PJO Headcanon

I imagine Nico didn't really play with a lot of toys besides the mythomagic cards as a kid. So when Will decides to give him a stuffed toy/animal or a little plush keychain for his bday (probably as a joke and has a different gift that he thought Nico would actually like) Nico adored it. So now Will likes to randomly gift him little trinkets that he finds.

Headcanon that one day Nico walks into Cabin 7 and sees a pride flag on Will's wall but he doesn't know that it's a pride flag so he asks Will what country it's for and Will plays along and is like oh it's for the gay country. And Nico's eyes light up and he's like, "THERE'S A GAY COUNTRY??" and then he runs off to tell Hazel and is all like, "HAZ THERE'S LITERALLY A GAY COUNTRYYY". And Jason and Will are just watching Nico run around telling random people about it and Jason's like, "I think I'm gonna tell him" and Will is like, "DON'T YOU DARE RUIN THIS FOR HIM YOU MONSTERR".

headcanon that one day, leo valdez got very bored, which prompted him to teach the ever-oblivious nico di angelo some very inappropriate tik tok dances. one day will and nico were hanging out in the Hades cabin when, for no apparent reason, nico stood up. “wanna see a dance leo taught me? he said you would like it.”. will was confused, so he said yes out of pure curiosity. nico begin the routine, which involved some moves he definitely did not want to do in front of his fathers shrine. will, bright red in the face, asked, “where did you say you learned that?!”, between voice cracks. “um, leo? what did i mess it up or something?” nico questioned. will stood up from where he was sitting and gave nico a quick kiss on the forehead adding “no sunshine i’m sure you did exactly what he said to! i’m just gonna go speak with valdez. be right back” before slipping on his flip flops and dashing out of cabin, leaving a confused nico behind. he just shrugged, closed his door, and started practicing his dance again.

I want Nico adopted by the entire Apollo Cabin to the point he really could be in the cabin at any point with or without Will there. Like he still sleeps in the Hades cabin but he more or less lives in the Apollo cabin.

Like he’s just chilling in there playing cards with Austin or chatting with Kayla or literally just reading a book with no one else there.

Headcanon

So I have a headcanon that Nico's a really good gymnast and usually does gymnastics to relieve stress. So one day he and Will get into an argument and he storms away, and after a while Will goes to apologize and he finds Nico doing back hand springs behind his cabin. Later: Nico, threatening a camper: You do not want to get me mad. Will, from behind him: Yeah, when he's mad he really... flips out. Nico: *karate kicks Will*

Some new kid at camp is relentlessly flirting with Will. Will isn’t playing along, of coarse, but Nico is prone to jealousy even when there’s not any actual flirting.

One day Nico just snaps. The kid is flirting with Will in front of him and Nico drops the temperature. The earth trembles and splinters like thin ice. Shadows pull from all directions and converge on Nico. All the grass and plants within 10 feet of Nico wither and die. Nico growls quietly from somewhere deep in his chest. In a tone too low and deep for the small frame it came from he whispers “back off.”

The poor kid, and most anyone who witnessed this, quickly clear the area.

Meanwhile Will is just ✨💕🥰✨

When Nico and Will get engaged they go back to camp half blood to share the news. As they’re chatting and catching up a glowing sun appears over Nico’s head- the sign of Apollo. Everyone falters in confusion, including Chiron. Nonetheless he starts the whole “hail the son of Apollo” spiel when the symbol changes to a darker one, the sign of Hades. Chiron stops and starts again- “Hail the son of-“ He doesn’t get time to finish. The sign of Apollo flashes again. Sign of Hades. Sign of Apollo. Sign of Hades. Everyone is still in an awkward kneeling position except Will. Nico at this point has his head bowed in exasperation and his hand over his eyes. Will is stifling a laugh. The signs continue flipping in rapid succession. The sign of Apollo flashes one last time. There’s a pause.

The sign of Hades appears over Will’s head.

