Cheater Cheater was a social media alternate universe fanfiction written by user mangobaII (mangoba two uppercase i's) on twitter.com published in late November 2021 primarily following the popular M/M RPF ship dreamnotfound comprised of popular Minecraft Youtubers Dream and GeorgeNotFound. Also featured were their friends and common collaborators Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, and musicians Wilbur Soot and Corpse among others. Its basic plot structure follows the whirlwind romance of college students Dream and George after Sapnap cheats on George with Dream, and the journey in proving their love to each other despite many internal and external obstacles. With its loveable cast of characters, romantic and chaotic subplots, and its biting satire of common portrayals of the people featured in similar fanfics, Cheater Cheater became an instant cult classic during the time it was updated. Contrary to popular belief, neither the au nor the twitter user are named "mangoball", yet both became commonly associated with this misspelling of the username, ultimately renaming the fanfiction. Despite speculation during its release, little is known about the writer or their place in the Dream Team or general Minecraft Youtuber fandom. As a crack fic, Cheater Cheater showcased extreme absurdism and exaggeration in how it represented its characters, plot, and use of social media, yet remained tasteful in its use of humor and self awareness of its own outrageousness. Due to this, and the lack of social media AUs in the Minecraft Youtuber fandom, many consider this to be the best dnf social media AU of all time. With its positive critical reception, a holiday special was published in December 2021 following the returning cast along with new additions in a whodunnit mystery format, titled Cheater Cheater Christmas Special: A Mangoballed Christmas!. Though an interpersonal schism now exists between the fan communities of content creators represented in the fanfiction, the "Mangoball" AU itself is still beloved and remembered by many fans of the fanfiction years later as an iconic fanwork and fondly revisted and referenced as a timeless classic following the wacky adventures and dramas of the fictional cast.

About the situation

ok so i hate addressing drama on here but this feels important.

first things first: i 100% stand with and believe Shubble. My heart is with her fully and I’m so glad she’s healing from what she went through with her abuser.

the reason im posting this, though, is because of the discourse surrounding Wilbur Soot and the possibility/evidence that he was the unnamed abuser Shubble was talking about. And as many of you know, i post a lot of crimeboy/sbi/wilbur-centric stuff. For now, because from what i can tell the situation is less than a week old, i’m going to give Wilbur time to respond. I won’t say that it’s him, i won’t say that it’s not him, but i’m prepared for the worst.

As for this blog, i’m probably going to handle this the same way i handled the Dream situation; i’m going to take a break from Wilbur centric aus for the moment until things become clearer, but the odds that i’ll stop writing for his character all together are slim. I don’t write with ccs in mind, ever, period. At this point i’m treating the dsmp cast like OCs with how far removed from their og characters they tend to be in my stories. In all honestly, i stopped watching half of these creators over a year ago, but i still like the idea of their dsmp characters. Hell, to be completely truthful i don’t think i’ve ever watched a Dream or Sapnap youtube video in full and those two are main characters in like half of my aus.

Also clarification just so this doesn’t get misconstrued: when i say “i’m going to handle this like the Dream situation,” i mean i’m gonna keep writing and not take down my previous stories, i’m just going to distance myself from the creator until more comes to light. I don’t want to compare Shubble’s experiences with abuse to fakes snapchat screenshots posted on twitter. Again, I stand with and believe Shubble’s story 100%, abuse is not something to be taken lightly and I wish her nothing but the best. It takes guts to speak out like she has and I commend her bravery.

This situation is a bit harder for me than the Dream one, though, because as I mentioned, i was never a huge cc!Dream fan, more a c!Dream fan. But I’ll be devastated if this is all true because I was a huge Wilbur Soot fan. Never really liked LoveJoy, just wasn’t my type of music, but SootHouse was quite literally the first YouTube channel i ever watched. Not to be parasocial, but Wilbur’s videos got me through some tough times. His YLYL videos were the only things that brought me joy when Techno’s death announcement was released on my birthday. I really looked up to him.

I don’t want to make this about me, the main thing in this situation is to support Shubble. No matter who the ex is, she deserves all of our unwavering support right now. I hope that if it wasn’t Wilbur that he somehow clears his name soon, but that if it was (im hoping it’s not but im not ignorant enough to blindly disregard all the evidence) that he regrets what he did and is getting help. I believe people can change and that everyone deserves a second chance, but im not going to know what to think of him until he gives a genuine, heartfelt apology for his actions, fully commits to bettering himself, and proves that he’ll never do something like this again.

