Façade: in order to go out on a public date, Souji elects to disguise as a girl. i like fics where they work thru their issues... but it's still quite fluffy! this one miiiight be on AO3 or ffn

One Way to Start the Morning: Yukiko and Yosuke talk about being in love with their best friends... as much as Yosuke can admit it anyway. realistically awkward but genuine Yosuke and Yukiko friendship, hooray! [warnings for one use of slur]

Whisperwind: Yosuke gains telepathic powers and it's too much (a sorta Carrie au). very surreal but well done horror fic (there is souyo but as you can imagine, it doesn't end well) [no smut but it is very gory so think maybe R? instead of NC-17; major character death]

Contact: souyo's relationship through touch. wonderful sense of tension and space throughout this fic, and i love viewing their progression thru one specific lens

Breaking Up is Hard To Do: Yosuke confesses... the night before Souji leaves. once again the genre is souyo/working on their issues. excellent, naturalistic dialog and not too angsty...

Bruise My Head: Souji gets a bit fat and meets up with Yosuke years after. flashbacks (one is the short nsfw in this fic) are interspersed in this future fic, and it's an interesting examination how they might change and what stays the same (and how there's always something to work on) [warnings for eating disorders + brief self harm mention]

Technique: Yosuke totally knows what a blowjob is. totally. (smut that doesn't go perfectly >>>>>)

Its a Hard Life: Yosuke falls on hard times, becoming a prostitute and gets a regular who looks very familiar (it's Souji's dad). listen, I'm not gonna pretend that this one isn't carried by pure DRAMA and whump [warnings for dubcon + noncon]

Unfortunate Timing: souyo are having phone sex when Nanako has the WORST timing. Souji's dilemma is supremely entertaining, and we love bratty!Yosuke [warnings for Nanako? she's not a part of/aware of the sex per se but she's in the vicinity if that squicks you out]

Experience: Kanji learns a thing or two from established souyo. the Kanji pov is an interesting angle to view souyo and how well they work together [warnings for dp]

I HAVE NO DUNGEON, AND I MUST TROLL!: Yosuke has a personal blog- very personal- that starts getting hate from one anonymous Souji. this fic is unique for presenting the lj/comments true to life and there's a lovely floaty style to the offline sections; this fic is also an interesting look into Jerkji, who we don't see often in fan characterization anymore [warnings for manipulative!Souji; eating disorders (adjacent); dubcon; suicidal actions]

and finally Sympathy Crime even though pretty much everyone already knows about it AKA the fic where Adachi manipulates Yosuke into a relationship and it takes a tole on the investigation. heed the warnings of abuse, rape, torture, and suicidal thoughts/attempts seriously as the fic goes in depth to depict these, the horrifying effects, and then recovery. It does not pull any punches. The fic really understands how anyone can be susceptible to abuse and how important a support system/lack thereof is. It is incredibly well written- and that is in part because it has a message about horrendous acts of abuse. Additionally, it's a 200k+ (i think) word read so it is A Lot. Sympathy Crime is 100% not for everyone, but if you think you can tolerate reading the subject matter, there is a reason why this is a monolithic fic in P4 fandom history

I am so so so enamored with Clara (also, this will be my last ask for the night since I don't wanna clog your inbox lol). What's Clara's general personality? Her likes and dislikes? My apologies if youve answered these already, i can go back to read if you did. Also...would it be okay if I wrote for Clara and the 141 at some point in the future? It's totally cool if not!!!!

Clara in my head is generally very shy and reserved, really in her head a lot of the time. She's got a big imagination and a lot more to say than she actually says aloud! (Has a good joke once in a while that just. Floors everyone so much that she spoke that they might forget to even laugh at the joke, even if it is good.) She's from a family of Danish immigrants who moved to the states (how creative DONT @ ME)She takes her job very seriously- gets teased a bit for how serious she is at all times... she's a good shot and uses her large stature to her advantage in hand to hand but doesn't fly very well and isn't much for covert ops. She takes pleasure in being both independent and taking care of others. She's got a small family that is strained at times but she's working on those relationships (it is mostly her and her siblings breaking generational habits) She gets along with pretty much anyone worthwhile and does tend to trust authority a bit more than the average soldier- which she relies upon her teammates to call her out on. Clara knew she was a lesbian since she was very little, but probably went through a brief period of denial when she was 13, but now she's open and proud about it. (I imagine someone got her a patch for her plate carrier that is a very subtle lesbian flag) She's a great team player and doesn't mind taking leadership or side roles. In my head she's like one of those big as dogs that are insanely gentle.

IDK as much as I love dark and terrible backstories (if I can put this in DND terms) I just like the idea of her just being a shy half giant barbarian more than her being a rogue.

Clara likes small animals. She's a fan of birdwatching and fishing in her spare time. She hates reading long passages (dyslexic ftw). She is one of the few soldiers that seems to actually enjoy time off from work (She is def one of the more mentally stable 141 members- more than Soap, less than Gaz.) She likes women. She hates men giving shooting advice on the range. She likes the summertime, but hates the tan lines she gets from her sports bra. She likes alcohol and being buzzed, but can't stand being drunk. She likes to smoke cigarettes, but she hates Price's cigars. She likes spending time with her team members and doing things they like to get to know them better. She definitely likes weightlifting, HATES cardio more than anything.

Also??????????? I would die if you wrote using her!!! That is so fine!! I have NO idea what to even write to like. shoehorn her into the 141 I keep just imagining her in little scenarios and then get too excited to write it.

I'm not interested in tucking, but I started trying out dance belts (liked the reverse of tucking), and I think I still need to break them in, but they're comfortable enough, at least for part of the day, and I can pull my "women's cut" shorts up higher, which makes my ass look great, which is a big goal of my whole transition tbh. AEW: Predicting the Next Champions (From Jan 2022 Onward)

Well, I didn't expect that many title changes...

With the TBS tournament finally coming to an end and Battle of the Belts and Rampage making it conclusive, we now have a new round of new champions. Which means it's time to plan who's next - just like I did last year and still plan to do for WWE when Roman Reigns finally drops the Universal Title.

