I didn’t include this in my original post because, again, I was focusing on book (and MTKay’s) Wen Kexing that doesn’t have a fan. But it’s a cool shot and after stewing on it for a while, I think this is probably what a hybrid of book and show Lao Wen would look like. So out into the world it goes. May Gong Jun grant me his cheekbones in the future for other photoshoots if it comes down to that.

Slowly getting better at making robes!! My sewing machine is a picky bitch so this took a while (had the wrong type of thread ig??? Idk I swapped it out for a different color and it worked perfect lmao)

But here's the newest non-cosplay one made out of an old flat (queen size) bedsheet lmao

1/6 custom wenzhou action figures and how I made them:

It all starts with heads, namely with me complaining to all my friends, that there are no 1/6 heads for ZZS, and then one day I was told, that there is a head, and so it started. Coco had also WKS heads, but they had a lower resemblance then resin heads, so I took the resin head 

There were two problems:

1. I never painted heads, that are soft

2. To get the head on or off the body one needed to use a hairdryer and some magic

So I decided there is no point in painting a rubber head and recast it (I also recast WKS head, just in case) 

Then I painted the heads. I was lucky to find a paint that was the same color as the body. I used sponges to make multiple thin layers for the skin to look good. Then I painted the lips, the eyes, some shadows and the eyebrows (it was the most complicated part) 

For the wigs I used black wet wipes to make the caps and sheep and goat fur as hair. First I glued multiple layers of wipes, so the cap complies with the line of hair growth, then I sewed the fur to the cap, after which I spent a lot of time cutting and styling the hair 

Shoes.

First come the references and the backstage references. Then some thin leather, paperboard, cutting, sewing, gluing and painting the outsoles white 

For the robes I used the thinnest cotton I could find, cause we are in a 1/6 world and we still have 4 layers of clothing. The tricky part was finding out how to cut all the robes, so I used all the BTS footage I could find.

love WoH costumes they look so good and are so hard to cut. I also appreciate the fact that I'm doing 1/6 and not 1/1 cosplay, though with a sewing machine it would be way faster.

The fan was made of paperboard and thin wrapping paper (it is a low-budget custom). The fan can't be folded due to it's size and the fact that  the spokes are glued.

There were leaves on WKS outer robe, so I embroider some.

The hairpin was low on details, but after it was painted silver it became shiny, so it did the job.

Aang’s line delivery isn’t the best but I can allow it because his emotions are okay and also he’s so small.

Anime Expo pics!

I ‘successfully’ made it to Anime Expo.  I had no travel issues going to LA and even had a day to visit the Getty (note, the building is super cool - the art is meh).  Much delicious food was had and I bravely cosplayed on Day 2/Saturday of the con.  All in all, the cosplay held up very well and was comfortable despite having to wait outside and stand in the famous lines of AX.  Thankfully, most of them were in the shade but I did stand a bit in the sun and it was not roasting.  Hoping to get some easy pics on the set in the Entertainment Hall, I still had to wait 30 minutes for a chance to pose - after 9pm!  This con is bonkers crowded man.  I would have preferred to have gone to Anime Central but my moving schedule prevented it.  I’m thinking ACen or Katsucon next year already.

This is me trying to look thoughtful.  I had the wrong color and size of fan since I’d packed the white one in my moving boxes by accident - along with the hairpin.  I used a post it note taped around a pencil as my hairpin hack and just used the green fan to have a fan.

Here is a nice full shot of the outfit.  I am very picky about shoes and walking around a con so I just wore plain black boots which were what I wanted.

The different layers were quite comfortable and I’m glad I used the cotton for the white/red layers.  Here, I’m still miffed about the wrong color fan so I’m trying to look serious or something with it closed.

Of course, I still had to pose with it open - maybe if I’m really dedicated I’ll try to photoshop it.  Gotta look all sly and mysterious . . .

When I checked my mailbox today I found this - oh the irony!  You were supposed to be delivered before I left!

It isn’t an exact match but I’ll have to cosplay this at least one more time with better accessories!  It turned out that I put on the cosplay before 8am, and wore it until almost 10pm!  Thus, I died after all of the nerdy things I partook in all day.  Turns out I put in ~16,565 steps that day.  The wig also held up decently with my friend’s constant assistance when I had to put my bag on and off. 