omg my favorite question. so here is where you can find mangoball and here is where you can find the mangoball christmas special. basically Cheater Cheater (the real name of the fic but everyone calls it mangoball) is a satirical rpf social media au about minecraft youtubers posted by twitter user mangobaII. a lot of it is a criticism of the specific ways 2021 mcyttwt (and specifically dteamtwt) characterized mcyts. for example, wilbur soot was seen as the quirky weird guy which translates to his mangoball counterpart getting up to tons of illegal activities and being generally really strange. george was characterized as like. well you know how in yaoi the twink one is always reduced down to being dumb and childish?? yeah that’s what the fandom did to george and this is reflected in his mangoball character. also corpse husband is there. i don’t think he’s a specific criticism of anything. he’s just there. the only disclaimer i have to give is that some of the content creators written about in mangoball (dreamteam it’s dreamteam) fucking suck irl but i’m assuming you’re aware of that? either way it’s a fantastic read, i hope you enjoy it!!

It's a wild ride and i love it so much. It's not even rpf to me anymore. It's just mangoball. I would never reblog actual things about dream because i want him dead in real life.

our interviewee is @fagbearentertainment (formerly @/ugh-schaloob), who ran a philza minecraft imposter blog! below is a transcript of their account of early mcytblr and being an imposter blog.

The philza blog was a pretty fun experience. I would schedule my posts to UK timezones (im from the US) and answer asks during school to be more convincing. I also had a lil feud thing with a wilbur soot kinnie blog called therealwilbursoot or wilbursootofficial or something like that, they deactivated a while ago tho. We basically just told our followers to send really cursed asks to each other, I sent my followers with anteater images and they sent their followers with minion memes. It was a good time. We both admitted to being kinnie blogs pretty fast tho, after ~a month or two we both quit posting for the most part. Rip Philpire o7

I also remember something about the Wilbur blog (or maybe it was a different wilbur blog? Can’t remember now) marrying Nick Wild from Zootopia, they invited me to the wedding via ask lol

For the he/they tubbo discourse I really only saw people on my dash saying it was stupid bc I didn’t use Twitter at the time. I do remember lots of instances of people being excited when a cc used they/them for tubbo and reposting the clips constantly. All the support for cis people using multiple pronouns led to me experimenting with neos and questioning my gender which is pretty cool thanks he/they tubbo discourse

I was also fairly active in the mcytblr high school au stuff, didn’t use the discord much bc of social anxiety but I do have a few posts of my mcytblr high school sonas on my main blog if you wanna see those. I was called the schools local Quackity kinnie bc of a quiz we all did and it became my mcytblr sonas whole personality for a while XD

i want an au where sbi are keepers of the seasons, but it's a modern au

they're just out there living their lives, and one day are all brought to a sort of celestial plane where a women is waiting for them.

the women, 'Death' as she introduces herself, says she handpicked them to monitor the earth, as she finds herself slightly out of touch.

they don't believe it's real, at first, until when they all come back to, a symbol marks their wrist.

Tommy Innes wakes up alone in his small apartment on a sunday evening. He's a bit disorientated from his dream and moves to rub the bridge of his nose, when he notices something, just below his wrist.

Wilbur Soot is rudely awoken by the blaring sound of a telephone. he'd fallen asleep at work, in his office.

he picks up the call, its some guy asking about management in a completely different department than his own, so he kindly forwards the call. and once it's over he groanshe sighs and goes to put down the phone, when the sight of a leafless tree on his wrist.

he thinks of the weird dream he had, not even minutes prior, and a sort of dread starts clouding his thoughts. doubt telling him it's not real as he rushes to the bathroom to scrub his arm

techno blade awakes in the chair of his study, a half read book in hand.

he groans and stretches in his chair, he catches sight of his wrist and a oak tree with half dead leaves is hiding the veins on his wrist.

something tells him it has to do with his dream, and he smiles.

a small light of hope seeps though the window of his study, right passed the curtains, and techno lets himself realise that he's about to be apart of something huge.

I decided to make fake tweets from one of the many crackfic ideas I had

Bedrock bros AU where Technoblade is a pirate who finds Tommy, a boy who has been cursed to stay a merman for the rest of his life.

Techno is a pirate with no interest in materialistic things such as gold or jewels. The joy of being a pirate comes from the tranquility he feels as he travels the seven seas with his friends— though others would call them a crew. It comes from the surge of adrenaline that rushes through his veins whenever an enemy ship tries to attack theirs (because if they can take down the great “Technoblade,” they’d be recognized as the strongest pirates in all the seas) though of course, Techno and his crew always win whatever fight they’re involuntarily thrown in.

The joy, however, does not come from the constant annoyance of Techno’s first mate, Wilbur, who’s always trying to get Techno to focus on the money and fame instead of the adventure, though it’s all in good fun as he knows his first mate would never cross a certain line.

