i loooooovelovelove this idea started by @winterandwords to participate in nano at your own pace and add a self-care goal into the mix, so i'm definitely jumping on board.

i don't usually struggle with nano levels of output once i have a concrete outline in place, but i do struggle to get writing done when i'm working on other creative outlets and i'm going to be sewing my wedding dress in the coming weeks, which will definitely drain a lot of that creative energy, and i'm going to be working on my seminar paper all of november ... so being more realistic is super important right now so i don't burn out. plus, my self-care practices have really fallen to the side in the last few months, so! what a fantastic idea, and thank you again winter for the push to do this!!

writing goals

i'm going to be working on I Tried To Bury You (TTB), the religious-themed novella i've been working on outlining and sparse drafting over the last six or so weeks. (@ my beloved alpha reader applicants: i promise Conversion is still alive; i just reached a plateau and have back-burnered it for a few weeks!) my seminar paper will actually be looking at christian rhetorics, particularly deconstruction and how women discuss their reasons for leaving their faith communities; that topic dovetails quite well with TTB, so i'm giving myself a bit of a cheat with goal one.

do something daily that helps with TTB progress; if i work on my seminar paper, that technically counts towards this goal, since a lot of the same themes are present!

write 5,000 words per week on TTB

stretch goal: write at least 100 words per day

self-care goals

i've reaaaaally fallen off my best self-care habits, so i want to use november to really get back on the wagon and justify my continued subscription to The Underbelly:

do yoga three times per week

journal three times per week (esp on moon phases! i don't practice any spirituality but i love the idea of following a moon-based calendar so this would be a great way to get back into that)

stretch goal: one self-care act per day (yoga and journaling count, as do all the other things that are like preventative maintenance for my body -- nice smelling showers and bubble baths, meal prepping and batch cooking, not eating hot cheetos no matter how much i want them since they give me headaches, spending time outside, etc.)

also, i'm going to follow the #calmwrimo hashtag and try to reblog something most days, as posts allow!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? (I'm skipping the first two here, because they're my Remadora Ficlets and my Fluffbruary stories) 1. Something Bad Rated M, Harry comes downstairs to make breakfast for Ginny's birthday, only to discover that Lily has shown her first instance of accidental magic and covered the kitchen in flour.

2. Not Tonight Rated M, My first Tedromeda fic! Written for the TTB Yule Bash last year and the beginning of an obsession.

3. The Truth Rated G, I didn't realise this one had so many kudos. It's Tonks telling her parents about Sirius' death and admitting to them about her situationship with Remus the morning after the Ministry.

4. When Pain is Over Rated G, Lily Luna gets an insight into what Ginny went through during the war.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to respond to every comment, mostly because I love when authors reply to me. Sometimes I fall behind or I miss some, but I do my best.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angtiest ending? Probably Grief which is an exploration of Andromeda's grief after the war, or Don't Go, which is Tonks leaving Teddy with Andromeda. Basically anything to do with Andromeda losing nearly everyone she holds dear. 7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Too many to count, I love a happy ending!!

8. Do you get hate on fics? No I've never gotten any hate, but I do mostly write for a smaller ship that doesn't have a competing ship, so there's less opportunity for hate.

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind? I do, but I struggle with it. I much prefer a fade to black sometimes

FAQs

Do I need to have read Hawksong/Forbidden Game/etc?

No. I try really hard to make every fic self-contained, and allude to relevant canon bits. Knowing the canon makes my fics richer, but I try not to rely on canon knowledge bc my source material is all 20+ years old :P

Do I need to read TTB before Frayed Knots (or vice versa)?

No. Frayed knots are all little what ifs and half chased ideas. There's no plot to FK, they're all just scene and character studies, or deleted scenes/bloopers

Isn't this scene just line for line from Hawksong?

Yes, probably. A lot of the earliest updates to TTB were me sitting down, cracking open the book, and writing the scene word for word until new words came. Originally, I'd meant for TTB to fit in between the extant plot of Hawksong. But my own ideas kept expanding, and eventually, one day I picked up the book to find a jumping off point and realized I'd diverged way too far to do that anymore.

When do you update/are you going to update X?

I work primarily on my own original projects when I sit down to write. Fic comes as the mood strikes me, and I do tend to lose interest in ideas very quickly after they first come

Original projects?

Ties that Bind: A queer, polyamorous, Romeo and Juliet with shapeshifters set on a backdrop of the first tentative peace in a thousand year war. Anticipated f/f, m/m, and many other shapes of m/f/m and/or f/m/f, potentially kinky if I ever get it there. Also potentially ace/qpr stuff if I can ever figure out my MC and what is true in this fic vs what belongs in side projects. Canon's hotter cousin with more magic, more setting development, A LOT more romance, and a distant relation to the original in the way that Vaporeon resembles Eevee. It wants to still fit in canon's clothes but really needs to admit its grown too big for that.

This is the big one. I realized revisiting my favorite childhood series that the big epic romance I always remembered was mostly in my head. So I decided to get it out of my head and onto paper. That is... not what happened XD It follows the basic Romeo/Julietness of Hawksong, but I decided to really explore the world and characters and so made a lot of executive decisions bc there actually isn't that much about the world/characters in the original. It's diverged wildly, spiraled out of control into a 30+ chapters novel (lets be honest) and isn't ending any time soon. It's the one I most want to work on so send me asks and encouragement about it so I can get working on it again :P

