i enjoy writing, but it’s also excruciating bc I know there’s so much that can go wrong, such as:
poorly recycling cliche tropes that do nothing for the plot
self-inserting yourself and accidentally projecting your bad or distorted ideas about the world onto the characters
going too far into la la land with your creative unadulterated urges to the point of lacking self-awareness
prioritizing style over substance
PLOT HOLES
being so possessive of your little darlings that you either a) don’t challenge the status quo in a substantive way that adds to the plot or b) you do challenge the status quo, but it’s ultimately toothless if you revert back to the status quo with no real cause or consequence
writing something egregious or cringey and not really realizing it until someone finally just tells you straight up and then you cringe in pain as you realize how egregious it really is and you want to burn everything you’ve ever written
having way too many B, C, D, etc plots occurring at the same time, to the point that it compromises the primary A plot and the message gets lost and the reader is confused
anyway writing is fun lmao

(And, if you’re keen to understand narrative structure, I have another series on that topic. Next week we’ll be looking at the five-part structure as…
