I think Wilczyca's Magija cover (by Filip Zwierzchowski) is the best black metal album cover of this year, so far. That sense of occultism that it has in itself; That white horse, which reminds me of the line from Ozzy Osbourne's Mr. Crowley that reads: "Won't you ride my white horse?"
Hi I was wondering where did you find those werewolf screenshots for the wilczyca 1983 movie? Were they in the movie?
I honestly haven't seen the movie yet, but I found them on the polish version of Google Images. It could be from powrót wilczycy (1990) AKA Return of The Wolf which is the sequel. For some reason, I guess it was credited as the latter.
Halloween Movie Night 24: Wilczyca (The Wolf) | Directed by Marek Piestrak (1983)
In a small village in Poland, towards the end of the 19th century, a woman on her deathbed curses her husband, suggesting that she will return from the grave and punish him for how he treated her in life. Not long after her death, the village is haunted by the specter of a wolf... whose familiar properties have the woman’s husband thinking about her and her dying curse.
The lengths some people will to go for revenge. Dying while clutching a wolf’s paw, angry and discontented wife Maryna returns to the plane of the living as a terrible she-wolf, possessing the body of local countess Julia. A tale of duplicity and revenge unfolds, Kacper relentlessly pursuing his quarry even as she dallies with an Austrian officer. It’s this political thread which lingers in the corners of the film, an air of mistrust and dread lingering over the Polish elite as they fear capture from the invading forces and ponder flight into Hungary or elsewhere. Julia’s possession is abominable because she is a werewolf, but also because she is literally sleeping with the enemy.
In its more horrific sequences, Wilczyca employs an intense, moody atmosphere. Fog-swathed fields make a nighttime journey unnerving, shapes difficult to perceive in the mist. Kacper is haunted by visions of the deceased Maryna, her face decaying as it leers out of the darkness. But one thing is a little less dreadful: werewolves apparently leave adorable little ink kitty pawprints behind when indoors.
Polish words ending in -yca are all so beautiful. Zorzyca, papieżyca, różyca, wieżyca, wilczyca, wampirzyca, wieszczyca. Delightful. Majestic. Roguish.