I had planned to do this after Full Gear, but I did realise that the TBS Tournament was still ongoing and decided to wait until a champion had been decided then before predicting the next champion. Then of course there was all the other title changes messing up my predictions so I waited until all the title matches were done before posting.

So let's get to it

FTW Championship - Ricky Starks Prediction: Miro Alternative Options: Eddie Kingston, Powerhouse Hobbs, Lance Archer, Daniel Garcia, Anthony Ogogo, Leyla Hirsch Not really pushed enough, I'm still keeping predictions of the FTW title (but not the Trios title since it seems delayed). There's still hope for the belt if AEW book it well enough, and someone who can elevate it to legitimacy is Miro. God's Forsaken Champion would truly be a fitting holder for a title that embodies 'Fuck the World', in Miro's warpath against his God and his self-consumed monomyth, the FTW title can be a step where he claims it thinking he's earned his right to see his wife, but then must journey to legitimize it in the eyes of AEW and his God.

There are of course alternatives; the best alternative being Eddie Kingston, the Mad King of AEW definitely embodies FTW after all. The other answer is the general transition of keeping it in Team Tazz by giving it to Hobbs would be suitable as well, but we can also look outside the comfort zone with Lance Archer - who can also embody FTW since Everybody Dies - or get a nice technical feud between Starks and 2point0's son Daniel Garcia. Our wildcards are Anthony Ogogo and Leyla Hirsch; the Guvnor has been absent due to injury but his return could see him jump ship from the flailing Factory faction (as should Nick Comoroto), adding Leyla would also be an interesting swerve because Leyla would be a great fit for Team Tazz and maybe give the squad some time tearing into the Women's Division for a bit.

AEW World Tag Team Championship - Jurassic Express Prediction: House of Black Alternative Options: ReDragon, Best Friends, 2point0, Santana & Ortiz, The Acclaimed, Bear Country or The Briscoes With Jurassic Express' surprise but deserving tag title win (get well soon Fénix), it did rattle my predictions a little. After some deliberating I've decided to gamble on the as of yet unrevealed House of Black. Malakai's appearance during the tag title celebration is telling, and Black is already PWG tag champion with Brody King - who is expected to have already signed for AEW - the implied third could be a corrupted Julia Hart, sporting an eyepatch as of recent, but I would prefer to see Abadon fill the third, and maybe Christopher Daniels as a fourth. It would work to pit the vicious combination against the Boy and his Dinosaur given their similar dynamics.

Outside of them, I think ReDragon would be the expected next in line given their credibility and JE's prior beef with Adam Cole (BayBay), and with no Trios titles it should probably fall to the tag titles - but I don't think they need it right now, especially with this brewing feud with the Bucks. A heel Best Friends could also provide Trent and Chuck a deserving tag reign by using their experience and punishing style against JB's still youthful inexperience. The Acclaimed have feuded with JE before enough to be a thorn in the new champions' side, being both slippery and annoying in the good heel way, cheating to beat the pure babyfaces would definitely give them extra heat and continue to keep the tag titles homegrown. 2point0 and Bear Country have been used sporadically in AEW, but with suitable builds they can provide decent challenges to the Lucha Bros in 2point0's charisma or Bear Country's physicality. Back when it was still Lucha Bros, I still backed Santana & Ortiz as next in line, but I don't see them being as good a fit to feud with JE as it was with Lucha Bros and Young Bucks, hopefully their time will come though. The wild card is the Briscoes, the ROH alums were spotted backstage in the Dynamite after Full Gear and will certainly be a formidable opponent but they may just stick to fighting FTR.

AEW TBS Championship - Jade Cargill Prediction: Kris Statlander Alternative Options: Tay Conti, Ruby Soho, Jamie Hayter, Red Velvet, Anna Jay, Hikaru Shida

At the climax of the TBS tournament, AEW stayed true to their home grown talent and picked Jade Cargill as their inaugural champion, maintaining her undefeated run. But this does make predictions difficult, who should defeat the undefeated?

It was tough to consider who should defeat Jade, so I considered what qualities would fit the bill for a babyface TBS champion, and I came to the conclusion that Kris Statlander fits the bill. Powerful and charismatic, she's definitely skilled enough to be a match for Jade, and with OC in her corner it averts the Mark Sterling factor to interfere. Kris may not have been a Day 1 AEW acquisition, but it may work better for Jade to be beaten by someone who had to start from the bottom and rise to the occasion.

Very close to also fitting that bill was Tay Conti, her rise in 2021 has saw her improve greatly and she still exudes an infectious babyface charm to get the crowd's backing, winning the TBS title would be a fitting reward for all her improvement. Runner-Up Ruby Soho is still someone you can't rule out getting her shot at gold, she is certainly due in her career given her talent and the fan support. Jamie Hayter is someone who could match Jade in power, with hints of her turning on Britt she can certainly carry herself as a powerful babyface or a badass tweener. Jade's longtime rival though has to always be in the running to defeat her, Red Velvet has for a long time felt like an appropriate choice given how she's smaller but faster, essentially being the opposite of Jade in their similarly-timed rise in AEW, it would be fitting for Velvet to give Jade her first L after multiple tries.

For our final two options we have Tay's tag partner and best friend Anna Jay, who also has been improving and has the benefits of being a home grown talent, our final option though would be the former Women's Champion Hikaru Shida. Shida is definitely tough enough to fight Jade - the two have been kept away from each other for some time - but Shida would work as a TBS champion by virtue of her world title run proving her to be a division workhorse.

AEW TNT Championship - Cody Rhodes/Sammy Guevara Prediction: Lance Archer Alternative Options: Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, Jungle Boy, Wardlow, Johnny Gargano, Keith Lee And this is why I waited until after Battle Belts.

So when I started writing this it was when Hangman won, so I had the neat idea of Bryan Danielson beating Guevara and getting a bunch of dream matches via the open challenge, but then Cody Rhodes had to Cody Rhodes and in the Holiday Bash AEW Rampage he cut short Sammy's title reign for the heat to continue building his heel turn - something I still to this day feel was a little unnecessary and unfair to Sammy. THEN Cody was taken off the Battle Belts card due to 'medical protocol' (later revealed to be a family member - but someone who didn't come into contact with Dustin - getting COVID) meaning that Sammy is Interim Champ, having beat Dustin, so technically we have 2 champions. For the sake of this story I'm gonna maintain that Cody will still be TNT champion, since Scorpio Sky seems to be eyeing up a title shot next and Cody hasn't yet gone full heel.