One day, Techno finds a scroll in a crate that a shopkeeper gave him. He decided to stop by an island known for its good deals for travelers to stock up on some essentials; food, water, and some parchment (Wilbur uses up most of it to send letters to Sally, his lover.) Yet when he checks the crate he was given, he fins a rolled scroll, clearly been written on with ink and tied neatly with a ribbon. Techno knows this wasn’t anything he paid for, but when he looks up to give the scroll back, the shopkeeper is gone— he even checks the back but it just seems as if they’d disappeared.

Techno shrugs and keeps it, if it was important then they wouldn’t have put it there. Wilbur finds it after Techno gets back, the captain not bothering— or perhaps forgetting— to check what was on it at all. It turns out to be a treasure map, a dotted line stretches all over the paper from the island they stopped at to a big, red “X” in the ocean.

After a lot of non-stop begging from his first mate, Techno eventually lets up. He allows Wilbur to steer the ship to wherever the map takes them, wanting nothing to do with the, what he originally thought was, useless trip. If Wilbur wanted adventure, Techno could’ve given him one without a prize of money at the end. But alas, Techno decides to let Wilbur have his fun in the mean time.

When they get to their destination after a long and treacherous journey, they find a cave in the side of a small island, the water almost completely submerging it. The two go in together, leaving the rest of the crew on the ship with the promise of splitting all of it between them (Techno persisting that he doesn’t want any of the profit.) Yet what they find in the cave isn’t a chest overflowing with riches, but instead a merman. The flaming reds and oranges of his long tail compliments the golden, wet hair on top of his head. The red fins on the side of tail are transparent, allowing them to see bright and vividly blue water through them.

At first, everyone was stunned, none saying a word as the three of them stood with their mouths wide open. Techno and Wilbur, in all of their years of traversing the wide and open seas, have never in their lives met a real life mermaid— or rather a merman. Many pirates seem to think they don’t exist and that the ones who do preach about their true existence are making it up for fame and attention. The merman, on the other hand, has not seen a single soul in years, even the aquatic life of the ocean surrounding his average sized cave avoid it like the plague. Safe to say, he was pretty surprised when they two men came in on a small boat that contrasts their pirate outfits.

Even though he was equally as stunned, the merman was the one who spoke first.

“Who the hell are you?”

Techno thinks that he’s found a treasure worth looking for.

After a small argument— one that Techno personally found amusing, while as Wilbur’s face turned the slightest bit red from annoyance (Techno joked that Wilbur now knows how he feels)— the two pirates eventually get to learn the merman’s name: Tommy. Techno thinks it fits him quite well.

In exchange for his name, the two pirates also introduce themselves and explain how they got there in the first place, Wilbur reluctantly pulling out the map and showing it. Tommy tells them he has no idea who gave them that map and why. He explains that no one has been around here in years, which is quite unusual since this island and, by extension, cave aren’t exactly hidden.

Tommy also tells them that he himself hasn’t left this cave in years, admitting that the only reason he hasn’t stepped foot— or rather fin— outside of it is because of a curse that was cast upon him when he was a younger boy. This, in turn, sparks the question of how old he is now, to which Tommy hesitantly mumbles “…sixteen,” while looking away, embarrassed by his young age.

Neither of the men try to hide their laughter and it’s apparent. Tommy yells something about them being dicks and whatnot before Techno cuts him off.

“You call yourself a merman? You aren’t even a man,” he laughs.

“We might as well call you a guppy,” Wilbur follows up, their teasing making Tommy’s face turn redder. Whether it’s from embarrassment or anger, they don’t quite know.

In the short time that the three of them have talked, Tommy had quickly grown onto both of the pirates. To Wilbur’s surprise, Techno promises the merman that he’ll find a way to break the curse and give Tommy his legs back— on one condition. Once Tommy is back as a human, he’ll become part of Techno’s crew. As much as Techno had pissed him off, Tommy still takes the deal. Of course, it’s only so he can get his legs back and leave this wretched cave, no other reason at all.

It’s not as if Tommy used to hear stories about the one and only “Technoblade,” when he was younger, and it’s definitely not because he would wish he could become as cool as the world renowned pirate when he grows up.

Techno and Wilbur start their trek to where a powerful sorcerer name Philza resides. It’s rumored that he can do anything and everything for a certain price. That price is something that Techno does not know yet, but he’s not sure it matters.

Techno knows he would pay a fortune to break the curse on Tommy, for the only gold he’s ever wanted sat in curls atop the boys head, and the only gems he’s ever seen shine so bright are Tommy’s diamond blue eyes. Techno knows that both him and Wilbur would go through hell and back to have this boy they just met on their crew.

Besides, he promised Tommy that he’ll get the kid his legs back, and Technoblade does not break his promises.
