disciplining your mind includes
-stop over consuming and start creating your own rules
-flipping negative thoughts and preventing them
-not reacting to the 3D and old story
-revising past negative experiences
-focusing only on the positives and saturating your mind
-removing all forms of doubt and working on your self concept
-persisting through everything and ignoring circumstances

With apologies to the couple of asks currently in the inbox, I'm going to be spending the rest of today crocheting (pray for me), a task which requires regularly scheduled breaks. If you'd like to send me an ask about sorcery, witchcraft, spirit work, psychism, or divination, I would appreciate the chance to distract myself from my looming crochet deadline.

🔥 elemental magic
The concept of a "fifth element" that is above or more powerful than the Greek/Western four of air-earth-fire-water is dumb to me. It always has been. It's like someone making a character for a story who is so powerful that the story itself bends around them.
No one is consistent about what this super-powerful fifth element even is. I've seen all of the following:
Spirit
Light
Darkness
Magic
Quintessance
Aether
Also, the four Greek/Western elements? They're equals! I'm sick of people acting like one is somehow more important overall to the whole of reality or the entire world than the other three.
Some people need to go back to Wikipedia and read about these things more before they make definitive statements about reality.

I just feel like you should know that my brain has decided for whatever reason on thinking of you as "chicken vexer." I have tried to separate your name from your url in my head, but no matter what I do, I seem to instinctively refer to you as such.
At this point, I've sort of just given up and surrendered to thinking of you as a vexer of chickens.

what's a horror movie trope that you love so much with all your heart but you almost never see?
I love a really good well-done twist ending that has little tiny hints preceding it in the movie that can only really be noticed on a second viewing. It's something I don't see often enough and it just sends me every time I see it.
Lake Mungo is the best example I've ever seen of this. It's a movie you really have to pay attention to, and once you've watched it, you need...N E E D...to go back and watch it again.
The Visit is another really good one. It's M. Night Shyamalan, so you fully expect a twist ending, but when it hits, it hits like the ending of The Sixth Sense, which is another great example. You might suspect it, but you do not see it coming on the first watch.
So yeah. I love a twist ending that socks you in the gut and makes you want to immediately watch the movie again so you can see it coming. But maybe with the lights on this time....
ADDENDUM:
FAIRYTALE HORROR!!!! There's not enough of it. The Brothers Grimm and Gretel and Hansel are excellent examples.

Spirit Companion Asks #1-5
I thought the "whispers and shadows: spirit worker/keeper ask game" is also a great idea! The credit for these questions go to @windvexer .
Spirit "Keeping" was mostly the tie that got me into the whole witchcraft journey, and I actually have been doing this for a long while before I was completely aware. I want to share it but this is a good starter. --- 1. How did you learn about spirits? I have been physically seeing and hearing spirits since I was a toddler. I had always sensed and had known they were there, and even communicated with them in dreams or in random times, and before I sleep. It actually wasn't an idealistic start to be honest. Since I was three, I was seeing a lot of malicious or unnerving types with smiles too wide for my liking, or figures that look like shadow people watching me in the darkness. Or seeing trickster energies around the house trying to give me nightmares back to back...but even angelic figures around and about in strange movements across the scene. It all was surreal and it felt like a dream, but I know they weren't. I just remembered being scared almost all the time. It doesn't help that I had my history of living in some haunted houses. To this day, I can still see them in larger and larger glimpses as I delve into my craft. On the better parts, I interacted with some entities and spirits whom turns out to be my Family members today. (I am happy to say that I don't see those early type of spirits even bothering me again so far) ---
2. What made you choose to work with spirits?
I grew up into it to be honest, since I was around five? I remember my very first "offering" as a child where I baked cookies to leave them in locations where they want to eat the energy. Later I had dreams of them eating malicious energies wandering around the house... when I usually have constant nightmares. I didn't want to work with spirits for a long while even then, I was kind of traumatized from the things I saw, so I tried to just ignore them all growing up. Later in my teen years, I started thinking spirituality and witchcraft were all just delusional fantasies. All fake. Despite still seeing them in my long, thorough skeptic years, I would make sure to tell myself it's just my imagination. Then I was thrusted back into spirit work when someone told me about spirit-"keeping" in the middle of my job. Seriously, it just happened like that, but I thought the lady was delusional too. (She was also explaining it where she described them as slaves, so that didn't help) I just ignored it, but I decided to start off with meditations to calm myself down in my times of low. Let's just say something happened in that session and it made me into a spirit worker immediately. It was then that I slowly started to reconnect with the Family that has been around and about too.
---
3. What do you primarily get out of spirit work?
A happy Family; Just relaxation and good people to hang out with. Though, they are very generous and some manifest touching gifts.
---
4. What do the spirits primarily get out of working with you?
That is a good question. Other than my company, my attention, and my opinions and some food gifts...that's all I got. I sometimes wonder why they want to stick around but I am happy that they seem happy around me. I don't know how to truly repay them, but I hope what I do is enough. ---
5. People use words like "court," "keep," and "circle" to refer to the groups of spirits they are close with. Do you use any terms like this?
We call each other Family, and yes, we capitalized the F to signal the importance of being Family oriented. It just encourages us to keep each other close when we want to do so.

what kind of book?
I've been trying to convince myself not to write like 4 of them for the last 2 years. But frankly that's not really a boat I'm willing to get back on any time in the foreseeable future. Doesn't stop the insatiable desire to write, however- much to my annoyance.
Why do you ask?