So, having to formulate a new set of contenders, I can only foresee a face taking the title off of a Heel Cody, but even then the list for who Cody would allow to beat him are slim.

My Main pick is the man he beat to win the first time around: Lance Archer. Having been injured for a while now, it'd be a full circle moment for Lance to win with the roles reversed, given his extremely short IWGP US title reign as well the Murderhawk Monster is due. Someone else Cody beat in his first reign that is also due is Eddie, not his first time on this list of course (nor the last) Eddie is certainly over enough to usurp Cody. We also can't rule out my initial thinking of Bryan, Cody would certainly have his eye on a dream match with the American Dragon, and it'd be someone credible enough for him to lay down for.

Alternatively, Cody may again want to maintain the guise of 'putting over the younger talent' by making himself feel like he's the final boss - as much as he knows that he's slow burning the heel I still think he's struggling to come to terms with the fact that he is not the company's Ace - and the guy I can see him doing that for is Jungle Boy. Out of the Four Pillars, JB is the only one he has yet to feud with, and if he drops the tag title and comes off a singles feud with Christian Cage on the winning side he'd definitely have enough momentum to challenge for the TNT title.

Our Wildcards are the long-hoped anticipation that answering the traditional TNT Open Challenge leads to a new face or a Forbidden Door entry. While the options can be enumerate there are two I can see posing the big challenge; Keith Lee has remained quiet as of recent, and while many do want him to debut on AEW by pouncing on Adam Cole I would like to see him rise out from behind an opponent like that gif with Finn Balor, the former Bearcat would definitely be over enough and have the power and athleticism to overwhelm Cody. On the other side of things, the so-called 'Prince of Pro Wrestling' would need an enemy that embodies the fan connection he currently lacks, and Johnny Wrestling could certainly fit that bill too. Gargano is still rumored to be linked to AEW since his NXT departure and coming in during an open challenge and winning would certainly be an impactful debut for him.

AEW Women’s World Championship - Britt Baker DMD Prediction: Thunder Rosa Alternative Options: Maki Itoh, Yuka Sakazaki, Nixon Newell, Athena, Deonna Purazzo As with Baker last year, my mind can only think of one person when it comes to who can win the Women's title and it's Thunder Rosa. She has been over for a long time and protected as well by AEW, the Unsanctioned classic is still in AEW's minds so it'd be foolish not to retread this feud. La Mera Mera looks like a dead cert to lead the helm soon.

But if not Rosa, then who? Yuka Sakazaki is a bias because I enjoy her, I feel like her return (as has Emi Sakura's bringing in of Lulu Pencil and Mei Sugura, AEW have been poor to the Women's Division making their own faction between RSK, Mizunami mentoring Leyla, Riho/Ruby/Statlander, Nyla and Jade, and now the Killer Queens) was handled poorly by only putting her on Elevation and Dark but it can be redeemed with a strong feud with the woman who kicked her teeth out when Yuka beat her. Our other Joshi alternative is the Fallen Idol, Maki Itoh ruled AEW for the brief time she was in the states and for good reason, her charismatic/chaotic energy is still felt to this day with Itoh Respect Army shirts and signs in the crowd, bringing in an ELITE Itoh Respect Army to content with the DMD's office would lead to a solid feud between the frenemies and put some catharsis to Itoh's journey of continual defeat to win the big one.

Our three wildcards come from WWE's releases; Nixon Newell - formerly Tegan Nox - is at the time of writing this portion freshly released and it pisses me off, having remembered Newell in her indy days I know she has it in her to be a huge babyface champion and if AEW do it in their hoped England show the pop could be huge, Ember Moon - who most likely will return to her old moniker of Athena - is an extremely talented wrestler with a killer finisher so she would be a huge acquisition, our final one is the former empress of Impact's Knockouts Division, Deonna has wanted to work in AEW for some time but since both companies were protective of their champions a dream match was prevented from coming to fruition, since Deonna is no longer champion, why not swap the Kenny angle and have an Impact wrestler win the AEW top women's prize?

AEW World Championship - 'Hangman' Adam Page Prediction: MJF Alternative Options: Adam Cole, Miro, PAC, Malakai Black, Eddie Kingston Hangman's story has hit off in a beautiful crescendo, but now that the hero's journey has completed it falls to the villain to spoil it; and AEW has no greater villain than Maxwell Jacob Friedman. I don't think I need to explain why but for the sake of it AEW need to pull the trigger on the company's best heel when against the company's best babyface, the heat would be nuclear and MJF will be able to come into his own brilliantly.

Though, there are still plenty of other options: Adam Cole Baybay is the first option already teased by AEW, a proven talent able to carry world titles, Cole would perhaps be the Elite's next option as the top dog - should they not implode that is. Miro's monomyth would have an interesting conclusion by being world champion, something fans would be here for because he has portrayed his character excellently but as I said, he's trapped in his own narrative as a hero so it would be a fitting end to his journey to win and finally see his flexible wife (and unlike Odysseus not have to murder his wife's other suitors and treacherous housemaids). We cannot also undermine the longstanding rivalry Page would have with PAC, whose paths have rarely crossed since their feud in early AEW, the Bastard would be due gold after all.

While MJF is a prime villain, there is also the villainy posed by the House of Black, Malakai Black would be a brilliant alternative especially given his NXT run, so long as Cody doesn't ruin his character like he's done to the Factory, and finally there's Eddie Kingston again: what can I say? The dude can run AEW as a villain or a babyface, so I just really want to see it.

Anime recs (some of my personal faves, not the public opinion, obviously):

About sports:

-Haikyuu (I am caught all the way up to season 4 and I have never been more passionate about volleyball in my life, not even when I played it)

-Run the Wind (it's about running but also...friendship? and motivation to follow your dreams?? I mostly just recall relating to some of the lazier characters and sensing the brotherhood vibes. It feels slow at first, but if you get invested you realize that you've binged the whole thing.)

