My show opened at The Henry Fox Talbot Museum in the UK last week. “Meteorite hits Savissivik” oil on board Henry Fox Talbot has inspired me greatly. His discoveries in chemistry / photography and specifically his salted paper and calotype processes are astounding. He is legendary within the history of photography and his experiments act as precursors to photographic inventions of the later 19th and 20th centuries. 'Crystalline: When Plants Remember', will be on view @foxtalbotmuseum until 9 December. #corneliaparker Taylor Galleries Thanks to GB18, Culture Ireland Roger Watson Henry Fox-Talbot. #siobhánmcdonald #foxtalbotmuseum #williamhenryfoxtalbot @lacocknt https://www.instagram.com/p/BqckVRYn_MT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1td1ytz32ovlw

February 10th 1800, birth of English photographic pioneer and polymath William Henry Fox Talbot. Talbot invented the salted paper and calotype processes, as well as photomechanical reproduction which led to the established photographic processes of the later 19th and 20th centuries. He also pursued photography as an artistic medium, publishing between 1844 to 1846 ‘The Pencil of Nature’ (1844–46), the first photographically illustrated book. Along with photography Talbot also made important discoveries in the fields of integral calculus, optics, chemistry, electricity, etymology and ancient history. #historicalstories #historicalstory #historylesson #historyfacts #steampunkstyle #steampunkdesign #steampunktendencies #thisweekinhistory #vintageaesthetic #historyofphotography #victorianphotography #photographyhistory #victoriangothic #victoriangothicstyle #vintagephotograph #williamhenryfoxtalbot #alternativephotographicprocesses #alternativephotographicprocesses ##victorianinventions #victorianhistory #victoriangothicrevival #victorianscience #newinventions #vintagephotoshoot #historylovers #historygeek #19thcenturyhistory #19thcenturyphotography #19thcenturyphotos https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPrglEnVlX/?igshid=mx9j162p7py9

#talbot #williamhenryfoxtalbot #henryfoxtalbot #foxtalbot #firstnegative #historyofthenegative #historyofthephotography #photographyhistory #photographyhistoryknowledge #photohistory #england #historiadelafotografía #historiafotografia #laprimerafotografia #londres #sociedadsecretadefotografia #royalinstitution #historiamundial #fotografíahistórica #historicphotography #1839 #1835 (at London, Unιted Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE3UkJZDwTa/?igshid=pznww4tb7emz

If you're in London, you can experience an exhibition like never before, on view at @somersethouse . "Thresholds," a brand new artwork by YBA @matcollishawstudio, allows you to experience an entire exhibition of photography in virtual reality. And not just any exhibition, but one of the earliest photographic exhibitions in history from 1839. What appears as a completely white room to the naked eye is transformed into the candlelit hall of King Edward's School in Birmingham, where scientist William Henry Fox Talbot first presented his photographic experiments to the public. _______________ #threshholds #regram #williamhenryfoxtalbot #photography #virtualreality

Today we make an exception to the Not In Newhall rule to celebrate the 221st birthday of William Henry Fox Talbot, English chemist, linguist, mathematician, archaeologist, and pioneer photographer, who was born on February 11, 1800. Talbot invented the photogenic drawing and the calotype and salted paper print processes, produced the first publication that contained photographs, and created some of the most beautiful masterpieces of early photography. His later work on photomechanical printing led to the development of the photogravure. Happy Birthday, Henry. .

Unearthed ‘Dulwich Picture Gallery’s' first major photography exhibition when it re-opens this November brings together over 100 works by 25 leading international photographers. ‘Unearthed: Photography's Roots’ reveals the fascinating technical processes behind these images - showcasing innovations in photography by key figures William Henry Fox Talbot and Imogen Cunningham. The exhibition also pays homage to several overlooked photographers like Japanese artist Kazumasa Ogawa and English gardener Charles Jones. Jones’ whose striking modernist photographs of plants remained unknown until 20 years after his death when they were discovered in a trunk at Bermondsey Market in 1981. The exhibition opens with some of the first known Victorian images by Talbot and his experiments with paper negatives. Also featured are works by the first female photographer Anna Atkins and 3D stereoscopic photographs by the Lumiere Brothers – displayed publicly for the first time. Focusing on botany and science throughout, themes range from typology and form to experiments with colour and modernism. The show culminates with more recent advancements in photography, from the glamour and eroticism of artists Robert Mapplethorpe and Nobuyoshi Araki, to experimentations with still life compositions. Bringing ’Unearthed’ right up to date is a contemporary intervention from renowned video artist Ori Gersht. ‘Unearthed: Photography's Roots’, ’Dulwich Picture Gallery’, November 21, 2020 - May 9, 2021. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #botany #science #flora #fauna #exhibition #experiments #williamhenryfoxtalbot #imogencunningham #kazumasaogawa #origersht #dulwichpicturegallery #unearthedphotographysroots (at Dulwich Picture Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGABU1xFg_o/?igshid=1qynj48s6gt5j