I really like messenger bags for crowds but, it was hard to put over the long haired wig.  Going to the bathroom wasn’t difficult but tedious - I did not wear pants underneath for two reasons: 1.) it was hot outside 2.) shorts are much easier to work with than a regular pair of pants under all those layers.

I was also excited the the first person I spotted that day was Ah Xu!  I’m so short ;_;

As far as I could tell, we were the only WOH cosplayers - unless someone else was hiding in the massive crowds (totally possible).  I saw tons of Hualian and the MXTX cosplayers were huge.  TGCF first, MDZS second, SVSSS third.  I was happy to find a Liu Mingyan on Friday in the artists alley and we were excited to be SVSSS fans.  I also found one Ranwan couple with great details - the matching red stone necklaces, and whips in red and gold. . . .  but that was it.  Maybe after the 2ha novel comes out in the fall, cons will have more 2ha cosplayers in the future.  I know my next one is SQQ, but other series should have cosplayers as well.  SPL would be great with Gu Mang and his single eyeglass or Yuwu.

I think I've got abt 4 sections of this chapter left. As per I always try to get a chapter of WoH out each month and possibly another fic though the other fic I'm unsure of. P3 Reload is also coming out and I am gonna be playing that too. I have next week off too so I'll see what happens as I need to prepare some cosplay stuff too

The eternal faith production team hired a fan group to come and take photos of the filming to see what the audience response will be and if they should do discreet filming. When the photos came out and everyone started cursing them, they got mad at the fan group and started beating them up and kicking them out. One of the girls was injured and they had to call for an ambulance.

The girls filmed them and posted about the experience and have threatened to sue the man who beat them.

I don't know, seeing the videos and learning about this I have turned really sour towards the production. They seem very irresponsible and thoughtless.

i didnt know if the fan group was hired or not, but i did see the pictures and video of the altercation (dont have them rn sorry!)

fckn grown ass men ganging up and beating these girls w no protection whatsoever it was really infuriating

i have no hopes at all from the production team at all, they have time and again proven to be incompetent. half their budget highkey went into buying hot searches on weibo before the casting was announced

for the costumes, yes i know they werent the final costumes just for the camera test however, i am talking about the general pattern of the dress, zlh's san lang costume looks like hua chengs dress. the expectations are higher and rightly so, its a pretty popular novel. they have TONS of references, be it cosplays, fanarts, or even official arts from other adaptations.

i still am trying to be positive and hope that they'll pull a 180 on us and deliver a beautiful series but oh well. they werent even bothered with a good name so think what you will.

for the screenwriting, tgcf is a pretty gay book. i mean, the whole point of hua chengs existence is his love for xie lian. its going to take some extremely clever brain time to pass censorship while not losing the essence of the book. so i am prepared to be underwhelmed

but i sincerely urge everyone not to compare this to woh, wohs success was largely based on the fact that it was an obscure, low budget drama no one was paying attention to. tgcf is completely opposite.

that being said, none of this is the actors fault. even if they dont physically fit into your expectations of hc/xl, we cannot tell anything before we see them in action. please do not confuse production team with the actors and spam them with hate. be kinder, i actually somewhat anticipate zxw's portrayal of xl, i think he will surprise us all.

we cant change stuff, so lets be patient, hate on the production team and hope it all works out.

A small little costuming detail about WOH that has been making me giggle recently is that clearly their wig money is limited.  So, apparently it’s not so easy to get wigs with the hair in actual historical long hair UP styles.  See, contrary to what you might think, you can’t just take a long haired wig and pull that hair up like you would with real hair.  Wig hair only goes one direction, so if you pull up a hair down wig it looks terribly in the back.  You have to either get one made specially (which is much more rare) or take it apart and totally restitch it with the weaves going the opposite way.

But some of the wigs in this show were clearly just long wigs pulled up and some attempt made to either hide the edge with other hair pieces (like braids) or just...not bothered with for more minor characters.

And as someone who has tried to cheat a wig that way for cosplay, I feel that in my soul.  (Like to try to remake one is probably a week of work or something so yeah...eh, make do!)