-Free! & Free! Eternal Summer (you wanna get emotional attached to a bunch of teenage swimmers? I don't know why all these sports animes are about guy groups, but here's one about some divas -I mean swimmers. Quite the lil quaint group of nuggets, I gotta tell ya.)

About magic/supernatural

-Sailor Moon (need I say more? She's our queen and we are never too old to watch her steadily turn from crybaby to warrior of the people. If you know, you know. FIGHTING EVEIL BY MOONLIGHT-!!)

-Avatar: the Last Airbender (technically counts as an anime. Holds my entire childhood, every personality trait I have...for sure came from characters in this show. Iconic. Never loses its charms. Lots of magical realism that is centered on the natural elements of the planet, some spiritualism too. Appa is reason enough to watch this show.)

-Legend of Korra (technically a sequel storyline to Avatar: the Last Airbender, but...it's SO DIFFE R E NT. I was at first put off by my lack of OG characters, but there are so many references embedded in there, and you get to meet everybody's kids and grandkids. Also Korra? The embodiment of female pride and power, nothing will forsake her for long. Kinda STRESSFUL how many obstacles the writers create in a single season...let alone 4.)

-Inuyasha (on oldie but a goodie. Technically the first anime I ever saw...*sigh* ah youth...Anyway, it'sset in feudal Japan, but there's time travel so you won't feel too out of place. There are of course demons and magical priestesses and demon hunters and cranky, frankly exhausted, old women. Has a quality plot line and great characters. There is a new sequel show airing about the future of the characters and their bloodlines, I've only seen an episode or two but the nostalgia alone made me want to weep.)

-Fairy Tail (a CLASSIC. It has magic and dragons and FAERIES and found family and is so loveably chaotic, also: hype af fight scenes)

-Soul Eater (another chaotic group of teens that fight impossible battles, the intro music always hits hard for nO rEASON, a little more blood and angst but not like not enough to cancel out the immense joy/annoyance that is Excalibur)

-Noragami (a new take on the concept of how gods are created, sad boi hours have started, wholesome main characters, the graphics are beautiful, some of the monsters can be a tad creepy - but I'm a wimp so it could just be me)

-Bungou Stray Dogs (I HAVE ADOPTED ATSUSHI. HE IS MY SON NOW, THANK YOU FOR COMING. The art style is one I enjoy, very crisp lines and a good variation in character designs. The protagonist is named Atsushi and he is a golden child who must be protected yet allowed to flourish at all times. There is detective work, some great fights, lots of random character flaws, OH and honey the story line is TWISTY!!)

-My Hero Academia/Boko no Hero Academia (this is the show where my broccoli son goes THROUGH IT literally the WHOLE TIME. A great story of the underdog, and the variety of characters and powers are...*chef's kiss*, makes me want to lowkey live in this universe but the amount of villians... gurl it'stoo much for my weak heart smh)

- Cannon Busters (okay, so I know people have mixed opinions on this one. Lemme say this: the intro and outro SLAP, point blank periodtt. The characters are diverse in color and abilities, it's like wild west meets technofuture meets medieval magic war times. The plotline is very all over the place, but hey it's the journey right. If you don't love SAM and Casey by the end of episode 1 you're doing it wrong.)

-BNA: Brand New Animal (the art style is so freaking cool yet cute we luv to see it. The world building is pretty good, basically it'slike Zootopia, but there are way more issues with this island o animals that have a human form half the time. Our main character is determined and just a tad naive, there is a wolf man with a pet crow and we're all okay with that)

-Sirius the Jaegar (straight up, I have no idea how my sister and I binged the whole show in like 2 days, but we did. Great fight scenes, the is blood but... that's because there are vampire-esque creatures also. The main character's childhood got done dirty, but go off on your origin story I guess.)

About slice of life:

- My Little Monster/Tonari no Kaibustu-kun (a wholesome high school romance with oddballs left and right, but you just wanna root for 'em y'know? A good wind down show. There's a chicken in it.)

- (Kaichou wa) Maid-Sama (an unconventional and lowkey erratic main heroine, the love interest seems weird but you'll adore him by the end, just simple high school shenanigans with ridiculously dramatic conflicts)

Phew, that was kinda long 😓 but those are just some animes that I have watched thoroughly off the top off my head to give you a good variety of options. 5. what’s your favorite candy bar? ok so this changes quite often, right now i’d say Aero. Ask me in a month or two and it might be something completely different (i’m very partial to After Eight chocolates around the holidays)

6. have you ever been to a professional sports game? yes, many times! i live in the hockey mecca of the Montreal Canadiens and have been to many, many games. i’ve also attended soccer games of the Montreal Impact and Lisbon’s Benfica. Oh and the Women’s Cup that was held in Montreal a few years back, that was fun! Back when Montreal still had a baseball team (RIP the Expos), i went to a few as well. I’ve also attended matches of the Rogers Cup (tennis).

7. what is the last thing you said out loud?  “love you” to my husband who just took over with the baby so i could have a bit to myself and answer this! haha

8. what is your favorite ice cream? i’m a simple gal: i like vanilla because it can be matched with so many flavours. i also really love Ben & Jerry’s The Tonight Dough (created by Jimmy Fallon)

Thank You, Haikyuu!!

So here we are. The final chapter of Haikyuu...

Excuse me for becoming an emotional mess down in the cut. I only got into the fandom very recently, but holy eff I got too attached to these volleyball idiots way too quickly...

So yeah, I did see a lot of spoilers over the week, but I tried to resist posting about them myself until the official Viz translation was posted. But I did have a lot of FEELS over them, aaaah-

Also, I have this particular track from the Haikyuu OST in mind while reading the finale and it really contributes to the FEELS. It’s called Itadeki no Keshiki- or, translated, The View From the Summit. And lemme tell you, just listening to it, even without reading the chapter, already broke my heart a little.

I highly recommend listening to this clip from the first Haikyuu stage show to accompany it. Fitting, not only because it was the FIRST stage show (which meant it portrayed the beginning of the manga)... but amongst those reciting the speech was Oikawa. THE FEELS!!

