I found a character bingo in my art folder, throw characters at me in replies or reblogs
If I don't respond to it for a million years then I probably don't know anything about them, sorry-
Edit: I'm not doing this anymore because the options I did were super limited (I didn't realize at the time) and also I kept getting bombarded- You're free to snatch the bingo thingy though

10 Incredible Graphic Novels to Read This Year
10 Incredible Graphic Novels Coming Out in 2023 Graphic novels are a book form that sneaked up on me. I think the first one I read for review here (which blew me away) was ESTRANGED: THE CHANGELING KING by Ethan Aldridge. Once I feasted my eyes on that incredible story, I knew there was no going back. Since then, I’ve built a list of graphic novel writers and artists whose work is too good to be…

Who could say no to a Marjorie Liu graphic novel? I sure can’t (and won’t).
Zuli was raised by mystical bird spirits in the branches of the Great Tree, she’s never been anywhere else. But, when something sinister threatens the magic of the tree, Zuli and her owl, Frowly have to get to the bottom of it. At the same time, Zuli may also find out who she is as well.
It’s an awesome story, and even more so the art by Teny Issakhanian is just… amazing. I loved it so much, and, I am solidly in the ‘I will read anything based on the story and the art is extra’ camp. But, this are was just amazing, and, I’m pretty sure that I’d have read a shopping list for text if this was the accompanying art. Awesome.
You may like this book If you Liked: Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega, The Dragon Path by Ethan Young, or Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi

Since my ffxiv sub is over for now, let us chronicle some of the best moments with the hopescions. Featuring: The ovewhelmingly powerful Humu Humu, the ever stylish Kaitan Jihiren, the stout and chivalrous Bylgrael Blaetbyrtwyn, Miyu Mikazuki (Double Legend, by the way), the always prone to Reaper moments Rinne Bujingai, the glamorous and elegant Noelle Remina and the ever hospitable Sandalphon Wingbearer. Love each and every one of them.

7, 10 and 11 for Cato, please ☺️
I've already answered 10 in the second ask I was sent for the question set, so I'll do 7 and 11!
7: I believe the biggest giveaway for someone trying to impersonate Cato would be them attempting to imitate his personality. Personality traits are hard, if not impossible to fake. Penny and Cato's closest friends would catch onto that as a sign of deception.
11: Cato's name and his two nicknames Sunshine and Wingbear would work. However I think that Wingbear would be most likely used is that is what Cato is called in Quidditch.
Thanks for the ask @nelabelievesindragons!

2022 in Books
My reading stats for this year are so weird because I started reading a lot of children's chapter books and graphic novels. According to Storygraph I've read 292 books this year, and I know I didn't include everything.
Since it's hard to really compare all the things I've read, I've made 3 different top ten lists based on the sorts of things I read this year.
Top Five Books 1. The Wolf Among the Wild Hunt by Merc Fenn Wolfmoor 2. Gryphon Ranger: Crossline Plains by Roz Gibson 3. Flames of Hope by Tui T. Sutherland 4. I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom 5. By the Silver Wind by Jess Owen
Top Graphic Novels 1. Magical Boy by The Kao 2. Dog Man by Dav Pilkey 3. Wingbearer by Marjorie M. Liu 4. Manu! by Kelly Fernandez 5. Space Story by Fiona Ostby
Top Chapter Books Series 1. The Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin 2. Animorphs by KA Applegate 3. Horse Country by Yamile Saied Mendez 4. Unicorn Academy by Julie Sykes 5. Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott
Additional commentary below the Read More, but I'm not the author of any of these books and I don't owe you a Real Summary.
Top Five Books 1. The Wolf Among the Wild Hunt by Merc Fenn Wolfmoor -I'm not usually into spooky stuff, but I am into platonic ride-or-die friendships between people who are convinced they're monsters 2. Gryphon Ranger: Crossline Plains by Roz Gibson -The past couple years have been a revelation in discovery that actually a lot of people feel that gryphons are the best mythical creature and that Redwall was great but Adult talking animals with swords is even better. It seems it is my fate to become a furry. 3. Flames of Hope by Tui T. Sutherland -I still do love dragons, and this was a very satisfying season finale for Wings of Fire. Tui has done several variations on subverting the Chosen One and it's a unique and interesting take each time. 4. I Hope We Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom -Everything that is wrong with Internet Queer Culture and how to fix it. Well, sort of. It's a good read for recentering oneself, I think. 5. By the Silver Wind by Jess Owen -Speaking of gryphons, I'm not sure how long it took me to finish this series, but I am slowly working my way through the canon of Gryphon fantasy.
Top Graphic Novels 1. Magical Boy by The Kao -A trans boy finds out that he's inherited his mother's magical girl powers - including her outfit! A loving parody of the magical girl genre that also expresses how frustrating it is for queer and trans folks. 2. Dog Man by Dav Pilkey -Come for the poop jokes, stay for the generational trauma and moral philosophy. Dav Pilkey is a genius and I will die on this hill. 3. Wingbearer by Marjorie M. Liu -No this one isn't about gryphons, they just show up briefly. It's just so pretty... 4. Manu! by Kelly Fernandez -What if a magical school was a girl's Catholic school? And one of the kids may or may not be a demon, but is definitely an adorable chaos queerling? 5. Space Story by Fiona Ostby -three timelines - one of a woman on a space station waiting for her family, one of her wife and child building a ship to join her, and one of how the two of them met. Slow and sweet and hopeful in the face of a bleak future and a really good use of multiple timelines.
Top Chapter Books Series 1. The Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin -I would have hated these as a tween, but as an adult they're bomb. I'm only like 20 in but they're a masterclass in character development and episodic storytelling. 2. Animorphs by KA Applegate -I never actually finished the series as a kid, and was hoping to do so this year, but that will probably take until January. Anyway it's way more intense than I remember. 3. Horse Country by Yamile Saied Mendez -Just another horse girl series, but this one stars girls of color who are flawed and interesting characters. 4. Unicorn Academy by Julie Sykes -It's trash. Absolute trash. Girls in a boarding school who get paired with a unicorn and need to unlock their magical talent with Power of Friendship while going on somewhat contrived G-rated adventures. Absolute garbage writing and worldbuilding. But it's my kind of trash and I fucking love it. 5. Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott -Another masterclass in episodic storytelling, and how to balance standalone adventures with longform plot. Early volumes are a bit twee but the stakes get raised as the series goes on. I want to co-author this but with kids of color exploring a fantasyland that is less colonialist.

