Odette is a Nun Errant, traveling is part of her duties! She spends a lot of time on the road and is always adjusting what is in her pack. Here is a general list of what she might carry with her:

An extra set of traveling clothing.

Weather-proofed boots, spare.

Homespun wool yarn and knitting needles.

Whatever knitting project she’s working on currently.

A very beefy first aid kit. Just in case!

Supplies for cleaning graves:

Brushes of various sizes and bristle stiffness

Clean cloths, and dirty ones stuffed into a ‘to wash’ bag.

Gentle cleaning solutions

A little folding shovel for particularly gritty situations.

Blessed cloth of various make to use for burial shrouds and wraps, as needed. 

Bottled moon-touched waters for blessings.

A substantial letter writing kit.

Karakul Feed (Rou)

Hoof care supplies (Rou)

Rope.

Tent and bedroll, weather-proofed.

Various herbs used to quiet the restless dead.

Armor Care Kit (cloths, oils, wax, etc)

Sword Care Kit (cloths, oils, wax, whetstone, etc)

Fire Starting Kit.

A camp chair/stool.

A hammock.

Approx four to six books, swapped as she travels. 

Foraging books, just to double check her finds and to press flower petals with. 

Compass and several maps of regions.

Odette’s is not very good at ‘figuring stuff out on the fly.’ She would love nothing more than to be a cool go-with-the-flow kind of girl. Alas, the bees. Even her day-to-day wear tends to feature a lot of bags and deep pockets. In these she carries:

Small vials of moon-touched water for blessings.

Several polished moonstones to give out as worry stones and good luck charms.

Several trinkets to give to friends for protection and love, made by her own hand.

Her prayer beads, carved and assembled by her Sisters

Pencils and notebooks.

At least one book she’s currently reading.

Snacks.

Mints.

Whatever she’s pinched from other people’s pockets.

For the two people who care about trilingual fic, I need to talk about the hair. Because when I was translating, it was something I didn't remember doing that really surprised me.

Okay so each of the Wicker's hair is symbolic of their characters but especially Joel's character arc (which I'm working on a conclusion for because it never got that far initially)

So Joel's whole thing is he's incredibly aggressive to people outside of his family because he pretty much blames them for why Jocelyn left (and also why Jacob briefly left). He also is desperate for Jacob's approval because Jacob is his father figure. His family are his only connections and he is desperate to keep them. Now Joel is the only one who doesn't have blonde hair. It was blonde when he was younger but it got darker. So now he bleaches it to try and fit in with his family. But since he has absolutely no interest in hair and beauty it's completely fried and dead and often grown out. He's clinging to a family identity at the expense of his individual identity and when I was translating and realised I'd embedded that into what his hair looked like I deeply questioned why a brain so tried it couldn't stick to one language could write better symbolism than it does fully conscious.

it's like. everything happens so much. it's all happening right now but at the same time nothing is happening whatsoever. it's a liminal space of an existence. it's slowly crushing me under the weight but when I look up there's nothing actually bearing down on me. there shouldn't be any weight. something is wrong but nothing has happened. I'm simultaneously overwhelmed and utterly bored. nothing is happening and maybe that's the everything that's happening. maybe the everything is the nothing. we aren't there yet but it's all so imminent. either everything is going to crash down or nothing is. I'm just waiting to figure out which.

you are right. this didn't happen ten years ago. (although the pace of their growth and increasing frequency was properly picking up at that point. i live in a place where we have frequent natural burns (fire season is late summer early fall) and every year the fires are larger, more frequent, and more destructive. iirc you're in the Michigan area, and with the warming of the boreal forest due to the shifting climate y'all up north are in for some truly nasty and devastating wildfires. i know, having grown up in extreme poverty, that putting together a disaster kit can be really tough when you're poor but i really really strongly encourage anyone who can do so get a couple of good masks (n95/p95 works okay but n100/p100 are really preferable) and some decent quality filters that you can tape to the back of a box fan. ideally merv12+. paper or cloth masks don't protect your lungs from wildfire smoke, even when wet, because they don't stop the really fine particulate. take it as easy as you possibly can with regard to physical activity, and stay indoors and much as possible with the doors and windows closed. if you have air conditioning it's a good idea to run it to get the air circulating through the filter. get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, be safe. I'm sending you all the love and support i can muster.