I’m turning 30 in 10 days... yikes.

The last year of my life has sucked... lol. Okay, it wasn’t all bad. I’m exaggerating... but I’m also not. I know there were plenty of nice moments in the last year... but when I think about the last year of my life, its just full of so many firsts... awful firsts... 

First time celebrating their birthdays without them...

First holiday season without them... anyone else miss mom’s turkey? Most people don’t like traditional thanksgiving dinner because the turkey is more often dry... mom’s was never dry... Okay the key people.. Don’t actually cook your stuffing in the turkey. Its just going to suck all the juice life out of your bird... I mean come on. Trick #1 stuff the turkey with fresh cut oranges and yes, you can leave the skin on... #2 do majority of the oven time in an oven bag to keep the moisture in. #3 cook breasts down. Its the part thats usually most dry, so duh... keep it in the juicy, buttery goodness of the pan. I never made the entire meal, I usually just helped mom with everything. These are just some things I’ve taken away in my observations. 

Halloween trip to Disneyland without them... Disney is always a good time, but I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t feel heavy in some way... and that is saying something because Disneyland is my happy place lol. 

Looking forward to 2020... Hoping that it had so much better in store for us.

Going to Hawaii for our “family trip” without them...

A pandemic without them... I mean yes, I’m thankful they aren’t out there with COVID on the rise... I’m glad they’re not stuck at home because COVID. Mom and Michael are both too much of busy bees to be cooped up in the house for too long. 

Not going to lie... picking up where they left has been hard. All of moms plants... The dogs.. Taking care of the backyard, where Michael usually would. Mom would definitely do too much at once. She’d be out in the yard planting something and pulling out something else in her damn UGG boots! wth mom?! Those are expensive! lol. “Oh its fine.. I’ll wash them.” Omg lol. Either that, or she’d be over here trying to move heavy a$$ pots by herself and I’d have to stop her before she hurt her back. Ayiyi. 

Keanu and Aria’s birthdays without them... seeing my babies sad and missing their grandma, grandpa, and aunties has been hard. It will be out of nowhere sometimes... and all the nights of Aria waking up in the middle of the night crying. I feel you baby girl... I get it. I miss them too... Its okay to be sad... Mantras... 

You were her little rays of sunshine. Grandpa and grandma loved you SOOOO much. 

Mom would babysit the kids on Saturday mornings, while Kuya, Vaness, and I went to workout. They’d go get breakfast, pancakes and eggs, at UJs. She’d take them to Target, the dollar store, Walmart, etc. just so they could look and maybe get something to play with together. She always crafted with them. 

Living in this house... especially with COVID... has been hard. I miss just sitting at the dinner table, eating sho mi, and talking about work. Mom and Michael getting all worked up over some crazy manager, or something going down with the union.. yup, that’s where I get it from... advocacy and leadership skills FTW.  One thing they could always talk about for HOURS was work lol. 

I remember when I was a little girl, Mom would let me play in the bathtub until I was all wrinkled. She would let me bring all my toys into the tub. At one point I even had a care bear doll that she, for some reason, let me take in the bath lol. She’d throw it in the dryer for me after I was done. 

I remember going to the grocery store with mom and leaving with two full a$$ grocery carts because we had a full house at all times. I mean it was Kuya, my cousin Jojo, my brother Derric, my cousin John, Bubba, my cousin Jay, me and whoever else was over the house lol. When Kuya was in high school, it was all of his buddies partying at our house and crashing on the floor in the living room, dining room, and all the couches. She was the #1 host for sure.

“Are you hungry? Did you eat yet?” 

Thats love. 

All of Kuya’s high school friends called her Mom. My friends called her Mama Fern. She loved that. 

I remember playing hide n go seek in the dark in our tiny town house.. Later in the bigger house on Glenbriar... where mom actually tripped and broke her arm... But she laughed so hard she peed her pants, so she was a good sport? lol. Needless to say, we sort of stopped playing after that.

I remember making dim sum with mom for the first time. Such a hot mess, flour and food everywhere, but so fun. We definitely didn’t do that again until there were more adults around to help lol. Mom knew how to run through a kitchen like a tornado. Hot mess! but the best cook. 

Mom was always careful. She always wanted to make sure we were safe, that I was safe. I couldn’t go outside unless one of the boys was with me. When I would swim she would get nervous, even though I learned how to swim at a young age thanks to Kuya. One day, we were having a bbq, lots of family over, I was playing in the jacuzzi (drawing on the wall of the jacuzzi with a piece of chlorine... don’t play with chemicals kids lol) and she thought I was drowning? So she jumps her a$$ in there fully clothed and yanks my a$$ out. I was shocked as hell, so I naturally started crying hella hard and complaining about the fact that she scratched me when she yanked me up out of the water lol.

Keep in mind that that was not the first time one of the twins jumped into the pool fully clothed to “save” someone hahaha. 

 Speaking of fully clothed in the pool... The time auntie tripped and fell slo-mo style (that questionable, are you going to catch your balance, speed) into the pool LOL. Mom was dead laughing at her. Most hilarious video. 

Those twins lol. 

Jeeze.. speaking of the twins. They had this crazy connection. Tell me why when mom got sick with suspected viral meningitis and had to be hospitalized... Auntie straight up followed her right into the ICU with viral meningitis... 

Who remembers their 50th birthday? Talk about doing it BIG. So much fun. All the performances. Lani was there... KMA performances and kuya and John getting down for Maglalatik. Who doesn’t like seeing some half naked, buff dudes, bang coconuts together? haha. The twins getting down with their hula performance. Cute!

I remember when Mom and pops were going through their divorce and she would text me after midnight. I was going to Sac State and of course I was team NO sleep at the time. I would be in the AIRC studying. I’d comfort as best as I could from a distance... and then come home on weekends to be there with her when I could. 

She found her footing again. Started going to the gym with Kuya more... Started running all the time... all of her half marathons and finally she did the Nike Women’s Marathon.

