Living in Karachi The humidity suffocates me but the sea breezes ease it all. High rise buildings are all that can be seen for miles but historical gems are tucked away in little alleyways, stranded away. Every person knows a different secret of the city, no one is blessed with it all. The art student living across the street knows of the little art store in between the labyrinth of clothing shops and the bibliophile who somehow manages to buy books every week can trace their steps to the book bazaar which is set up every week in Saddar, in between the stalls of spices.  We have communities within communities, and secretly wish Karachi got better. Yet, I feel the safest here. Weekends starting with Alamgir’s parathas and chai, ending with Hyderi’s Peshawari Ice cream. Choosing the Buns Kabab of Burns Road over expensive restaurants. Rummaging out your grandparents archives, somehow feeling nostalgic for your ancestral home without ever stepping foot there.  Attending exhibits at Frere Hall, discovering new places, going to the beach for a view of the sun rise.  Finding people that know so much more about Karachi.  Karachi needs no introduction yet it requires you find the part you resonate with, in a way the city will always fulfill you.

Clawing out of the hectic life exhausted and tired; I dream of a simple life one which doesn't en-cash on sleepless nights;

Surrounded with the things I love and perhaps a person as well, sharing loving anecdotes under the gleaming sun; 

Growing roses, jasmines and tulips, filling the land with flora and greenery, and when things go out of order at unfortunate times, I can sleep under them, drowning away the pain; 

Hoping to adopt and raise fifteen cats with love, perhaps I can grow as a person between these four walls of my own; 

In the cottage of brick, I lay surrounded with what I love; 

At liberty to do what I want, Baking bread and cinnamon rolls topped with caramel drizzle;

Feeding the varieties of birds that visit, and watering the baby succulents that sprout up;

It is clear what my direction in life is; 

What I long for is solace, books, flora, members of the feline family and a cottage to call my own, sharing fruits and bread;

I don't care for the piece of the moon, its only love when my heart skips a beat when they perhaps share a piece of their orange with me, or the chocolatey bit of an ending ice-cream cone; 

 One can only dream, living in a cottage can perhaps grant me eternal peace ~Ramlah

TW: Might be triggering to some

During the summer of 2020, I had the most turbulent times of my life. My father passed away on the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr and soon after, my mother swept me away from my ancestral home, which unfortunately also housed my mentally abusive family. It was hard moving into a new home, with an overworked single mother and only the clothes on my back. All my books, art and belongings are stored in the dusty cupboards of my old home. 

I am happy with where I am now. I don’t long to take revenge. Maybe I want closure. Maybe I want all those who hurt my family to suffer and melt away in regret. I don’t want to witness their suffering, rather I want my face to haunt their dreams. All those nights that I spent crying, I want them to suffer through them. I want their success to be hollow. 

May my happiness be their downfall.

ACCORDING to a survey, 75 per cent of Pakistanis have never read books beyond academic syllabus. Only nine per cent are avid readers. While the report doesn’t state what activities the others are engaged in, it is not too difficult to guess that most are simply wasting their time on social media or on their cellphones. 

See, not many things scare me, but this. This absolutely mortifies me. It’s absolutely saddening to read this.

usually, yes, but sometimes this wonderful site doesn't give me notifs about my mentions until weeks later by which point it's weird to reply (if i havent replied to your tag that's why)

i don't particularly prefer any of this, but i have made one (1) video edit of jo and laurie to champagne problems so i'm going to go with make video edits

it is majorly chipped but yes. i don't know the name of this colour it's like my skin colour but slightly redder 😭😭

4. What would your ammortentia smell like? (For those who don’t know Harry Potter, ammortentia is a love potion that smells different to each person based on what attracts them. Basically what are your favorite smells?)

i'm very basic but either petrol, vanilla or petrichor

5. Would you prefer to live in an extremely hot or cold climate?

cold, bc i can wear sweaters and cuddle in blankets, you can't do anything in the heat

i don't but i really should

i mean, as of right now it’s a copy of the song of achilles which i’m obsessed with, but like usually? i don’t know? i hate when people ask me what i want like i have no idea surprise me. i think the best personal gift is when you don’t know you want it until you get it and youre like oh. my heart.

30. what reminds you of home (doesn’t have to mean house… just things that remind you of the feeling of home)?

the traffic right outside my apartment, my parents making terrible jokes that only the three of us get and watching terrible movies
