A lot of my mogai terms/flags flop WHICH IS FINE bcuz I genuinely just make them for myself and I don't particularly care abt numbers. But sometimes I rlly thjnk they r such cool terms and it's kinda sad when 1. Ppl dont agree 2. The ppl who would fuck w the terms don't see it bcuz it gets lost or etc. Maybe I think the terms r so cool bcuz they are made for my exact identity and are wholly self indulgent, though, LOLZ. But on my old blog, my flags often got 100+ notes which was cool. Idk if maybe the mogai community is not as active as it was 2022-2023 or smthing, or if its the algorithm, or not many ppl identify w my terms. It's less like, caring abt numbers/attention, and more like "damn I thought this term was rlly cool and I'd have liked more ppl to see it and fuck with it!!" Yknow . I don't rlly care though, just a little thought :P

on the one hand, the terribly-seeded brackets in that AO3 ship tournament are the direct result of a Known Hard Problem that dates back decades in fandom

on the other hand, sanity checking a few dozen extremely well-known pairings for obvious off-AO3 clout is not nearly as difficult as the emblematic question of "what qualifies as a small fandom for Yuletide?"

on a secret third hand, the results are very funny

in conclusion, somebody should complete the circle and somehow use AO3's exchange matching algorithm to seed tournament brackets. badly.

I 100% get tumblrs need to grow their userbase to continue. Fully support that

But literally @staff any changes to the dashboard or adding an algorithm HAS to be able to be opt out or you will completely kill the use of this site by longtime users who have been VERY vocal about not wanting an algorithm

Tumblr's advantage over other sites is that you can control what content you see and taking that away from your users is downright stupid

I get new users arent use to that and can understand it benefiting them to have an algorithm to help get the hang of the site but again one should be able to opt out of it

That way long time users can continue to use Tumblr the way they enjoy it and if new users get the hang of things and want to turn off the algorithm they can

the thing that really grinds my gears about the cheesy tiktok censorshop of "sewer slide" "real life game over" etc is that. like. we already have euphemisms for suicide and death. 'took his own life.' 'lost their battle with mental illness'. 'passed away.' even assuming the censorship/shadowban/algorithm hiding shit they think is happening really is happening, there's ways to get around it that don't make you sound like a kindergartener
