt that way, that it wasn’t the Avatar’s influence.
And he wouldn’t blame Yugi for it in the slightest. This situation was all Yami’s fault.
In other nightmares, he saw it happen all over again. He saw Gekko lose the duel all over again, watched as Yugi was sacrificed to the Wicked Gods, taken by the Avatar as fuel to bring Pegasus back.
He’d wake up in tears, begging for forgiveness, begging for the chance to make things right.
On most nights, he was lucky. Yugi would be there, laying next to him. He’d hold Yami close, tell him it was okay.
He’d kiss Yami on the forehead and soothe him with whispers.
“I love you.”

Talked with Grey Mun about how Wicked Avatar works bc I'm surprised no one has really delved into this, especially with how spooked Atem was in the manga.
Wicked Avatar isn't evil, instead he is an embodiment of wrath. Since it reflected Atem, it created an image of Yugi.
So how I'm playing him won't be as an evil entity, instead a spiteful and hateful entity, mostly at Atem, but also as Yugi (should the other come to fight back). He is also doubly enraged because he was torn in half (not by Atem, but by Yako iirc)
The Wicked Gods were meant to keep the Egyptian Gods in check by reflecting them. What makes Wicked Avatar interesting is that no matter what or who approaches him he will always be 1 point stronger than them. Which means that the only one to defeat him is someone with infinite strength.

YUGIOCTOBER: Day 16: Luck
a wish
Every day, for Yugi, was a fight against the Wicked Avatar.
And when Yugi and Yami were first reunited, when Yami finally got Yugi to understand how he truly felt, Yugi was winning that fight.
But it was obvious what was happening now. Yami could see it.
Yugi was losing.
It all culminated into the night Yugi called Yami a curse. That Yugi started drowning under the Avatar’s influence. And at first, Yami believed it was how Yugi really felt. He let Yugi leave again because he thought it was what Yugi really wanted.
But he couldn’t…let things end like that.
If Yugi truly wanted to leave him, that was fine. He would accept that. But he had to know for sure this was what Yugi wanted. That this wasn't just what the Avatar wanted.
After Yami got all the sorrow out of his system, after he cried until he couldn't cry anymore, he set out to find him. And he did find him, on the roof at school.
"Avatar!"
Yugi's face turned to look towards Yami, but Yami well knew by now that Yugi wasn't in control at the moment. No, he was here to face the Wicked Avatar.
He had a plan.
He was feeling lucky.
"I challenge you to a game!"
The Avatar shot him a bitter smile. "And why should I accept? Because you asked? Not everything has to go the way you want it to, Nameless Pharaoh."
Yami flinched. It hurt, hearing Yugi's voice talk like this. But he had to stay strong.
"Because," Yami responded quietly, "if you win, I will leave you alone. You can do as you wish. I will not pursue you."
"And if you win?" the Avatar hummed.
"Then you will let Yugi make his own decision on where he wants to be."
Yami would chase Yugi down to the ends of the earth as many times as it took to bring him back to his side. And he would do it happily, every time. No one mattered more to him. But he had to know whether that was what Yugi wanted. He needed to know the truth.
"Sounds fair. If you can promise a fair game, I'll take you up on it."
The Avatar seemed confident in its chances to win. Yami smiled. Good. He'd break that confidence soon enough.
"It'll be fair. We'll play on equal footing. I promise you that, Avatar. And I promise you, Yugi, that I will win for you."
Because...
"I love you."

“Oh darling, no one cares about your pity act. Gasp for air all you like.”
This was not how he normally handled Yugi’s weekend trips. They were rare, but he knew they needed to happen, Yugi was still the King of Games, and Kaiba used that for his own company. Atemu sometimes would go with him, but the shop had a small tournament the same weekend and he had to stay. The tournament did well, Atemu felt some stress, but he was fine.
At least he thought he was...
At first it was the silence, then the laugh, then the power nap turned nightmare, waking up to find himself breathing hard. The breaths were deep, sharp, like a punch to the gut. Then the black and white creature from his dream stood in front of him, smirking at him, wishing for his death.
“Please...stop this...” He felt the tears prickle as he reached for his throat. “I can’t...do this...anymore. Leave me...alone...please...” He begged the vision to go away, pleaded! He wanted to be okay, he wanted to get better, he wanted his real Yugi. But all he saw was the image of the one who hated him, who wanted him gone...
‘You deserve to die.’
‘Long live the king!’
The voice in his head began to laugh and he felt the room around him grow closer to him, darker. This was his end wasn’t it? He cried, not wanting to die...no he wanted to live, but he couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t stay awake...

What are your headcannons for the sacred beasts/phantasms/phantom demons where did they come from? Has Yugi faced them before, has Ba-Khu-Ra encountered them before?
I count the trios as the Gods, the Wicked Gods and the Demons to keep the three separate in my head:
Gods: Ra, Osiris/Slifer, Obelisk
Wicked Gods: Avatar, Eraser, Dreadroot
Demons: Hamon, Uria, Raviel
I headcanon that the God Monsters are divine avatars of the Gods, not the Gods themselves. They are protectors provided to the people by the divine and those who want to use their power have to earn that right through trials. I jokingly call them the Trials of Courage, Power and Wisdom because:
Osiris: requires courage in your conviction to keep the God strong. If you play cards from your hand it gets weaker. It also takes courage to play cards, have a weaker god on the field and keep it alive by showing the opponent no fear of losing the god monster.
Obelisk: is all about power. He doesn't strictly have fluctuating attack points like the others. He comes to the field and starts punching. He also can use the strength of other monsters to become more powerful himself.
Ra: requires wisdom. The wisdom to know which cards to sacrifice for the right attack points and to know when to tribute your life points. Even phoenix requires wisdom. Bringing it back if you cant pay for the monster burn effect is pointless.
The Wicked Gods are avatars of divine destruction. The counterparts to the avatars. People did bad things and in the usual style of the Gods, they decided things needed to be done about it. The problem is, once they unleashed, they had to be controlled and they are a corrupting force, meaning unlike the Gods, they will take full control of their wielder. Bakura met them once and neither she or Zorc wanted to lose control of themselves by attempting to wield them. Plus they wouldn't work with Zorc anyway. They're divine destruction, not demonic. Yugi ran into the Avatar once, when invaders were destroying her home for being 'different' and she's lucky it was early into her cycles because she passed before it could fully corrupt her. Things would be VERY different if it had succeeded. She did manage to save her city though.
The Demons are creatures like Zorc. They come from the darker parts of the world and they had to be sealed away for the safety of the world. They had the audacity to imitate the divine protection avatars, both because they thought they would slip under the radar and because of ego. They are trapped in the Shadows right now, but can be summoned out using their cards. However, should that seal break... well... there had better be a backup. Like the one on Duel Academy...