That is really how I see her. She was so badass. When she was my age she had my 9 year old Kuya and I was on the way... She was working and supporting us and then eventually decided to make a better life for us, and went back to school... NURSING SCHOOL. wth. I can’t even imagine doing that right now, but reminding myself of where she has been and how much she PUT IN WORK... That keeps me grounded in the fact that we are responsible for our lives. If you want something, you have to work for it. You can’t just hope for better... you make better happen. 

I guess its that reminder... her strength... her and Michael’s love and hard work... That keeps me going. 

Being mindful... being thankful... acknowledging my own strength... 

But with that said... August has been increasingly hard. I don’t like to think about my birthday. I don’t even want to plan anything. They’re not here... I can’t celebrate with all my loved ones and friends. Thank you COVID... 

We’re just getting closer and closer to the anniversary? Nah.. lets not call it that... anniversary sounds like something nice... something to celebrate... This is NOT that. The day your loved ones are taken is not something to celebrate... I mean honestly, if I had to pinpoint the worst day of my life, that was it.... When I think about that day I can’t breathe. Terrible memories... so many sleepless nights. I’ve come so far. Its still hard, but I’ve come a long way. 

Anyway... this post is sort of random and nostalgic. Things I hold onto. Things that make me happy cry... Things that weigh heavy on my heart.

So… 

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, you guys.  

Let me explain something first: the Broadway musical First Date is my SHOW.  I mean, it’s NOT-- I had no part in the creation or performance of it, obviously.  But it’s “mine” in the way that people tend to take possession of things they like, you know? 

“That’s my song!” 

“That’s my precious fictional baby!”

Or, I guess, like that weird thing sports fans do when they insert themselves into their favorite team, like, “we need to box out the endzone and get some points on the board” or whatever.

First Date is mine not only because I loved it, but because it felt like the creators reached into my heart, plucked out all my experiences and emotions, and put them up on stage.  I mean, it went to TATTOO LEVELS, so you know it’s both serious and a little ridiculous. 

 Six years later, I still fucking love that show. 

(The intensity has gone down a bit, but that’s probably the best for everyone.)

So when I happened to find out that the book writer of First Date was the creator/writer of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist AND it was a musical, I obviously wanted to check it out.  It was delayed slightly by a deep-dive into a Schitt’s Creek hyper-fixation (David and Patrick can have my entire heart and, like, overall existence), but I finally started watching a few days ago.

And it is delightfully First-Date-y.

It’s also a really good “I can’t handle anything too sad or heavy right now due to reality” option.  There’s some romantic angst and family tragedy thrown in, but it’s not like This Is Us: The Musical or anything (thank christ-- seriously, how does anyone watch that show? It’s Ugly Cry Central over there).

I’m not going to do the plot summary thing because Google exists.  But here’s the thing: yes, there are multiple tropes here that have been done to death (*cough*lovetriangle*cough*), but you know what? The show is cute, the cast is really talented, and the writing’s pretty effing funny. I don’t need groundbreaking television to be entertained. And I’m a sucker for “nice comedy” nowadays, you know? Like, I could never get into Glee because the characters were HORRIBLE to each other. I can’t do a show full of selfish, mean people, it just doesn’t work for me.  Give me a well-written ensemble comedy where everyone messes up but they’re ultimately trying their best and growing, and I’m pretty much in.

That all being said, here’s what I need to discuss (spoilers ahead, obviously):

1) Zoey’s definitely got that whole Zooey-Deschanel-adorkable thing going on, but you have to appreciate a show that is like, “STEM Women FTW!” because we need that.  Also, maybe it’s Fellow Millennial Empathy, but I appreciate that she has no idea what she’s doing and is still trying so hard to be a functioning and successful adult, WHILE dealing with family tragedy, AND sudden musical powers, AND being a woman in charge of a department full of men (girl, been there done that), AND confusing mushy feelings. It helps that Jane Levy is so talented that I was convinced she was British (she is not).

2) Mo. Is. Everything.  More representation of gender-fluidity is wonderful to see, for one thing. But he’s also the smartest character on the show, as well as the most well-balanced and emotionally mature.  And his VOICE, okay? I love that it seems like Mo is going to sort of be Zoey’s guide through all of this, and I’m looking forward to seeing their friendship grow.

3) Simon is a gorgeous, gorgeous man.  If he was at ALL single, I’d be like, “Zoey, hit that IMMEDIATELY”. But I don’t love the direction that their relationship is going (HE IS ENGAGED, FFS) OR the whole Jessica vs. Zoey thing they’re pulling.  I’m willing to give the first part a pass because both of them are grieving and emotional instability can definitely equal bad decisions (we may not like it, but you can’t say it’s unrealistic). But that second part? Simon is way more to blame than Zoey. No more girls hating on girls, okay? Like, I don’t want Jessica and Zoey to necessarily become besties (that whole “it’s always about your dad” comment was way too awful for me to like her THAT much), but you know what I mean. The longer this goes on, the less I like Simon.  And it’s such a BUMMER, because I feel like Zoey and Simon could really use each other, platonically. 

4) Speaking of not liking people, Zoey’s brother is a dick. Not ONLY because of the shit he pulled with going out to bars instead of being with his PREGNANT WIFE/STRUGGLING MOTHER, but that whole thing about him having to “convince” his wife to have kids when she didn’t want them? YUCK. He’s the one character I do not like at ALL and I hope that Emily leaves him and ends up an awesome single mom with a hot boyfriend. I’m glad Zoey told her what was up. GOOD. WHAT A JERK.

5) Zoey’s mom is amazing and deserves the world. That is all.

