Harrogate Railway 0-0 Worsbrough Bridge FC
Tumblr media
At the start of Saturday Railway were four points and four places above the visitors to Station View - Worsbrough Bridge.
The game promised to be a close affair, with both teams looking to make ground on the teams above them; and so it was to prove - a rather balanced contest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first half was played mainly in the midfield, punctuated with chances for both teams to break the deadlock, but with Railway probably having the better of the strikes on goal.
Harry Bandeira and Alex Clarke impressed for Railway in the first 45, posing various questions of the visiting defence, and promising more in the second half.
Tumblr media
The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first; both teams fully committed to attacking, but struggling to create clear-cut chances.
With the minutes ticking by, Rob Youhill made changes on the field and this seemed to have a positive reaction as Harrogate began to dominate challenges and push forward more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Half chances were starting to be created, but the excellent Preston in Bridge's goal seemed equal to the challenge, dealing with everything put his way.
Worsbrough weren't sitting back though...with Railway's keeper, Joshua Sharkey, forced into making a superb one handed acrobatic save to push a goal-bound shot over the bar for a corner.
As the 90 minutes approached, Railway were pouring forward with Worsbrough, in the main, repelling the attacks. Then a bizarre moment.
Tumblr media
As one of the visitor's attacks was dealt with by the Railway defence, there was a stoppage in the play as the assistant referee, Alessandro De Marco, suffered an injury on the sideline and had to be replaced for the final few minutes of the game.
The extended delay, meant that there were eight or nine minutes to be added on, and Railway tried hard to make them count; however, Worsbrough were resolute and held out to earn themselves a point and frustrate the home team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this being a goalless draw, there were plenty of moments in the game to enthral the supporters...but it is understandable that both teams will probably rue the half chances that they created and didn't take.
Railway are in action again on Tuesday evening against local rivals Knaresborough Town in the quarter final of the West Riding County Cup, kick-off at 7:45pm.
We wish Alessandro all the best for a quick recovery.

i began by gathering my images from google and pinterest for the victorian era and the little women, however for cannon hall i used my own images from when i visited it days before, before making the mind maps i gathered a bunch of literacy books from victorian authors and the little women book i then i photocopied the pages to use as a background.
once i was happy with the layout of them i stuck them down and wrote down all the information i knew about each topic, and then also throughout my research and this unit I will continue to add more information about each subject

This is my customer profile board for Cannon Hall.
We are working with Cannon Hall and Cosprop for an event at the hall called aCostume Capers which will happen between may 24 to 15th September.
On the customer profile board is photos i have taken on my visit to Cannon Hall showing the rooms and different decorative pieces around the house. I also took inspiration from patterns and designs from the rooms such as the design on the celling, the gold in rooms and the flowers. The celling designs was something i really liked as-well as how elegant the rooms decor looked too. With the customer bee Cannon Hall, i decided that floral would be a good thing to make sure i use because a lot of the Gardens are full of many different nature things and they all are unique which made me want to have vibrant and unique designs for the dress i will eventually make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are some photos i took from Cannon Hall which gave me a lot of inspiration when thinking of designs for a dress. All 3 of these photos inspired me and made me thing of cannon hall.

TRIP- CANNON HALL
To start off this unit, i went to cannon hall museum and gardens, to get inspiration for our FMP.
Cannon Hall is a ‘country house museum’ in Cawthorne-5 miles from Barnsley. It was originally the home of the Spencer and later the Spencer-Stanhope family. It now houses collections of fine furniture, ceramics and glassware.
(information from Wikipedia)
This website includes more information about the hall and its history ^^

Cannon Hall
Cannon Hall is a country house dating back to early 1000s, which is now a museum, containing artwork, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass and metal work dating back decades and even centuries. There is also huge grounds contains parks and garden's, as well as the family-run farm and farm shop which sells fresh produce.
Cannon hall can be found do be recorded on the 1086 Domesday Survey, and continued to the 14th century where it was owned by now a suburb in Barnsley, Ardsley. In 1660, John Spencer purchased Cannon hall after arriving from the Welsh Borders. Spencer became big in the local coal and iron industry, but died in 1729, leaving the estate to he son, also named John Spencer, who rebuilt the Hall. The hall was passed down for a few more generations, (William Spencer and then John Spencer) who enjoyed expanding the estate, as well taking part in hunts, enjoying theatre, and going on trips to see friends and family.
The Spencer title ended with John Spencer when he died in 1776, however Spencer's sister (Ann) married a Walter Stanhope in which they had a son together, Walter Spencer-Stanhope, who would become the next heir of Cannon Hall. 'Spencer' was added in regards to his uncle, and he became big in Iron smelting, gaining all their wealth from that. Walter had a son, John Spencer-Stanhope, who inherited the estate and iron smelting company, and became the leader of a local iron masters group. With his gain in wealth, Spencer rebuilt the Hall, adding wings that were heightened, as well as a park used to contain Deer.
Two walled gardens were made after (Sir) Walter Spencer-Stanhope became heir, and lived his day's as a politician. The family continued as John Montague Spencer-Stanhope became heir. John Montague Spencer-Stanhope only had one child, a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Ida Spencer-Stanhope. Margrrt, also known as Elizabeth, sold the estate in 1951 to the county borough of Barnsley (Barnsley Council).
In 1957, Cannon Hall opened to the public and became a museum.