My annual Women of the Year post is up, in which I look back at some of the female characters that were fun, or controversial, or otherwise notable in 2023. I have to admit it was a bit of an unproductive year for this particular project of mine, though a lot of that had to do with the fact I simply didn’t have the time to watch or read as much as I usually do. So pickings felt a bit slim (with a few obvious standouts).
January: Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan) from Legend of the Seeker
February: Camille Bordey (Sara Martins) from Death in Paradise
March: Zoe Reynolds (Keeley Hawes) from Spooks
April: Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh) from Everything Everywhere All At Once
May: General Nanisca (Viola Davis) from The Woman King
June: Bluey and Bingo from Bluey
July: Zuli from Wingbearer
August: Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz) from Nimona
September: Claudia (Racquel Belmonte) from The Dragon Prince
October: Wednesday Addams (assorted actresses) from The Addams Family
November: Sam and Tara Carpenter (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) from Scream 5 and 6
December: Zita from Zita the Space Girl

The top books I read in 2023:
Yona of the Dawn by Mizuho Kusanagi- this became my favourite manga series ever and I highly recommend it.
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes- the vibes were great and reminded me of some of my favourite things
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston- I rarely read romance because I tend to feel very ehh about them but this one was great and I loved it so much that immediately afterwards I wanted to reread it and annotate it
Wingbearer by Marjorie Liu- this had so many things that spoke to my soul and I can’t wait for the sequel
Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie- again the vibes
The Ancient Magus’ Bride by Kore Yamazaki- my love for this isn’t as great as my love for Yona but it’s a great series and I highly recommend it
All That’s Left in the World by Erik J. Brown- my favourite apocalypse book to date and I can’t wait for the sequel
Anatomy: a love story by Dana Schwartz- once again the vibes
Maus the complete story by Art Spiegelman- this taught me so much and made me want to pick up more nonfiction
The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin- made me want to pick up more historical fiction and read every book that was mentioned in the book
In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire- the Wayward Children series is just great
Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire- if you’ve been putting off this series please pick it up you won’t regret it
Dune by Frank Herbert- this was so relaxing to me which is not something that is usually said about this but I think it was because of how much I was enjoying it before I soft dnf’ed it that when I restarted this book it felt like returning home. And the fact that Dune part one is a comfort movie for me probably also played a part in this.

The October 2023 Reading List
Since one of my writing goals was to read more, I thought it would help to keep track of what I knocked off Mount Tsundoku. Here’s as good a place as any to post what I’ve read to keep me honest, and what my favourite reads were each month. Burn It Down by Maureen Ryan Wingbearer by Marjorie Liu, Teny Issakhanian: Signal Decay by Keith Cadieux All My Friends by Hope Larson Silver Nitrate by…

After seeing this was by Marjorie Liu, I had a feeling I was going to like it, and boy was I right. The story hooked me right from the get-go, and Teny Issakhanian's were beautiful. Zuli is immediately an utterly likable protagonist, and all of her companions—Frowly, Orien, even the brief encounters along the way—made for such a captivating story. Along with the characters, the world that was created for this story was super complex and felt very well thought out, which is especially nice since this was only the first book. This was definitely one of the best graphic novels I've read this year (rivaled only by Liu's other series) and I am so excited to see where they go with this story since the ending was such a cliffhanger.
Favorite Quote: We are all born at a crossroads, with many paths before us. And there is always a choice. We can choose to kneel down, or stand. We can choose to hide, or fight.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Author: Marjorie Liu
Illustrator: Teny Issakhanian