But within that 100%, I’m 50% Zoey Is Clearly Not Ready To Date Him Or Even Process Her Feelings About Him Right Now So He Needs To Just Be Her Friend and 50% Zoey Is Clearly Terrified Of Feelings And Max Might Need To Push Her a Little To Get Her To Get Past That.  This is coming from a place of experience, because I was once terrified of feelings and commitment and basically my husband is only my husband because he chose to ignore the many, many times I tried to break up with him and was very persistent with me. Please note that this DOES NOT MEAN that Max needs to be all pissy about “friendzoning” and/or pushing TOO hard, TOO quickly. Which he’s sort of toe-ing the line with, at the moment.  I don’t think that Zoey ever really gave him the impression that she was interested in him romantically before the whole “flash mob” debacle (I cringed when Mo said that touching his shoulder and having him come over to watch a movie was leading him on, because please don’t do that, writers, Mo is too smart and progressive for that BS), and the flash mob itself was a really weird, out-of-character move (at least thus far) for him.  Look, I get the whole “omg, Max can hear her/no wait, there’s real singing” thing was an unexpected twist, but I’m not a fan of twists over characterization. Max knows Zoey, and I think he’d know that declaring feelings in public while making her the center of attention would not be her thing (but I find public proposals super cringe-y, so maybe that’s just me).  I’m sort of not happy with that. What I DO think is appropriate is him asking for some time/space after she asks to just be his friend-- I count that as being respectful of her decision and needing some breathing room to disconnect his romantic feelings towards her. I also don’t blame him for being upset that she knew his feelings way beforehand and didn’t say anything, or for being upset after seeing her sing to Simon. The singing thing is not Zoey’s fault at ALL, but that is some serious emotional whiplash! Nevertheless, I hope these two are endgame and don’t hurt each other too much in the process. That boy will do ANYTHING for her, and I kind of love him for it. Please don’t turn him into a “Nice Guy”! Also, can we all agree that he outsang EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Jonas Brothers with “Sucker”? Goddamn!

7) Tobin is so stupid, but WOW is that character a brilliant representation of every single, straight, young, insecure, emotion-denying, Reddit-using, product of toxic masculinity gamer boy that you’ve ever met in your life. Holy SHIT. They’re nailing it with him. He is 100% the guy that yells a “make me a sandwich” joke in front of his friends and then goes home and cries about not having a girlfriend. I have met 10,000 versions of Tobin in my life and he CRACKS ME UP. Bless him.

8) Leif is Draco Malfoy and I hope that Joan is using him for sex and then ditches him in a humiliating fashion. IF THEY MAKE HER FALL FOR HIM I SWEAR TO GOD. She’s too smart for that. I want Joan and Mo to take over the world together.

How The WNBA Forced The Runoff In The Georgia Senate Race + GA Counties Axe Early Voting Locations, Activists Sound Off!

The WNBA is being credited for a runoff in the Georgia Senate races. Deets on how the ladies made it happen, plus reports about counties in Georgia cutting down on early voting locations inside…

It’s still election season in the state of Georgia. And the election results will determine who will run the state’s Senate.

On November 3rd, the 2020–21 Georgia Senate election went down where record numbers of voters came out to cast their vote. However, none of the candidates received a majority of vote, so the runoff races were set in motion. Just four weeks left before Georgia voters head back to the polls.

So, how does the WNBA make a play on the political scene? Well, the ladies used their platform to back the senator who was running against the WNBA team owner (and Republican) who criticized the Black Lives Matter movement.

Over the summer, WNBA players began speaking out against WNBA team owner Sen. Kelly Loeffler over comments she made about the Black Lives Matter movement. She dubbed BLM as a “very divisive organization” that promotes “violence and destruction across the country.” Star players called for her to resign, but it never happened.

That’s when they switched up the play.

  The Atlanta WNBA players started to publicly endorse their team owner’s opponent Rev. Raphael Warnock. They wore “Vote Warnock” t-shirts on TV and explained why they were supporting him in several interviews. And they're still showing him support! This is the type of political shade we love to see.

According to The Washington Post, Warnock’s numbers began to increase after the WNBA launched their t-shirt campaign:

Warnock’s polling and donation numbers started rising over the summer. In November, he forced Loeffler into a runoff election, to be held in January. Warnock recently said that the WNBA’s decision to support him was a “turning point” in his campaign.

Was that really because of the WNBA? Many things started going right for Warnock during the summer aside from the players’ support. My research suggests that Warnock is right: WNBA support made the difference.

According to MoveOn.org, Rev. Raphael Warnock currently leads Kelly Loeffler by just 2.2%, following their recent debate.

During the debate, Kelly refused to acknoledge Trump lost reelection in November.

Also, running in the runoff elections…

Incumbent Sen. David Perdue and Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff (pictured above) are running for a spot in Georgia’s Senate. Ossoff called Perdue a “coward” after he didn’t show up to participate in their televised debate. Womp.

By the way, Perdue also skipped out on the finale debate leading up to Election Day. It just goes to show Perdue isn't concerned about campaigning to voters to support him. At this point, his privilege slip is showing and he doesn't care.

As of right now, Jon Ossoff leads David Perdue by less than one percentage point, so it’s still a really tight race. And it doesn't help that Georgia is back with some foolishness that involves early voting.

Several counties in Georgia have reportedly cut down on early voting locations, which has activists on alert.

NBC News reports:

Four of the 10 most populous counties in Georgia are reducing the number of locations where people can vote early in the state’s Senate runoff races, prompting outcry from civil rights and voting rights organizations.

In Cobb County, the state’s third most populous county with more than 760,000 residents, election officials have announced five early voting locations, fewer than half of the 11 used for early voting ahead of last month's general election.

Advocates warned that the reduction of early voting sites will particularly harm Black and Latino voters in the state by making it harder to access the polls.

“We are especially concerned that these closures will be harmful to Cobb County’s Black and Latinx voters because many of the locations are in Black and Latinx communities,” a group of advocates, including Georgia branches of the NAACP and the American Civil Liberties Union, wrote in a letter Monday to local officials, calling on them to maintain 11 early voting sites for the runoff. They included a map that showed how most of the early voting locations are in areas with a higher shares of Black voters.

It's always some ish with GA when it comes to voting. That's why people like Stacey Abrams - who actively advocates for democracy - are so important.

The Georgia Senate runoff election is January 5th. Early voting will start December 14th.

Are AEW Planning a Second Show?

Today, fan demand was answered with the announcement that Eddie Kingston - followintg his great TNT title match and pre-match promo with Cody - has been signed to AEW. Between this, Matt Cardona’s signing and the Deadly Draw inviting more women, AEW’s roster is getting big, even in the time of COVID. But it’s getting a little crowded now, so are AEW planning a second show already?