Cannon Hall Museum - History
Tumblr media
The land was first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 as containing a manor house. In the 13th Century the first recorded inhabitant of the property was Gilbert Canun then passed to the Bosville family of Ardsley and on to different families throughout the centuries until John Spencer bought the estate in 1660. For 300 years after the Spencer and Spencer Stanhope family expanded theproperty and its grounds.
John Spencer added two ground floor wings to the house in the 18th century which created the library and dining room. In the early 19th century, Walter Spencer Stanhope and his wife, after inheriting the hall, added further rooms upstairs for their children. Later in the 19th century, the final additions to the property was done, adding a ballroom, kitchen and servant quarters in the house. The Spencer Stanhope made their fortune in the local iron and coal industries. Walter Spencer Stanhope was a Tory MP who became friends with Independent MP William Wilberforce, the anti-slavery campaigner.
Elisabeth Fraser Spencer Stanhope was the last of the family line, she sold the estate to Barnsley Cooperation in 1951 and they decided to turn the house into a museum, which opened in 1957. Over the last 70 years, the house has been filled with many beautiful and historic pieces, with each room being decorated with spectacular paintings, ceramics, glass, furniture, metalwork and drawings to create historically accurate room settings for the public to view and enjoy.

Cannon Hall
About
The name of Cannon Hall came from Gilbert Cannon, the first recorded inhabitant of the property in the 13th century and therefore is thought to be the origin of the name. From then, ownership was passed on to the Bosville family of Ardsley and then to a number of different families over the centuries until John Spencer bought the estate in 1660. For the next 300 years the Spencer and Spencer Stanhope family ran the grounds, expanding and improving the Hall and land, funded by their great wealth made in the local iron industry. Cannon Hall now stands on 70 acres of historical parkland looking towards the village of Cawthorne west of Barnsley.
Spencer and Spencer Stanhope Family
John Spencer loves books sports and fine dining, therefore he decided to add two ground floors wings in the 18th century to the building, creating the library and dining room. Walter, his nephew and heir was a supporter and friend of William Wilberforce. He and his wife Mary Winifred added further rooms to the upper floors in the early 19th century due to how many kids they had so the property could fit everyone in. Later members of the family, including John Roddam Spencer Stanhope, his niece Gertrude Spencer Stanhope and his other niece Evelyn De Morgan were all renowned artists of the late 19th century and early 20th century. Finally in the late 19th century the last additions to the house were made, adding, a ballroom, kitchens and servant quarters.

In 1951, the last of the family line Elisabet Fraser Spencer Stanhope sold the Hall to Barnsley Corporation and the decision was made to turn the building into a museum opening in 1957. When the house was bought it was almost empty therefore the first curator had the task of beginning a collection of fine and decorative arts from scratch. From the 1950s to today, an incredible mix of paintings, drawings, ceramics, glass, metalwork and furniture has come together for the public to enjoy. The rooms at the Museum include both historic room settings and gallery displays of artworks spanning centuries. In addition, ‘A Family of Artists’ exhibition with the De Morgan Foundation is hosted at the museum, featuring paintings by Evelyn De Morgan and ceramics by her husband William De Morgan.

Elsecar Heritage Centre
youtube
Elsecar's Story Elsecar, a Yorkshire hamlet created by wealthy nobles, swiftly became a worldwide hub of ironmaking and coal mining. With its independent shops and cafés, artist and maker studios, antiques centre, delectable cafes, beer tap and traditional pubs, attractive walking and cycling paths, award-winning park, nature reserve, and reservoir, and much more, the hamlet is now a well-loved location to visit. The Earls Fitzwilliam built it to impress nobility and royalty. They looked up at our blazing furnaces, which soared high into the sky. They went deep into the mines. They were astounded by the magnificent architecture, industry, and incredible ingenuity. Queen Victoria was led outside the Crystal Palace's Great Exhibition to observe a massive column of coal brought there specifically from Elsecar.
youtube
Our people created incredible things by working together, with talent and commitment. Great bridges were cast, including those for famed engineers the Brunels. Massive engines that fuelled the industrial revolution were built here. Battleship armour was developed, notably that for the Royal Navy's first ironclad battleship, HMS Warrior. Millions of tonnes of coal were extracted and sent all over the world. That rich past has left a remarkable array of archaeological structures and buildings, many of which are listed or are Scheduled Ancient Monuments. Download a comprehensive Historic Area Assessment, developed as part of our Heritage Action Zone partnership with Historic England, to learn more about the village's history and built heritage. The New Yard workshops in the heart of Elsecar are now home to dozens of independent stores, artist and maker studios, delectable eateries, a beer tap and a big antiques centre. Aside from that, The Ironworks event venue offers concerts and gigs, weddings and celebrations, as well as markets and fairs. Thousands of people go to see spectacular performances both day and night, as well as popular events. While you're here, explore our park, which features a famous bandstand, breathtaking vistas, and several accolades. Our reservoir has been developed into a wildlife sanctuary with a wide variety of fauna. Wander or bike down the canal towpath, which is now part of the Trans Pennine Trail.

It's been a good day today. Started by picking our son, also Dave, up at 8.00am to do some shopping. Back home for 9.30 and second breakfast, a slice of toast.
Packed myself some lunch and caught the bus to Elsecar to continue the walk I started yesterday.
Walked along the Trans Pennine Trail by the canal to Wombwell and then along to Worsbrough before striking out for home.
I covered just over eight and a half miles which took me over 400 miles so far.
Back home before 3.00pm and a little relax with a nice glass of Chablis, very nice indeed.
Early evening and we both went to Wakefield for Gobby In The Lobby, a great spoken word event.
Jane performed on the open mic, so proud of her.