Do you have any tips on how to better connect with your guides?
I have not personally done a lot of work here as I'm still defining what I think a guide means in my practice. Some say that any metaphysical entity could be a guide, such as spirits angels, daemons, or even deities.
That being said, I imagine for most it's very similar to any other type of spirit work.
I'd suggest checking out @windvexer and @crazycatsiren as they both have plenty of posts on spirit work! <:

WHY THE 4d IS A MAP TO YOUR 3D
We have all heard to stop trying to change the 3D and I know you’re getting tired of hearing it but it’s so important. The 3D is nothing more than a reflection of your current and past thoughts. That’s it. It has no external or physical power over and you shouldn’t let it have any either way. The 3d, created by your thoughts and beliefs, reflects the 4d. The only way to change the 3D is to change your thoughts.
Think of it like this. The 3D is a movie you’ve seen a million times before but you never understand the ending unless you decide to look it up and realize the one detail given that makes the whole plot wrap up nicely. That one detail is the change in your thoughts. The 3D will always conform to the 4d and the 4d will always spoil the 3D. If you want to know how your story ends, change the way you think about the story (aka get rid of the old story and commit to the new one) and watch the movie be spoiled for you!

Tired of Tumblr? Windvexer's witchcraft content is now available on Patreon
Yeah, Windvexer's witchcraft content is now being archived on Patreon.
I haven't been thrilled with the way the social media winds have been blowing. About a month ago I decided I didn't feel comfy using Tumblr as my primary "creator space" any more.
So I started a pretty sizeable project: downloading and sorting my blog to begin migrating over my witchcraft content (without the chatting and memes) to a platform that feels a heck of a lot more stable.
My goal is to edit, format, and link everything that might be the slightest bit useful that I've said on this blog. So far I have all the masterpost content migrated over (a total of 86 content posts).
I have several hundred posts left to edit and upload. I'm working with a new tagging and organizational system that I think is going to make things a lot easier to navigate.
My posts are currently in 2 categories:
Posts that I can upload with minimal or no editing
Posts that may require significant editing or rewrites before they can see the light of day
My current goal is to continue migrating around 5-10 "easy" posts per week until I run out of them, and then start working on the posts that are more difficult to transfer. I expect that the entire process is going to take months.
Anyway, if you like the Windvexer content but not the Windvexer witchblr goofing off, now there's a thing for you on Patreon.
I'm not going to stop using Tumblr.
All the content on Patreon will stay free to access on Tumblr.
The main difference is that on Patreon, you'll have access to my pure witchcraft content that's sorted, tagged, and ideally easy to navigate. Also you won't have to use Tumblr, which right now is feeling like a huge bonus.
My current plan is to continuously move over anything useful I happen to write to Patreon.
So, if you don't want to use Tumblr any more but you like witchcraft content, all of that is slowly rolling out onto my Patreon. (There is a lot of stuff left to upload).
Feel free to hit the Askbox with questions.

🔥pop culture magic/paganism
Pop culture magic/paganism is an inevitable result of companies (mostly Disney) trying to worm their products into every aspect of our own lives.
But while pop culture magic/paganism may be a result of this, it's also entirely possible to take parts of the media for occult, spiritual, or religious purposes and then refuse to interact with anything new, whether or not the franchise is getting new stuff.
There's also the fact that these things are often protected by copyright, so if you have a company or creator who is really copyright-strike-happy (again, Disney being an example), your practice probably isn't going to be popular online.
There's a lot more nuance to discuss in pop culture magic/paganism than it just being "valid" or """real""", and I wish we could have the time and spaces to discuss these other aspects (even if we have to build them, like I and a few others have) without people butting in like "Well I don't like your practice and I think it's invalid, so STOP DOING IT." We get it, Rebecca! You've been ranting about us existing for months! No one is suppressing your opinion, we're just ignoring you because you clearly don't want us interacting with you.

Bone readings sound lit af, how does that work?
Hey there Chicken! I should have put this on the post itself to clarify, but I have a few different options.
Firstly, I divine with a set of (oh gosh can't count right now) about 20 different bones. These either come forward as a singular spirit of the bone, or as an Archetypal spirit depending on the bone and who wishes to speak at the moment. They provide general advice or thoughts. Typically these come forward as a vision from the spirit's past that they find relevant to the reading, in addition to a "blurb" of sorts. These readings tend to be best suited for specific questions.
Secondly, I have a Caribou and a Fox spirit who prefer to do their readings individually for people. These are typically longer readings as the spirit themselves are very chatty, and include anywhere from one to three (or more!) tarot cards pulled at the spirit's request to clarify the messages. These readings tend to suited for either specific questions, or just general readings!
You can see examples of previous bone readings in my readings tag!

wot doth my familiar want me to do with my time today
🕋
Kaaba - I'm sorry, I'm afraid I probably lack much of the cultural context to properly interpret this for you.
Here's what wikipedia says: The Kaaba is a building at the center of Islam's most important mosque, the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.[1][2] It is the most sacred site in Islam.[3] It is considered by Muslims to be the Bayt Allah (Arabic: بَيْت ٱللَّٰه, lit. 'House of God') and is the qibla (Arabic: قِبْلَة, direction of prayer) for Muslims around the world when performing salah.
I would guess that this means spending time honoring your gods (or maybe your familiar is saying ask your gods to point you in the right direction today?), but somebody more familiar with Islam might have better ideas.