Roster Bloat or a Bigger Crowd? AEW already sported some fantastic roster members, sadly COVID had prevented travel for many such as Bea Priestley, Yuka Sakazaki, CIMA, Riho, PAC and more, we’ve also had QT Marshall sidelined by COVID. But even then AEW have had some struggles with utilizing all their roster, the tag teams particularly. Lucha Bros, Santana and Ortiz and TH2 are all wildly talented tag teams that sadly have had less exposure as of recent, the latter barely any TV time in almost a year. The same can be said for Luther, the Gunn Club, Sonny Kiss, Preston Vance and Joey Janela who struggle to make it on the card, and Sadie Gibbs whose ill-fated debut had led her to disappear entirely. Suffice to say, AEW’s roster is getting too big for Dynamite to cater them alone, but yet AEW still sign more people, and are encouraged to sign others still (I for one think they cannot pass up Will Hobbs, Shawn Dean, Serpentico, Ivelisse, Jamie Hayter, Pillman Jr and Pineapple Pete), especially for the Women’s division, so with that in mind it would make sense for AEW to expand their roster and perform a show Mitosis, either that or two things is happening: AEW is expecting departures or they’re losing their minds a little with the recruitment. Of the three I doubt the latter is the case. Light in the Dark A while back it was reported that AEW were prepping Youtube show’s Dark to be a televised show, which could also be a part of the splitting, being able to throw in title matches to draw while also expanding the undercard. But then that leads to the worry of what the Independent Wrestlers who AEW have done well to expose and finance during COVID would stand, the likes of Serpentico, Hobbs and Pineapple Pete if unsigned will sadly not show up on AEW either. This is all of course speculation, unless AEW move their ‘TV Dark’ to be a separate show and keep the Youtube show for the Indy talent and undercard, similar to how NJPW is currently using the show Lion’s Break Collision to expose their Young Lions (btw Gabriel Kidd is great you should check out his WCPW/Defiant work, of course Filthy Tom Lawlor, Jeff Cobb, Clark Connors and Karl Fredricks are fantastic too). This would be a decent move, but then you’d have to rename one of the shows, there also lies another struggle. Building a Glass Cannon While at the Roster AEW are bulking up, they are still missing the bulking in some other areas if they’re gonna expand to 2 shows. The Women’s Division of course needs more, the Deadly Draw will hopefully aid to that with hopeful additions of NWA’s Thunder Rosa, Ivelisse and Diamante being official, Jamie Hayter, TJPW’s Maki Itoh (and by extension her tag partner DDT Universal Champion Chris Brookes), Lana Austin, Laura Di Matteo, Millie McKenzie, Cris Cyborg (she has been teasing a Wrestling career for a while), Session Moth Martina, Taya Valkyrie and Priscilla Kelly to really stack the division for the return of Bea, Britt, Statlander, Kong, Sakura and Yuka. The other department AEW need to focus a little on though is management; as documented on BTE, tapings for Dark go beyond midnight, there’s definite risk of burnout from the EVPs so it will be important to not thin them any further and have people who can share the load, for commentary that can involve using Goldenboy a lot more and giving Brandon (and Leva, she seems to be doing a fair bit behind the scenes) a bit of help. Opportunity Calling? AEW seem to hybrid their product on sticking with some traditional NWA-esque formats in shows combined with modernized layered storytelling, the former can be seen in its ‘Big Four’ PPV system (All Out, Double or Nothing, Revolution and Full Gear?) with other named shows being specials like Fyter Fest, Fight for the Fallen and Bash at the Beach. With a 2 TV show format though there bodes the question if the Championship hierarchy will expand. WWE of course have a lot of titles, but due to little attention to storyline sometimes the titles become less prestigious over time like a rollercoaster, which is something AEW could easily fall into too. That being said, AEW have flirted with the ideas of Mixed Tag and 6-Man titles, especially with the latter given the expansion of trio stables before COVID (Jurassic Express, Dark Order, Death Triangle, Inner Circle, the Elite, FTR & Hangman, Best Friends, SCU, Nightmare Family etc.). AEW seem to have the same track as NXT and NJPW when it comes to stables, and a 2-show format can easily open the door to these kind of titles while giving more room for the TNT and Women’s title to surface as well - as well as Women’s tag if the Deadly Draw is leading to it, though I would prefer the tag division to simply be mixed...I can see why Brandi and Khan has some reservations over that though.This may also expand the platform for the FTW title, if AEW officialize it, build other challengers for the TNT, Tag and World title, and do some more promos, frankly I feel like AEW’s missing a beat by leaving out all its package promos it used to do in the build to dynamite, even the Road to series have gotten shorter mainly out of time constraints. A Ratings Arms Race Should AEW decide to do 2 shows and successfully hold it down, it would be interesting to see how their rivals respond. WWE have not been subtle about throwing together special shows and throwing some Main Roster fan-favourites on NXT to compete with AEW. I do not mind this of course, the Wednesday Night Wars has invited both brands to up their game, thanks to that we have great wrestling and stars like Dexter Lumis who have gotten over because they were allowed to reach for the brass ring. I only mention this because if AEW gets 2 shows it can be seen as AEW stepping up, which’ll have to cause NXT to deliberate if they can do the same and potentially expand their focus on other wrestlers or do a better job with NXT UK. Conclusion Of course, I don’t have answers, but with the men’s midcard being stacked and talent at risk of squandering, many arrows point towards AEW possibly pushing for another show by next year. Through the analysis I’ve given if this is done well, this could be very good for wrestling as a whole, more good wrestlers getting good wrestling platforms without being squandered, but there is still a lot of work to do and AEW need to keep a level head about this - which is hard when you’re on a high, the alternative is to finally wear down NJPW and possibly break bread with ROH or Impact like they seem to have done with NWA to spread their roster when they’re not being used. Or we can have a bit of both, in the end COVID has left the indy market sparse and AEW have done their best to provide a platform for others, and that has pushed them to expand, once COVID has subsided and more people adhere to the common practice of wearing masks and basic levels of hygiene, it’ll be down to AEW to see what steps they take when their roster is fully accessible to them.
