A day later than I thought, but I just couldn't get anything done yesterday.

Anyway, that's the OC interaction between my Inra (the white one) and @wyrd66 's Raiker (the darker one; isn't he just the best, I love him!). Shapeshifter meets shapeshifter! :3

That was really fun, and I learned a lot about making comic pages in CSP. The prep work for this made me realize that I'm better at sequential art vs. illustration, which makes me feel so much better about all my struggles with illustration attempts. That said, I hope it makes some sense haha.

Also I can draw dogs like 1000x faster than humans, but I guess that's to be expected... XD

I managed to work out the entirety of Jeih & Ary’s arc last year and I am pretty stoked. Now I can properly fit them alongside Scott’s.

Putting this separately because I kinda don’t want it to get lost in the comments since I think it’s useful for people to think about. I don’t remember who I first heard talk about expensive and cheap behaviors (maybe Shade Whitesel?) but it really stuck with me!

I think it helps us think more about our dogs’ individual personalities, likes/dislikes, and what they find easier/harder or are more naturally inclined to do. Rather than getting stuck on training as a transactional process where 1 behavior = 1 reward, because reward should increase behavior, right??? If something is hard/expensive for my dog, I need to pay her more for doing it!

edit to add: and “expensive” doesn’t really mean my dog just doesn’t understand this yet, but more that it’s something that is not really her preference or is naturally more difficult for her. Blizzard is kind of like Solstice (my previous white shepherd, for the newer followers) in that she does love to chase and bite things but she’s not big on tugging/holding. So she will put things in her mouth, but doesn’t really want to keep them there. Versus my workingline GSDs (Chandra and Ryker) who love to bite and tug and possess things, so holding is easier for them. Not that I didn’t still have to work for it a bit, but it was much easier to get a hold sooner with them than with my N = 2 white shepherds. So holding is expensive for Blizzard and not for Chandra. (though for Chandra, actually holding the item still without chomping/regripping is kind of expensive :))

If you don't mind me asking-- where did you buy your tracking flags? I'm having a hard time finding them online. The companies I find seem to be out of the country so shipping is ludicrous. It was suggested to me to buy marker flags, but they only come in bulk (100 in a bundle), and I really do not need 100 flags. I need like 15. Or 20.

I actually never bought any. My instructor always had them. I think she only ever used them at the beginning of a track anyway. I believe she used the marker flags, but as an instructor and a show organizer, I’m sure she could use those 100 packs. Googling ‘marker flags home depot’ brought up this 10 pack: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-15-in-Irrigation-Flags-10-Pack-53314/100113095 They look like they could work!

OC questions, for whoever you want: What trait(s) do they like best about themselves? What are they most afraid of? What never fails to make them happy? What is their weirdest/most obscure talent?

I've been mulling over this for a while, some of these questions were/ are a real challenge to find answers for XD But I like that, so thank you for asking! :D

What traits do they like best about themselves? Aro (Mura's Voice) - he's generally capable of doing things on his own and doesn't need to rely on others all the time and he LIKES that. He also likes that he can make certain types of people swoon over him.

What are they most afraid of? Aurel (Feline Fabric) - to be invisible and inconsequential to others. There have to be people somewhere who truly care about him just for who he is.

What never fails to make them happy? Aro - his flings, prior to the story. They admire his good looks and the idea that he's a pretty powerful mura bearer, and he enjoys being admired and the human connection those nights involve. And even though (or because) nothing of that involves serious feelings and both parties know that, he enjoys the basic honesty, since he can't have that in his everyday life. It's the closest thing he has to a happy place. (isn't that just incredibly sad though 😅 and I had to think so long to even find an answer to that)

What is their weirdest/most obscure talent? (to be answered later... I don't really have the head space to be focusing on this currently and I don't want to leave the rest sitting in my inbox for however long it'll take me to find an answer 🥲)

I have a beautiful, lovely mug collection that I am very proud of... but our cup cabinet is getting pretty full.

As @wyrd66 was looking in the cabinet, they said, “I think we need to thin the herd...”

I gasped loudly. You can’t just tell a ceramicist to get rid of their ceramic mugs!

They continued, “We need to donate some of our plastic cups.”

I'm so glad! I wish I'd been able to donate, but I've been hit with a lot of expenditures this month. Will the book be available in the future?

It’s how we used to “train” (😂) running contacts before better methods came along! The hoop mostly just manages it as long as its there, doesn’t actually train much. But it’s fun to play with!

She’s definitely an example of me getting lazier/slower training each subsequent dog, when I realize that she is almost three and has barely competed in anything. Oh well!!!!!

A judge said a while back that they see more small dogs miss contacts than big dogs, and I tend to agree with that. Perhaps because people think the smaller stride will put the dog in the contact zone more easily and that they don’t have to put as much effort into training it. I’ve definitely heard a number of small dog handlers complaining about a contact call like “my dog never misses a contact!” and I’m like “well they sure missed that one...” 🙈

IME the majority of dogs have to be trained for running contacts regardless of size or stride length. If someone has a rare unicorn dog with natural running contacts, they better enjoy it while they can until their next dog is Not a rare unicorn and serves ‘em a big dish of humble pie. 😂