I know this has been said but I kinda live for the idea of Nico being an old school romantic. He’s a little too nervous and awkward for most kinds of public affection but he slips carefully folded, handwritten love letters into Wills bag or leaves them on Wills pillow or just anywhere he knows Will is going to find it. He leaves little gifts for Will too, often times it’s flowers or candy or just something pretty that reminded him of Will. He’ll offer Will his jacket at the slightest mention of being cold (even though the jacket is a little small of Will.) He opens doors and pulls out chairs and maybe if he’s feeling particularly bold he’ll hold Wills hand under the table.

Will sometimes wishes his boyfriend was a little more comfortable with holding hands or wrapping an arm around the others shoulders but every time he gets a note or pulls Nicos jacket on or Nico holds the door open his heart just melts a little bit.

A few thoughts on the whole “Will doesn’t like Percy” thing

I actually agree with that, but not because of Nicos former crush. I don’t think Will is petty enough to dislike Percy entirely based on Nicos previous feelings toward him. But I do think Will disliking Percy is reasonable for his character (not to mention a kind of interesting diversion from Percy being automatically accepted and well liked in the books)

1. Always the hero

Will lost Micheal and Lee during battles that, while he probably doesn’t blame Percy for causing, Percy tends to get all the credit for. Percy gets to be the hero and be offered immortality, while Wills brothers barely get a funeral, along with everyone else that went down fighting in those battles. This includes campers Will probably tried to save. As a healer Will has to watch his friends and even siblings die, some after he failed to save them, and then watch everyone glorify Percy. Percy didn’t ask to be glorified or to be the center of attention, but I could still see if grating on Will in particular

2. Micheal Yew

In the case of Micheal Yew specifically, he dies because Percy destroyed the bridge he was on. Again, Will probably knows it was unavoidable, but that kind of thing isn’t easily forgiven, especially since Will is thrown into being head counselor after that with no adjustment period.

3. Nico

I think over time Will has probably learned at least a little about how Percy has treated Nico over the years (admitting he didn’t think Nico could be accepted which drove Nico away from camp, literally holding him up by his neck and then leaving him at the river Styx after Nicos betrayal, making Nico help him over and over, etc.) I don’t even think Nico is mad about those things or realizes some of them were bad/manipulative, but I could see that even making Will more angry given that Will knows how ostracized and alone Nico felt back then.

So I think it’s be interesting to see Will and Nico react to them both being kind of right and kind of wrong regarding Nicos place in camp.

Will has had a crush on Nico for years (at least in my head) and felt disappointed each time Nico disappeared before Will could get a chance to get close to him. Will is a year rounder that seems to be well liked or at least respected as a healer by everyone at camp. His whole world for the most part is camp half blood. He can’t imagine anyone at camp shunning Nico simply for being the son of Hades. Nico saying he won’t be accepted seems ridiculous to Will.

Nico has always felt out of place and alone. He’s been excluded, mistrusted, and abandoned so much that it’s become natural to assume rejection. It’s a defense mechanism at this point, he assumes the worst so he won’t be hurt when it happens again. Will acting like it’s all in Nico’s head seems naive to Nico.

Once Nico is settled in at camp, they’re both shocked to realize they’re both a little wrong.

Some people do mistrust Nico as the son of Hades. For the first time Will notices the wary glances and quiet whispers around Nico. He notices campers get up and hurry away when Nico sits near them. He notices some refuse to be near him as if he’s some sort of biohazard. He’s shocked to find maybe camp isn’t as welcoming as he thought.

Nico is shocked to find that, yes, some campers are afraid of him and still treat him coldly, but many don’t. Most don’t. He bonds with Lou Ellen & Cecil along with Will. He plays chess and discusses books with some Athena kids. He listens to techno pop with some of the Aphrodite and Iris kids. Clovis is a surprisingly good conversationalist when he’s awake. The Apollo cabin adopts him wholesale. Despite some continuing sideways glances, Nico has friends. A support system. People who seem happy to see him. He’s shocked to learn that maybe his assumption of abandonment was a self fulfilling prophecy.

Neither will admit this to the other, but they both kinda know.
