Narvin is very consistent in how he calls Romana in these early stories. If talking to her he uses either Madam or Madam President, if talking about her it's the President. But occasionally there are our illustrious President or Gallifrey's protector said in the most sarcastic tone. Narvin<3

Scene from Gallifrey Season 2: Imperiatrix. Absolutely loved injecting some action into this!

This is a "remastered" version of the first Gallifrey comic I made. I was short on time and decided to just shade it rather than do a full colour treatment (but in subsequent comics decided to drop the shading and do colour instead). Recently, with more time and a better grasp of the characters' features, I went back and reworked it – which is why it's fully shaded (not something I intend on keeping up!)

I'm gonna throw up, Tegan seeing someone who was so young and broken but he's old now. He has wrinkles, thinner hair, a belly. A smile untempered by grief, the abandon to hug her like they never had before. But when she left these are things she could never have imagined for him. He always had death, its hand on his shoulder. And yes he did die young, but that's not how the TARDIS remembers him, how they meet again.

And five?

He sees the same woman that left him behind, just as loud, as beautiful and as obstinate. He's teasing, they've both aged, but she's still the same Tegan and he's so pleased to see her. That the TARDIS would reach out and remember them.

the whole Rorvan and Taris situation doesn't get enough credit for just how fucked up it is for Romana to find out. imagine being someone who's never felt you've been able to let out your inner child, even when you WERE a child, imagine thinking you grew up alone, lonely and only ever making your own fun and then imagine you find out that that's not even true. you had these two friends you played with, got into scrapes with and messed about with and they were removed from time so they never existed. Romana was always so proud of her achievments at the Academy because that's what she did with her childhood, that's all she Could do, and she puts that down to how hard she studied and how much she removed herself from other people but then she learns that isn't true, and she did have friends at first and that didn't affect her grades at all. and if that's true then what was all the pain for? nothing. it's not something Romana really reacts to in full in the story itself which is a shame but i don't doubt that once she was back on Gallifrey she had to take a moment to herself just to fully process what had been stolen from her

Yes, gallifrey may be full of impactful and tragic moments and the characters face so much hardship, and their actions are often motivated by the threat of death and destruction, but very importantly, it is also a workplace comedy

I get you going on about older Narvin but I like to see him a really young, like younger than Romana, as Vansell is the Doctors age and coordinator by at least the sixth incarnation (latest 7th) and the Doctor is only about 6-900 years old and we know the CIA recruits even before entering the academy for maximum indoctrination. The CIA agents probably do a bit of backstabbing and manipulation and the fact they are all for intervention and the haphazard way they operate makes me think they don’t have a long life span and often die early on. So Narvin finding himself Director at a very young age is very very fun idea. The CIA are full of youths indoctrinated in a a corrupt system. I also think if Marvin is the youngest it’s very funny, he may even be younger than Leela if we go of the same maths and her being around 2-300 by Zagreus. Narvin being son young and having his regeneration striped from makes it even more tragic.

that's fair! i think realistically all of the Gallifrey characters are somewhat younger than the average Time Lord – Romana is explicitly very young to be President and even the Doctor (and therefore Vansell and probably Braxiatel) are still fairly young by Time Lord standards (assuming Time Lords are capable of living around 10,000 in total or a little less than 1000 years per incarnation as i think canon generally agrees on). so even if Narvin became Coordinator when he was around ~1000 years old, he's still young for his role compared to what used to be the standard for the rest of the High Council.

i definitely agree that CIA agents have a much shorter life expectancy than the average Time Lord due to y'know... actually having a dangerous job. i would however point out that Narvin wasn't always CIA. in The Inquiry flashbacks, he was a technician on Project Alpha and the cover-up of that directly led to him joining the CIA so even if he didn't have a long life pre-CIA, he did have a whole career already established for himself before ever joining the CIA/going through training/etc which is the main reason i think he's older than at least Romana.

i do very much like the inherent comedy & tragedy in Narvin being very young for his position at the start of the series but yeah my mind keeps flipping back and forth between his age because "this has Narrative Potential" and "this makes more logical sense going by the established timelines" are unfortunately different things.