Basically, Zane and Danica are still deeply dedicated to peace. They think the idea of getting married to achieve it is ridiculous, but they're desperate enough to keep it on the back burner. Dani gets to know Zane (and Adelina) as friends. She explores her relationship with Rei. She struggles with bureaucracy and a well-meaning mother that doesn't always support her in the way she needs. Also there's a bit more magic, a lot more setting, and a bunch of characters I kinda made up to help flesh things out (hello Vasili's made up cousin). Current plans include finishing it with some sort of marriage, but I haven't decided if Zanica is endgame or not (the dynamic currently in the lead in my head is Dani takes Adelina as her Alistair, Zane takes Rei as his Nag, and the four of them all kinda co-rule. We'll see. Everyone is going to kiss everyone else before its done that's for sure)

Really, Frayed Knots is a great place to start if you wanna read TTB but are kind of intimidated by its scope. Most FK entries are 1-3 chapters. A sampler platter of my nonsense basically :P

Basically, the song Holy Fire by Seeming wouldn't leave me alone one day and this fell out.

i'm gonna use these questions to introduce a new wip i'm working on! i don't know the name of it yet lol but i'm tagging it "wip: ttb" because i was calling it i tried to bury you but you wouldn't stay dead. a rough synopsis: novella-length, depressing af, dual-POV (duet-POV?), second-person litfic about a preacher's son and a town outcast who fall in love and tell select stories of their relationship before the preacher's son went missing.

(1) What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?

i don't really write lessons into my work, but as far as themes go: what we replace it with when we lose religion, sex-as-religion, the limitations of identity and our struggles to break out of them, hauntings, ghosts-as-wishes, and the brutality of religion

(2) What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?

i'm always a little unsure of how to answer this because it's not fantasy, but the setting is a small town i spent a lot of time in during my childhood in the south! it was a rural, 50k population, churches on every corner sort of place. i'm trying hard to nail that vibe as well as possible, including exploring it on google maps a ton

(3) What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?

i think both main characters are mostly concerned with closure; i'm really just trying to tell the story, tbh!

(4) How many chapters is your story going to have?

i have a very specific vision in mind for this wip -- i have plans for 9 chapters, around 6k words apiece, each centered on a biblical place and a related theme from southern baptist teachings. it'll be somewhat evenly split between the MCs' versions of the same story with an interlude i'm tentatively calling lamentations, which is a very short "dream" the woman has of a way the man dies (hence its tentative title)

(5) Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

original content! not sure yet -- i'm contemplating whether i want to try trad publishing or potentially release it here on tumblr.

(6) When and why did you start writing?

i'm not sure if this means generally or this story -- so you get both answers. i don't remember when and why i started writing, but my earliest clear memory of writing is when i was ten. it feels like scratching an itch tbh. for this story, i would say it has roots in a similar story (another dual-POV, second-person, man disappears type story) i wrote for my first ever creative writing course which coalesced into this via various pieces of media i was consuming at the time -- way too much lana del rey, some david lynch (particularly blue velvet), and the book of eve, to name a few. the why, though, is because it just sort of popped into my brain and i'd be itchy if i didn't, to continue the previous metaphor

(7) Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?

stop caring about the market, tbh. to borrow a line from community, caring is lethal. just write the story and find the audience later

hi, ty for the ask!! i'm answering for both TTB and conversion:

⌛️ [Hourglass] How long have you been working on this WIP?

conversion has been probably the quickest idea-to-fruition project i've worked on pretty much ever -- i came up with the idea sometime around march, i wanna say, and i'm currently revising the first draft, so only 7ish months!

on the other hand, TTB is one of my oldest stories revamped and repackaged, but the core concept/structure (duet-POV/second-person/he's-been-dead-the-whole-time-they're-telling-the-story romance) has been around since i wrote the first version when i was 18 because i really, really liked a damien rice/melanie laurent love song.

📚 [Books] Is this WIP part of a series or standalone?

conversion is... questionably possibly part of a series or at least duology. i have thoughts for a semi-sequel that i was originally planning to work on next month, but i'm not there yet with the story and i don't know if it'll ever happen or not.

TTB is a standalone, thankfully(?). (i'm not good at planning multiple entries, but this is one of my "fuck why's it gotta be so saaaad" stories so sometimes i wistfully dream about additional entries so it doesn't end on such a goddamn dour note)

WIP a mock magazine cover for Lightbright because we’re repping SEA girlies in this house, but I wanna discuss the worldbuilding I tripped into language-wise, which happens to be why Caminus is called “Caminus” in Ties That Bind.

It is written as Kaminus in Malay, one of the more prevalent ethnicities on Caminus (which has a heavily Asian demographic, skewing to South and SouthEast) since that’s how it’s pronounced of course, we don’t have a hard “C”, but the idea is that Kaminus/‘Caminus’ is the short form of Kaminusantara. Kami means either “We/Our” in Malay while Nusantara is an old Javanese term that means “outer islands”.

Given that TTB’s Caminus is designed as a floating 'country' divided into several city ‘islands’:

It's particularly fitting to describe the settlement and have a sort of shared, collective ownership of the Titan among them (no one group of people has a bigger claim on it) because forget where you came from or what your issues with each other back on Earth were: This is a new planet, and these are our islands.

WIP going to hell in a handbasket for this (hey Tumblr how’re we feeling about high tech lobotomy on a child), but on the bright side, Trepan getting fucking ruined by Prowl after Prowl finds out this is “Uncle Gold-Eyes” who experimented with mnemosurgery on young ‘defective’ cadets at his old academy to ‘fix’ them, including on Prowl himself, is a special kind of TTB catharsis.

7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now?

a lot. like. too many. just ideas that haven’t been turned into wips…. maybe approaching ten?

13. How much planning do you do before writing?

tbh it depends. i go into oneshots blind with nothing but an idea and a dream, maybe a rambly stream of consciousness on notion for what i want in it. for longer fics i usually write out vaguely what i want to happen in each chapter (unless it’s like the ttb au where there’s a lot of details to keep track of, then i spend a lot of time fleshing out what i can beforehand)
